   הַזָּקֵןhaz/za/KENthe elderאֶל־הַגְּבִירָהel-hag/ge/vi/RAto the ladyהַבְּחִירָהhab/be/chi/RAchosenוְאֶל־בָּנֶיהָve/EL-ba/NE/haand to her childrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomאֲנִיa/NIIאֹהֵבo/HEVloveאֹתָםo/TAMthemבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METin truthוְלֹא־אֲנִיve/LO-a/NIand not Iלְבַדִּיle/vad/DIaloneכִּיkibutאִם־גַּםim-gamrather alsoכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERall whoיָדְעוּya/de/Uhave knownאֶת־הָאֱמֶת׃et-ha/e/METthe truth

   The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;

   לְמַעַןle/MA/anfor the sake ofהָאֱמֶתha/e/METthe truthהַשֹּׁכֶנֶתhash/sho/KHE/netthat dwellsבָּנוּBA/nuin usוְגַם־תִּהְיֶהve/GAM-tih/YEand also will beעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuwith usלְעוֹלָם׃le/o/LAMforever

   For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

   יְהִיye/HImay beעִמָּכֶםim/ma/KHEMwith youחֶסֶדCHE/sedgraceרַחֲמִיםra/cha/MIMmercyוְשָׁלוֹםve/sha/LOMand peaceמֵאֵתme/ETfromהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהָאָבha/AVthe Fatherוּמֵאֵתu/me/ETand fromהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe LordיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahבֶּן־הָאָבben-Ha/AVthe Son of the Fatherבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METin truthוּבְאַהֲבָה׃u/ve/a/ha/VAand in love

   Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

   I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowמְבַקֵּשׁme/vak/KESHaskאֲנִיa/NIIמִמֵּךְmim/MEKHof youהַגְּבִירָהhag/ge/vi/RAladyוְלֹאve/LOand notכְּכֹתֵבke/kho/TEVas writingאֵלַיִךְe/LA/yikhto youמִצְוָהmits/VAa commandmentחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewכִּיkibutאִם־אֵתim-etrather whatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהָיְתָה־לָּנוּha/ye/TA-LA/nuwe hadמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningלְאַהֲבָהle/a/ha/VAto loveאִישׁisha manאֶת־אָחִיו׃et-a/CHIVhis brother

   And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.

   וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisהִיאhiisהָאַהֲבָהha/a/ha/VAloveאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנִתְהַלֵּךְnit/hal/LEKHwe walkבְּמִצְוֹתָיוbe/mits/vo/TAYVin His commandmentsזֹאתzotthisהִיאhiisהַמִּצְוָהham/mits/VAthe commandmentאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMyou have heardמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningלְהִתְהַלֵּךְle/hit/hal/LEKHto walkבָּהּ׃bain it

   And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

   כִּיkiforמַתְעִיםmat/IMdeceiversרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyבָּאוּBA/uhave comeלָעוֹלָםla/o/LAMinto the worldאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאֵינָםe/NAMdo notמוֹדִיםmo/DIMconfessכִּיkithatיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahבָּאbacameבַבָּשָׂרvab/ba/SARin the fleshזֶהzethisהוּאhuisמַתְעֶהmat/Eone who leads astrayוְאוֹיֵבve/o/YEVand an enemy ofהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiah

   For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8. 8

   הִשָּׁמְרוּhish/sha/me/RUbewareלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesפֶּן־נְאַבֵּדpen-ne/ab/BEDlest we loseאֵתetthatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichפָּעַלְנוּpa/al/NUwe have workedכִּיkibutאִם־נִקַּחim-nik/KACHrather that we takeמַשְׂכֻּרְתֵּנוּmas/kur/te/NUour wagesשְׁלֵמָה׃she/le/MAfull

   Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

   כׇּל־הָעֹבֵרkol-ha/o/VEReveryone who transgressesעַל־תּוֹרַתal-to/RATthe teaching ofהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahוְאֵינֶנּוּve/e/NEN/nuand does notעֹמֵדo/MEDremainבָּהּbain itאֵיןenthere is notלוֹloto himאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוְהָעֹמֵדve/ha/o/MEDand the one who remainsבְּתוֹרַתbe/to/RATin the teaching ofהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahיֶשׁ־לוֹyesh-lohe hasגַּם־הָאָבgam-Ha/AVboth the Fatherגַּם־הַבֵּן׃gam-Hab/BENand the Son

   Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10. 10

    אִם־יָבוֹאim-ya/VOif comesאִישׁishanyאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youוְלֹאve/LOand does notיָבִיאya/VIbringאֶת־הַתּוֹרָהet-hat/to/RAthe teachingהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisלֹא־תְאַסְּפוּlo-te/as/se/FUdo not take inאֹתוֹo/TOhimהַבַּיְתָהhab/BAY/tainto the houseוְלֹאve/LOand notתִשְׁאֲלוּ־לוֹtish/a/LU-loask himלְשָׁלוֹם׃le/sha/LOMafter peace

    If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11. 11

    כִּיkiforהַשֹּׁאֵלhash/sho/ELthe one who asksלוֹlohimלְשָׁלוֹםle/sha/LOMafter peaceחָבֵרcha/VERa companionהוּאhuisלְמַעֲשָׂיוle/ma/a/SAYVin his deedsהָרָעִים׃ha/ra/IMevil

    For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

    הַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuchיֶשׁ־לִיyesh-liI haveלִכְתֹּבlikh/TOVto writeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youלֹאlonotחָפַצְתִּיcha/FATS/tidid I wantלִכְתֹּבlikh/TOVto writeבִּנְיָרbin/YARwith paperוּבִדְיוֹu/vid/YOand inkכִּיkibutאִם־אֲקַוֶּהim-a/kav/VErather I hopeלָבוֹאla/VOto comeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youוּלְדַבֵּרu/le/dab/BERand to speakפָּנִיםpa/NIMfaceאֶל־פָּנִיםel-pa/NIMto faceלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּהְיֶהtih/YEmay beשִׂמְחָתֵנוּsim/cha/te/NUour joyשְׁלֵמָה׃she/le/MAcomplete

    Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

    בְּנֵיbe/NEthe sons ofאֲחוֹתֵךְa/cho/TEKHyour sisterהַבְּחִירָהhab/be/chi/RAchosenשֹׁאֲלִיםsho/a/LIMaskלִשְׁלוֹמֵךְlish/lo/MEKHafter your peaceאָמֵן׃a/MENamen

    The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.
