1. 1

   וַיָּבֹאThen-came-heאֶל־דֶּרְבִּיto-Derbeוְאֶל־לוּסְטְרָאand-Lystra:וְהִנֵּהand,-behold,תַּלְמִידa-discipleאֶחָדcertainשָׁםwas-there,וּשְׁמוֹnamedטִימוֹתִיּוֹסTimotheus,וְהוּאand-heבֶּן־אִשָּׁהthe-son-of-a-womanיְהוּדִיתwhich-was-a-Jewess,מַאֲמִינָהand-believed;וְאָבִיוbut-his-fatherיְוָנִי׃was-a-Greek:

   Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:

   וַיְהִי־לוֹWhich-hadשֵׁםreportטוֹבwellבְּקֶרֶבof-byהָאַחִיםthe-brethrenאֲשֶׁרthat-wereבְּלוּסְתְּרָאat-Lystraוּבְאִיקָנְיוֹן׃and-Iconium.

   Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.

   בּוֹHimבָחַרwould-haveפּוֹלוֹסPaulלָצֵאתto-go-forthאִתּוֹwith-him;וַיִּקַּחand-tookוַיָּמׇלand-circumcisedאֹתוֹhimלְמַעַןbecause-ofהַיְּהוּדִיםthe-Jewsאֲשֶׁרwhich-wereבַּמְּקֹמוֹתin-quartersהָהֵםthose:כִּיforכֻלָּםthey-allיָדְעוּknewאֶת־אָבִיוhis-fatherכִּיthatיְוָנִיa-Greekהוּא׃was.

   Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.

4. 4

   וַיַּעַבְרוּAnd-as-they-went-throughבְּעָרִיםthe-cities,וַיִּמְסְרוּthey-delivered-themלִשְׁמֹרfor-to-keep,אֶת־הַחֻקִּיםthe-decreesאֲשֶׁרthatגָּזְרוּwere-ordained-ofהַשְּׁלִיחִיםthe-apostlesוְהַזְּקֵנִיםand-eldersבִּירוּשָׁלָיִם׃which-were-at-Jerusalem.

   And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.

   וְהַקְּהִילּוֹתAnd-so-were-the-churchesהִתְחַזְּקוּestablishedבָאֱמוּנָהin-the-faith,וַתִּרְבֶּינָהand-increased-in-numberמִיּוֹםfrom-dayאֶל־יוֹם׃to-day.

   And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.

   וַיַּעַבְרוּNow-when-they-had-gone-throughoutבִּפְרוּגְיָאPhrygiaוּבְאֶרֶץand-the-region-ofגָּלַטְיָאGalatia,כִּיforמְנָעָםwere-forbiddenרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁof-the-Holy-Ghostמֵהַשְׁמִיעַto-preachאֶת־הַדָּבָרthe-wordבְּאַסְיָא׃in-Asia,

   Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,

   וּכְבֹאָםAfter-they-were-comeאֶל־מוּסְיָאto-Mysia,הוֹאִילוּthey-assayedלָלֶכֶתto-goאֶל־בִּיתוּנְיָאinto-Bithynia:וְלֹא־הִנִּיחַbut-suffered-notלָהֶםthemרוּחַthe-Spirit-ofיֵשׁוּעַ׃Jesus.

   After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.

8. 8

   וַיַּחְלְפוּAnd-they-passing-byאֶת־מוּסְיָאMysiaוַיֵּרְדוּcame-downאֶל־טְרוֹאָס׃to-Troas.

   And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.

9. 9

   וְחָזוֹןAnd-a-visionנִרְאָהappearedאֶל־פּוֹלוֹסto-Paulבַּלָּיְלָהin-the-night;וְהִנֵּה־אִישׁThere-stood-a-man-ofמַקְדּוֹןMacedonia,נִצָּבstanding,וְהוּאand-heמְבַקֵּשׁprayedמִמֶּנּוּhim,לֵאמֹרsaying,עֲבֹרCome-overאֶל־מַקְדּוֹנְיָאinto-Macedonia,וְעׇזְרֵנוּ׃and-help-us.

   And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

10. 10

    וְכִרְאֹתוֹAnd-after-he-had-seenאֶת־הֶחָזוֹןthe-vision,וַנְּבַקֵּשׁimmediately-we-endeavoredלָלֶכֶתto-goאֶל־מַקְדּוֹנְיָאinto-Macedonia,כִּיforיָדַעְנוּassuredly-gatheringכִּיthatהָאָדוֹןthe-Lordקָרָאhad-calledלָנוּusלָלֶכֶתto-goשָׁמָּהthitherלְבַשֵּׂרfor-to-preach-the-gospelאֹתָםunto-themהַבְּשׂוֹרָה׃the-gospel.

    And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.

11. 11

    וַנֵּצֵאTherefore-loosingמִן־טְרוֹאַסfrom-Troas,וַנֵּרֶדwe-went-downבׇּאֳנִיָּהin-a-ship,וַנָּבֹאand-cameדֶּרֶךְwith-a-courseיְשָׁרָהstraightאֶל־סַמּוֹתְרַקְיָאto-Samothracia,וּמִמׇּחֳרָתand-the-next-dayאֶל־נַפּוֹלִיס׃to-Neapolis;

    Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis;

12. 12

    וּמִשָּׁםAnd-from-thenceאֶל־פִילִפִּיto-Philippi,הִיאwhich-isהָרִאשֹׁנָהthe-chiefלְעָרֵיof-the-cities-ofהַפֶּלֶךְthat-partשֶׁל־מַקְדּוֹנְיָאof-Macedonia,וּקְלוֹנְיָאand-a-colonyהָיְתָהit-was:וַנֵּשֶׁבand-we-were-abidingבָּעִירin-cityהַזֹּאתthatיָמִיםdaysאֲחָדִים׃certain.

    And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.

13. 13

    וּבְיוֹםAnd-on-the-day-ofהַשַּׁבָּתthe-sabbathיָצָאנוּwe-went-outאֶל־מִחוּץwithoutלָעִירof-the-cityאֶל־יַדby-the-side-ofהַנָּהָרa-river,אֲשֶׁר־שָׁםwhere-wasמְקוֹםthe-place-ofתְּפִילָּהprayer,כְּמִנְהָגָםas-was-wont-to-be-made;וַנֵּשֶׁבand-we-sat-down,וַנְּדַבֵּרand-spakeאֶל־הַנָּשִׁיםunto-the-womenהַנִּקְהָלוֹתwhich-resortedשָׁמָּה׃thither.

    And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

14. 14

    וְאִשָּׁהAnd-a-womanיִרְאַתwhich-worshipedאֱלֹהִיםGod,וּשְׁמָהּnamedלוּדְיָאLydia,מֹכֶרֶתa-seller-ofאַרְגָּמָןpurple,מֵעִירof-the-city-ofתִּיאֲטִירָאThyatira,שָׁמְעָהheard-us:וַיִּפְתַּחand-openedהָאָדוֹןthe-Lordאֶת־לִבָּהּher-heart,לְהַקְשִׁיבthat-she-attendedאֶל־דִּבְרֵיunto-the-things-which-were-spoken-ofפוֹלוֹס׃Paul.

    And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.

15. 15

    וַתִּטָּבֵלAnd-when-she-was-baptized,הִיאsheוּבְנֵיand-the-sons-ofבֵיתָהּher-household,וַתְּבַקֵּשׁshe-besoughtמִמֶּנּוּus,לֵאמֹרsaying,אִם־נֶאֱמֶנֶתIf-faithfulלָאָדוֹןto-the-Lordאָנֹכִיmeבְעֵינֵיכֶםyou-have-judged-to-be,בֹּאוּ־נָאcomeאֶל־בֵּיתִיinto-my-house,וּשְׁבוּ־בוֹand-abide-there.וַתִּפְצַרAnd-she-constrainedבָּנוּ׃us.

    And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

16. 16

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-pass,בְּלֶכְתֵּנוּas-we-wentלִמְקוֹםto-the-place-ofהַתְּפִלָּהprayer,וַתִּפְגַּע־בָּנוּmet-us,שִׁפְחָהa-damselבַּעֲלַתpossessed-withאוֹבa-spirit-of-divinationוְהִיאwhichעָשְׂתָהbroughtהוֹן־רַבgain-muchלַאדֹנֶיהָto-her-mastersבִּקְסָמֶיהָ׃by-soothsaying:

    And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:

17. 17

    וַתֵּלֶךְThe-same-followedאַחֲרֵיafterפוֹלוֹסPaulוְאַחֲרֵינוּand-us,הָלוֹךְgoingוְקָרוֹאand-cried,לֵאמֹרsaying,הָאֲנָשִׁיםmenהָאֵלֶּהTheseעַבְדֵיare-the-servants-ofאֵלGodעֶלְיוֹןthe-most-high,וְהֵםwhichמוֹרִיםshewאֹתָנוּunto-usדֶּרֶךְthe-way-ofהַיְשׁוּעָה׃salvation.

    The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.

18. 18

    וְכֵןAnd-thisעָשְׂתָהdid-sheיָמִיםdaysרַבִּיםmany.וַיֵּרַעBut-being-grieved,בְּעֵינֵיin-the-eyes-ofפוֹלוֹסPaulהַדָּבָרthe-thingהַזֶּהthis,וַיִּפֶןhe-turnedוַיֹּאמֶרand-saidאֶל־הָרוּחַto-the-spirit,אָנֹכִיIמְצַוְּךָcommand-youבְּשֵׁםin-the-name-ofיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַChristלָצֵאתto-come-outמִמֶּנָּהof-her.וַיֵּצֵאAnd-he-came-outבַּשָּׁעָהthe-hourהַהִיא׃same.

    And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

19. 19

    וַיִּרְאוּAnd-when-sawאֲדֹנֶיהָher-mastersכִּיthatאָבְדָהwas-gone,תּוֹחֶלֶתthe-hope-ofבִּצְעָםtheir-gainsוַיִּתְפְּשׂוּthey-caughtאֶת־פּוֹלוֹסPaulוְאֶת־סִילָאand-Silas,וַיִּסְחָבוּםand-drew-themאֶל־הָרְחוֹבinto-the-marketplaceלִפְנֵיuntoזִקְנֵיthe-rulers-ofהָעִיר׃the-city,

    And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers,

20. 20

    וַיְבִיאוּםAnd-brought-themאֶל־הַשָּׂרִיםto-the-magistrates,וַיֹּאמְרוּsaying,הָאֲנָשִׁיםmen,הָאֵלֶּהTheseעֹכְרִיםdo-exceedingly-troubleאֶת־עִירֵנוּour-city,וְהֵםbeingיְהוּדִים׃Jews,

    And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

21. 21

    וּמוֹדִיעִיםAnd-teachחֻקּוֹתcustoms,אֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־נָאוָהare-not-lawfulלָנוּfor-usלְקַבְּלָםto-receive-them,וְלַעֲשׂתָםneither-to-observe-them,כִּיbeingרוֹמִיִּיםRomansאֲנָחְנוּ׃we-are.

    And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.

22. 22

    וַיָּקׇםAnd-rose-up-togetherגַּם־הָעָםthe-multitude-alsoעֲלֵיהֶםagainst-them:וְהַשָּׂרִיםand-the-magistratesקָרְעוּrent-offאֶת־בִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir-clothesמֵעֲלֵיהֶםfrom-them,וַיְצַוּוּand-commandedלְהַכּוֹתָםto-beat-themבַּשּׁוֹטִים׃with-rods.

    And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passאַחֲרֵיwhenהַכּוֹתthey-had-laid-uponאֹתָםthemמַכָּהstripesרַבָּהmany,וַיִּתְּנוּםthey-cast-themבַּמִּשְׁמָרinto-prison,וַיְצַוּוּchargingאֶת־שׁוֹמֵרthe-keeper-ofהָאֲסוּרִיםthe-prisonלְשׇׁמְרָםto-keep-themהֵיטֵב׃safely:

    And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:

24. 24

    וְהוּאWho,כַּאֲשֶׁרasצֻוָּהhaving-received-such-a-charge,כֵּןsoעָשָׂהhe-did,וַיַּנִּיחֵםand-thrust-themבַּחֲדַרinto-the-chamber-ofהַמִּשְׁמָרthe-prisonהַפְּנִימִיinner,וַיָּשֶׂםand-made-fastאֶת־רַגְלֵיהֶםtheir-feetבַּסָּד׃in-the-stocks.

    Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיAnd-it-came-to-passכַּחֲצוֹתat-the-middle-ofהַלַּיְלָהthe-nightוּפוֹלוֹסPaulוְסִילָאand-Silasמִתְפַּלְּלִיםprayed,וּמְזַמְּרִיםand-sang-praisesלֵאלֹהִיםunto-God:וְהָאֲסוּרִיםand-the-prisonersמַקְשִׁיבִיםheardאֲלֵיהֶם׃them.

    And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

26. 26

    וְהִנֵּהAnd-suddenly-there-wasרַעַשׁan-earthquakeגָּדוֹלgreat,פִּתְאֹםsuddenly,וַיָּזֻעוּso-that-were-shakenמוֹסְדוֹתthe-foundations-ofבֵּיתthe-house-ofהַכֶּלֶאthe-prison:וַתִּפָּתַחְנָהand-immediately-were-openedכׇל־הַדְּלָתוֹתall-the-doors,וּמוֹסְרוֹתand-the-bands-ofכֻּלָּםevery-oneנִתָּקוּ׃were-loosed.

    And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed.

27. 27

    וְשׁוֹמֵרAnd-the-keeper-ofהָאֲסוּרִיםthe-prisonנֵעוֹרawakingמִשְּׁנָתוֹout-of-his-sleep,וַיַּרְאand-seeingוְהִנֵּהbeholdדַּלְתוֹתthe-doors-ofהַמִּשְׁמָרthe-prisonנִפְתָּחוֹתopen,וַיִּשְׁלֹףhe-drew-outחַרְבּוֹhis-sword,וַיְבַקֵּשׁand-wouldלְאַבֵּדhave-killedעַצְמוֹhimself,כִּי־אָמַרsupposing-thatבָּרְחוּhad-been-fledהָאֲסוּרִים׃the-prisoners.

    And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.

28. 28

    וַיִּקְרָאBut-criedפוֹלוֹסPaulבְּקוֹלwith-a-voiceגָּדוֹלloud,לֵאמֹרsaying,אַל־תַּעַשׂDo-notלְךָthyselfרָעָהharm:כִּי־הִנֵּהfor-beholdאֲנַחְנוּwe-areכֻּלָּנוּ׃all-here.

    But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.

29. 29

    וַיִּשְׁאַלThen-he-called-forנֵרוֹתa-light,וַיְדַלֵּגand-sprangהַחֶדְרָהin,וְהוּאand-heמַרְעִידcame-trembling,וַיִּפֹּלand-fell-downלְרַגְלֵיbefore-the-feet-ofפוֹלוֹסPaulוְסִילָא׃and-Silas,

    Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,

30. 30

    וַיּוֹצִיאֵםAnd-brought-them-out,וַיֹּאמַרand-said,אֲדֹנַיSirs,מָהwhatאֶעֱשֶׂהmust-I-doוְאִוָּשֵׁעַ׃to-be-saved?

    And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31. 31

    וַיֹּאמְרוּAnd-they-said,הָאֲמֵןBelieveבָּאָדוֹןon-the-LordיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַChrist,וְתִוָּשַׁעand-you-shall-be-saved,אַתָּהyouוּבֵיתֶךָ׃and-your-house.

    And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

32. 32

    וַיַּגִּידוּ־לוֹAnd-they-spake-unto-himאֶת־דְּבַרthe-word-ofיְהוָֹהthe-Lord,וּלְכֹלand-to-allאֲשֶׁרthat-wereבְּבֵיתוֹ׃in-his-house.

    And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

33. 33

    וַיִּקָּחֵםAnd-he-took-themבַּלַּיְלָהof-the-nightבַּשָּׁעָהthe-hourהַהִיאsame,וַיִּרְחַץand-washedאֶת־חַבּוּרֹתֵיהֶםtheir-stripes;וַיִּטָּבֵלand-was-baptized,הוּאheוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ׃and-all-his,-straightway.

    And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

34. 34

    וַיַּעֲלֵםAnd-when-he-had-brought-themאֶל־בֵּיתוֹinto-his-house,וַיַּעֲרֹךhe-setשֻׁלְחָןa-tableלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore-them,וַיָּגֶלand-rejoiced,עִם־כׇּל־בֵּיתוֹwith-all-his-houseכִּיforמַאֲמִיןbelievingהָיָהhe-wasבֵּאלֹהִים׃in-God.

    And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

35. 35

    וּבִהְיֹתAnd-when-it-wasהַבֹּקֶרday,שָׁלְחוּsentהַשָּׂרִיםthe-magistratesאֶת־הַשּׁוֹטְרִיםthe-serjeants,לֵאמֹרsaying,שַׁלַּחLet-goאֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁיםmenהָהֵם׃those.

    And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.

36. 36

    וַיַּגֵּדAnd-toldשֹׁמֵרthe-keeper-ofהָאֲסוּרִיםthe-prisonלְפוֹלוֹסto-Paulאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםsayingהָאֵלֶּהthis,לֵאמֹרsaying,שָׁלְחוּhave-sentהַשָּׂרִיםThe-magistratesלִפְטֹרto-let-goאֶתְכֶםyou:וְעַתָּהnow-thereforeצְאוּdepart,וּלְכוּand-goבְשָׁלוֹם׃in-peace.

    And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.

37. 37

    וַיֹּאמֶרBut-saidפּוֹלוֹסPaulאֲלֵיהֶםunto-them,הַכֵּהbeatenהִכּוּנוּThey-have-beaten-usנֶגֶדopenly-beforeכׇּל־הָעָםall-the-peopleבְּלֹא־דִיןuncondemned,וּמִשְׁפָּטwithout-judgment,וַאֲנַחְנוּbeingאֲנָשִׁיםmenרוֹמִיִּיםRomans,וַיַּשְׁלִיכוּand-have-castאֹתָנוּusבַּמִּשְׁמָרinto-prison;וְעַתָּהand-nowבַּסֵּתֶרprivily?יְגָרֲשׁוּנוּdo-they-thrust-us-outאַל־נָאnay-verily;כִּיbutאִם־יָבֹאוֹlet-them-comeהֵמָּהthemselvesוְיוֹצִיאוּנוּ׃and-fetch-us-out.

    But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

38. 38

    וַיַּגִּידוּAnd-toldהַשֹּׁטְרִיםthe-serjeantsלַשָּׂרִיםunto-the-magistrates:אֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםwordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיְהִיand-it-came-to-passכְּשׇׁמְעָםwhen-they-heardכִּי־רוֹמִיִּיםthat-Romansהֵםthey-were,וַיִּירָאוּ׃they-feared.

    And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

39. 39

    וַיָּבֹאוּAnd-they-cameוַיְחַלּוּand-besoughtפְנֵיהֶםthem,וַיּוֹצִיאוּםand-brought-them-out,וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּand-desiredמֵהֶםthemלָצֵאתto-departמִן־הָעִיר׃out-of-the-city.

    And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

40. 40

    וַיֵּצְאוּAnd-they-went-outמִן־הַמִּשְׁמָרof-the-prison,וַיָּבֹאוּand-enteredאֶל־בֵּיתinto-the-house-ofלוּדְיָאLydia:וַיִּרְאוּand-when-they-had-seenאֶת־הָאַחִיםthe-brethren,וַיַּזְהִירוּםthey-comforted-them,וַיֵּלְכוּand-departedלְדַרְכָּם׃on-their-way.

    And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
