   אֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthat whichהָיָהha/YAwasמֵרֹאשׁme/ROSHfrom the beginningאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe have heardוּבְעֵינֵינוּu/ve/e/NE/nuand with our eyesרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe have seenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhatהִבַּטְנוּhib/bat/NUwe have looked atוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whatמִשְּׁשׁוּmish/she/SHUhave handledיָדֵינוּya/DE/nuour handsעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARconcerning the word ofהַחַיִּים׃ha/chay/YIMlife

   That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

   כִּיkiforהַחַיִּיםha/chay/YIMthe lifeנִגְלוּnig/LUwas revealedוַנֵּרֶאvan/ne/REand we sawוּמְעִידִיםu/me/i/DIMand testifyאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweוּמוֹדִיעִיםu/mo/di/IMand make knownלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֶת־חַיֵּיet-chay/YEthe life ofעוֹלָםo/LAMeternalאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהָיוּha/YUwasעִם־הָאָבim-Ha/AVwith the Fatherוְנִגְלוּve/nig/LUand was revealedלָנוּ׃LA/nuto us

   (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

   אֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthat whichרָאִינוּra/I/nuwe have seenוְשָׁמַעְנוּve/sha/MA/nuand heardמַגִּידִיםmag/gi/DIMdeclareאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּהְיֶהtih/YEmay beגַּם־לָכֶםgam-la/KHEMyou alsoחֶבְרָהchev/RAfellowshipעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuwith usוְאׇמְנָםve/om/NAMand indeedחֶבְרָתֵנוּchev/ra/te/NUour fellowshipעִם־הָאָבim-Ha/AVwith the Fatherוְעִם־בְּנוֹve/IM-be/NOand with His SonיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aJesusהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiah

   That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4. 4

   וְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseכֹּתְבִיםkot/VIMwriteאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָכֶםla/KHEMto youלְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatתִּהְיֶהtih/YEmay beשִׂמְחַתְכֶםsim/chat/KHEMyour joyשְׁלֵמָה׃she/le/MAcomplete

   And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

   וְזֹאתve/ZOTand this isהַשְּׁמוּעָהhash/she/mu/Athe messageאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe have heardמִמֶּנּוּmim/MEN/nufrom himוּמַגִּידִיםu/mag/gi/DIMand declareאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweלָכֶםla/KHEMto youכִּיkithatהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodאוֹרorlightהוּאhuHe isוְכׇל־חֹשֶׁךְve/KHOL-CHO/shekhand any darknessאֵיןenthere is notבּוֹ׃boin Him

   This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6. 6

   אִם־נֹאמַרim-no/MARif we sayכִּיkithatיֶשׁ־לָנוּyesh-LA/nuwe haveחֶבְרָהchev/RAfellowshipעִמּוֹim/MOwith Himוּבַחֹשֶׁךְu/va/CHO/shekhand in darknessנִתְהַלֵּךְnit/hal/LEKHwe walkמְשַׁקְּרִיםme/shak/ke/RIMlyingאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuwe areוְלֹאve/LOand notנַעֲשֶׂהna/a/SEwe doאֶת־הָאֱמֶת׃et-ha/e/METthe truth

   If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

   אֲבָלa/VALbutאִם־נִתְהַלֵּךְim-nit/hal/LEKHif we walkבָּאוֹרba/ORin the lightכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהוּאhuHe isבָאוֹרva/ORin the lightיֶשׁ־לָנוּyesh-LA/nuwe haveחֶבְרָהchev/RAfellowshipאִישׁishoneעִם־אָחִיוim-a/CHIVwith his brotherוְדַם־יֵשׁוּעַve/DAM-ye/SHU/aand the blood of Jesusהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achthe Messiahבְּנוֹbe/NOHis Sonיְטַהֲרֵנוּye/ta/ha/re/NUcleanses usמִכׇּל־חֵטְא׃mik/KOL-chetfrom all sin

   But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8. 8

   אִם־נֹאמַרim-no/MARif we sayכִּיkithatאֵיןennoלָנוּLA/nuwe haveחֵטְאchetsinמַשִּׁיאִיםmash/shi/IMdeceivingאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweאֶת־נַפְשֹׁתֵינוּet-naf/sho/TE/nuour soulsוְהָאֱמֶתve/ha/e/METand the truthאֵיןenis notבָּנוּ׃BA/nuin us

   If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9. 9

   אִם־נִתְוַדֶּהim-nit/vad/DEif we confessאֶת־חַטֹּאתֵינוּet-chat/to/TE/nuour sinsנֶאֱמָןne/e/MANfaithfulהוּאhuHe isוְצַדִּיקve/tsad/DIKand righteousלִסְלֹחַlis/LO/achto forgiveלְחַטֹּאתֵינוּle/chat/to/TE/nuour sinsוּלְטַהֲרֵנוּu/le/ta/ha/re/NUand to cleanse usמִכׇּל־עַוְלָה׃mik/KOL-av/LAfrom all unrighteousness

   If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10. 10

    אִם־נֹאמַרim-no/MARif we sayכִּיkithatלֹאlonotחָטָאנוּcha/TA/nuwe have sinnedלְכֹזֵבle/kho/ZEVa liarנְשִׂימֶנּוּne/si/men/NUwe make Himוּדְבָרוֹu/de/va/ROand His wordאֵיןenis notבָּנוּ׃BA/nuin us

    If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
