   אֱמֶתe/METtrueהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARis the wordאִישׁisha manכִּי־יִתְאַוֶּהki-yit/av/VEif desiresלִפְקֻדָּהlif/kud/DAfor oversightלְמַעֲשֶׂהle/ma/a/SEa workטוֹבtovgoodמִתְאַוֶּה׃mit/av/VEhe desires

   This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2. 2

   עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeעַל־הַפָּקִידal-hap/pa/KIDon the overseerלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTbeנָקִיna/KIinnocentבַּעַל־אִשָּׁהBA/al-ish/SHAthe husband of a wifeאַחַתa/CHAToneשֹׁקֵדsho/KEDwatchfulנָבוֹןna/VONprudentטוֹבtovgoodטַעַםTA/amdiscretionפֹּתֵחַpo/TE/achopeningדַּלְתּוֹdal/TOhis doorלָאֹרֵחַla/o/RE/achto the guestוּמֵבִיןu/me/VINand skilledלְלַמֵּד׃le/lam/MEDto teach

   A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

   לֹאlonotסֹבֵאso/VEa drunkardיַיִןYA/yinwineלֹאlonoבַעַלVA/almaster ofאֶגְרֹףeg/ROFthe fistלֹאlonotבֹצֵעַvo/TSE/agreedy forבֶּצַעBE/tsagainרָעraevilכִּיkibutאִם־אֶרֶךְim-E/rekhrather patientרוּחַRU/achspiritלֹאlonotאִישׁisha man ofמְדָנִיםme/da/NIMstrifeוְלֹאve/LOand notאֹהֵבo/HEVa lover ofכָּסֶף׃KA/sefmoney

   Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

   מֹשֵׁלmo/SHELrulingבְּבֵיתוֹbe/ve/TOin his houseהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellוּבָנָיוu/va/NAYVand his childrenנִכְנָעִיםnikh/na/IMsubmissiveלוֹloto himבְּכׇל־כָּבוֹד׃be/KHOL-ka/VODwith all honor

   One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

   כִּיkiforאִם־לֹאim-loif notיֵדַעye/DAknowאִישׁisha manלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLto ruleבְּבֵיתוֹbe/ve/TOin his houseאֵיכָכָהe/KHA/khahowיוּכַלyu/KHALcan heלְהַשְׁגִּיחַle/hash/GI/achtake careעַל־קְהִלַּתal-ke/hil/LATover the church ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

   (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6. 6

   לֹאlonotתַּלְמִידtal/MIDa discipleחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewפֶּן־יָרוּםpen-ya/RUMlest be lifted upלִבּוֹlib/BOhis heartוְנָפַלve/na/FALand he fallבְּדִיןbe/DINinto the judgment ofהַשָּׂטָן׃Has/sa/TANSatan

   Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7. 7

   וְגַםve/GAMand alsoעָלָיוa/LAYVon himלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beלוֹloto himשֵׁםshema nameטוֹבtovgoodבְּפִיbe/FIin the mouth ofאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthose who areבַּחוּץba/CHUTSoutsideפֶּן־יִפֹּלpen-yip/POLlest he fallבְּחֶרְפָּהbe/cher/PAinto reproachוּבְמוֹקֵשׁu/ve/mo/KESHand the snare ofהַשָּׂטָן׃Has/sa/TANSatan

   Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8. 8

   וְכֵןve/KHENand soהַשַּׁמָּשִׁיםhash/sham/ma/SHIMthe deaconsיִהְיוּyih/YUmust beנִכְבָּדִיםnikh/ba/DIMhonoredלֹאlonotמַחֲלִיקֵיma/cha/li/KEsmooth ofלָשׁוֹןla/SHONtongueלֹאlonotסֹבְאֵיsov/Egiven toיַיִןYA/yinwineלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceלֹאlonotבֹצְעֵיvots/Egreedy ofבֶּצַעBE/tsagainרָע׃raevil

   Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

   אֹחֲזִיםo/cha/ZIMholdingבְּסוֹדbe/SODin the secret ofהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAthe faithבְּלֵבbe/LEVwith a heartטָהוֹר׃ta/HORpure

   Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10. 10

    וְגַם־אֵלֶּהve/GAM-EL/leand these alsoיִבָּחֲנוּyib/ba/cha/NUlet be testedבָרִאשֹׁנָהva/ri/sho/NAfirstוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןve/a/cha/RE-khenand afterwardיְשָׁרְתוּye/sha/re/TUlet them serveבְּהִמָּצְאָםbe/him/ma/tse/AMwhen they are foundנְקִיִּם׃ne/kiy/YIMclean

    And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

11. 11

    וְכֵןve/KHENand soנְשֵׁיהֶםne/she/HEMtheir wivesתִּהְיֶינָהtih/YE/namust beנִכְבָּדוֹתnikh/ba/DOThonorableלֹאlonotמַלְשִׁינוֹתmal/shi/NOTslanderersנְבוֹנוֹתne/vo/NOTprudentוְנֶאֱמָנוֹתve/ne/e/ma/NOTand faithfulבַּכֹּל׃bak/KOLin all

    Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

12. 12

    הַשַּׁמָּשִׁיםhash/sham/ma/SHIMthe deaconsיִהְיוּyih/YUmust beכׇל־אֶחָדkhol-e/CHADeach oneבַּעַל־אִשָּׁהBA/al-ish/SHAthe husband of a wifeאַחַתa/CHAToneמֹשְׁלִיםmosh/LIMrulingהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellבִּבְנֵיהֶםbiv/ne/HEMtheir childrenוּבְבָתֵּיהֶם׃u/ve/vat/te/HEMand in their houses

    Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13. 13

    כִּיkiforהַמְשָׁרְתִיםham/sha/re/TIMthose who serveהֵיטֵבhe/TEVwellיִקְנוּyik/NUacquireלָהֶםla/HEMto themselvesמַעֲלָהma/a/LAa standingטוֹבָהto/VAgoodוּפִתְחוֹןu/fit/CHONand an opening ofפֶּהpemouthרָבravgreatבָּאֱמוּנָהba/e/mu/NAin the faithאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich isבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin the Messiahיֵשׁוּעַ׃Ye/SHU/aJesus

    For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

14. 14

    אֵלֶּהEL/lethese thingsאֲנִיa/NIIכֹתֵבkho/TEVwriteלְךָle/KHAto youוַאֲקַוֶּהva/a/kav/VEand I hopeלָבֹאla/VOto comeאֵלֶיךָe/LE/khato youבִּמְהֵרָה׃bim/he/RAsoon

    These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

15. 15

    וְאִם־אֶתְמַהְמַהּve/IM-et/mah/MAbut if I delayלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתֵדַעte/DAyou will knowאֵיךְekhhowעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaon youלְהִתְהַלֵּךְle/hit/hal/LEKHto walkבְּבֵיתbe/VETin the house ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהִיאhiisקְהִלַּתke/hil/LATthe church ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodחַיִּיםchay/YIMthe livingעַמּוּדam/MUDthe pillar ofהָאֱמֶתha/e/METthe truthוּמְכוֹנָהּ׃u/me/kho/NAand its foundation

    But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

16. 16

    וְאׇמְנָםve/om/NAMand indeedגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatהוּאhuisסוֹדsodthe secret ofהַחֲסִידוּתha/cha/si/DUTgodlinessהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodנִגְלָהnig/LAwas revealedבַבָּשָׂרvab/ba/SARin the fleshנִצְדַּקnits/DAKwas justifiedבָּרוּחַba/RU/achin the Spiritנִרְאָהnir/Awas seenלַמַּלְאָכִיםlam/mal/a/KHIMby angelsהֻגַּדhug/GADwas proclaimedבַּגּוֹיִםbag/Go/YIMamong the Gentilesהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nubelievedבוֹvoin himבָּעוֹלָםba/o/LAMin the worldנִלְקַחnil/KACHwas taken upבְּכָבוֹד׃be/kha/VODin glory

    And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
