   And now I, Moroni, proceed to give the record of Jared and his brother.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהֵכִיןhe/KHINpreparedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־הָאֲבָנִיםet-ha/a/va/NIMthe stonesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֶעֱלָהhe/e/LAcarried upאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאֶל־הָהָרel-ha/HARinto the mountוַיֵּרֶדvay/YE/redand came downאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredמִן־הָהָרmin-ha/HARout of the mountוַיָּשֶׂםvay/YA/semand he put forthאֶת־הָאֲבָנִיםet-ha/a/va/NIMthe stonesבַּכֵּלִיםbak/ke/LIMin the vesselsהַמּוּכָנִיםham/mu/kha/NIMwhich were preparedאַחַתa/CHAToneבְּכׇל־קָצֶהbe/KHOL-ka/TSEin each endוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנָתְנוּna/te/NUthey gaveצֹהַרTSO/harlightלַכֵּלִים׃lak/ke/LIMunto the vessels

   For it came to pass after the Lord had prepared the stones which the brother of Jared had carried up into the mount, the brother of Jared came down out of the mount, and he did put forth the stones into the vessels which were prepared, one in each end thereof; and behold, they did give light unto the vessels.

   וְכֵןve/KHENand thusנָתַןna/TANcausedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלָאֲבָנִיםla/a/va/NIMthe stonesלְהָאִירle/ha/IRto shineבַּחֹשֶׁךְba/CHO/shekhin darknessלָתֵתla/TETto giveצֹהַרTSO/harlightלַאֲנָשִׁיםla/a/na/SHIMunto menוְנָשִׁיםve/na/SHIMand womenוְטַףve/TAFand childrenלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatלֹאlonotיַעַבְרוּya/av/RUthey should crossאֶת־הַמַּיִםet-ham/MA/yimthe watersהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMthe greatבַּחֹשֶׁךְ׃ba/CHO/shekhin darkness

   And thus the Lord caused stones to shine in darkness, to give light unto men, women, and children, that they might not cross the great waters in darkness.

   And it came to pass that when they had prepared all manner of food, that thereby they might subsist upon the water, and also food for their flocks and herds, and whatsoever beast or animal or fowl that they should carry with them—and it came to pass that when they had done all these things they got aboard of their vessels or barges, and set forth into the sea, commending themselves unto the Lord their God.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנִהַגni/HAGdroveיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodרוּחַRU/acha windסְעָרָהse/a/RAfuriousעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the faceהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimof the watersאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsunto the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseוַיִּטַּלְטְלוּvay/yit/tal/te/LUand they were tossedעַל־גַּלֵּיal-gal/LEupon the wavesהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָרוּחַ׃ha/RU/achthe wind

   And it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a furious wind blow upon the face of the waters, towards the promised land; and thus they were tossed upon the waves of the sea before the wind.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנִקְבְּרוּnik/be/RUthey were buriedפְּעָמִיםpe/a/MIMtimesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyבִּמְצוּלוֹתbim/tsu/LOTin the depthsהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofגַלֵּיgal/LEwavesהָרִיםha/RIMof mountainsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִשְׁבְּרוּnish/be/RUbrokeעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהַסְּעָרוֹתhas/se/a/ROTthe tempestsהַגְּדוֹלוֹתhag/ge/do/LOTthe greatוְהַנּוֹרָאוֹתve/han/no/ra/OTand terribleאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֵבִיאhe/VIbroughtעֹזozthe fiercenessהָרוּחַ׃ha/RU/achof the wind

   And it came to pass that they were many times buried in the depths of the sea, because of the mountain waves which broke upon them, and also the great and terrible tempests which were caused by the fierceness of the wind.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenנִקְבְּרוּnik/be/RUthey were buriedבַמְּצוּלָהvam/me/tsu/LAin the deepלֹא־יָכְלוּlo-ya/khe/LUcould notהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimthe watersלְהַזִּיקָםle/haz/zi/KAMto hurt themכִּיkiforהָיוּha/YUwereסְפִינוֹתֵיהֶםse/fi/no/te/HEMtheir vesselsאֲטוּמוֹתa/tu/MOTtightכַּקְּעָרָהkak/ke/a/RAlike unto a dishוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהָיוּha/YUwereאֲטוּמוֹתa/tu/MOTtightכְּתֵבַתke/te/VATlike unto the arkנֹחַNO/achof Noahלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenסְבָבוּםse/va/VUMsurrounded themמַיִםMA/yimwatersרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyזָעֲקוּza/a/KUthey criedאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaiunto Adonaiוַיַּעֲלֵםvay/ya/a/LEMand he brought them forthשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the topהַמָּיִם׃ham/MA/yimof the waters

   And it came to pass that when they were buried in the deep there was no water that could hurt them, their vessels being tight like unto a dish, and also they were tight like unto the ark of Noah; therefore when they were encompassed about by many waters they did cry unto the Lord, and he did bring them forth again upon the top of the waters.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notחָדְלָהcha/de/LAceasedהָרוּחַha/RU/achthe windמִנְּשֹׁבmin/ne/SHOVto blowאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsunto the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseבְּעוֹדָםbe/o/DAMwhile they wereעַל־הַמָּיִםal-ham/MA/yimupon the watersוְכֵןve/KHENand thusנִדְחֲפוּnid/cha/FUthey were driven forthלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהָרוּחַ׃ha/RU/achthe wind

   And it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land while they were upon the waters; and thus they were driven forth before the wind.

   וַיְזַמְּרוּvay/zam/me/RUand they sangתְהִלּוֹתte/hil/LOTpraisesלַיהוָהla-Adonaiunto Adonaiאַףafyeaאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredזִמֵּרzim/MERsangתְּהִלּוֹתte/hil/LOTpraisesלַיהוָהla-Adonaiunto Adonaiוַיּוֹדvay/YODand he thankedוַיְהַלֵּלvay/hal/LELand praisedאֶת־יְהוָהet-AdonaiAdonaiכׇּל־הַיּוֹםkol-hay/YOMall the day longוּבְבוֹאu/ve/VOand when cameהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/lathe nightלֹאlonotחָדְלוּcha/de/LUthey ceasedמֵהַלֵּלme/hal/LELfrom praisingאֶת־יְהוָה׃et-AdonaiAdonai

   And they did sing praises unto the Lord; yea, the brother of Jared did sing praises unto the Lord, and he did thank and praise the Lord all the day long; and when the night came, they did not cease to praise the Lord.

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusנִדְחֲפוּnid/cha/FUthey were driven forthוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכְלָהya/khe/LAcouldחַיַּתchay/YATmonsterהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaלְשׇׁבְרָםle/shov/RAMto break themוְלֹאve/LOneitherתַנִּיןtan/NINwhaleלְהַזִּיקָםle/haz/zi/KAMto mar themוַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasלָהֶםla/HEMunto themצֹהַרTSO/harlightתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyבֵּיןbenwhetherמֵעַלme/ALaboveלַמַּיִםlam/MA/yimthe waterבֵּיןbenorמִתַּחַתmit/TA/chatbeneathלַמָּיִם׃lam/MA/yimthe water

    And thus they were driven forth; and no monster of the sea could break them, neither whale that could mar them; and they did have light continually, whether it was above the water or under the water.

    וַיִּנָּהֲגוּvay/yin/na/ha/GUand they were driven forthכֵּןkenthusשְׁלֹשׁshe/LOSHthreeמֵאוֹתme/OThundredוְאַרְבָּעִיםve/ar/ba/IMand fortyוְאַרְבָּעָהve/ar/ba/Aand fourיָמִיםya/MIMdaysעַל־הַמָּיִם׃al-ham/MA/yimupon the water

    And thus they were driven forth, three hundred and forty and four days upon the water.

12. 12

    וַיַּעֲלוּvay/ya/a/LUand they landedעַל־חוֹףal-chofupon the shoreאֶרֶץE/retsof the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenדָּרְכוּda/re/KHUthey setרַגְלֵיהֶםrag/le/HEMtheir feetעַל־חוֹפֵיal-cho/FEupon the shoresאֶרֶץE/retsof the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand bowed themselves downאַפַּיִםap/PA/yimwith their facesאָרְצָהAR/tsato the earthוַיִּכָּנְעוּvay/yik/ka/ne/Uand humbled themselvesלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַיּוֹרִידוּvay/yo/RI/duand shedדִּמְעוֹתdim/OTtearsשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAof joyלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofרֹבrovthe multitudeרַחֲמָיוra/cha/MAYVof his tender merciesעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMupon them

    And they did land upon the shore of the promised land. And when they had set their feet upon the shores of the promised land they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land, and did humble themselves before the Lord, and did shed tears of joy before the Lord, because of the multitude of his tender mercies over them.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהָלְכוּha/le/KHUthey went forthעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the faceהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלַעֲבֹדla/a/VODto tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָה׃et-ha/a/da/MAthe earth

    And it came to pass that they went forth upon the face of the land, and began to till the earth.

14. 14

    וּלְיֶרֶדu/Le/YE/redand Jared hadאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Afourבָנִיםva/NIMsonsוַיִּקָּרְאוּvay/yik/ka/re/Uand they were calledיָקוֹםYA/komJacomוְגִלְגָּהve/Gil/GAand Gilgahוּמָהָהu/MA/haand Mahahוְאוֹרִיהָה׃ve/O/RI/haand Orihah

    And Jared had four sons; and they were called Jacom, and Gilgah, and Mahah, and Orihah.

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredהוֹלִידho/LIDbegatבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹת׃u/va/NOTand daughters

    And the brother of Jared also begat sons and daughters.

16. 16

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasמִסְפַּרmis/PARthe numberרֵעֵיre/Eof the friendsיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredוְאָחִיוve/a/CHIVand his brotherכְּעֶשְׂרִיםke/es/RIMabout twentyוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand twoנְפָשׁוֹתne/fa/SHOTsoulsוַיּוֹלִידוּvay/yo/li/DUand they begatגַּם־הֵםgam-hemalso theyבָּנִיםba/NIMsonsוּבָנוֹתu/va/NOTand daughtersבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeבֹּאָםbo/AMthey cameאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsunto the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseוְלָכֵןve/la/KHENand thereforeהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלִרְבּוֹת׃lir/BOTto be many

    And the friends of Jared and his brother were in number about twenty and two souls; and they also begat sons and daughters before they came to the promised land; and therefore they began to be many.

17. 17

    וַיְלֻמְּדוּvay/lum/me/DUand they were taughtלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto walkבַּעֲנָוָהba/a/na/VAhumblyלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלֻמְּדוּlum/me/DUwere taughtמִמָּרוֹם׃mim/ma/ROMfrom on high

    And they were taught to walk humbly before the Lord; and they were also taught from on high.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלְהִתְפַּשֵּׁטle/hit/pash/SHETto spreadעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEupon the faceהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landוְלִרְבּוֹתve/lir/BOTand to multiplyוְלַעֲבֹדve/la/a/VODand to tillאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהet-ha/a/da/MAthe earthוַיֶּחֶזְקוּvay/ye/chez/KUand they waxed strongבָאָרֶץ׃va/A/retsin the land

    And it came to pass that they began to spread upon the face of the land, and to multiply and to till the earth; and they did wax strong in the land.

19. 19

    וַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland beganאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredלִזְקֹןliz/KONto be oldוַיַּרְאvay/YARand he sawכִּיkithatקָרוֹבka/ROVsoonיֵרֵדye/REDhe must go downאֶל־הַקָּבֶרel-hak/KA/verto the graveוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֶל־יֶרֶדel-YE/redto Jaredנַקְהִילָהnak/hi/LAlet us gather togetherאֶת־עַמֵּנוּet-am/ME/nuour peopleלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנִסְפֹּרnis/PORwe may numberאוֹתָםo/TAMthemלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנֵדַעne/DAwe may knowמַה־יִּשְׁאֲלוּma-yish/a/LUwhat they will desireמֵאִתָּנוּme/it/TA/nuof usבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeנֵרֵדne/REDwe go downאֶל־קִבְרוֹתֵינוּ׃el-kiv/ro/te/NUto our graves

    And the brother of Jared began to be old, and saw that he must soon go down to the grave; wherefore he said unto Jared: Let us gather together our people that we may number them, that we may know of them what they will desire of us before we go down to our graves.

20. 20

    וַיִּקָּהֲלוּvay/yik/ka/ha/LUand were gatheredהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכֵּןkenaccordinglyוַיְהִיvay/HIand wasמִסְפַּרmis/PARthe numberבְּנֵיbe/NEof the sons ofוּבְנוֹתu/ve/NOTand the daughtersאֲחִיa/CHIof the brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredעֶשְׂרִיםes/RIMtwentyוּשְׁתַּיִםush/TA/yimand twoנְפָשׁוֹתne/fa/SHOTsoulsוּמִסְפַּרu/mis/PARand the numberבְּנֵיbe/NEof the sons ofוּבְנוֹתu/ve/NOTand the daughtersיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredשְׁתֵּיםshtemtwoעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenכִּיkiforאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Afourבָנִיםva/NIMsonsהָיוּha/YUwereלוֹ׃loto him

    And accordingly the people were gathered together. Now the number of the sons and the daughters of the brother of Jared were twenty and two souls; and the number of sons and daughters of Jared were twelve, he having four sons.

21. 21

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatסָפְרוּsa/fe/RUthey numberedאֶת־עַמָּםet-am/MAMtheir peopleוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatסְפָרוּםse/fa/RUMthey numbered themשָׁאֲלוּsha/a/LUthey desiredמֵהֶםme/HEMof themאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיַחְפְּצוּyach/pe/TSUthey wouldכִּיkithatיַעֲשׂוּya/a/SUthey would doבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeיֵרְדוּyer/DUthey went downאֶל־קִבְרוֹתֵיהֶם׃el-kiv/ro/te/HEMto their graves

    And it came to pass that they did number their people; and after that they had numbered them, they did desire of them the things which they would that they should do before they went down to their graves.

22. 22

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁאֲלוּsha/a/LUdesiredהָעָםha/AMthe peopleמֵאִתָּםme/it/TAMof themלִמְשֹׁחַlim/SHO/achto anointאֶחָדe/CHADoneמִבְּנֵיהֶםmib/be/ne/HEMof their sonsלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhto be a kingעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMover them

    And it came to pass that the people desired of them that they should anoint one of their sons to be a king over them.

23. 23

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdרַעragrievousהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingבְּעֵינֵיהֶםbe/e/ne/HEMin their eyesוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲחִיa/CHIthe brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themאָכֵןa/KHENsurelyיוֹבִילyo/VILleadsהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלַשֶּׁבִי׃lash/SHE/viinto captivity

    And now behold, this was grievous unto them. And the brother of Jared said unto them: Surely this thing leadeth into captivity.

24. 24

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיֶרֶדYE/redJaredאֶל־אָחִיוel-a/CHIVunto his brotherהַנַּחhan/NACHsufferלָהֶםla/HEMthemוְיִהְיֶהve/yih/YEand let there beלָהֶםla/HEMto themמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themבַּחֲרוּba/cha/RUchooseלָכֶםla/KHEMfor yourselvesמִבָּנֵינוּmib/ba/NE/nufrom among our sonsמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHEReven whomתַּחְפְּצוּ׃tach/pe/TSUyou will

    But Jared said unto his brother: Suffer them that they may have a king. And therefore he said unto them: Choose ye out from among our sons a king, even whom ye will.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבָחֲרוּva/cha/RUthey choseאֶת־בְּכוֹרet-be/KHORthe firstbornאֲחִיa/CHIof the brotherיֶרֶדYE/redof Jaredוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his name wasפָּגָגPA/gagPagagוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatמֵאֵןme/ENhe refusedוְלֹאve/LOand notאָבָהa/VAwouldלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמַלְכָּםmal/KAMtheir kingוַיַּחְפְּצוּvay/yach/pe/TSUand wouldהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכִּיkithatיְאַלְּצֵהוּye/al/le/tse/HUshould constrain himאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherאַךְakhbutלֹאlonotאָבָהa/VAwouldאָבִיוa/VIVhis fatherוַיְצַוvay/TSAVand he commandedאוֹתָםo/TAMthemלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInot toאַלֵּץal/LETSconstrainאִישׁishany manלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמַלְכָּם׃mal/KAMtheir king

    And it came to pass that they chose even the firstborn of the brother of Jared; and his name was Pagag. And it came to pass that he refused and would not be their king. And the people would that his father should constrain him, but his father would not; and he commanded them that they should constrain no man to be their king.

26. 26

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבָחֲרוּva/cha/RUthey choseאֶת־כׇּל־אֲחֵיet-kol-a/CHEall the brothersפָגָגFA/gagof Pagagוְלֹאve/LOand notאָבוּ׃a/VUthey would

    And it came to pass that they chose all the brothers of Pagag, and they would not.

27. 27

    And it came to pass that neither would the sons of Jared, even all save it were one; and Orihah was anointed to be king over the people.

    וַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland beganלִמְלֹךְlim/LOKHto reignוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland beganהָעָםha/AMthe peopleלְהַצְלִיחַle/hats/LI/achto prosperוַיַּעֲשִׁירוּvay/ya/a/SHI/ruand they became richמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyמְאֹד׃me/ODexceedingly

    And he began to reign, and the people began to prosper; and they became exceedingly rich.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־מֵתki-metthat diedיֶרֶדYE/redJaredוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאָחִיו׃a/CHIVhis brother

    And it came to pass that Jared died, and his brother also.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהָלַךְha/LAKHwalkedאוֹרִיהָהO/RI/haOrihahבַּעֲנָוָהba/a/na/VAhumblyלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַיִּזְכֹּרvay/yiz/KORand rememberedאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהַגְּדוֹלִיםhag/ge/do/LIMhow greatאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAwhich didיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלְאָבִיוle/a/VIVfor his fatherוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלִמֵּדlim/MEDtaughtאֶת־עַמּוֹet-am/MOhis peopleאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהַגְּדוֹלִיםhag/ge/do/LIMhow greatאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAwhich didיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַאֲבוֹתֵיהֶם׃la/a/vo/te/HEMfor their fathers

    And it came to pass that Orihah did walk humbly before the Lord, and did remember how great things the Lord had done for his father, and also taught his people how great things the Lord had done for their fathers.
