   And now it came to pass that I received an epistle from Ammoron, the king, stating that if I would deliver up those prisoners of war whom we had taken that he would deliver up the city of Antiparah unto us.

   But I sent an epistle unto the king, that we were sure our forces were sufficient to take the city of Antiparah by our force; and by delivering up the prisoners for that city we should suppose ourselves unwise, and that we would only deliver up our prisoners on exchange.

   וַיְמָאֵןvay/ma/ENand refusedעַמּוֹרוֹןAM/mo/ronAmmoronבְּאִגַּרְתִּיbe/ig/gar/TImy epistleכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notאָבָהa/VAhe wouldלְהָמִירle/ha/MIRto exchangeשְׁבוּיִיםshe/vu/YIMprisonersלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהֲכִינוֹנוּha/khi/no/NUwe made preparationsלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstעִירirthe cityאַנְטִיפָּרָה׃An/ti/PA/raof Antiparah

   And Ammoron refused mine epistle, for he would not exchange prisoners; therefore we began to make preparations to go against the city of Antiparah.

   וַיַּעַזְבוּvay/ya/az/VUbut leftאַנְשֵׁיan/SHEthe peopleאַנְטִיפָּרָהAn/ti/PA/raof Antiparahאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityוַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand fledאֶל־עָרֵיהֶםel-a/re/HEMto their citiesהָאֲחֵרוֹתha/a/che/ROTthe otherאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּיָדָםbe/ya/DAMwere in their handלְבַצְּרָןle/vats/tse/RANto fortify themוְכֵןve/KHENand thusנָפְלָהna/fe/LAfellעִירirthe cityאַנְטִיפָּרָהAn/ti/PA/raof Antiparahבְּיָדֵינוּ׃be/ya/DE/nuinto our hands

   But the people of Antiparah did leave the city, and fled to their other cities, which they had possession of, to fortify them; and thus the city of Antiparah fell into our hands.

   And thus ended the twenty and eighth year of the reign of the judges.

   And it came to pass that in the commencement of the twenty and ninth year, we received a supply of provisions, and also an addition to our army, from the land of Zarahemla, and from the land round about, to the number of six thousand men, besides sixty of the sons of the Ammonites who had come to join their brethren, my little band of two thousand. And now behold, we were strong, yea, and we had also plenty of provisions brought unto us.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatחָפַצְנוּcha/fats/NUwe were desirousלַעֲרֹךְla/a/ROKHto wageמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAa battleעִם־הַצָּבָאim-hats/tsa/VAwith the armyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֻצַּבhuts/TSAVwas placedלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto protectאֶת־עִירet-irthe cityכּוּמֵנִי׃KU/me/niof Cumeni

   And it came to pass that it was our desire to wage a battle with the army which was placed to protect the city Cumeni.

   And now behold, I will show unto you that we soon accomplished our desire; yea, with our strong force, or with a part of our strong force, we did surround, by night, the city Cumeni, a little before they were to receive a supply of provisions.

   And it came to pass that we did camp round about the city for many nights; but we did sleep upon our swords, and keep guards, that the Lamanites could not come upon us by night and slay us, which they attempted many times; but as many times as they attempted this their blood was spilt.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהִגִּיעָהhig/gi/Aarrivedצֵידָתָםtse/da/TAMtheir provisionsוַיַּעַמְדוּvay/ya/am/DUand they were aboutלָבוֹאla/VOto enterאֶל־הָעִירel-ha/IRinto the cityבַּלָּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand weתַּחַתTA/chatinstead ofהֱיוֹתֵנוּhe/yo/TE/nubeingלָמָנִיםLa/ma/NIMLamanitesהָיִינוּha/YI/nuwereנֶפִיִּיםNe/fiy/YIMNephitesלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeלָקַחְנוּla/KACH/nuwe tookאוֹתָםo/TAMthemוְאֶת־צֵידָתָם׃ve/ET-tse/da/TAMand their provisions

    At length their provisions did arrive, and they were about to enter the city by night. And we, instead of being Lamanites, were Nephites; therefore, we did take them and their provisions.

    וְגַם־כִּיve/GAM-kiand notwithstandingנִכְרְתוּnikh/re/TUwere cut offהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesמִמַּשְׁעָנָםmim/mash/a/NAMfrom their supportבַּדֶּרֶךְbad/DE/rekhin the wayהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisעוֹדodstillאִמְּצוּim/me/TSUthey strengthenedלֵבlevheartלְהַחֲזִיקle/ha/cha/ZIKto maintainבָּעִירba/IRthe cityלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיָהha/YAit wasנָכוֹןna/KHONexpedientלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto takeאֶת־הַצֵּידָהet-hats/tse/DAthe provisionsהַהִיאha/HIthatוּלְשׇׁלְחָהּu/le/shol/CHAand to send itלִיהוּדָהlI/hu/DAto Judeaוְאֶת־שְׁבוּיֵינוּve/ET-she/vu/ye/NUand our prisonersלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    And notwithstanding the Lamanites being cut off from their support after this manner, they were still determined to maintain the city; therefore it became expedient that we should take those provisions and send them to Judea, and our prisoners to the land of Zarahemla.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassedיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand beganהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלְאַבֵּדle/ab/BEDto loseכׇּל־תִּקְוָהkol-tik/VAall hopeלְעֶזְרָהle/ez/RAof succorלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeנָתְנוּna/te/NUthey yielded upאֶת־הָעִירet-ha/IRthe cityבְּיָדֵינוּbe/ya/DE/nuinto our handsוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהִשַּׂגְנוּhis/sag/NUwe accomplishedאֶת־מְזִמָּתֵנוּet-me/zim/ma/te/NUour designבְּלׇכְדֵנוּbe/lokh/de/NUin takingאֶת־עִירet-irthe cityכּוּמֵנִי׃KU/me/niof Cumeni

    And it came to pass that not many days had passed away before the Lamanites began to lose all hopes of succor; therefore they yielded up the city unto our hands; and thus we had accomplished our designs in obtaining the city Cumeni.

13. 13

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatרַבּוּrab/BUwere numerousשְׁבוּיֵינוּshe/vu/ye/NUour prisonersמְאֹדme/ODsoעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatגַּם־כִּיgam-kinotwithstandingרַבravgreatמִסְפָּרֵנוּmis/pa/re/NUour numberאֻלַּצְנוּul/lats/NUwe were obligedלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto actבְּכׇל־כֹּחֵנוּbe/KHOL-ko/che/NUwith all our forceלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemאוֹoorלַהֲמִיתָם׃la/ha/mi/TAMto put them to death

    But it came to pass that our prisoners were so numerous that, notwithstanding the enormity of our numbers, we were obliged to employ all our force to keep them, or to put them to death.

    כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהִתְפָּרְצוּhit/pa/re/TSUthey would break outבַּהֲמוֹנֵיהֶםba/ha/mo/ne/HEMin their multitudesוַיִּלָּחֲמוּvay/yil/la/cha/MUand would fightבַּאֲבָנִיםba/a/va/NIMwith stonesוּבְמַקְלוֹתu/ve/mak/LOTand with clubsאוֹoorבְּכׇל־דָּבָרbe/KHOL-da/VARwith any thingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָכְלוּya/khe/LUthey couldלָשֵׂאתla/SETto take upבִּידֵיהֶםbi/de/HEMin their handsעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהָרַגְנוּha/rag/NUwe slewלְמַעְלָהle/MA/laupwardsמֵאַלְפַּיִםme/al/PA/yimof two thousandמֵהֶםme/HEMof themאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatנָתְנוּna/te/NUthey gave upאֶת־נַפְשָׁםet-naf/SHAMthemselvesכִּשְׁבוּיֵיkish/vu/YEas prisonersמִלְחָמָה׃mil/cha/MAof war

    For behold, they would break out in great numbers, and would fight with stones, and with clubs, or whatsoever thing they could get into their hands, insomuch that we did slay upwards of two thousand of them after they had surrendered themselves prisoners of war.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיָהha/YAit wasצֹרֶךְTSO/rekhnecessaryלָנוּLA/nufor usלַהֲמִיתָםla/ha/mi/TAMto put them to deathאוֹoorלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto guardעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemבְּחֶרֶבbe/CHE/revwith a swordשְׁלוּפָהshe/lu/FAdrawnעַד־אֶרֶץad-E/retsunto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְגַםve/GAMand alsoצֵידָתֵנוּtse/da/te/NUour provisionsלֹא־הָיְתָהlo-ha/ye/TAwas notכִּי־אִםki-imbutמַסְפֶּקֶתmas/PE/ketsufficientלְעַמֵּנוּle/am/ME/nufor our peopleעַל־אֲשֶׁרal-a/SHERnotwithstanding that whichלָקַחְנוּla/KACH/nuwe tookמִן־הַלָּמָנִים׃min-Hal/la/ma/NIMfrom the Lamanites

    Therefore it became expedient for us, that we should put an end to their lives, or guard them, sword in hand, down to the land of Zarahemla; and also our provisions were not any more than sufficient for our own people, notwithstanding that which we had taken from the Lamanites.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבַּמָּצוֹקbam/ma/TSOKin the distressהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisהָיָהha/YAit becameהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe matterקָשֶׁהka/SHEseriousמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyלַחֲרֹץla/cha/ROTSto determineבִּדְבַרbid/VARconcerningשְׁבוּיֵיshe/vu/YEthe prisonersהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAof warהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseאַךְakhneverthelessחָרַצְנוּcha/rats/NUwe resolvedלְשׇׁלְחָםle/shol/CHAMto send themלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבָּחַרְנוּba/char/NUwe selectedחֵלֶקCHE/leka partמֵאֲנָשֵׁינוּme/a/na/SHE/nuof our menוַנַּפְקִידֵםvan/naf/ki/DEMand gave them chargeעַל־שְׁבוּיֵינוּal-she/vu/ye/NUover our prisonersלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    And now, in those critical circumstances, it became a very serious matter to determine concerning these prisoners of war; nevertheless, we did resolve to send them down to the land of Zarahemla; therefore we selected a part of our men, and gave them charge over our prisoners to go down to the land of Zarahemla.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁבוּSHA/vuthey returnedמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the morrowוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotשָׁאַלְנוּםsha/al/NUMwe inquired of themעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARconcerningהַשְּׁבוּיִיםhash/she/vu/YIMthe prisonersכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuwere upon usוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedבְּעִתָּםbe/it/TAMin seasonלְהַצִּילֵנוּle/hats/tsi/LE/nuto save usמִנְּפֹלmin/ne/FOLfrom fallingבִּידֵיהֶםbi/de/HEMinto their handsכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentעַמּוֹרוֹןAM/mo/ronAmmoronלְעֶזְרָתָםle/ez/ra/TAMto their supportצֵידָהtse/DAprovisionsחֲדָשָׁהcha/da/SHAnewוְגַםve/GAMand alsoצָבָאtsa/VAan armyרַב׃ravnumerous

    But it came to pass that on the morrow they did return. And now behold, we did not inquire of them concerning the prisoners; for behold, the Lamanites were upon us, and they returned in season to save us from falling into their hands. For behold, Ammoron had sent to their support a new supply of provisions and also a numerous army of men.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבָּאוּBA/ucameהָאֲנָשִׁיםha/a/na/SHIMthe menהָהֵםha/HEMthoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomשָׁלַחְנוּsha/lach/NUwe sentעִם־הַשְּׁבוּיִיםim-hash/she/vu/YIMwith the prisonersבְּעִתָּםbe/it/TAMin seasonלַעֲצֹרla/a/TSORto checkבָּםbamthemבְּעוֹדָםbe/o/DAMas they wereעֹמְדִיםom/DIMaboutלִגְבֹּרlig/BORto overpowerעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuus

    And it came to pass that those men whom we sent with the prisoners did arrive in season to check them, as they were about to overpower us.

    אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdגְּדוּדge/DUDthe bandאַלְפַּיal/PAYof my two thousandוְשִׁשִּׁיםve/shish/SHIMand sixtyהַקָּטָןhak/ka/TANlittleנִלְחֲמוּnil/cha/MUfoughtבְּיֶתֶרbe/YE/terwith exceedingעֹזozmightאַףafyeaעָמְדוּa/me/DUthey stoodאֵיתָןe/TANfirmלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוַיָּמִיתוּvay/ya/MI/tuand put to deathאֶת־כׇּל־הַקָּמִיםet-kol-hak/ka/MIMall who rose upעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMagainst them

    But behold, my little band of two thousand and sixty fought most desperately; yea, they were firm before the Lamanites, and did administer death unto all those who opposed them.

    And as the remainder of our army were about to give way before the Lamanites, behold, those two thousand and sixty were firm and undaunted.

    Yea, and they did obey and observe to perform every word of command with exactness; yea, and even according to their faith it was done unto them; and I did remember the words which they said unto me that their mothers had taught them.

22. 22

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָיוּha/YUit wasאֵלֶּהEL/letheseבָּנַיba/NAYmy sonsוְהָאֲנָשִׁיםve/ha/a/na/SHIMand the menהָהֵםha/HEMthoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִבְחֲרוּniv/cha/RUhad been selectedלְהוֹלִיךְle/ho/LIKHto conveyאֶת־הַשְּׁבוּיִיםet-hash/she/vu/YIMthe prisonersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomלָהֶםla/HEMto themאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweחַבְנוּchav/NUoweאֶת־הַתְּשׁוּעָהet-hat/te/shu/Athe victoryהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAthe greatהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisכִּיkiforהֵםhemtheyהִכּוּhik/KUbeatאֶת־הַלָּמָנִיםet-Hal/la/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeנִדְּחוּnid/de/CHUwere drivenאָחוֹרa/CHORbackאֶל־עִירel-irto the cityמַנְטִי׃MAN/tiof Manti

    And now behold, it was these my sons, and those men who had been selected to convey the prisoners, to whom we owe this great victory; for it was they who did beat the Lamanites; therefore they were driven back to the city of Manti.

    וַנַּחֲזִיקvan/na/cha/ZIKand we retainedבְּעִירֵנוּbe/i/re/NUour cityכּוּמֵנִיKU/me/niCumeniוְלֹאve/LOand notנִשְׁמַדְנוּnish/MAD/nuwere we destroyedכֻלָּנוּkhul/LA/nuall of usלְפִי־חֶרֶבle/FI-CHE/revby the swordאַף־כִּיaf-kineverthelessסָבַלְנוּsa/val/NUwe sufferedאֲבֵדָהa/ve/DAa lossגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

    And we retained our city Cumeni, and were not all destroyed by the sword; nevertheless, we had suffered great loss.

24. 24

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterנוּסnusthe fleeingהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesוָאֲצַוva/a/TSAVand I commandedמַהֵרma/HERspeedilyלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto takeאֶת־אֲנָשַׁיet-a/na/SHAYmy menהַפְּצוּעִיםhap/pe/tsu/IMthe woundedמִתּוֹךְmit/TOKHfrom amongהַמֵּתִיםham/me/TIMthe deadוָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I badeלַחֲבֹשׁla/cha/VOSHto bind upאֶת־פִּצְעֵיהֶם׃et-pits/e/HEMtheir wounds

    And it came to pass that after the Lamanites had fled, I immediately gave orders that my men who had been wounded should be taken from among the dead, and caused that their wounds should be dressed.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהָיוּha/YUthere wereמָאתַיִםma/TA/yimtwo hundredמֵאַלְפַּיme/al/PAYout of my two thousandוְשִׁשִּׁיםve/shish/SHIMand sixtyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהִתְעַלְּפוּhit/al/le/FUfaintedמֵאׇבְדַןme/ov/DANbecause of the lossדָּםdamof bloodאַךְakhneverthelessכְּחֶסֶדke/CHE/sedaccording to the goodnessאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוּלְתִמְהוֹנֵנוּu/le/tim/ho/ne/NUand to our astonishmentהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְשִׂמְחַתle/sim/CHATthe joyכׇּל־צְבָאֵנוּkol-tse/va/e/NUof our whole armyלֹא־מֵתlo-metdid not dieאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵהֶםme/HEMof themהֵןhenyeaוְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand there was notאֶחָדe/CHADoneבֵּינֵיהֶםbe/ne/HEMamong themאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹאlonotקִבֵּלkib/BELreceivedפְּצָעִיםpe/tsa/IMwoundsרַבִּים׃rab/BIMmany

    And it came to pass that there were two hundred, out of my two thousand and sixty, who had fainted because of the loss of blood; nevertheless, according to the goodness of God, and to our great astonishment, and also the joy of our whole army, there was not one soul of them who did perish; yea, and neither was there one soul among them who had not received many wounds.

26. 26

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasהַצָּלָתָםhats/tsa/la/TAMtheir preservationלְפֶלֶאle/FE/lea wonderלְכׇל־צְבָאֵנוּle/KHOL-tse/va/e/NUto our whole armyאַףafyeaכִּיkithatנִצְּלוּnits/tse/LUthey were sparedבְּעוֹדbe/ODwhileאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandמֵאַחֵינוּme/a/CHE/nuof our brethrenנֶהֶרְגוּne/her/GUwere slainוּבְצֶדֶקu/ve/TSE/dekand justlyנִתֵּןnit/TENwe ascribeזֹאתzotthisלְכֹחַle/KHO/achto the powerאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godהַנִּפְלָאhan/nif/LAthe miraculousבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithהָרַבָּהha/rab/BAexceedingבַּאֲשֶׁרba/a/SHERin that whichלֻמְּדוּlum/me/DUthey had been taughtלְהַאֲמִיןle/ha/a/MINto believeכִּי־יֵשׁki-yeshthat there wasאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMa Godצַדִּיקtsad/DIKjustוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרve/KHOL-a/SHERand whosoeverאֵיןenis notלִבּוֹlib/BOhis heartתָּלוּיta/LUYhangingיִנָּצֵלyin/na/TSELshould be preservedבְּכֹחוֹbe/kho/CHOby his powerהַנִּפְלָא׃han/nif/LAthe marvelous

    And now, their preservation was astonishing to our whole army, yea, that they should be spared while there was a thousand of our brethren who were slain. And we do justly ascribe it to the miraculous power of God, because of their exceeding faith in that which they had been taught to believe—that there was a just God, and whosoever did not doubt, that they should be preserved by his marvelous power.

27. 27

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasאֱמוּנַתe/mu/NATthe faithאֵלֶּהEL/leof theseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof whomדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMof themצְעִירִיםtse/i/RIMyoungהֵםhemthey areוְדַעְתָּםve/da/TAMand their mindאֵיתָנָהe/ta/NAis firmוְהֵםve/HEMand theyבּוֹטְחִיםbot/CHIMtrustבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMin Godתָּמִיד׃ta/MIDcontinually

    Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually.

28. 28

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatכִּלְכַּלְנוּkil/kal/NUwe took careכָּכָהKA/khathusבַּאֲנָשֵׁינוּba/a/na/SHE/nuour menהַפְּצוּעִיםhap/pe/tsu/IMthe woundedוַנִּקְבֹּרvan/nik/BORand buriedאֶת־מֵתֵינוּet-me/te/NUour deadוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־מֵתֵיet-me/TEthe deadהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyהָיוּha/YUwereהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdשָׁאַלְנוּsha/al/NUwe inquiredאֶת־גִּדet-Gidof Gidעַל־דְּבַרal-de/VARconcerningהַשְּׁבוּיִיםhash/she/vu/YIMthe prisonersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey startedלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goעִמָּםim/MAMwith themלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    And now it came to pass that after we had thus taken care of our wounded men, and had buried our dead and also the dead of the Lamanites, who were many, behold, we did inquire of Gid concerning the prisoners whom they had started to go down to the land of Zarahemla with.

29. 29

    וְגִדve/GIDand Gidהָיָהha/YAwasשַׂרsarthe captainהַגְּדוּדhag/ge/DUDof the bandאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהֻפְקַדhuf/KADwas appointedלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto guardעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthemבְּלֶכְתָּםbe/lekh/TAMin their goingלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    Now Gid was the chief captain over the band who was appointed to guard them down to the land.

30. 30

    וְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMare the wordsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָמַרa/MARsaidאֵלַיe/LAYunto meגִּדGidGidהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהַחִלּוֹנוּha/chil/lo/NUwe startedלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto goלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaעִם־שְׁבוּיֵינוּim-she/vu/ye/NUwith our prisonersוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatפָּגַשְׁנוּpa/gash/NUwe metאֶת־מְרַגְּלֵיet-me/rag/ge/LEthe spiesצְבָאֵנוּtse/va/e/NUof our armiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִשְׁלְחוּnish/le/CHUhad been sent outלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto watchאֶת־מַחֲנֵהet-ma/cha/NEthe campהַלָּמָנִים׃hal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanites

    And now, these are the words which Gid said unto me: Behold, we did start to go down to the land of Zarahemla with our prisoners. And it came to pass that we did meet the spies of our armies, who had been sent out to watch the camp of the Lamanites.

31. 31

    וַיִּצְעֲקוּvay/yits/a/KUand they criedאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nuunto usלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdצִבְאוֹתtsiv/OTthe armiesהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesצֹעֲדִיםtso/a/DIMare marchingאֶל־עִירel-irtowards the cityכּוּמֵנִיKU/me/niof Cumeniוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdיִפְּלוּyip/pe/LUthey will fallעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themהֵןhenyeaוְיַשְׁמִידוּve/yash/MI/duand will destroyאֶת־עַמֵּנוּ׃et-am/ME/nuour people

    And they cried unto us, saying—Behold, the armies of the Lamanites are marching towards the city of Cumeni; and behold, they will fall upon them, yea, and will destroy our people.

32. 32

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uheardשְׁבוּיֵינוּshe/vu/ye/NUour prisonersאֶת־צַעֲקוֹתֵיהֶםet-tsa/a/ko/te/HEMtheir criesוַיִּתְאַמְּצוּvay/yit/am/me/TSUand they took courageוַיָּקוּמוּvay/ya/KU/muand they rose upעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuagainst usבִּמְרִי׃bim/RIin rebellion

    And it came to pass that our prisoners did hear their cries, which caused them to take courage; and they did rise up in rebellion against us.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofמִרְיָםmir/YAMtheir rebellionצִוִּינוּtsiv/vi/NUwe commandedכִּיkithatתָבוֹאta/VOshould comeחַרְבֵּנוּchar/be/NUour swordעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatרָצוּRA/tsuthey ranכַּאֲגֻדָּהka/a/gud/DAas a bodyאֶחָתe/CHAToneעַל־חַרְבוֹתֵינוּal-char/vo/te/NUupon our swordsוּבָזֶהu/va/ZEand in thisנֶהֶרְגוּne/her/GUwere slainרֻבָּםrub/BAMthe greater number of themוְהַנּוֹתָרִיםve/han/no/ta/RIMand the remainderפָּרְצוּpa/re/TSUbroke throughוַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand fledמִפָּנֵינוּ׃mip/pa/NE/nufrom us

    And it came to pass because of their rebellion we did cause that our swords should come upon them. And it came to pass that they did in a body run upon our swords, in the which, the greater number of them were slain; and the remainder of them broke through and fled from us.

34. 34

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenנָסוּNA/suthey fledוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכֹלְנוּya/khol/NUcould weלְהַשִּׂיגָםle/has/si/GAMto overtake themנָסַעְנוּna/sa/NUwe tookמַסָּעֵנוּmas/sa/e/NUour marchבִּמְהֵרָהbim/he/RAwith speedאֶל־עִירel-irtowards the cityכּוּמֵנִיKU/me/niof Cumeniוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdהִגַּעְנוּhig/ga/NUwe arrivedבְּעִתּוֹbe/it/TOin timeלַעֲזֹרla/a/ZORto assistלַאֲחֵינוּla/a/che/NUour brethrenלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto preserveאֶת־הָעִיר׃et-ha/IRthe city

    And behold, when they had fled and we could not overtake them, we took our march with speed towards the city Cumeni; and behold, we did arrive in time that we might assist our brethren in preserving the city.

35. 35

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdנִצַּלְנוּnits/TSAL/nuwe were deliveredעוֹדodagainמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handאוֹיְבֵינוּoy/VE/nuof our enemiesוּמְבֹרָךְu/me/vo/RAKHand blessed isשֵׁםshemthe nameאֱלֹהֵינוּe/lo/HE/nuof our Godכִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהוּאhuit is heאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהִצִּילָנוּhits/tsi/LA/nudelivered usאַףafyeaהוּאhuheאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAdidלָנוּLA/nuunto usאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe thingהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe greatהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And behold, we are again delivered out of the hands of our enemies. And blessed is the name of our God; for behold, it is he that has delivered us; yea, that has done this great thing for us.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenשָׁמַעְתִּיsha/MA/tiheardאֲנִיa/NIIהֵילָמָןHE/la/manHelamanאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe wordsגִדGidof Gidהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוָאֶמָּלֵאva/em/ma/LEI was filledשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAwith joyרַבָּהrab/BAgreatמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofחֶסֶדCHE/sedthe goodnessאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godבְּהַצִּילוֹbe/hats/tsi/LOin preservingאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuusלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat notהִשָּׁמֵדhish/sha/MEDmight be destroyedכֻּלָּנוּkul/LA/nuall of usהֵןhenyeaוַאֲנִיva/a/NIand Iבוֹטֵחַvo/TE/achtrustכִּיkithatנַפְשׁוֹתnaf/SHOTthe soulsהַנֶּהֱרָגִיםhan/ne/he/ra/GIMof those who have been slainבָּאוּBA/uenteredאֶל־מְנוּחַתel-me/nu/CHATinto the restאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMof their God

    Now it came to pass that when I, Helaman, had heard these words of Gid, I was filled with exceeding joy because of the goodness of God in preserving us, that we might not all perish; yea, and I trust that the souls of them who have been slain have entered into the rest of their God.
