   My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

   וְהוּאve/HUand he isכַפֹּרֶתkhap/PO/reta mercy seatעַל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּal-chat/to/TE/nufor our sinsוְלֹאve/LOand notעַל־חַטֹּאתֵינוּal-chat/to/TE/nufor our sinsלְבַדle/VADonlyכִּיkibutאִם־גַּםim-gamrather alsoעַל־חַטֹּאתal-chat/TOTfor the sins ofכׇּל־הָעוֹלָם׃kol-ha/o/LAMthe whole world

   And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

   וּבְזֹאתu/ve/ZOTand by thisנֵדַעne/DAwe knowכִּיkithatיְדַעֲנוּהוּye/da/a/nu/HUwe know himאִם־נִשְׁמֹרim-nish/MORif we keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיו׃et-mits/vo/TAYVhis commandments

   And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4. 4

   הָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthe one who saysיְדַעְתִּיוye/da/TIVI know himוְאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיוve/ET-mits/vo/TAYVand his commandmentsלֹאlodoes notיִשְׁמֹרyish/MORkeepכֹּזֵבko/ZEVa liarהוּאhuhe isוְהָאֱמֶתve/ha/e/METand the truthאֵיןenis notבּוֹ׃boin him

   He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

   אֲבָלa/VALbutהַשֹּׁמֵרhash/sho/MERthe one who keepsאֶת־דְּבָרוֹet-de/va/ROhis wordבּוֹboin himאׇמְנָםom/NAMtrulyנִשְׁלְמָהnish/le/MAis made completeאַהֲבַתa/ha/VATthe love ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodבְּזֹאתbe/ZOTby thisנֵדַעne/DAwe knowכִּי־בוֹki-vothat in himאֲנָחְנוּ׃a/NACH/nuwe are

   But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

   הָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthe one who saysכִּיkithatעֹמֵדo/MEDremainsהוּאhuheבוֹvoin himעָלָיוa/LAYVit is on himגַּם־הוּאgam-huhe alsoלְהִתְהַלֵּךְle/hit/hal/LEKHto walkכֵּןkensoכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהִתְהַלֵּךְhit/hal/LEKHwalkedהוּא׃huhe

   He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

   Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

   וְעוֹדve/ODand againמִצְוָהmits/VAa commandmentחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewאֲנִיa/NIIכֹתֵבkho/TEVwriteלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהִיאhiitאֱמֶתe/METis trueבּוֹboin himוּבָכֶםu/va/KHEMand in youכִּיkibecauseהַחֹשֶׁךְha/CHO/shekhthe darknessעָבַרa/VARpassesוְהָאוֹרve/ha/ORand the lightהָאֲמִתִּיha/a/mit/TItrueעַתָּהat/TAnowזֹרֵחַ׃zo/RE/achshines

   Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

   הָאֹמֵרha/o/MERthe one who saysבָּאוֹרba/ORin the lightאָנִיA/niI amוְהוּאve/HUand heשֹׂנֵאso/NEhatesאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherבַּחֹשֶׁךְba/CHO/shekhin darknessהוּאhuisעַד־עָתָּה׃ad-AT/tauntil now

   He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

10. 10

    הָאֹהֵבha/o/HEVthe one who lovesאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherעֹמֵדo/MEDremainsבָּאוֹרba/ORin the lightוּמִכְשׁוֹלu/mikh/SHOLand a stumbling blockאֵיןenthere is notבּוֹ׃boin him

    He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

11. 11

    וְהַשֹּׂנֵאve/has/so/NEand the one who hatesאֶת־אָחִיוet-a/CHIVhis brotherבַּחֹשֶׁךְba/CHO/shekhin darknessהוּאhuisוּבַחֹשֶׁךְu/va/CHO/shekhand in darknessיִתְהַלֵּךְyit/hal/LEKHwalksוְלֹאve/LOand does notיֵדַעye/DAknowאָנָהA/nawhereהוּאhuheהֹלֵךְho/LEKHgoesכִּיkiforהַחֹשֶׁךְha/CHO/shekhthe darknessעִוֵּרiv/VERhas blindedאֶת־עֵינָיו׃et-e/NAYVhis eyes

    But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

12. 12

    כֹּתֵבko/TEVwriteאֲנִיa/NIIאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youבָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenכִּיkibecauseנִסְלְחוּnis/le/CHUare forgivenלָכֶםla/KHEMyouחַטֹּאתֵיכֶםchat/to/te/KHEMyour sinsלְמַעַןle/MA/anfor the sake ofשְׁמוֹ׃she/MOhis name

    I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.

    כֹּתֵבko/TEVwriteאֲנִיa/NIIאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youהָאָבוֹתha/a/VOTfathersכִּיkithatיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou have knownאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthe one whoמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningכֹּתֵבko/TEVwriteאֲנִיa/NIIאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youהַבַּחוּרִיםhab/ba/chu/RIMyoung menכִּיkithatכְּבַשְׁתֶּםke/vash/TEMyou have overcomeאֶת־הָרָעet-ha/RAthe evil oneכֹּתֵבko/TEVwriteאֲנִיa/NIIאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youבָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenכִּיkithatיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou have knownאֶת־הָאָב׃et-Ha/AVthe Father

    I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.

14. 14

    כָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI have writtenאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youהָאָבוֹתha/a/VOTfathersכִּיkithatיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou have knownאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthe one whoמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningכָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI have writtenאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youהַבַּחוּרִיםhab/ba/chu/RIMyoung menכִּיkibecauseחֲזָקִיםcha/za/KIMstrongאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areוּדְבַרu/de/VARand the word ofהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodעֹמֵדo/MEDremainsבָּכֶםba/KHEMin youוּכְבַשְׁתֶּםu/khe/vash/TEMand you have overcomeאֶת־הָרָע׃et-ha/RAthe evil one

    I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.

15. 15

    אַל־תֶּאֱהָבוּal-te/e/HA/vudo not loveאֶת־הָעוֹלָםet-ha/o/LAMthe worldוְלֹאve/LOand notאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERwhatבָּעוֹלָםba/o/LAMin the worldאִישׁisha manכִּי־יֶאֱהַבki-ye/e/HAVif he lovesאֶת־הָעוֹלָםet-ha/o/LAMthe worldאֵין־בּוֹen-bois not in himאַהֲבַתa/ha/VATthe love ofהָאָב׃ha/AVthe Father

    Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16. 16

    כִּיkiforכֹּלkolallאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבָּעוֹלָםba/o/LAMin the worldתַּאֲוַתta/a/VATthe desire ofהַבָּשָׂרhab/ba/SARthe fleshוְתַאֲוַתve/ta/a/VATand the desire ofהָעֵינַיִםha/e/NA/yimthe eyesוּגְאוֹןu/ge/ONand the pride ofהַחַיִּיםha/chay/YIMlifeלֹאlonotמִן־הָאָבmin-Ha/AVfrom the Fatherהוּאhuisכִּיkibutאִםimratherמִן־הָעוֹלָם׃min-ha/o/LAMfrom the world

    For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17. 17

    וְהָעוֹלָםve/ha/o/LAMand the worldעֹבֵרo/VERpasses awayוְתַאֲוָתוֹve/ta/a/va/TOand its desireוְהָעֹשֶׂהve/ha/o/SEand the one who doesרְצוֹןre/TSONthe will ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODremainsלְעוֹלָם׃le/o/LAMfor ever

    And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

18. 18

    בָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenהָעֵתha/ETthe timeהָאַחֲרוֹנָהha/a/cha/ro/NAlastהִיאhiit isוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMyou have heardכִּיkithatיָבוֹאya/VOwill comeאוֹיֵבo/YEVthe enemy ofהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahגַּם־עַתָּהgam-at/TAeven nowהָיוּha/YUthere have beenאוֹיְבֵיoy/VEthe enemies ofהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוּבְזֹאתu/ve/ZOTand by thisנֵדַעne/DAwe knowכִּיkithatהָעֵתha/ETthe timeהָאַחֲרוֹנָהha/a/cha/ro/NAlastהִיא׃hiit is

    Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

19. 19

    מִקִּרְבֵּנוּmik/kir/be/NUfrom among usיָצְאוּya/tse/Uthey went outאֲבָלa/VALbutלֹא־מֵאִתָּנוּlo-me/it/ta/NUnot of usהָיוּha/YUthey wereכִּיkiforלוּluifהָיוּha/YUthey had beenמֵאִתָּנוּme/it/TA/nuof usכִּיkisurelyאָזazthenהָיוּha/YUthey would haveעֹמְדִיםom/DIMremainedעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuwith usאַךְakhbutיָצְאוּya/tse/Uthey went outלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיִגָּלֶהyig/ga/LEit might be revealedכִּיkithatלֹאlonotכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themמֵאִתָּנוּme/it/TA/nuof usהֵמָּה׃HEM/maare they

    They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

20. 20

    וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youיֶשׁ־לָכֶםyesh-la/KHEMhaveמִשְׁחָהmish/CHAan anointingמֵאֵתme/ETfromהַקָּדוֹשׁhak/Ka/DOSHthe Holy Oneוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you knowאֶת־הַכֹּל׃et-hak/KOLall things

    But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

21. 21

    לֹאlonotכָתַבְתִּיkha/TAV/tihave I writtenאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youכִּיkibecauseלֹאlonotיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowאֶת־הָאֱמֶתet-ha/e/METthe truthכִּיkibutאִם־כִּיim-kirather becauseיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowאֹתָהּo/TAitוְכִיve/KHIand thatכׇל־שֶׁקֶרkhol-SHE/kerany lieלֹאlonotמִן־הָאֱמֶתmin-ha/e/METfrom the truthהוּא׃huis

    I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

22. 22

    מִיmiwhoהוּאhuisהַכֹּזֵבhak/ko/ZEVthe liarכִּיkibutאִם־הַמְכַחֵשׁim-ham/kha/CHESHrather the one who deniesבְּיֵשׁוּעַBe/ye/SHU/aJesusלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלֹאlonotהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahהוּאhuhe isזֶהzethisהוּאhuisאוֹיֵבo/YEVthe enemy ofהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahהַמְכַחֵשׁham/kha/CHESHwho deniesבָּאָבba/AVthe Fatherוּבַבֵּן׃u/Vab/BENand the Son

    Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

23. 23

    כׇּל־הַמְכַחֵשׁkol-ham/kha/CHESHeveryone who deniesבַּבֵּןbab/BENthe Sonגַּם־הָאָבgam-Ha/AValso the Fatherאֵין־לוֹen-lohe does not haveוְהַמַּכִּירve/ham/mak/KIRand the one who acknowledgesאֶת־הַבֵּןet-Hab/BENthe Sonלוֹlohasגַּם־הָאָב׃gam-Ha/AValso the Father

    Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

24. 24

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיַעֲמֹדya/a/MODlet remainבָּכֶםba/KHEMin youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMyou have heardמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningאִם־יִשְׁכֹּןim-yish/KONif dwellsבָּכֶםba/KHEMin youאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשְׁמַעְתֶּםshe/ma/TEMyou have heardמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningגַּם־אַתֶּםgam-at/TEMalso youתַּעַמְדוּta/am/DUwill remainבַּבֵּןbab/BENin the Sonוּבָאָב׃u/Va/AVand in the Father

    Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

25. 25

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisהִיאhiit isהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAthe promiseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהִבְטִיחָנוּhiv/ti/cha/NUhe promised usחַיֵּיchay/YEthe life ofעוֹלָם׃o/LAMeternal

    And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

26. 26

    אֵלֶּהEL/lethese thingsכָּתַבְתִּיka/TAV/tiI have writtenאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youעַל־הַמַּתְעִיםal-ham/mat/IMabout those who lead astrayאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

27. 27

    וְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youהַמִּשְׁחָהham/mish/CHAthe anointingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatקִבַּלְתֶּםkib/bal/TEMyou have receivedמֵאִתּוֹme/it/TOfrom himעֹמֶדֶתo/ME/detremainsבָּכֶםba/KHEMin youוְאֵיןve/ENand notלָכֶםla/KHEMto youצֹרֶךְTSO/rekhneedכִּיkithatיְלַמֶּדְכֶםye/lam/med/KHEMshould teach youאִישׁishany manכִּיkibutאִם־כַּאֲשֶׁרim-ka/a/SHERrather asתְּלַמֶּדְכֶםte/lam/med/KHEMteaches youהַמִּשְׁחָהham/mish/CHAthe anointingהַהִיאha/HIthatעַל־כׇּל־דָּבָרal-kol-da/VARabout every matterוְהִיאve/HIand it isאֱמֶתe/METtruthוְלֹאve/LOand notשֶׁקֶרSHE/kera lieוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand asלִמְּדָהlim/me/DAit taughtאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouכֵּןkensoתַּעַמְדוּta/am/DUremainבוֹ׃voin him

    But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28. 28

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבָּנַיba/NAYmy childrenעִמְדוּim/DUremainבוֹvoin himלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatבְּהֵרָאוֹתוֹbe/he/ra/o/TOwhen he appearsתִּהְיֶהtih/YEmay beלָנוּLA/nuto usבִּטְחָהbit/CHAconfidenceוְלֹא־נֵבוֹשׁve/LO-ne/VOSHand we not be ashamedמִפָּנָיוmip/pa/NAYVbefore himבְּבוֹאוֹ׃be/vo/Oat his coming

    And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

29. 29

    אִם־יְדַעְתֶּםim-ye/da/TEMif you knowכִּי־צַדִּיקki-tsad/DIKthat righteousהוּאhuHe isיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatכׇּל־עֹשֵׂהkol-O/seeveryone who doesצְדָקָהtse/da/KArighteousnessנוֹלַדno/LADis bornמִמֶּנּוּ׃mim/MEN/nuof Him

    If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.
