   וַיְהִיand it happenedכִּשְׁמֹעַwhen had heardהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיֹּאמֶרhe saidאֶל־כֹּהֲנָיוunto his priestsקְחוּaway withאֶת־הָאִישׁthe manהַזֶּהthisוַהֲרָגֻהוּand slay himכִּיforמַה־לָּנוּwhat have weוָלוֹto do with himכִּיforמְשֻׁגָּעmadהוּא׃he is

   And now when the king had heard these words, he said unto his priests: Away with this fellow, and slay him; for what have we to do with him, for he is mad.

   וַיִּגְשׁוּand they came forthוַיְבַקְשׁוּand soughtלִשְׁלֹחַto layבּוֹupon himיָדhandsוַיַּעֲמֹדand he withstoodלִפְנֵיהֶםbefore themוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶם׃unto them

   And they stood forth and attempted to lay their hands on him; but he withstood them, and said unto them:

   אַל־תִּגְּעוּtouch notבִּיmeכִּיforיַכֶּהshall smiteאֶתְכֶםyouאֱלֹהִיםGodאִם־תִּשְׁלְחוּif you layבִּיin meיָדhandsכִּי־לֹאfor I have notמָסַרְתִּיdeliveredאֶת־הַמַּשָּׂאthe messageאֲשֶׁרwhichשְׁלָחַנִיhas sent meיְהוָהthe Lordלִמְסֹרto deliverוְגַםand alsoלֹא־הִגַּדְתִּיI have not toldלָכֶםyouאֲשֶׁרthat whichבִּקַּשְׁתֶּםyou requestedמִמֶּנִּיfrom meלְהַגִּידto declareלָכֵןthereforeלֹא־יִתֵּןwill not sufferאֱלֹהִיםGodלְהַשְׁמִידֵנִיthat I be destroyedבָּעֵתat the timeהַזֹּאת׃this

   Touch me not, for God shall smite you if ye lay your hands upon me, for I have not delivered the message which the Lord sent me to deliver; neither have I told you that which ye requested that I should tell; therefore, God will not suffer that I shall be destroyed at this time.

   אַךְbutעָלַיupon me isלְהַשְׁלִיםto fulfillאֶת־הַמִּצְוֹתthe commandmentsאֲשֶׁרwhichצִוַּנִיhas commanded meאֱלֹהִיםGodוְעַלand becauseכִּיthatהִגַּדְתִּיI have toldלָכֶםyouאֱמֶתthe truthקְצַפְתֶּםyou are wrothעָלָיwith meוְעוֹדand againעַלbecauseכִּי־דִבַּרְתִּיthat I spokeדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםthe word of Godשְׁפַטְתֶּםyou have judgedאֹתִיmeלִמְשֻׁגָּע׃that I am mad

   But I must fulfil the commandments wherewith God has commanded me; and because I have told you the truth ye are angry with me. And again, because I have spoken the word of God ye have judged me that I am mad.

   וַיְהִיand it happenedאַחֲרֵיafterדַבֵּרhad spokenאֲבִינָדִיAbinadiאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוְלֹא־הֵעֵזּוּthat durst notעַםthe people ofהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingנֹחַNoahלִשְׁלֹחַlayבּוֹupon himיָדhandsכִּי־הָיָהfor had beenרוּחַthe Spirit ofיְהוָהthe Lordעָלָיוupon himוַיִּקְרְנוּand shoneפָנָיוhis faceבִּמְאֹדveryמְאֹדexceedinglyכַּאֲשֶׁרeven asקָרְנוּshoneפְּנֵיthe face ofמֹשֶׁהMosesבְּהַרin the mount ofסִינַיSinaiבְּדַבְּרוֹwhile he spokeעִםwithיְהוָה׃the Lord

   Now it came to pass after Abinadi had spoken these words that the people of king Noah durst not lay their hands on him, for the Spirit of the Lord was upon him; and his face shone with exceeding luster, even as Moses’ did while in the mount of Sinai, while speaking with the Lord.

   וַיְדַבֵּרand he spokeבְּכֹחַwith powerוּבְסַמְכוּתand authorityמֵאֵתfromאֱלֹהִיםGodוַיּוֹסֶףand he continuedלְדַבֵּרto speakלֵאמֹר׃saying

   And he spake with power and authority from God; and he continued his words, saying:

   הִנְּכֶםbehold youרֹאִיםseeכִּיthatאֵיןthere is noבְּיֶדְכֶםin your powerלַהֲמִיתֵנִיto slay meלָכֵןthereforeאֲכַלֶּהI shall finishאֶת־מַשָּׂאִיmy messageוְגַם־רֹאֶהand also perceiveאֲנִיIכִּיthatיַכְאִיבit shall painלִבְּכֶםyour heartsכִּיbecauseאַגִּידI tellלָכֶםyouאֱמֶתthe truthעַלconcerningעֲוֹנֹתֵיכֶם׃your iniquities

   Ye see that ye have not power to slay me, therefore I finish my message. Yea, and I perceive that it cuts you to your hearts because I tell you the truth concerning your iniquities.

8. 8

   וְגַםand alsoדְּבָרַיmy wordsמְמַלְּאִיםfillאֶתְכֶםyouפֶּלֶאwith wonderוְתִמָּהוֹןand amazementוָכַעַס׃and with anger

   Yea, and my words fill you with wonder and amazement, and with anger.

9. 9

   אַךְbutאֲכַלֶּהI shall finishאֶת־מַשָּׂאִיmy messageוְאַחֲרֵי־כֵןand thenאַחַתoneהִיאit isלִיto meאָנָהwhitherאֵלֵךְI shall goאִםifאִוָּשֵׁעַ׃I be saved

   But I finish my message; and then it matters not whither I go, if it so be that I am saved.

10. 10

    אַךְbutזֹאתthis muchאַגִּידI tellלָכֶםyouכִּיthatאֲשֶׁרwhichתַּעֲשׂוּyou doלִיto meאַחֲרֵי־כֵןafter thisיִהְיֶהit shall beלְאוֹתfor a typeוּלְמוֹפֵתand a shadowלַדְּבָרִיםof thingsהַבָּאִים׃which are to come

    But this much I tell you, what you do with me, after this, shall be as a type and a shadow of things which are to come.

11. 11

    וְעַתָּהand nowאֶקְרָאI will readלִפְנֵיכֶםunto youאֶת־יֶתֶרthe rest ofמִצְוֹת־אֱלֹהִיםthe commandments of GodכִּיforרֹאֶהperceiveאֲנִיIכִּי־לֹאthat notנִכְתְּבוּthey are writtenבִּלְבַבְכֶםin your heartsרֹאֶהperceiveאֲנִיIכִּיthatלְמַדְתֶּםyou have learnedוְהוֹרֵיתֶםand have taughtעָוֹןiniquityרֹבmost ofיְמֵיכֶם׃your days

    And now I read unto you the remainder of the commandments of God, for I perceive that they are not written in your hearts; I perceive that ye have studied and taught iniquity the most part of your lives.

12. 12

    וְעַתָּהand nowזִכְרוּrememberכִּיthatאָמַרְתִּיI saidלָכֶםunto youלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂהyou shall not makeלְךָunto youפֶסֶלany graven imageוְכׇל־תְּמוּנָהor any likenessאֲשֶׁרof that whichבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenמִמַּעַלaboveוַאֲשֶׁרor thatבָּאָרֶץin the earthמִתָּחַתbeneathוַאֲשֶׁרor thatבַּמַּיִםin the waterמִתַּחַתunderלָאָרֶץ׃the earth

    And now, ye remember that I said unto you: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of things which are in heaven above, or which are in the earth beneath, or which are in the water under the earth.

13. 13

    וְגַםand againלֹא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶהyou shall not bow down yourselfלָהֶםunto themוְלֹאnorתׇעׇבְדֵםserve themכִּיforאָנֹכִיIיְהוָהthe Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godאֵלa Godקַנָּאjealousפֹּקֵדvisitingעֲוֹןthe iniquity ofאָבוֹתthe fathersעַל־בָּנִיםupon the childrenעַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁיםupon the thirdוְעַל־רִבֵּעִיםand fourth generationלְשֹׂנְאָי׃of them that hate Me

    And again: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generations of them that hate me;

14. 14

    וְעֹשֶׂהand showingחֶסֶדmercyלַאֲלָפִיםunto thousandsלְאֹהֲבַיof them that love Meוּלְשֹׁמְרֵיand to those who keepמִצְוֹתָי׃My commandments

    And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

15. 15

    לֹאyou shall notתִשָּׂאtakeאֶת־שֵׁם־יְהוָהthe name of the Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלַשָּׁוְאin vainכִּי־לֹאfor notיְנַקֶּהshall hold guiltlessיְהוָהthe Lordאֵת־אֲשֶׁר־יִשָּׂאhim that takesאֶת־שְׁמוֹHis nameלַשָּׁוְא׃in vain

    Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

16. 16

    זָכוֹרrememberאֶת־יוֹםthe dayהַשַּׁבָּתthe sabbathלְקַדְּשׁוֹ׃to keep it holy

    Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

17. 17

    שֵׁשֶׁת־יָמִיםsix daysתַּעֲבֹדshall you laborוְעָשִׂיתָand doכׇּל־מְלַאכְתֶּךָ׃all your work

    Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work;

18. 18

    וְיוֹםand dayהַשְּׁבִיעִיthe seventhשַׁבָּתthe sabbath ofלַיהוָהthe Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂהyou shall not doכׇל־מְלָאכָהany workאַתָּהyouוּבִנְךָnor your sonוּבִתֶּךָnor your daughterעַבְדְּךָyour manservantוַאֲמָתְךָnor your maidservantוּבְהֶמְתֶּךָnor your cattleוְגֵרְךָnor your strangerאֲשֶׁרwhichבִּשְׁעָרֶיךָ׃within your gates

    But the seventh day, the sabbath of the Lord thy God, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates;

19. 19

    כִּיforשֵׁשֶׁת־יָמִיםin six daysעָשָׂהmadeיְהוָהthe Lordאֶת־הַשָּׁמַיִםheavenוְאֶת־הָאָרֶץand the earthאֶת־הַיָּםthe seaוְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־בָּםand all that in themעַל־כֵּןwhereforeבֵּרַךְblessedיְהוָהthe Lordאֶת־יוֹםthe dayהַשַּׁבָּתthe sabbathוַיְקַדְּשֵׁהוּ׃and hallowed it

    For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is; wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

20. 20

    כַּבֵּדhonorאֶת־אָבִיךָyour fatherוְאֶת־אִמֶּךָand your motherלְמַעַןthatיַאֲרִיכוּןmay be longיָמֶיךָyour daysעַלuponהָאֲדָמָהthe landאֲשֶׁר־יְהוָהwhich the Lordאֱלֹהֶיךָyour Godנֹתֵןgivesלָךְ׃unto you

    Honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

21. 21

    לֹאyou shall notתִּרְצָח׃kill

    Thou shalt not kill.

22. 22

    לֹאyou shall notתִּנְאָףcommit adulteryלֹאyou shall notתִּגְנֹב׃steal

    Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal.

23. 23

    לֹא־תַעֲנֶהyou shall not bearבְרֵעֲךָagainst your neighborעֵדwitnessשָׁקֶר׃false

    Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

24. 24

    לֹא־תַחְמֹדyou shall not covetבֵּיתthe house ofרֵעֶךָyour neighborלֹא־תַחְמֹדyou shall not covetאֵשֶׁתthe wife ofרֵעֶךָyour neighborוְעַבְדּוֹnor his manservantוַאֲמָתוֹnor his maidservantוְשׁוֹרוֹnor his oxוַחֲמֹרוֹnor his assוְכֹלnor anythingאֲשֶׁרwhichלְרֵעֶךָ׃your neighbor's

    Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיand it happenedכְּכַלּוֹתwhen had made an end ofאֲבִינָדִיAbinadiאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe sayingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיֹּאמֶרand he saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto themהֲלִמַּדְתֶּםhave you taughtאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisלִשְׁמֹרto keepוְלַעֲשׂוֹתand doאֶת־כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseלְמַעַןthatיִשְׁמְרוּthey shall keepאֶת־הַמִּצְוֹתthe commandmentsהָאֵלֶּה׃these

    And it came to pass that after Abinadi had made an end of these sayings that he said unto them: Have ye taught this people that they should observe to do all these things for to keep these commandments?

26. 26

    אֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youלֹאnayכִּי־אִםfor ifכֵּןsoלֹא־שָׁלַחwould not have sentיְהוָהthe Lordאֹתִיmeלָבֹאto come forthוּלְהִנָּבֵאand to prophesyרָעָהevilעַל־הָעָםconcerning the peopleהַזֶּה׃this

    I say unto you, Nay; for if ye had, the Lord would not have caused me to come forth and to prophesy evil concerning this people.

27. 27

    וְעַתָּהand nowאֲמַרְתֶּםyou have saidכִּיthatתָּבֹאcomesהַיְשׁוּעָהsalvationבְּתוֹרַתby the law ofמֹשֶׁהMosesאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youכִּיthat it isנָכוֹןexpedientלָכֶםfor youלִשְׁמֹרto keepאֶת־תּוֹרַתthe law ofמֹשֶׁהMosesעַד־עַתָּהas yetאַךְbutאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youכִּיthatיָבֹאshall comeיוֹםa dayוְלֹא־יִהְיֶהand it shall not beעוֹדmoreנָכוֹןexpedientלִשְׁמֹרto keepאֶת־תּוֹרַתthe law ofמֹשֶׁה׃Moses

    And now ye have said that salvation cometh by the law of Moses. I say unto you that it is expedient that ye should keep the law of Moses as yet; but I say unto you, that the time shall come when it shall no more be expedient to keep the law of Moses.

28. 28

    וְעוֹדand moreoverאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youכִּי־לֹאthat notתָבֹאdoes comeהַיְשׁוּעָהsalvationבַּתּוֹרָהby the lawלְבַדָּהּaloneוְלוּלֵיand were it not forהַכַּפָּרָהthe atonementאֲשֶׁרwhichיַעֲשֶׂהshall makeאֱלֹהִיםGodהוּאHimselfלְחַטֹּאתfor the sins ofעַמּוֹHis peopleוַעֲוֹנוֹתֵיהֶםand their iniquitiesכִּיthatאָזthenאָבֹדperishיֹאבֵדוּthey must unavoidably perishאַףevenעִם־תּוֹרַתwith the law ofמֹשֶׁה׃Moses

    And moreover, I say unto you, that salvation doth not come by the law alone; and were it not for the atonement, which God himself shall make for the sins and iniquities of his people, that they must unavoidably perish, notwithstanding the law of Moses.

29. 29

    וְעַתָּהand nowאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youכִּיthatנָכוֹןexpedientהָיָהwasלָתֵתto giveתּוֹרָהa lawלִבְנֵיto the children ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelאַףyea evenתּוֹרָהa lawחֲזָקָהstrictמְאֹדveryכִּיforעַם־קְשֵׁה־עֹרֶףa stiffnecked peopleהֵמָּהthey wereמְמַהֲרִיםquickלַעֲשׂוֹתto doרָעָהevilוּמְאַחֲרִיםand slowלִזְכֹּרto rememberאֶת־יְהוָהthe Lordאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃their God

    And now I say unto you that it was expedient that there should be a law given to the children of Israel, yea, even a very strict law; for they were a stiffnecked people, quick to do iniquity, and slow to remember the Lord their God;

30. 30

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeנִתְּנָהwas givenלָהֶםunto themתּוֹרָהa lawאַףyeaתּוֹרַתa law ofמַעֲשִׂיםperformancesוְחֻקִּיםand of ordinancesתּוֹרָהa lawאֲשֶׁרwhichיִשְׁמְרוּthey shall keepמְאֹדstrictlyיוֹםdayיוֹםby dayלְמַעַןthatיִזְכְּרוּthey may rememberאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםGodוּמִשְׁמַרְתָּםand their dutyאֵלָיו׃unto Him

    Therefore there was a law given them, yea, a law of performances and of ordinances, a law which they were to observe strictly from day to day, to keep them in remembrance of God and their duty towards him.

31. 31

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youכִּיthatכׇל־הַדְּבָרִיםall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseהָיוּwereלְאוֹתוֹתtypesלַדְּבָרִיםof thingsהַבָּאִים׃which were to come

    But behold, I say unto you, that all these things were types of things to come.

32. 32

    וְעַתָּהand nowהֲהֵבִינוּdid they understandאֶת־הַתּוֹרָהthe lawאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםunto youלֹאnayלֹא־הֵבִינוּthey did not understandכֻלָּםall of themאֶת־הַתּוֹרָהthe lawוְזֹאתand thisמִפְּנֵיbecause ofקְשִׁיthe hardness ofלִבָּםtheir heartsכִּי־לֹאfor notהֵבִינוּthey understoodכִּי־לֹאthat notיוּכַלcanאָדָםmanלְהִוָּשַׁעbe savedבִּלְתִּיexceptבִּגְאֻלַּתthrough the redemption ofאֱלֹהִים׃God

    And now, did they understand the law? I say unto you, Nay, they did not all understand the law; and this because of the hardness of their hearts; for they understood not that there could not any man be saved except it were through the redemption of God.

33. 33

    כִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdהֲלֹאdid notנִבָּאprophesyמֹשֶׁהMosesלָהֶםunto themעַל־בּוֹאof the coming ofהַמָּשִׁיחַthe Messiahוְכִיand thatיִגְאַלwould redeemאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־עַמּוֹHis peopleהֵןyeaוְגַםand evenכׇּל־הַנְּבִיאִיםall the prophetsאֲשֶׁרwhoנִבְּאוּhave prophesiedמֵאָזsinceהוּסַדwas foundedתֵּבֵלthe worldהֲלֹאhave they notדִבְּרוּspokenמְעַטsomewhatאוֹorהַרְבֵּהmuchעַל־הַדְּבָרִיםconcerning the thingsהָאֵלֶּה׃these

    For behold, did not Moses prophesy unto them concerning the coming of the Messiah, and that God should redeem his people? Yea, and even all the prophets who have prophesied ever since the world began—have they not spoken more or less concerning these things?

34. 34

    הֲלֹאhave they notאָמְרוּsaidכִּיthatיֵרֵדwould come downאֱלֹהִיםGodהוּאHimselfבֵּיןamongבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםthe children of menוְיִלְבַּשׁand shall take upon Himצוּרַתthe form ofאָדָםmanוְיֵלֵךְand shall go forthבְּכֹחַwith powerגָּדוֹלgreatעַל־פְּנֵיupon the face ofהָאָרֶץ׃the earth

    Have they not said that God himself should come down among the children of men, and take upon him the form of man, and go forth in mighty power upon the face of the earth?

35. 35

    הֲלֹאhave they notגַם־אָמְרוּalso saidכִּיthatיָבִיאHe would bringתְחִיַּתthe resurrection ofהַמֵּתִיםthe deadוְכִיand thatהוּאHe Himselfיִנָּגֵשׂshould be oppressedוְיֵעָנֶה׃and afflicted

    Yea, and have they not said also that he should bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, and that he, himself, should be oppressed and afflicted?
