   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכְּכַלּוֹתke/khal/LOTwhen finishedאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diAbinadiאֶת־דְּבָרָיוet-de/va/RAYVhis sayingsוַיְצַוvay/TSAVthat commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־הַכֹּהֲנִיםet-hak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsלְקַחְתּוֹle/kach/TOto take himוְלַהֲמִיתוֹ׃ve/la/ha/mi/TOand to put him to death

   And now it came to pass that when Abinadi had finished these sayings, that the king commanded that the priests should take him and cause that he should be put to death.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasאִישׁisha manאֶחָדe/CHADoneבְּתוֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOwhose name wasאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaגַּם־הוּאgam-hualso heמִזֶּרַעmiz/ZE/raa descendantנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiוְהוּאve/HUand he wasנַעַרNA/ara young manוַיַּאֲמֵןvay/ya/a/MENand he believedבְּדִבְרֵיbe/div/REthe wordsאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diof Abinadiכִּיkiforיָדַעya/DAhe knewאֶת־הָעָוֹןet-ha/a/VONthe iniquityאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵעִידhe/IDhe testifiedעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheltherefore he beganלְהִתְחַנֵּןle/hit/chan/NENto pleadאֶל־הַמֶּלֶךְel-ham/ME/lekhwith the kingלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat notיִחַר־אַפּוֹYI/char-ap/POhe be angryבַּאֲבִינָדִיba/A/VI/na/diwith Abinadiוּלְתִתּוֹu/le/tit/TObut to suffer himלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goבְּשָׁלוֹם׃be/sha/LOMin peace

   But there was one among them whose name was Alma, he also being a descendant of Nephi. And he was a young man, and he believed the words which Abinadi had spoken, for he knew concerning the iniquity which Abinadi had testified against them; therefore he began to plead with the king that he would not be angry with Abinadi, but suffer that he might depart in peace.

   וַיִּקְצֹףvay/yik/TSOFbut was wrothהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingעוֹדodmoreוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand causedלְגָרֵשׁle/ga/RESHto cast outאֶת־אַלְמָאet-AL/maAlmaמִתּוֹכָםmit/to/KHAMfrom among themוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאֶת־עֲבָדָיוet-a/va/DAYVhis servantsאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himלַהֲרֹגla/ha/ROGthat they might slayאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

   But the king was more wroth, and caused that Alma should be cast out from among them, and sent his servants after him that they might slay him.

   וַיָּנׇסvay/YA/nosbut he fledמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMfrom before themוַיִּסָּתֵרvay/yis/sa/TERand hid himselfוְלֹאve/LOand notמְצָאֻהוּme/tsa/U/huthey found himוַיְהִיvay/HIand he beingנֶחְבָּאnech/BAconcealedיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַיִּכְתֹּבvay/yikh/TOVand he wroteאֶת־כׇּל־דִּבְרֵיet-kol-div/REall the wordsאֲבִינָדִי׃A/VI/na/diof Abinadi

   But he fled from before them and hid himself that they found him not. And he being concealed for many days did write all the words which Abinadi had spoken.

   וַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־שֹׁמְרָיוet-shom/RAYVhis guardsלָסֹבla/SOVto surroundאֶת־אֲבִינָדִיet-A/VI/na/diAbinadiוּלְתׇפְשׂוֹu/le/tof/SOand to take himוַיַּאַסְרֻהוּvay/ya/as/RU/huand bound himוַיַּשְׁלִיכֻהוּvay/yash/li/khu/HUand cast himבֵּיתbetinto the houseהַכֶּלֶא׃hak/KE/leof prison

   And it came to pass that the king caused that his guards should surround Abinadi and take him; and they bound him and cast him into prison.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedמִקְצֵהmik/TSEafterשְׁלֹשֶׁתshe/LO/shetthreeיָמִיםya/MIMdaysוַיִּוָּעַץvay/yiv/va/ATSand he took counselעִם־כֹּהֲנָיוim-ko/ha/NAYVwith his priestsוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand commandedלַהֲבִיאוֹla/ha/vi/Oto bring himלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himשֵׁנִית׃she/NITagain

   And after three days, having counseled with his priests, he caused that he should again be brought before him.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himמָצָאנוּma/TSA/nuwe foundעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaagainst youשִׂטְנָהsit/NAan accusationוּבֶן־מָוֶתu/VEN-MA/vetand worthy of deathאָתָּה׃AT/taare you

   And he said unto him: Abinadi, we have found an accusation against thee, and thou art worthy of death.

8. 8

   כִּיkiforאָמַרְתָּa/MAR/tayou saidכִּיkithatהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMGodהוּאhuHimselfיֵרֵדye/REDshould come downבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHamongבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםbe/NE-ha/a/DAMthe children of menוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofזֹאתzotthisמוֹתmotdieתָּמוּתta/MUTyou shall dieאִם־לֹאim-loexceptתָשִׁיבta/SHIVyou recallאֶת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםet-kol-had/de/va/RIMall the wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבַּרְתָּdib/BAR/tayou spokeרָעָהra/Aevilעָלַיa/LAYagainst meוְעַל־עַמִּי׃ve/AL-am/MIand against my people

   For thou hast said that God himself should come down among the children of men; and now, for this cause thou shalt be put to death unless thou wilt recall all the words which thou hast spoken evil concerning me and my people.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diAbinadiאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himאֹמֵרo/MERsayאֲנִיa/NIIלְךָle/KHAunto youלֹאlonotאָשִׁיבa/SHIVI will recallאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMconcerning the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisכִּיkiforאֱמֶתe/METtrueהֵםhemthey areוּלְמַעַןu/le/MA/anand thatתֵּדְעוּted/Uyou may knowכִּיkithatנֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMsureהֵםhemthey areנָתַתִּיna/TAT/tiI sufferedנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImyselfלִנְפֹּלlin/POLto fallבְּיֶדְכֶם׃be/yed/KHEMinto your hands

   Now Abinadi said unto him: I say unto you, I will not recall the words which I have spoken unto you concerning this people, for they are true; and that ye may know of their surety I have suffered myself that I have fallen into your hands.

    הֵןhenyeaאֶסְבֹּלes/BOLI shall sufferעַד־מָוֶתad-MA/veteven unto deathוְלֹאve/LOand notאָשִׁיבa/SHIVI shall recallאֶת־דְּבָרַיet-de/va/RAYmy wordsוְעָמְדוּve/a/me/DUand they shall standלְעֵדוּתle/e/DUTas a testimonyבָּכֶםba/KHEMagainst youוְאִם־תְּמִיתוּנִיve/IM-te/mi/tu/NIand if you slay meדַּםdambloodנָקִיna/KIinnocentתִּשְׁפְּכוּtish/pe/KHUyou shall shedוְגַם־זֹאתve/GAM-zotand this alsoתַּעֲמֹדta/a/MODshall standלְעֵדוּתle/e/DUTas a testimonyבָּכֶםba/KHEMagainst youבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMat the dayהָאַחֲרוֹן׃ha/a/cha/RONlast

    Yea, and I will suffer even until death, and I will not recall my words, and they shall stand as a testimony against you. And if ye slay me ye will shed innocent blood, and this shall also stand as a testimony against you at the last day.

11. 11

    וַיּוֹאֶלvay/YO/eland was mindedנֹחַNO/achNoahהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלְשַׁלְּחוֹle/shal/le/CHOto release himכִּיkiforיָרֵאya/REhe fearedאֶת־דְּבָרוֹet-de/va/ROhis wordוַיִּירָאvay/yi/RAand he fearedפֶּן־יָבֹאוּpen-ya/VO/ulest should comeעָלָיוa/LAYVupon himמִשְׁפְּטֵיmish/pe/TEthe judgmentsאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMof God

    And now king Noah was about to release him, for he feared his word; for he feared that the judgments of God would come upon him.

12. 12

    וַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand lifted upהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsאֶת־קוֹלָםet-ko/LAMtheir voicesעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלְהַאֲשִׁימוֹle/ha/a/shi/MOto accuse himלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingחֵרֵףche/REFhe reviledאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeחָרָה־אַףcha/RA-afwas stirred up in angerהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבּוֹbowith himוַיִּתְּנֵהוּvay/yit/te/NE/huand delivered him upלְהָמִית׃le/ha/MITto be put to death

    But the priests lifted up their voices against him, and began to accuse him, saying: He has reviled the king. Therefore the king was stirred up in anger against him, and he delivered him up that he might be slain.

13. 13

    וַיִּקָּחֻהוּvay/yik/ka/CHU/huand they took himוַיַּאַסְרֻהוּvay/ya/as/RU/huand bound himוַיַּכּוּvay/yak/KUand scourgedאֶת־בְּשָׂרוֹet-be/sa/ROhis skinבְּלַפִּידֵי־אֵשׁbe/lap/pi/DE-eshwith faggots of fireעַד־מָוֶת׃ad-MA/vetuntil death

    And it came to pass that they took him and bound him, and scourged his skin with faggots, yea, even unto death.

14. 14

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהֵחֵלָּהhe/CHEL/labeganהָאֵשׁha/ESHthe fireלִצְרֹבlits/ROVto scorchאוֹתוֹo/TOhimוַיִּזְעַקvay/yiz/AKhe criedאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And now when the flames began to scorch him, he cried unto them, saying:

15. 15

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHEReven asעֲשִׂיתֶםa/si/TEMyou didלִיliunto meכֵּןkensoיִהְיֶהyih/YEit shall beכִּיkithatזַרְעֲכֶםzar/a/KHEMyour seedיַעֲשׂוּya/a/SUshall causeלְרַבִּיםle/rab/BIMmanyלִסְבֹּלlis/BOLshall sufferאֶת־הַמַּכְאֹבִיםet-ham/makh/o/VIMthe painsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatאֲנִיa/NIIסֹבֵלso/VELsufferאַףafevenמַכְאֹבֵיmakh/o/VEthe painsמָוֶתMA/vetof deathבָּאֵשׁba/ESHby fireוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisכִּיkibecauseיַאֲמִינוּya/a/MI/nuthey shall believeבִּישׁוּעַתbi/shu/ATin the salvationיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

    Behold, even as ye have done unto me, so shall it come to pass that thy seed shall cause that many shall suffer the pains that I do suffer, even the pains of death by fire; and this because they believe in the salvation of the Lord their God.

16. 16

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכִּיkithatתֻכּוּtuk/KUyou shall be smittenבְּכׇל־תַּחֲלֻאִיםbe/KHOL-ta/cha/lu/IMwith all manner of diseasesבַּעֲוֹנוֹתֵיכֶם׃ba/a/vo/no/te/KHEMbecause of your iniquities

    And it will come to pass that ye shall be afflicted with all manner of diseases because of your iniquities.

17. 17

    וְנֻכֵּיתֶםve/nuk/ke/TEMand you shall be smittenמִכׇּל־עֵבֶרmik/KOL-E/veron every sideוְנִדַּחְתֶּםve/nid/dach/TEMand shall be drivenוּנְפֹצוֹתֶםu/ne/fo/tso/TEMand scatteredהֵנָּהHEN/nahitherוָהֵנָּהva/HEN/naand thitherכְּעֵדֶרke/E/deras a flockפֶּרֶאPE/rewildנִדָּחnid/DACHdrivenמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbyחַיּוֹתchay/YOTbeastsרָעוֹתra/OTwildוְטֹרְפוֹת׃ve/tor/FOTand ferocious

    Yea, and ye shall be smitten on every hand, and shall be driven and scattered to and fro, even as a wild flock is driven by wild and ferocious beasts.

18. 18

    וּבַיּוֹםu/vay/YOMand in dayהַהוּאha/HUthatתּוּצְדוּtuts/DUyou shall be huntedוְנִתַּתֶּםve/nit/tat/TEMand you shall be takenבְּיַדbe/YADby the handאֹיְבֵיכֶםoy/ve/KHEMof your enemiesוְאָזve/AZand thenתִּסְבְּלוּtis/be/LUyou shall sufferכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasאֲנִיa/NIIסֹבֵלso/VELsufferמַכְאֹבֵיmakh/o/VEthe painsמָוֶתMA/vetof deathבָּאֵשׁ׃ba/ESHby fire

    And in that day ye shall be hunted, and ye shall be taken by the hand of your enemies, and then ye shall suffer, as I suffer, the pains of death by fire.

19. 19

    כֵּןkenthusיִקֹּםyik/KOMshall avengeאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodנִקְמַתnik/MATvengeance uponמַשְׁחִיתֵיmash/chi/TEthose who destroyעַמּוֹam/MOHis peopleאָנָּאan/NAOאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodקַחkachtakeנַפְשִׁי׃naf/SHImy soul

    Thus God executeth vengeance upon those that destroy his people. O God, receive my soul.

20. 20

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכְּכַלּוֹתke/khal/LOTwhen finishedאֲבִינָדִיA/VI/na/diAbinadiאֶת־דְּבָרָיוet-de/va/RAYVhis wordsוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand he fellוַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand he diedבָּאֵשׁba/ESHby fireכִּיkithatמֵאֵןme/ENhe refusedלְכַחֵשׁle/kha/CHESHto denyבְּמִצְוֹתbe/mits/VOTthe commandmentsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוַיַּחְתֹּםvay/yach/TOMand sealedאֶת־אֱמֶתet-e/METthe truthדְּבָרָיוde/va/RAYVof his wordsבְּמוֹתוֹ׃be/mo/TOby his death

    And now, when Abinadi had said these words, he fell, having suffered death by fire; yea, having been put to death because he would not deny the commandments of God, having sealed the truth of his words by his death.
