   Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

   Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

   And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

   אַתֶּםat/TEMyouמֵאֱלֹהִיםme/e/lo/HIMfrom Godאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areבָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenוּכְבַשְׁתֶּםu/khe/vash/TEMand you have overcomeאֹתָםo/TAMthemכִּיkibecauseגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreaterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthe one whoבָּכֶםba/KHEMis in youמֵאֲשֶׁרme/a/SHERthan the one whoבָּעוֹלָם׃ba/o/LAMis in the world

   Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

   הֵמָּהHEM/mathey areמִן־הָעוֹלָםmin-ha/o/LAMfrom the worldעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeמֵהָעוֹלָםme/ha/o/LAMfrom the worldיְדַבֵּרוּye/dab/BE/ruthey speakוְהָעוֹלָםve/ha/o/LAMand the worldיִשְׁמַעyish/MAlistensאֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMto them

   They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

   We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

   Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

   וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoeverאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nudoes notאֹהֵבo/HEVloveלֹאlodoes notיָדַעya/DAknowאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodכִּיkiforהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהוּאhuisאַהֲבָה׃a/ha/VAlove

   He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

   בְּזֹאתbe/ZOTin thisנִגְלְתָהnig/le/TAwas revealedאַהֲבַתa/ha/VATthe love ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usכִּיkithatשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֶת־בְּנוֹet-Be/NOHis Sonאֶת־יְחִידוֹet-ye/chi/DOHis only oneלָעוֹלָםla/o/LAMinto the worldלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatנִחְיֶהnich/YEwe might liveעַל־יָדוֹ׃al-ya/DOthrough him

   In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

    בְּזֹאתbe/ZOThereinהָאַהֲבָהha/a/ha/VAloveלֹאlonotכִּיkithatאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweאָהַבְנוּa/hav/NUlovedאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodכִּיkibutאִםimratherכִּי־הוּאki-huthat heאָהַבa/HAVlovedאֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאֶת־בְּנוֹet-Be/NOHis Sonלְכַפֹּרֶתle/khap/PO/retas a mercy seatעַל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּ׃al-chat/to/TE/nufor our sins

    Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

    יְדִידַיye/di/DAYmy belovedאִם־כָּכָהim-KA/khaif soאָהַבa/HAVlovedאֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuit is on usגַּם־אֲנַחְנוּgam-a/NACH/nuwe alsoלְאַהֲבָהle/a/ha/VAto loveאִישׁisha manאֶת־אָחִיו׃et-a/CHIVhis brother

    Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12. 12

    אֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodלֹא־רָאָהlo-ra/Ahas not seenאִישׁisha manמֵעוֹלָםme/o/LAMeverאִם־נֶאֱהַבim-ne/e/HAVif we loveאִישׁisha manאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodשֹׁכֵןsho/KHENdwellsבָּנוּBA/nuin usוְאַהֲבָתוֹve/a/ha/va/TOand His loveנִשְׁלְמָה־בָּנוּ׃nish/le/MA-BA/nuis made complete in us

    No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

13. 13

    בְּזֹאתbe/ZOTby thisנֵדַעne/DAwe knowכִּי־בוֹki-vothat in himנִשְׁכֹּןnish/KONwe dwellוְהוּאve/HUand HeבָנוּVA/nuin usכִּי־נָתַןki-na/TANfor He has givenלָנוּLA/nuusמֵרוּחוֹ׃me/Ru/CHOof His Spirit

    Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

14. 14

    וַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand weרָאִינוּra/I/nuhave seenוּמְעִידִיםu/me/i/DIMand testifyכִּיkithatהָאָבha/AVthe Fatherשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentאֶת־הַבֵּןet-Hab/BENthe Sonלְמוֹשִׁיעַle/Mo/SHI/aas Savior ofהָעוֹלָם׃ha/o/LAMthe world

    And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15. 15

    כׇּל־הַמּוֹדֶהkol-ham/mo/DEeveryone who confessesכִּיkithatיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהוּאhuisבֶן־הָאֱלֹהִיםven-Ha/e/lo/HIMthe Son of Godהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodשֹׁכֵןsho/KHENdwellsבּוֹboin himוְהוּאve/HUand heבֵּאלֹהִים׃be/lo/HIMin God

    Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

16. 16

    וַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand weיָדַעְנוּya/DA/nuhave knownוַנַּאֲמֵןvan/na/a/MENand believedבָּאַהֲבָהba/a/ha/VAin the loveאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMof Godאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuto usהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאַהֲבָהa/ha/VAloveהוּאhuisוְהַשֹּׁכֵןve/hash/sho/KHENand the one who dwellsבָּאַהֲבָהba/a/ha/VAin loveשֹׁכֵןsho/KHENdwellsבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMin Godוֵאלֹהִיםve/lo/HIMand Godבּוֹ׃boin him

    And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

17. 17

    בְּזֹאתbe/ZOThereinנִשְׁלְמָהnish/le/MAis made completeאַהֲבָתֵנוּa/ha/va/te/NUour loveלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִהְיֶהyih/YEmay beלָנוּLA/nuto usבֶּטַחBE/tachconfidenceבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofהַדִּיןhad/DINjudgmentכִּיkiforכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהוּאhuhe isכֵּןkensoאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuare weבָּעוֹלָםba/o/LAMin the worldהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18. 18

    אֵיןenthere is noיִרְאָהyir/Afearבָּאַהֲבָהba/a/ha/VAin loveכִּיkibutאִם־אַהֲבָהim-a/ha/VArather loveשְׁלֵמָהshe/le/MAperfectמְגָרֶשֶׁתme/ga/RE/shetcasts outאֶת־הַיִּרְאָהet-hay/yir/Athe fearכִּיkiforיֵשׁyeshthere isבַּיִּרְאָהbay/yir/Ain fearמַעֲצֵבָהma/a/tse/VAtormentוְהַיָּרֵאve/hay/ya/REand the one who fearsאֵינֶנּוּe/NEN/nuis notשָׁלֵםsha/LEMcompleteבָּאַהֲבָה׃ba/a/ha/VAin love

    There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

19. 19

    אֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweאֹהֲבִיםo/ha/VIMloveאֹתוֹo/TOHimכִּיkiforהוּאhuHeקִדֵּםkid/DEMwas firstלְאַהֲבָהle/a/ha/VAto loveאֹתָנוּ׃o/TA/nuus

    We love him, because he first loved us.

20. 20

    כִּי־יֹאמַרki-yo/MARif saysאִישׁisha manאֹהֵבo/HEVloveאֲנִיa/NIIאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodוְהוּאve/HUand heשֹׂנֵאso/NEhatesאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherכֹּזֵבko/ZEVa liarהוּאhuhe isכִּיkiforאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoeverלֹאlodoes notיֶאֱהַבye/e/HAVloveאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomרָאָהra/Ahe has seenאֵיכָכָהe/KHA/khahowיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלֶאֱהֹבle/e/HOVloveאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomלֹאlonotרָאָהוּ׃ra/A/huhe has seen

    If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21. 21

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisהַמִּצְוָהham/mits/VAthe commandmentמֵאִתּוֹme/it/TOfrom HimלָנוּLA/nuwe haveכִּיkithatהָאֹהֵבha/o/HEVthe one who lovesאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodיֶאֱהַבye/e/HAVshould loveגַּם־אֶת־אָחִיו׃gam-et-a/CHIVhis brother also

    And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
