1. 1

   וַאֲנִיbut-Iגָּמַרְתִּיdeterminedבְלִבִּיwith-myselfלְבִלְתִּיthat...notשׁוּב־עוֹדcome-againאֲלֵיכֶםto-youבְּעַצָּבֶת׃in-heaviness

   But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.

2. 2

   כִּיbecauseאִם־אֲנִיif-Iאַעֲצִיבְכֶםmake-you-sorryמִיwhoאֵפוֹאthenיְשַׂמְּחֵנִיmaketh-me-gladבִּלְתִּיbutאִם־הַנֶּעְצָבthe-same-which-is-made-sorryעַל־יָדִי׃by-me

   For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?

   וְזֹאתand-thisכָּתַבְתִּיI-wroteלָכֶםunto-youפֶּן־אָבֹאlest-when-I-cameוְהָיָה־לִיI-should-haveעֶצֶבsorrowמֵאֹתָםfrom-themאֲשֶׁרof-whomהָיָה־לִיI-oughtלִשְׂמֹחַto-rejoiceעֲלֵיהֶםin-themוּבֹטֵחַhaving-confidenceאֲנִיIבְּכֻלְּכֶםin-you-allשֶׁשִּׂמְחָתִיthat-my-joyהִיאisשִׂמְחַתthe-joy-ofכֻּלְּכֶם׃you-all

   And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.

   כִּיbecauseמֵרֹבout-of-muchצָרָהafflictionוּמְצוּקַתand-anguish-ofלִבִּיheartכָּתַבְתִּיI-wroteלָכֶםunto-youוּבִדְמָעוֹתand-with-tearsהַרְבֵּהmanyוְלֹאnotלְהַעֲצִיבְכֶםthat-you-should-be-grievedרַקbutלְמַעַןthatתֵּדְעוּyou-might-knowהָאַהֲבָהthe-loveהַיְתֵרָהmore-abundantאֲשֶׁרwhichאָהַבְתִּיI-haveאֶתְכֶם׃unto-you

   For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

   וְאִם־הֶעֱצִיבbut-if-have-caused-griefאִישׁanyלֹא־אֹתִיnot-meהֶעֱצִיבhe-hath-grievedאֶלָּאbutכֻלְּכֶםyou-allוְשֶׁלּא־אַפְרִיזthat-I-overcharge-notעַל־הַמִּדָּהover-measureאֹמַרI-sayמִקְצָתְכֶם׃in-part

   But if any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not overcharge you all.

6. 6

   וְדַיּוֹsufficientלְאֹתוֹto-suchהָאִישׁa-manהַתּוֹכֵחָהthe-punishmentהַהִיאthisמִפִּיofהָרַבִּים׃many

   Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

7. 7

   וּבְכֵןso-thatלְהֶפֶךְcontrariwiseתִּסְלְחוּyou-ought-to-forgiveוּתְנַחֲמוּand-comfortכְּדֵיso-thatשֶׁלּאnotיְבֻלַּעshould-be-swallowed-upהָאִישׁthe-manבְּעִצְּבוֹנוֹwith-overmuch-sorrowכִּיforרַבgreatהוּא׃it-is

   So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

8. 8

   עַל־כֵּןthereforeאֲבַקְשָׁהI-beseechמִכֶּםyouשֶׁתִּתְיָעֲצוּthat-you-would-confirmלְהַרְאוֹתוֹto-show-himאַהֲבָה׃love

   Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

9. 9

   כִּיbecauseלָזֹאתto-this-endכָּתַבְתִּיdid-I-writeלְמַעַןthatאֵדַעI-might-knowאֶת־תֻּמַּתְכֶםthe-proof-of-youאִם־בַּכֹּלwhether-in-all-thingsתִּשְׁמָעוּן׃you-be-obedient

   For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

10. 10

    וְאִישׁand-to-whomאֲשֶׁרwhateverתִּסְלְחוּyou-forgiveלוֹhimאֶסְלַח־לוֹI-forgive-himגַּם־אָנִיalsoכִּיforגַםalsoאִם־אָנֹכִיif-IסָלַחְתִּיforgaveלָאִישׁanythingסָלַחְתִּיI-forgave-itלוֹhimלְמַעַנְכֶםfor-your-sakesלִפְנֵיin-the-presence-ofהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃the-Messiah

    To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;

11. 11

    פֶּן־יוֹנֶהlest-get-advantage-ofאֹתָנוּusהַשָּׂטָןSatanכִּיforלֹא־נֶעֶלְמוּare-not-hiddenמֵאִתָּנוּfrom-usמְזִמּוֹתָיו׃his-devices

    Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

12. 12

    וַאֲנִיfurthermore-Iבְּבֹאִיwhen-I-cameלִטְרוֹאַסto-Troasלְבַשֵּׂרto-preachבְּשׂוֹרַתthe-gospel-ofהַמָּשִׁיחַthe-Messiahאַףandכִּי־נִפְתַּח־לִיwhen-was-opened-to-meפֶתַחa-doorבַּאֲדֹנֵינוּ׃of-our-Lord

    Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,

    לֹא־הָיְתָהthere-was-noרְוָחָהrestלְרוּחִיto-my-spiritכִּיbecauseלֹא־מָצָאתִיI-found-notשָׁםthereאֶת־טִיטוֹסTitusאָחִיmy-brotherוְנִפְטַרְתִּיbut-taking-leaveמֵהֶםof-themוְיָצָאתִיI-wentלָלֶכֶתto-goאֶל־מַקְדֹּנְיָא׃into-Macedonia

    I had no rest in my spirit, because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.

14. 14

    אֲבָלnowתּוֹדוֹתthanks-beלֵאלֹהִיםunto-Godהַנֹּתֵןwhich-causethלָנוּusתְּשׁוּעָהto-triumphבַמָּשִׁיחַin-the-Messiahבְּכׇל־עֵתalwaysוּמֵפִיץand-maketh-manifestעַל־יָדֵינוּby-usאֶת־רֵיחַthe-savor-ofדַּעְתּוֹhis-knowledgeבְּכׇל־מָקוֹם׃in-every-place

    Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

15. 15

    כִּי־רֵיחַfor-the-savorנִיחֹחַsweetשֶׁל־הַמָּשִׁיחַof-the-Messiahאֲנַחְנוּwe-areלֵאלֹהִיםunto-Godבְּתוֹךְinהַנּוֹשָׁעִיםthem-that-are-savedוּבְתוֹךְand-inהָאֹבְדִים׃them-that-perish

    For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16. 16

    לָאֵלֶּהto-the-oneרֵיחַthe-savor-ofמָוֶתdeathלַמָּוֶתunto-deathוְלָאֵלֶּהand-to-the-otherרֵיחַthe-savor-ofחַיִּיםlifeלַחַיִּיםunto-lifeוּמִי־זֶהand-whoרָאוּיis-sufficientלְכָךְ׃for-these-things

    To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

17. 17

    כִּיbecauseאֵיןnotמִדָּתֵנוּour-manner-isכְּמִדַּתas-the-manner-ofהָרַבִּיםthe-manyהָעֹשִׂיםwhich-makeדְּבַרthe-word-ofהָאֱלֹהִיםGodסְחוֹרָהmerchandiseכִּיbutאִם־מִתּוֹךְas-out-ofישֶׁרthe-sincerity-ofהַלֵּבthe-heartוּמֵאֱלֹהִיםand-as-of-Godלִפְנֵיin-the-sight-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodנְדַבֵּרspeak-weבַּמָּשִׁיחַ׃in-the-Messiah

    For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
