1. 1

   הַזָּקֵןthe-elderאֶל־גָּיוֹסunto-Gaiusיְדִידִיthe-wellbelovedאֲשֶׁרwhomאֲנִיIאֹהֵבloveאֹתוֹhimבֶּאֱמֶת׃in-the-truth

   The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2. 2

   יְדִידִיbelovedרְצוֹנִיI-wishשֶׁיִּיטַבthat-may-prosperלְךָyouלְכׇל־דָּבָרabove-all-thingsוְתִהְיֶהand-beבָרִיאin-healthכְּטוֹבeven-as-prosperethלְנַפְשֶׁךָ׃your-soul

   Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

   כִּיforשָׂמַחְתִּיI-rejoicedמְאֹדgreatlyכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenבָּאוּcameאַחִיםthe-brethrenוַיָּעִידוּand-testifiedעַל־אֲמִתֶּךָof-your-truthאֲשֶׁרeven-asמִתְהַלֵּךְwalkestאַתָּהyouבָּאֱמֶת׃in-the-truth

   For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

   אֵיןthere-is-noלִיto-meשִׂמְחָהjoyגְדוֹלָהgreaterמִלִּשְׁמֹעַthan-to-hearאֶת־בָּנַיmy-childrenמִתְהַלְּכִיםwalkבָּאֱמֶת׃in-truth

   I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

   יְדִידִיbelovedבֶּאֱמוּנָהfaithfullyכׇּל־מַעֲשֶׂיךָyou-do-all-your-worksעִם־הָאַחִיםto-the-brethrenוְעִם־הָאֹרְחִים׃and-to-strangers

   Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

   אֲשֶׁרwhichהֵעִידוּhave-borne-witnessעַל־אַהֲבָתְךָof-your-charityבִּפְנֵיbeforeהַקָּהָלthe-churchוְיָפֶהand-wellתַעֲשֶׂהyou-shall-doלְשַׁלַּחto-bring-forwardאֹתָםthemכָּרָאוּיas-is-fittingלִפְנֵיbeforeאֱלֹהִים׃God

   Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

   כִּיbecauseלְמַעַןfor-the-sake-ofשְׁמוֹhis-nameיָצָאוּthey-went-forthוְלֹאand-notלָקְחוּtookדָבָרanythingמִן־הַגּוֹיִם׃of-the-Gentiles

   Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

8. 8

   עַל־כֵּןthereforeעָלֵינוּwe-oughtלְקַבֵּלto-receiveאֹתָםthemלְמַעַןthatנִהְיֶהwe-might-beעֹזְרִיםfellowhelpersלָאֱמֶת׃to-the-truth

   We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

9. 9

   אֲנִיIכָתַבְתִּיwroteאֶל־הַקְּהִלָּהunto-the-churchאֲבָלbutדִּיּוֹטְרִיפַסDiotrephesהַמִּתְאַוֶּהwho-lovethלִהְיוֹתto-haveלָהֶםamong-themלְרֹאשׁthe-preeminenceאֵינֶנּוּnotמְקַבֵּלreceivethאֹתָנוּ׃us

   I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10. 10

    עַל־כֵּןwhereforeבְּבֹאִיif-I-comeאַזְכִּירI-will-rememberאֶת־מַעֲשָׂיוhis-deedsאֲשֶׁרwhichהוּאheעֹשֶׂהdoethלְבַטֵּאpratingעָלֵינוּagainst-usדְּבָרִיםwordsרָעִיםmaliciousוְלֹאand-notדַּי־לוֹcontentבָזֶהtherewithכִּיbutגַםalsoאֶת־הָאַחִיםthe-brethrenלֹאnotיְקַבֵּלdoth-he-receiveוְיִמְנַעand-forbiddethאֶת־הַחֲפֵצִיםthem-that-wouldלְקַבְּלָםreceive-themוַיְגָרֲשֵׁםand-casteth-them-outמִתּוֹךְofהַקָּהָל׃the-church

    Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

    יְדִידִיbelovedאַל־תֵּלֵךְfollow-notבְּעִקְּבוֹתthe-footsteps-ofהָרָעָהthat-which-is-evilכִּיbutאִם־בְּעִקְּבוֹתthe-footsteps-ofהַטּוֹבthat-which-is-goodהָעֹשֶׂהhe-that-doethטוֹבgoodהוּאisמֵאֱלֹהִיםof-Godוְהָעֹשֶׂהbut-he-that-doethרַעevilלֹאnotרָאָהhath-seenאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִים׃God

    Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

    עַל־דְּמַטְרִיּוֹסof-Demetriusהֵעִידוּhave-borne-witnessהַכֹּלall-menוְגַם־הָאֱמֶתand-also-the-truthעַצְמָהּitselfוְגַם־אֲנַחְנוּyea-and-we-alsoמְעִידִיםbear-recordעָלָיוof-himוִידַעְתֶּםand-you-knowכִּיthatעֵדוּתֵנוּour-recordנֶאֱמָנָה׃is-true

    Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13. 13

    הַרְבֵּהmany-thingsיֶשׁ־לִיI-haveלִכְתֹּבto-writeוְלֹאbut-notחָפַצְתִּיI-wouldלִכְתֹּבwriteאֵלֶיךָunto-youבִּדְיוֹwith-inkוּבְקוֹלָמוֹס׃and-pen

    I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14. 14

    אֲבָלbutאֲקַוֶּהI-trustלִרְאוֹתְךָto-see-youבִּמְהֵרָהshortlyוּפֶהand-faceאֶל־פֶּהto-faceנְדַבֵּר׃we-shall-speak

    But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

    שָׁלוֹםpeaceלָךְbe-to-youהָרֵעִיםthe-friendsשֹׁאֲלִיםsaluteלִשְׁלוֹמֶךָyouשְׁאַלgreetלִשְׁלוֹםthe-welfare-ofהָרֵעִיםthe-friendsלְאִישׁeachאִישׁoneבִּשְׁמוֹ׃by-his-name
