    וְעַתָּהwhereforeהָסִירוּlaying-asideמֵאִתְּכֶםfrom-youכׇּל־רֶשַׁעall-maliceוְכׇל־מִרְמָהand-all-guileוַחֲנֻפָּהand-hypocrisiesוְקִנְאָהand-enviesוְכׇל־לָשׁוֹןand-all-evilרָע׃speakings

    Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,

    וּכְעֹלֲלִיםas-babesאֲשֶׁרwhichמִקָּרוֹבnewlyנוֹלָדוּare-bornהִתְאַוּוּdesireלֶחָלָבthe-milkהַשִׂכְלִיof-the-wordוְהַזָּךְand-pureלְמַעַןthatתִּגְדְּלוּ־בוֹyou-may-grow-therebyלַתְּשׁוּעָה׃unto-salvation

    As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

    אִם־אׇמְנָםif-trulyטְעַמְתֶּםyou-tastedכִּי־טוֹבthat-is-graciousהָאָדוֹן׃the-Lord

    If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

    אֲשֶׁרwhichנִגַּשְׁתֶּםcomingאֵלָיוto-whomאֶל־אֶבֶןunto-a-stoneחַיָּהlivingאֲשֶׁרwhichמָאֲסוּ־בָהּdisallowedבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםof-menוְהִיאbutנִבְחָרָהchosenוִיקָרָהand-preciousלֵאלֹהִים׃of-God

    To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

    וְגַם־אַתֶּםyou-alsoכַּאֲבָנִיםas-lively-stonesחַיּוֹתlivingנִבְנֵיתֶםare-built-upלְמִשְׁכַּןa-habitation-ofהָרוּחַthe-spiritלִכְהֻנַּתa-priesthood-ofקֹדֶשׁholinessלְהַעֲלוֹתto-offer-upזִבְחֵי־רוּחַspiritual-sacrificesלְרָצוֹןacceptableלֵאלֹהִיםto-Godבְּיֵשׁוּעַby-Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃the-Messiah

    Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

    וְזֶהand-thisהוּאisשֶׁאָמַרthat-saithהַכָּתוּבthe-scriptureהִנְנִיbehold-Iיִסַּדlayבְּצִיּוֹןin-Zionאֶבֶןa-stoneפִּנָּהcornerאֶבֶןa-stoneבֹּחַןtriedוִיקָרָהand-preciousוְהַמַּאֲמִיןand-he-that-believethבָּהּon-himלֹאnotיֵבוֹשׁ׃shall-be-confounded

    Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

    לָכֵןthereforeלָכֶםunto-youהַמַּאֲמִינִיםwhich-believeהִיאisאֶבֶןthe-stoneהַיְקָרpreciousאֲבָלbutלַסּוֹרֲרִיםunto-them-which-be-disobedientהָאֶבֶןthe-stoneאֲשֶׁרwhichמָאֲסוּdisallowedהַבּוֹנִיםthe-buildersהָיְתָהis-madeלְרֹאשׁthe-head-ofפִּנָּהthe-cornerוּלְאֶבֶןand-a-stone-ofנֶגֶףstumblingוּלְצוּרand-a-rock-ofמִכְשֹׁל׃offense

    Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

    וְהֵםwhichנִכְשְׁלוּstumbleיַעַןbeingלֹאnotשָׁמְעוּobedientלַדָּבָרto-the-wordוְלָזֹאתwhereuntoגַּם־נוֹעָדוּ׃also-they-were-appointed

    And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

    וְאַתֶּםbut-youהִנְּכֶםareזֶרַעa-generationנִבְחָרchosenמַמְלֶכֶתa-royalכֹּהֲנִיםpriesthoodוְגוֹיand-a-nationקָדוֹשׁholyוְעַםa-peopleסְגֻלָּהpeculiarלְמַעַןthatתְּסַפְּרוּyou-should-shew-forthתְּהִלּוֹתthe-praises-ofהַקּוֹרֵאof-him-who-hath-calledאֶתְכֶםyouמֵחֹשֶׁךְout-of-darknessאֶל־אוֹרוֹinto-his-lightהַנִּפְלָא׃marvelous

    But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

    אֲשֶׁרwhichלְפָנִיםin-time-pastלֹא־עָםnot-a-peopleהֱיִיתֶםyou-wereוְעַתָּהbut-nowעַםthe-people-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוַאֲשֶׁרwhichלְפָנִיםin-time-pastלֹאnotרֻחָמוּobtained-mercyוְעַתָּהbut-nowמְרֻחָמִים׃have-obtained-mercy

    Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

    חֲבִיבַיdearly-belovedאַזְהִירְכֶםI-beseech-youכְּגֵרִיםas-strangersוְתוֹשָׁבִיםand-pilgrimsהִנָּזְרוּabstainמִתַּאֲוֹתfrom-lusts-ofהַבָּשָׂרthe-fleshהַמִּתְגָּרוֹתwhich-warבַּנָּפֶשׁ׃against-the-soul

    Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

  12. 12

    וְהֵיטִיבוּand-make-honestדַרְכְּכֶםyour-conversationבַּגּוֹיִםamong-the-Gentilesלְמַעַןthatיַבִּיטוּthey-may-beholdאֶל־מַעֲשֵׂיכֶםyour-worksהַטּוֹבִיםgoodוִיכַבְּדוּand-glorifyאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּיוֹםin-the-day-ofהַפְּקֻדָּהvisitationתַּחַתwhereasאֲשֶׁרwhichחֵרְפוּthey-speak-againstאֶתְכֶםyouכְּפֹעֲלֵיas-doers-ofאָוֶן׃evil

    Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

    וְהִכָּנְעוּsubmit-yourselvesלְכׇל־פְּקֻדַּתto-every-ordinance-ofאָדָםmanלְמַעַןfor-the-sake-ofהָאָדוֹןthe-Lordאִם־לַמֶּלֶךְwhether-to-the-kingכָּרָאוּיasלָרֹאשׁ׃supreme

    Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;

  14. 14

    אִם־לַמֹּשְׁלִיםor-to-governorsכָּרָאוּיasלַשְּׁלוּחִיםthem-that-are-sentמֵאִתּוֹby-himלְנִקְמַתfor-the-punishment-ofפֹּעֲלֵיdoers-ofאָוֶןevilוְלִתְהִלַּתand-for-the-praise-ofעֹשֵׂיthem-that-doטוֹב׃well

    Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.

  15. 15

    כִּיbecauseכֵןsoרְצוֹןis-the-will-ofאֱלֹהִיםGodשֶׁתַּעֲשׂוּthat-you-doהַטּוֹבwellוְתִסְכְּרוּand-you-may-put-to-silenceאֶת־פִּיthe-mouth-ofאִוֶּלֶתthe-foolishness-ofהָאֲנָשִׁיםmenאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵין־בָּםhave-noדָּעַת׃knowledge

    For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

  16. 16

    כַּחׇפְשִׁיםas-the-freeוְלֹא־כְאִלּוּand-not-usingהָיְתָהhavingלָכֶםyourהַחֻפְשָׁהlibertyלְמִכְסֵהfor-a-cloke-ofהָרָעָהmaliciousnessכִּיbutאִם־כְּעַבְדֵיas-servants-ofאֱלֹהִים׃God

    As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

  17. 17

    נַהֲגוּgiveכָבוֹדhonorבְּכׇל־אִישׁto-all-menאֶהֱבוּloveאֵת־הָאַחִיםthe-brotherhoodיִרְאוּfearאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםGodכַּבְּדוּhonorאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְ׃the-king

    Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

  18. 18

    הָעֲבָדִיםservantsהִכָּנְעוּbe-subjectלִפְנֵיtoאֲדֹנֵיכֶםyour-mastersבְּכׇל־יִרְאָהin-all-fearלֹאnotלִפְנֵיtoהַטּוֹבִיםthe-goodוְהָעֲנָוִיםand-gentleבִּלְבַדonlyכִּיbutאִםalsoגַּם־לִפְנֵיtoהָעִקְּשִׁים׃the-froward

    Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

  19. 19

    כִּיbecauseחֶסֶדthankworthyהוּאthis-isלָאִישׁto-a-manכִּי־יִשְׂבַּעif-he-endureמַמְּרֹרִיםgriefוִיעֻנֶּהsufferingחִנָּםwrongfullyלְמַעַןforדַּעַתconscience-towardהָאֱלֹהִים׃God

    For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

  20. 20

    כִּיbecauseאִם־תֶּחֶטְאוּif-you-sinוּסְבַלְתֶּםand-you-endureמַכּוֹתblows-ofאֶגְרוֹףthe-fistמַה־תִּתְהַלָּלוּwhat-glory-is-itאֲבָלbutאִם־תְּעֻנּוּif-you-sufferוּסְבַלְתֶּםand-endureבַּעֲשׂוֹתְכֶםwhen-you-doהַטּוֹבwellחֶסֶדacceptableהוּאthis-isמִלִּפְנֵיwithאֱלֹהִים׃God

    For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

  21. 21

    כִּיbecauseלָזֹאתhereuntoנִקְרֵאתֶםwere-you-calledכִּיbecauseגַם־הַמָּשִׁיחַalso-the-Messiahעֻנָּהsufferedבַּעֲדֵנוּfor-usוְהִשְׁאִירleavingלָכֶםusמוֹפֵתan-exampleלָלֶכֶתto-followבְּעִקְּבוֹתָיו׃his-steps

    For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

    אֲשֶׁרwhoלֹאnoחֵטְאsinעָשָׂהdidוְלֹאneitherנִמְצְאָהwas-foundמִרְמָהguileבְּפִיו׃in-his-mouth

    Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

  23. 23

    אֲשֶׁרwhoשָׁמַעwhen-he-was-reviledחֶרְפָּתוֹhis-reproachוְלֹאand-notהֵשִׁיבreviled-againנַעֲנָהwhen-he-sufferedוְלֹאand-notגָעַרthreatenedכִּיbutאִם־מָסַרcommittedדִּינוֹhis-causeלַשֹּׁפֵטto-him-that-judgethצֶדֶק׃righteously

    Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

  24. 24

    וְאֶת־חַטֹּאתֵנוּwho-our-sinsהוּאhe-his-own-selfנָשָׂאbareבִּגְוִיָּתוֹin-his-own-bodyעַל־הָעֵץon-the-treeלְמַעַןthatנִחְיֶהwe-should-liveלַצְּדָקָהunto-righteousnessאַחֲרֵיbeingחָדַלְנוּdeadמִן־הַחֲטָאִיםto-sinsאֲשֶׁרby-whoseבַּחֲבֻרָתוֹstripesנִרְפָּאwere-healedלָכֶם׃you

    Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

  25. 25

    כִּיforהֱיִיתֶםyou-wereכְּצֹאןas-sheepאֹבְדוֹתgoing-astrayוְעַתָּהbut-nowשַׁבְתֶּםyou-are-returnedאֶל־הָרֹעֶהunto-the-Shepherdפְּקִידand-Bishop-ofנַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶם׃your-souls

    For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
