   עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeהָסִירוּha/SI/ruput awayמֵעֲלֵיכֶםme/a/le/KHEMfrom youכׇּל־רָעָהkol-ra/Aall evilוְכׇל־מִרְמָהve/KHOL-mir/MAand all deceitוַחֲנֻפָּהva/cha/nup/PAand hypocrisyוְקִנְאָהve/kin/Aand jealousyוְכׇל־דִּבָּהve/KHOL-dib/BAand all slanderרָעָה׃ra/Aevil

   Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

   כְּעוֹלָלִיםke/o/la/LIMlike infantsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoמִקָּרוֹבmik/ka/ROVrecentlyנוֹלָדוּno/la/DUwere bornהִכָּסְפוּhik/ka/se/FUlongלַחֲלֵבla/cha/LEVfor the milk ofהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordהַזָּךְhaz/ZAKHpureלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּגְדְּלוּ־בוֹ׃tig/de/LU-voyou may grow by it

   As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

   אִם־אׇמְנָםim-om/NAMif indeedטְעַמְתֶּםte/am/TEMyou have tastedכִּיkithatחַנּוּןchan/NUNgraciousהָאָדוֹן׃ha/a/DONthe Lord

   If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

   אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomבְּבֹאֲכֶםbe/vo/a/KHEMwhen you comeאֵלָיוe/LAYVto himכְּאֶל־אֶבֶןke/EL-E/venas to a stoneחַיָּהchay/YAlivingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאׇמְנָםom/NAMindeedמָאֲסוּ־בָהּma/a/SU-varejected itבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםbe/NE-ha/a/DAMthe sons of menאֲבָלa/VALbutבְּחִירַתbe/chi/RATchosen ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוִיקָרָה׃vi/ka/RAand precious

   To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

   Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

   עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeגַּםgamalsoאָמַרa/MARit saysהַכָּתוּבhak/ka/TUVthe scriptureהִנְנִיhin/NIbehold Iיִסַּדyis/SADhave foundedבְּצִיּוֹןbe/Tsiy/YONin ZionאֶבֶןE/vena stoneרֹאשׁroshthe head ofפִּנָּהpin/NAa cornerבְּחִירָהbe/chi/RAchosenיְקָרָהye/ka/RApreciousוְהַמַּאֲמִיןve/ham/ma/a/MINand the one who believesבּוֹboon himלֹאlonotיֵבוֹשׁ׃ye/VOSHwill be ashamed

   Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

   Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

   וּלְאֶבֶןu/le/E/venand a stone ofנֶגֶףNE/gefstumblingוּלְצוּרu/le/TSURand a rock ofמִכְשׁוֹלmikh/SHOLstumblingלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִכָּשְׁלוּyik/ka/she/LUwill stumbleבַּדָּבָרbad/da/VARat the wordבְּהַמְרוֹתָםbe/ham/ro/TAMbeing disobedientאֲשֶׁרa/SHERto whichלָהּlato itגַּם־הוּשְׂמוּ׃gam-hus/MUalso they were appointed

   And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

   וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMbut youדּוֹרdorgenerationנִבְחָרniv/CHARchosenכְּהֻנַּתke/hun/NATa priesthood ofמַלְכוּתmal/KHUTkingdomוְגוֹיve/GOYand a nationקָדוֹשׁka/DOSHholyוְעַםve/AMand a people ofסְגֻלָּהse/gul/LAtreasureלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתְּסַפְּרוּte/sap/pe/RUyou may tellתְּהִלּוֹתte/hil/LOTthe praises ofהַקֹּרֵאhak/Ko/REthe One who calledאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמֵחֹשֶׁךְme/CHO/shekhout of darknessאֶל־אוֹרוֹel-o/ROinto His lightהַנִּפְלָא׃han/nif/LAmarvelous

   But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלְפָנִיםle/fa/NIMformerlyלֹא־עָםlo-amnot a peopleהֱיִיתֶםhe/yi/TEMyou wereוְעַתָּהve/at/TAbut nowעַםamthe people ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלְפָנִיםle/fa/NIMformerlyלֹאlonotרֻחַמְתֶּםru/cham/TEMyou were shown mercyוְעַתָּהve/at/TAbut nowרֻחַמְתֶּם׃ru/cham/TEMyou have been shown mercy

    Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

    יְדִידַיye/di/DAYmy belovedאֲבַקֵּשׁa/vak/KESHI askמִכֶּםmik/KEMyouכְּגֵרִיםke/ge/RIMas strangersוְתוֹשָׁבִיםve/to/sha/VIMand sojournersלִרְחֹקlir/CHOKto keep farמִתַּאֲוֹתmit/ta/a/VOTfrom the desires ofהַבָּשָׂרhab/ba/SARthe fleshהַנִּלְחָמוֹתhan/nil/cha/MOTwhich warבַּנָּפֶשׁ׃ban/NA/feshagainst the soul

    Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

    וִיהִיvi/HIand let beדַרְכְּכֶםdar/ke/KHEMyour wayטוֹבָהto/VAgoodבֵּיןbenamongהַגּוֹיִםhag/Go/YIMthe Gentilesלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatיְדַבְּרוּye/dab/be/RUthey speakבָכֶםva/KHEMagainst youכִּמְרֵעִיםkim/re/IMas evildoersבְּמַעֲשֵׂיכֶםbe/ma/a/se/KHEMby your worksהַטּוֹבִיםhat/to/VIMgoodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִרְאוּyir/Uthey will seeיְכַבְּדוּye/khab/be/DUthey may glorifyאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםet-ha/e/lo/HIMGodבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofפְּקֻדָּה׃pe/kud/DAvisitation

    Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

    הִכָּנְעוּhik/ka/ne/Usubmitלְכׇל־חֻקַּתle/KHOL-chuk/KATto every ordinance ofאָדָםa/DAMmanלְמַעַןle/MA/anfor the sake ofהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe Lordאִםimwhetherלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhto the kingכְּרֹאשׁ׃ke/ROSHas head

    Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

14. 14

    אוֹoorלַפַּחוֹתlap/pa/CHOTto governorsכְּאֶל־הַשְּׁלוּחִיםke/EL-hash/she/lu/CHIMas to those who are sentמֵאִתּוֹme/it/TOfrom himלַעֲנֹשׁla/a/NOSHto punishמְרֵעִיםme/re/IMevildoersוְלִתְהִלַּתve/lit/hil/LATand for the praise ofעֹשֵׂיo/SEdoers ofטוֹב׃tovgood

    Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

15. 15

    כִּיkiforכֵןkhensoרְצוֹןre/TSONis the will ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoבַּעֲשׂוֹתְכֶםba/a/sot/KHEMin your doingטוֹבtovwellתִּסְכְּרוּtis/ke/RUyou may stopאֶת־פִּיet-pithe mouth ofהָאֱוִילִיםha/e/vi/LIMthe foolishאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoאֵין־בָּםen-bamhave noדָּעַת׃DA/atknowledge

    For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

16. 16

    כַּחׇפְשִׁיםka/chof/SHIMas free menוְלֹאve/LOand notכְּשָׂמִיםke/sa/MIMas makingאֶת־דְּרוֹרְכֶםet-de/ror/KHEMyour libertyלִמְעִילlim/ILfor a cloak ofרָעָהra/Aevilכִּיkibutאִם־כְּעַבְדֵיim-ke/av/DErather as servants ofאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

17. 17

    כַּבְּדוּkab/be/DUhonorאֶת־כׇּל־אָדָםet-kol-a/DAMall menאֶהֱבוּe/he/VUloveאֶת־הָאַחֲוָהet-ha/a/cha/VAbrotherhoodיִרְאוּyir/Ufearאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםet-e/lo/HIMGodכַּבְּדוּkab/be/DUhonorאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃et-ham/ME/lekhthe king

    Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

18. 18

    הָעֲבָדִיםha/a/va/DIMslavesהִכָּנְעוּhik/ka/ne/Usubmitלַאֲדֹנֵיכֶםla/a/do/ne/KHEMto your mastersבְּכׇל־יִרְאָהbe/KHOL-yir/Ain all fearלֹאlonotלַטּוֹבִיםlat/to/VIMto those who are goodוְהָרַכִּיםve/ha/rak/KIMand gentleלְבַדle/VADonlyכִּיkibutאִםimratherגַּםgamalsoלָעִקְּשִׁים׃la/ik/ke/SHIMto the crooked

    Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

19. 19

    כִּיkiforזֶהzethisרָאוּיra/UYis fittingלְתוֹדָהle/to/DAfor thanksgivingאִםimifאִישׁisha manבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURforלִבּוֹlib/BOhis heartלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMtoward Godיִסְבֹּלyis/BOLenduresיָגוֹןya/GONsorrowוְסֹבֵלve/so/VELand suffersחִנָּם׃chin/NAMwithout cause

    For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20. 20

    כִּיkiforמַה־כָּבוֹדma-ka/VODwhat gloryהוּאhuthis isאִםimifבְּהֻכּוֹתְכֶםbe/huk/kot/KHEMwhen you are struckבָּאֶגְרֹףba/eg/ROFwith the fistעַל־חַטֹּאתֵיכֶםal-chat/to/te/KHEMfor your sinsתַּאֲרִיכוּta/a/RI/khuyou lengthenנַפְשְׁכֶםnaf/she/KHEMyour soulאֲבָלa/VALbutאִםimifבַּעֲשׂוֹתְכֶםba/a/sot/KHEMin your doingטוֹבtovwellוְסֹבְלִיםve/sov/LIMand sufferאַתֶּםat/TEMyouתַּאֲרִיכוּta/a/RI/khuyou lengthenנַפְשְׁכֶםnaf/she/KHEMyour soulזֶהzethisרָצוּיra/TSUYis acceptableלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

    כִּיkiforלָזֹאתla/ZOTto thisנִקְרֵאתֶםnik/re/TEMyou were calledכִּיkiforגַם־הַמָּשִׁיחַgam-Ham/ma/SHI/achthe Messiah alsoסָבַלsa/VALsufferedבַּעֲדֵנוּba/a/DE/nufor usוְהִשְׁאִירve/hish/IRand leftלָנוּLA/nuusמוֹפֵתmo/FETan exampleלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתֵּלְכוּtel/KHUyou may walkבְּעִקְּבוֹתָיו׃be/ik/ke/vo/TAYVin his footsteps

    For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22. 22

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹאlonoחֵטְאchetsinעָשָׂהa/SAdidוְלֹאve/LOand notנִמְצְאָהnim/tse/Awas foundמִרְמָהmir/MAdeceitבְּפִיו׃be/FIVin his mouth

    Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23. 23

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenחֵרְפוּהוּcher/fu/HUthey reviled himלֹאlonotחֵרֵףche/REFreviledכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenסָבַלsa/VALhe sufferedלֹאlonotגָעַרga/ARdid he rebukeכִּיkibutאִם־הִפְקִידim-hif/KIDrather committedאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOhimselfבְּיַדbe/YADinto the hand ofהַשֹּׁפֵטhash/Sho/FETthe One who judgesצֶדֶק׃TSE/dekrighteousness

    Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

    אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהוּאhuheנָשָׂאna/SAboreאֶת־חַטֹּאתֵינוּet-chat/to/TE/nuour sinsבִּגְוִיָּתוֹbig/viy/ya/TOin his bodyעַל־הָעֵץal-ha/ETSon the treeלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatמֵתִיםme/TIMdeadלַחֲטָאִיםla/cha/ta/IMto sinsנִחְיֶהnich/YEwe may liveלַצְּדָקָהlats/tse/da/KAto righteousnessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoseבַּחֲבֻרָתוֹba/cha/vu/ra/TOwith his stripesנִרְפָּאnir/PAhealing isלָכֶם׃la/KHEMfor you

    Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

    כִּיkiforהֱיִיתֶםhe/yi/TEMyou wereכְּצֹאןke/TSONas sheepתֹּעוֹתto/OTgoing astrayוְעַתָּהve/at/TAbut nowשַׁבְתֶּםshav/TEMyou have returnedאֶל־רֹעֵהel-Ro/Eto the Shepherdוּפְקִידu/fe/KIDand the overseer ofנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם׃naf/sho/te/KHEMyour souls

    For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
