   בָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOhis handלְהָרַעle/ha/RAto harmלַאֲנָשִׁיםla/a/na/SHIMmenמִן־הַקְּהִלָּה׃min-hak/ke/hil/LAof the church

   Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

2. 2

   וַיָּמֶתvay/YA/metand he killedאֶת־יַעֲקֹבet-Ya/a/KOVJamesאֲחִיa/CHIthe brother ofיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohnבֶּחָרֶב׃be/CHA/revwith the sword

   And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

   וַיַּרְאvay/YARand he sawכִּי־טוֹבki-tovthat goodהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARwas the thingבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyes ofהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsוַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefand he continuedלִתְפֹּשׂlit/POSto seizeגַּם־אֶת־פֶּטְרוֹסgam-et-Pet/ROSalso Peterוְהַיָּמִיםve/hay/ya/MIMand the days wereיְמֵיye/MEthe days ofחַג־הַמַּצּוֹת׃chag-ham/mats/TSOTthe feast of unleavened bread

   And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

   וַיֹּאחֶזvay/YO/chezand he seizedאֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיִּתְּנֵהוּvay/yit/te/NE/huand put himבְּמִשְׁמָרbe/mish/MARin custodyוַיִּמְסְרֵהוּvay/yim/se/re/HUand delivered himלְאַרְבַּעle/ar/BAto fourמַחְלְקוֹתmach/le/KOTsquadsאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEmen ofצָבָאtsa/VAthe armyאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Afourאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Afourלְשׇׁמְרוֹle/shom/ROto guard himכִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARhe intendedלְהַעֲלוֹתוֹle/ha/a/lo/TOto bring him upאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהַפֶּסַחhap/PE/sachthe Passoverלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָעָם׃ha/AMthe people

   And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

   Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַלַּיְלָהval/LAY/lain the nightאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאָמַרa/MARintendedהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodלַהֲבִיאוֹla/ha/vi/Oto bring himמָחָרma/CHARtomorrowוַיִּישַׁןvay/yi/SHANand was sleepingפֶּטְרוֹסPet/ROSPeterבֵּין־שְׁנֵיben-she/NEbetween twoאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEmen ofצָבָאtsa/VAthe armyוְהוּאve/HUand he wasאָסוּרa/SURboundבִּשְׁנַיִםbish/NA/yimwith twoזִקִּיםzik/KIMchainsוְשֹׁמְרֵיve/shom/REand the guards ofהַפֶּתַחhap/PE/tachthe doorשֹׁמְרִיםshom/RIMwere guardingאֶת־הַמִּשְׁמָר׃et-ham/mish/MARthe custody

   And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdמַלְאַךְmal/AKHan angel ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDנִצָּבnits/TSAVstoodעָלָיוa/LAYVby himוְאוֹרve/ORand a lightנָגַהּna/GAshoneבַּמִּשְׁמָרbam/mish/MARin custodyוַיַּךְvay/YAKHand struckעַל־צַדal-tsadon the side ofפֶּטְרוֹסPet/ROSPeterוַיְעִירֵהוּvay/i/re/HUand woke himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingקוּםkumriseמְהֵרָהme/he/RAquicklyוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand fellזִקָּיוzik/KAYVhis chainsמֵעַלme/ALfromיָדָיו׃ya/DAYVhis hands

   And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelחֲגֹרcha/GORgirdמׇתְנֶיךָmot/NE/khayour loinsוְהַנְעֵלve/han/ELand put sandals onאֶת־רַגְלֶיךָet-rag/LE/khayour feetוַיַּעַשׂvay/YA/asand he didכֵּןkensoוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himעֲטֵהa/TEwrapמְעִילְךָme/i/le/KHAyour cloakוְלֵךְve/LEKHand walkאַחֲרָי׃a/cha/RAYafter me

   And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

   וַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand he went outוַיֵּלֶךְvay/YE/lekhand walkedאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדַעya/DAdid he knowאִם־אֱמֶתim-e/METif trueהוּאhuisהַנַּעֲשֶׂה־לּוֹhan/na/a/SE-lowhat was done to himעַל־יְדֵיal-ye/DEbyהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelכִּיkibutכְּמַרְאֶהke/mar/Elike a visionהָיָהha/YAit wasבְּעֵינָיו׃be/e/NAYVin his eyes

   And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

    וַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand they passedדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhthroughהַמִּשְׁמֶרֶתham/mish/ME/retthe guardהָרִאשׁוֹנָהha/ri/sho/NAfirstוְהַשְּׁנִיָּהve/hash/she/niy/YAand the secondוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameעַד־שַׁעַרad-SHA/arto the gate ofהַבַּרְזֶלhab/bar/ZELironאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיֵצְאוּyets/Uthey go outבוֹvoby itהָעִירָהha/I/rato the cityוַיִּפָּתַחvay/yip/PA/tachand was openedהַשַּׁעַרhash/SHA/arthe gateלִפְנֵיהֶםlif/ne/HEMbefore themמֵאֵלָיוme/e/LAYVby itselfוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went outהַחוּצָהha/CHU/tsaoutsideוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand they passedרְחוֹבre/CHOVa streetאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland went upהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelמֵעָלָיוme/a/LAYVfrom himפִּתְאֹם׃pit/OMsuddenly

    When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבְּשׁוּבbe/SHUVwhen returnedדַּעְתּוֹda/TOhis mindעָלָיוa/LAYVto himוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidפֶּטְרוֹסPet/ROSPeterעַתָּהat/TAnowזֶהzethisיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowבֶאֱמֶתve/e/METtrulyכִּיkithatהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentאֶת־מַלְאָכוֹet-mal/a/KHOhis angelוַיְפַלְּטֵנִיvay/fal/le/te/NIand rescued meמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the hand ofהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodוּמִכׇּל־תִּקְוַתu/mik/KOL-tik/VATand from all the expectation ofעַםamthe people ofהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jews

    And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

    הוּאhuheחֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVconsideredכָּזֹאתka/ZOTthisוְהוּאve/HUand heבָאvacameעַד־בֵּיתad-betto the house ofמִרְיָםMir/YAMMaryאֵםemthe mother ofיוֹחָנָןYo/cha/NANJohnהַמְכֻנֶּהham/khun/NEwho was surnamedמַרְקוֹסMar/KOSMarkאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereנִקְהֲלוּ־שָׁםnik/ha/LU-shamwere gathered thereרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוְהֵםve/HEMand they wereמִתְפַּלֲלִיםmit/pa/la/LIMprayingיָחַד׃YA/chadtogether

    And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

    וַיִּדְפֹּקvay/yid/POKand he knockedעַל־דֶּלֶתal-DE/letat the door ofהַשָּׁעַרhash/SHA/arthe gateוַתִּגַּשׁvat/tig/GASHand came nearנַעֲרָהna/a/RAa girlלְהַקְשִׁיבle/hak/SHIVto listenוּשְׁמָהּu/she/MAand her nameרוֹדִי׃Ro/DIRhoda

    And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

    וַתַּכֵּרvat/tak/KERand she recognizedאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe voice ofפֶּטְרוֹסPet/ROSPeterוּמִשִּׂמְחָתָהּu/mis/sim/cha/TAand from her joyלֹא־פָתְחָהlo-fa/te/CHAshe did not openלּוֹloto himאֶת־דֶּלֶתet-DE/letthe door ofהַשָּׁעַרhash/SHA/arthe gateוַתָּרׇץvat/TA/rotsand she ranהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tainto the houseוַתַּגֵּדvat/tag/GEDand toldלָהֶםla/HEMthemכִּי־פֶטְרוֹסki-Fet/ROSthat Peterעֹמֵדo/MEDwas standingעַל־הַפָּתַח׃al-hap/PA/tachat the door

    And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

    וַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidאֵלֶיהָe/LE/hato herמְשֻׁגַּעַתme/shug/GA/atmadאָתְּattare youוְהִיאve/HIand sheמִתְאַמֶּצֶתmit/am/ME/tsetinsistedכִי־כֵןkhi-khenthat soהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARwas the thingוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמַלְאָכוֹmal/a/KHOhis angelהוּא׃huit is

    And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

16. 16

    וּפֶטְרוֹסu/Fet/ROSand Peterדֹּפֵקdo/FEKwas knockingעוֹדodstillוַיִּפְתְּחוּvay/yif/te/CHUand they openedוַיִּרְאֻהוּvay/yir/U/huand saw himוַיִּתְמָהוּ׃vay/yit/MA/huand marveled

    But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

    וַיִּרְמֹזvay/yir/MOZand he signaledלָהֶםla/HEMto themבְּיָדוֹbe/ya/DOwith the handלַחֲשׁוֹתla/cha/SHOTto be silentוַיְסַפֵּרvay/sap/PERand recountedלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֲשֶׁר־הוֹצִיאוֹa/SHER-ho/tsi/Ohow had brought him outהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordמִן־הַמִּשְׁמָרmin-ham/mish/MARfrom custodyוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidהַגִּידוּhag/GI/dutellאֶת־זֹאתet-zotthisלְיַעֲקֹבle/Ya/a/KOVto Jamesוְלָאַחִיםve/la/a/CHIMand to the brothersוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand he went outוַיֵּלֶךְ־לוֹvay/YE/lekh-loand went awayלְמָקוֹםle/ma/KOMto a placeאַחֵר׃a/CHERanother

    But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

18. 18

    הַבֹּקֶרhab/BO/kerthe morningאוֹרorgrew lightוּמְבוּכָהu/me/vu/KHAand confusionרַבָּהrab/BAgreatהָיְתָהha/ye/TAthere wasבֵּיןbenamongאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe men ofהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyעַל־פֶּטְרוֹסal-Pet/ROSabout Peterוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidמֶה־הָיָהme-HA/yawhat has happenedלוֹ׃loto him

    Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenבִּקֵּשׁbik/KESHsoughtאוֹתוֹo/TOhimהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodוְלֹאve/LOand notמְצָאוֹme/TSA/odid he find himחָקַרcha/KARhe examinedאֶת־הַשֹּׁמְרִיםet-hash/shom/RIMthe keepersוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand he commandedלְהוֹצִיאָםle/ho/tsi/AMto take them outלַמָּוֶתlam/MA/vetto deathוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand he went downמִיהוּדָהmI/hu/DAfrom Judaeaאֶל־קֵיסַרְיָהel-Ke/sar/YAto Caesareaוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand stayedשָׁם׃shamthere

    And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.

    וְהוֹרְדוֹסve/Hor/DOSand Herodאָזazthenנֹטֵרno/TERheld a grudgeאֶת־בְּנֵי־צוֹרet-Be/NE-tsoragainst the sons of Tyreוְצִידוֹןve/Tsi/DONand Sidonוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand they cameאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himלֵבlevwith a heartאֶחָדe/CHADoneוַיְפַתּוּvay/fat/TUand they persuadedאֶת־בְּלַסְטוֹסet-Be/las/TOSBlastusאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wasעַל־חֲדַרal-cha/DARover the chamber ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand they askedשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceיַעַןYA/anbecauseלָקְחוּla/ke/CHUthey tookמִחְיַתmich/YATthe sustenance ofאַרְצוֹתָםar/tso/TAMtheir countryמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsfrom the land ofהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhthe king

    And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it came to passבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMon the dayהַמּוּעָדham/mu/ADappointedוַיִּלְבַּשׁvay/yil/BASHand put onהוֹרְדוֹסHor/DOSHerodלְבוּשׁle/VUSHgarments ofמַלְכוּתmal/KHUTroyaltyוַיֵּשֶׁבvay/YE/shevand satעַל־כִּסְאוֹal-kis/Oon his throneוַיַּטֵּףvay/yat/TEFand he discoursedאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMto themאִמְרָתוֹ׃im/ra/TOhis speech

    And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

22. 22

    וַיָּרִיעוּvay/ya/RI/uand shoutedלוֹloto himהָעָםha/AMthe peopleלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingקוֹלkolthe voice ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMa godהוּאhuit isוְלֹאve/LOand notקוֹלkolthe voice ofאָדָם׃a/DAMa man

    And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

    וַיַּכֵּהוּvay/yak/KE/huand struck himמַלְאַךְ־יְהוָֹהmal/AKH-Adonaithe angel of the LORDפִּתְאֹםpit/OMsuddenlyעֵקֶבE/kevbecauseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־נָתַןlo-na/TANhe did not giveכָּבוֹדka/VODthe gloryלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMto Godוַיֹּאכְלֻהוּvay/yo/khe/LU/huand ate himתוֹלָעִיםto/la/IMwormsוַיִּגְוַע׃vay/yig/VAand he expired

    And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

24. 24

    וּדְבַרu/de/VARand the word ofיְהוָֹהAdonaithe LORDהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHwentוָרָב׃va/RAVand grew

    But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25. 25

    וַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand returnedבַּר־נַבָּאBar-nab/BABarnabasוְשָׁאוּלve/Sha/ULand SaulמִירוּשָׁלָיִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalemאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REwhenכַלּוֹתָםkhal/lo/TAMthey completedאֶת־שֵׁרוּתָםet-she/ru/TAMtheir ministryוַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאִתָּםit/TAMwith themאֶת־יוֹחָנָןet-Yo/cha/NANJohnהַמְכֻנֶּהham/khun/NEwho was surnamedמַרְקוֹס׃Mar/KOSMark

    And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.
