   And now it came to pass that Ammon and king Limhi began to consult with the people how they should deliver themselves out of bondage; and even they did cause that all the people should gather themselves together; and this they did that they might have the voice of the people concerning the matter.

   And it came to pass that they could find no way to deliver themselves out of bondage, except it were to take their women and children, and their flocks, and their herds, and their tents, and depart into the wilderness; for the Lamanites being so numerous, it was impossible for the people of Limhi to contend with them, thinking to deliver themselves out of bondage by the sword.

   Now it came to pass that Gideon went forth and stood before the king, and said unto him: Now O king, thou hast hitherto hearkened unto my words many times when we have been contending with our brethren, the Lamanites.

   And now O king, if thou hast not found me to be an unprofitable servant, or if thou hast hitherto listened to my words in any degree, and they have been of service to thee, even so I desire that thou wouldst listen to my words at this time, and I will be thy servant and deliver this people out of bondage.

   וַיִּתֶּן־לוֹvay/YIT/ten-loand granted himהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonאֵלָיו׃e/LAYVunto him

   And the king granted unto him that he might speak. And Gideon said unto him:

   רְאֵהre/Ebeholdאֶת־הַמַּעֲבָרet-ham/ma/a/VARthe passהָאֲחֹרִיha/a/cho/RIbackדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhby wayהַחוֹמָהha/cho/MAof the wallהָאֲחֹרִיתha/a/cho/RITbackמֵאֲחֹרֵיme/a/cho/REon the back sideהָעִירha/IRof the cityהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesאוֹoorשֹׁמְרֵיshom/REthe guardsהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesשִׁכּוֹרִיםshik/ko/RIMare drunkenבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowנִשְׁלַחnish/LACHlet us sendקְרִיאָהke/ri/Aa proclamationבְּכׇל־הָעָםbe/KHOL-ha/AMamong all the peopleלֶאֱסֹףle/e/SOFto gatherאֶת־צֹאנָםet-tso/NAMtheir flocksוּבְקָרָםu/ve/ka/RAMand herdsלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִנְהֲגוּםyin/ha/GUMthey may drive themהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessבַּלָּיְלָה׃bal/LAY/laby night

   Behold the back pass, through the back wall, on the back side of the city. The Lamanites, or the guards of the Lamanites, by night are drunken; therefore let us send a proclamation among all this people that they gather together their flocks and herds, that they may drive them into the wilderness by night.

   וַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iאֵלֵךְe/LEKHwill goכִּדְבָרְךָkid/va/re/KHAaccording to your wordוְאֶתֵּןve/et/TENand I shall payאֶת־מַסet-masthe tributeהַיַּיִןhay/YA/yinof wineהָאַחֲרוֹןha/a/cha/RONthe lastלַלָּמָנִיםlal/La/ma/NIMto the Lamanitesוְיִשְׁכְּרוּve/yish/ke/RUand they will be drunkenוְנַעֲבֹרve/na/a/VORand we will passבַּמַּעֲבָרbam/ma/a/VARthrough the passהַנִּסְתָּרhan/nis/TARsecretמִשְּׂמֹאלmis/se/MOLon the leftמַחֲנֵיהֶםma/cha/ne/HEMof their campבִּהְיוֹתָםbih/yo/TAMwhen they areשִׁכּוֹרִיםshik/ko/RIMdrunkenוִישֵׁנִים׃vi/she/NIMand asleep

   And I will go according to thy command and pay the last tribute of wine to the Lamanites, and they will be drunken; and we will pass through the secret pass on the left of their camp when they are drunken and asleep.

8. 8

   וְכָכָהve/KHA/khaand thusנֵצֵאne/TSEwe will departעִם־נָשֵׁינוּim-na/SHE/nuwith our womenוְטַפֵּנוּve/tap/PE/nuand our childrenוְצֹאנֵנוּve/tso/ne/NUour flocksוּבְקָרֵנוּu/ve/ka/re/NUand our herdsהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessוְנָסֹבve/na/SOVand we will travel aroundאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe landשִׁילוֹם׃SHI/lomof Shilom

   Thus we will depart with our women and our children, our flocks, and our herds into the wilderness; and we will travel around the land of Shilom.

   וַיִּשְׁמַעvay/yish/MAand hearkenedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְדִבְרֵיle/div/REunto the wordsגִדְעוֹן׃Gid/ONof Gideon

   And it came to pass that the king hearkened unto the words of Gideon.

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלִמְהִיLIM/hiLimhiאֶת־עַמּוֹet-am/MOhis peopleלֶאֱסֹףle/e/SOFto gatherאֶת־מִקְנֵיהֶםet-mik/ne/HEMtheir flocksוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאֶת־מַסet-masthe tributeהַיַּיִןhay/YA/yinof wineלַלָּמָנִיםlal/La/ma/NIMto the Lamanitesוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentגַּם־יַיִןgam-YA/yinalso wineנוֹסָףno/SAFmoreמִנְחָהmin/CHAas a presentלָהֶםla/HEMunto themוַיִּשְׁתּוּvay/yish/TUand they drankלָרֹבla/ROVin abundanceמִן־הַיַּיִןmin-hay/YA/yinof the wineאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלִמְהִיLIM/hiLimhiלָהֶם׃la/HEMunto them

    And king Limhi caused that his people should gather their flocks together; and he sent the tribute of wine to the Lamanites; and he also sent more wine, as a present unto them; and they did drink freely of the wine which king Limhi did send unto them.

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand departedעַםamthe peopleהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingלִמְהִיLIM/hiLimhiבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessעִם־צֹאנָםim-tso/NAMwith their flocksוּבְקָרָםu/ve/ka/RAMand their herdsוַיָּסֹבּוּvay/ya/SOB/buand they went aroundאֶת־אֶרֶץet-E/retsthe landשִׁילוֹםSHI/lomof Shilomבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַיַּטּוּvay/yat/TUand they turnedדַרְכָּםdar/KAMtheir courseאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְעַמּוֹןve/Am/MONand Ammonוְאֶחָיוve/e/CHAYVand his brethrenמַנְחִיםman/CHIMleadingאוֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    And it came to pass that the people of king Limhi did depart by night into the wilderness with their flocks and their herds, and they went round about the land of Shilom in the wilderness, and bent their course towards the land of Zarahemla, being led by Ammon and his brethren.

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookאֶת־כׇּל־זְהָבָםet-kol-ze/ha/VAMall their goldוְכַסְפָּםve/khas/PAMand their silverוְכׇל־סְגֻלּוֹתֵיהֶםve/KHOL-se/gul/lo/te/HEMand all their precious thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָכְלוּya/khe/LUthey couldלָשֵׂאתla/SETto bearוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־צֵידָתָםet-tse/da/TAMtheir provisionsהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessוַיִּשְׁקְדוּvay/yish/ke/DUand they continuedבְּמַסָּעָם׃be/mas/sa/AMin their journey

    And they had taken all their gold, and silver, and their precious things, which they could carry, and also their provisions with them, into the wilderness; and they pursued their journey.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהֱיוֹתָםhe/yo/TAMbeingיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uthey arrivedאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוַיִּתְחַבְּרוּvay/yit/chab/be/RUand joinedאֶל־עַםel-amunto the peopleמוֹשִׁיָּהMo/SHIY/yaof Mosiahוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereלוֹloto himלַעֲבָדִים׃la/a/va/DIMfor subjects

    And after being many days in the wilderness they arrived in the land of Zarahemla, and joined Mosiah’s people, and became his subjects.

14. 14

    וַיְקַבְּלֵםvay/kab/be/LEMand received themמוֹשִׁיָּהMo/SHIY/yaMosiahבְּשִׂמְחָהbe/sim/CHAwith joyוְגַם־קִבֵּלve/GAM-kib/BELand also receivedאֶת־סִפְרֵיהֶםet-sif/re/HEMtheir recordsוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־הַסְּפָרִיםet-has/se/fa/RIMthe recordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמָצְאוּma/tse/Uhad been found byעַםamthe peopleלִמְהִי׃LIM/hiof Limhi

    And it came to pass that Mosiah received them with joy; and he also received their records, and also the records which had been found by the people of Limhi.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenמָצְאוּma/tse/Ufoundהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesכִּיkithatיָצְאוּya/tse/Udepartedעַםamthe peopleלִמְהִיLIM/hiof Limhiמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the landבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightוַיִּשְׁלְחוּvay/yish/le/CHUthat they sentצָבָאtsa/VAan armyאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themהַמִּדְבָּרָה׃ham/mid/BA/rainto the wilderness

    And now it came to pass when the Lamanites had found that the people of Limhi had departed out of the land by night, that they sent an army into the wilderness to pursue them;

16. 16

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterרׇדְפָםrod/FAMthey pursued themיוֹמַיִםyo/MA/yimtwo daysוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכְלוּya/khe/LUthey couldעוֹדodmoreלִמְצֹאlim/TSOfindאֶת־עִקְבוֹתֵיהֶםet-ik/vo/te/HEMtheir tracksעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeתָּעוּta/Uthey wanderedבַמִּדְבָּר׃vam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    And after they had pursued them two days, they could no longer follow their tracks; therefore they were lost in the wilderness.
