1. 1

   כׇּל־הַמַּאֲמִיןwhosoever-believethכִּיthatיֵשׁוּעַJesusהוּאisהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahהוּאheנוֹלָדis-bornמֵאֱלֹהִיםof-Godוְכׇל־הָאֹהֵבand-every-one-that-lovethאֶת־מוֹלִידוֹhim-that-begatיֶאֱהַבlovethגַּםalsoאֶת־הַנּוֹלָדhim-that-is-begottenמֵאִתּוֹ׃of-him

   Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

   בְּזֹאתby-thisנֵדַעwe-knowכִּיthatנֶאֱהַבwe-loveאֶת־בְּנֵיthe-children-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּאַהֲבָתֵנוּwhen-we-loveאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodוּבְשָׁמְרֵנוּand-keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיו׃his-commandments

   By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3. 3

   כִּיforזֹאתthisאַהֲבַתis-the-love-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodאֲשֶׁרthatנִשְׁמֹרwe-keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיוhis-commandmentsוּמִצְוֹתָיוand-his-commandmentsבִּלְתִּיnotקָשׁוֹתgrievousהֵנָּה׃are

   For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4. 4

   כִּי־כֹלfor-whatsoeverהַנּוֹלָדis-bornמֵאֵתofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodמְנַצֵּחַovercomethאֶת־הָעוֹלָםthe-worldוֶאֱמוּנָתֵנוּand-our-faithהִיאisהַנִּצָּחוֹןthe-victoryהַמְּנַצֵּחַthat-overcomethאֶת־הָעוֹלָם׃the-world

   For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

   מִיwhoהַמְּנַצֵּחַis-he-that-overcomethאֶת־הָעוֹלָםthe-worldכִּיbutאִם־הַמַּאֲמִיןhe-that-believethבְּיֵשׁוּעַin-Jesusשֶׁהוּאthat-he-isבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִים׃the-Son-of-God

   Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

   זֶהthisהוּאis-heאֲשֶׁר־בָּאthat-cameבְּמַיִםby-waterוּבְדָםand-bloodוּבְרוּחַand-by-the-SpiritיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahלֹאnotבְּמַיִםby-waterבִּלְבַדonlyכִּיbutאִםratherבַּמַּיִםby-waterוּבַדָּםand-bloodוְהָרוּחַand-the-Spiritהוּאit-isהַמֵּעִידthat-beareth-witnessכִּיbecauseהָרוּחַthe-Spiritהוּאisהָאֱמֶת׃truth

   This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

   כִּיforשְׁלֹשָׁהthreeהַמְּעִידִיםthat-bear-recordבַּשָּׁמַיִםin-heavenהָאָבthe-Fatherהַדָּבָרthe-Wordוְרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁand-the-Holy-Ghostוּשְׁלָשְׁתָּםand-these-threeאֶחָדoneהֵמָּה׃are

   For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8. 8

   וּשְׁלֹשָׁהand-threeהֵמָּהthere-areהַמְּעִידִיםthat-bear-witnessבָּאָרֶץin-earthהָרוּחַthe-Spiritהַמַּיִםthe-waterוְהַדָּםand-the-bloodוּשְׁלָשְׁתָּםand-these-threeעֵדוּתare-of-testimonyאֶחָת׃one

   And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9. 9

   הֵן־נְקַבֵּלif-we-receiveעֵדוּתthe-witness-ofבְּנֵיthe-sons-ofאָדָםmenוְעֵדוּתand-the-witness-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodהֲלֹאisגְדוֹלָהgreaterמִמֶּנָּהthan-itכִּיforזֹאתthisהִיאisעֵדוּתthe-witness-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵעִידhe-hath-testifiedעַל־בְּנוֹ׃of-his-Son

   If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10. 10

    הַמַּאֲמִיןhe-that-believethבְּבֶן־הָאֱלֹהִיםon-the-Son-of-Godיֶשׁ־לוֹhathעֵדוּתthe-witnessבְּנַפְשׁוֹin-himselfוַאֲשֶׁרhe-thatלֹאnotיַאֲמִיןbelievethלֵאלֹהִיםGodלְכֹזֵבa-liarשָׂמָהוּhath-made-himיַעַןbecauseלֹא־הֶאֱמִיןhe-believeth-notבָּעֵדוּתthe-recordאֲשֶׁרwhichהֵעִידgaveהָאֱלֹהִיםGodעַל־בְּנוֹ׃of-his-Son

    He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11. 11

    וְזֹאתand-thisהִיאisהָעֵדוּתthe-recordכִּיthatחַיֵּיthe-life-ofעוֹלָםeternalנָתַןhath-givenלָנוּusהָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְהַחַיִּיםand-the-lifeהָאֵלֶּהthisבִּבְנוֹin-his-Sonהֵמָּה׃is

    And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12. 12

    אֲשֶׁרhe-thatיֶשׁ־לוֹhathהַבֵּןthe-Sonיֶשׁ־לוֹhathהַחַיִּיםlifeוַאֲשֶׁרhe-thatאֵין־לוֹhath-notבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe-Son-of-Godאֵיןnotלוֹhe-hathהַחַיִּים׃life

    He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13. 13

    זֹאתthese-thingsכָּתַבְתִּיI-have-writtenאֲלֵיכֶםunto-youלְמַעַןthatתֵּדְעוּןyou-may-knowשֶׁחַיֵּיthat-the-life-ofעוֹלָםeternalלָכֶםyou-haveהַמַּאֲמִינִיםyou-that-believeבְּשֵׁםon-the-name-ofבֶּן־הָאֱלֹהִים׃the-Son-of-God

    These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14. 14

    וּבִטְחוֹנֵנוּand-our-confidenceבוֹin-himשֶׁאִם־נִשְׁאַלthat-if-we-askדָּבָרany-thingכִּרְצוֹנוֹaccording-to-his-willיִשְׁמַעhe-hearethבְּקוֹלֵנוּ׃us

    And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15. 15

    וּלְפִיand-ifשֶׁיֹּדְעִיםwe-knowאֲנַחְנוּweכִּיthatיִשְׁמַעhe-hearבְּקוֹלֵנוּusלְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרwhatsoeverנִשְׁאָלwe-askנֵדַעwe-knowגַּם־זֹאתalso-thisכִּיthatהוּאheמְמַלֵּאfulfillethמִשְׁאֲלוֹתֵינוּ׃our-petitions

    And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16. 16

    אִישׁif-any-manכִּי־יִרְאֶהseeאֶת־אָחִיוhis-brotherחוֹטֵאsinחַטָּאתa-sinאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵינֶנָּהis-notלַמָּוֶתunto-deathשָׁאֹלhe-shall-surelyיִשְׁאַלaskבַּעֲדוֹfor-himוְיִתֶּן־לוֹand-he-shall-give-himחַיִּיםlifeלְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרfor-them-thatחָטְאוּsinוְלֹאand-notלַמָּוֶתunto-deathהֶן־יֵשׁthere-isחֵטְאa-sinמָוֶתunto-deathעַל־זֶהof-itלֹאnotאֹמַרI-sayלִשְׁאוֹלthat-he-shall-prayבַּעֲדוֹ׃for-it

    If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17. 17

    כׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂהevery-work-ofעָוֶלunrighteousnessחֵטְאsinהִיאisוְיֵשׁand-there-isחַטָּאתa-sinאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵינֶנָּהּis-notלַמָּוֶת׃unto-death

    All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.

18. 18

    יָדַעְנוּwe-knowכִּיthatכׇל־הַנּוֹלָדwhosoever-is-bornמֵאֵתofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodלֹאnotיֶחֱטָאsinnethכִּיbutאֲשֶׁרhe-thatיֻלַּדis-begottenמֵאֵתofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodיִשְׁמֹרkeepethאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹhimselfוְהָרַעand-that-wicked-oneלֹא־יִגַּעtoucheth-notבּוֹ׃him

    We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

19. 19

    יָדַעְנוּwe-knowכִּיthatמֵאֱלֹהִיםof-Godאֲנָחְנוּwe-areוְכׇל־הָעוֹלָםand-the-whole-worldבְּרָעin-wickednessהוּא׃lieth

    And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20. 20

    וְיָדַעְנוּand-we-knowכִּיthatבָאis-comeבֶּן־אֱלֹהִיםthe-Son-of-Godוַיִּתֶּן־לָנוּand-hath-given-usבִינָהan-understandingלָדַעַתthat-we-may-knowאֶת־הָאֲמִתִּיhim-that-is-trueוּבָאֲמִתִּיand-in-him-that-is-trueאֲנַחְנוּwe-areבִּבְנוֹin-his-SonיֵשׁוּעַJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahזֶהthisהוּאisהָאֵלthe-Godהָאֲמִתִּיtrueוְחַיֵּיand-the-life-ofהָעוֹלָמִים׃eternity

    And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21. 21

    בָּנַיlittle-childrenהִשָּׁמְרוּkeepלָכֶםyourselvesמִן־הָאֱלִילִיםfrom-idolsאָמֵן׃amen

    Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
