   And it came to pass that as many as would not hearken to the words of Helaman and his brethren were gathered together against their brethren.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdחָרָהcha/RAburnedאַפָּםap/PAMtheir angerמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהִתְאַמְּצוּhit/am/me/TSUthey were determinedלַהֲרֹגla/ha/ROGto slayאוֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

   And now behold, they were exceedingly wroth, insomuch that they were determined to slay them.

   וְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand the leaderהַקֹּצְפִיםhak/kots/FIMof those who were wrothעַל־אֲחֵיהֶםal-a/che/HEMagainst their brethrenאִישׁisha manגָּדוֹלga/DOLlargeוְחָזָקve/cha/ZAKand strongהָיָהha/YAwasוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his name wasאַמָלִיקְיָה׃A/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiah

   Now the leader of those who were wroth against their brethren was a large and a strong man; and his name was Amalickiah.

   And Amalickiah was desirous to be a king; and those people who were wroth were also desirous that he should be their king; and they were the greater part of them the lower judges of the land, and they were seeking for power.

   And they had been led by the flatteries of Amalickiah, that if they would support him and establish him to be their king that he would make them rulers over the people.

   Thus they were led away by Amalickiah to dissensions, notwithstanding the preaching of Helaman and his brethren, yea, notwithstanding their exceedingly great care over the church, for they were high priests over the church.

   And there were many in the church who believed in the flattering words of Amalickiah, therefore they dissented even from the church; and thus were the affairs of the people of Nephi exceedingly precarious and dangerous, notwithstanding their great victory which they had had over the Lamanites, and their great rejoicings which they had had because of their deliverance by the hand of the Lord.

   Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea, how quick to do iniquity, and to be led away by the evil one.

   וְגַםve/GAMand alsoנִרְאֶהnir/Ewe seeאֶת־הָרָעָהet-ha/ra/Athe wickednessהַגְּדוֹלָהhag/ge/do/LAgreatאֲשֶׁר־יוּכַלa/SHER-yu/KHALwhich canאִישׁisha manרָשָׁעra/SHAwickedאֶחָדe/CHADoneלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongבְּנֵיbe/NEthe childrenהָאָדָם׃ha/a/DAMof men

   Yea, and we also see the great wickedness one very wicked man can cause to take place among the children of men.

    Yea, we see that Amalickiah, because he was a man of cunning device and a man of many flattering words, that he led away the hearts of many people to do wickedly; yea, and to seek to destroy the church of God, and to destroy the foundation of liberty which God had granted unto them, or which blessing God had sent upon the face of the land for the righteous’ sake.

    And now it came to pass that when Moroni, who was the chief commander of the armies of the Nephites, had heard of these dissensions, he was angry with Amalickiah.

    And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole.

    And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he called it the title of liberty) and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land—

    כִּי־כֵןki-khenfor thusנִקְרְאוּnik/re/Uthey were calledכׇּל־מַאֲמִינֵיkol-ma/a/mi/NEall the believers inהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristהָאֲמִתִּיִּיםha/a/mit/tiy/YIMthe trueאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיוּha/YUwereבִּקְהִלַּתbik/hil/LATin the churchאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godבְּפִיbe/FIby the mouthאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof those whoלֹא־הָיוּlo-ha/YUwere notבַּקְּהִלָּה׃bak/ke/hil/LAin the church

    For thus were all the true believers of Christ, who belonged to the church of God, called by those who did not belong to the church.

    וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand those whoהָיוּha/YUwereבַּקְּהִלָּהbak/ke/hil/LAin the churchהָיוּha/YUwereנֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMfaithfulאַףafyeaכׇּל־מַאֲמִינֵיkol-ma/a/mi/NEall the believers inהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristהָאֲמִתִּיִּיםha/a/mit/tiy/YIMthe trueנָשְׂאוּna/se/Utookבְשִׂמְחָהve/sim/CHAwith joyאֶת־שֵׁםet-shemthe nameהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof ChristאוֹoorמְשִׁיחִיִּיםMe/shi/chiy/YIMChristiansכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasנִקְרְאוּnik/re/Uthey were calledבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir faithבַּמָּשִׁיחַbam/Ma/SHI/achin Christאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיָבוֹא׃ya/VOshall come

    And those who did belong to the church were faithful; yea, all those who were true believers in Christ took upon them, gladly, the name of Christ, or Christians as they were called, because of their belief in Christ who should come.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatהִתְפַּלֵּלhit/pal/LELprayedמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniכִּיkithatיִצְלַחyits/LACHshould prosperדְּבַרde/VARthe causeהַמְּשִׁיחִיִּיםham/Me/shi/chiy/YIMof the Christiansוּדְרוֹרu/de/RORand the freedomהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsof the land

    And therefore, at this time, Moroni prayed that the cause of the Christians, and the freedom of the land might be favored.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenשָׁפַךְsha/FAKHhe poured outאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOhis soulלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMto Godוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he namedלְכׇל־הָאָרֶץle/KHOL-ha/A/retsall the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמִנֶּגֶבmin/NE/gevsouthלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsof the landהַשְּׁמָמָהhash/She/ma/MAof Desolationאַףafyeaלְכׇל־הָאָרֶץle/KHOL-ha/A/retsall the landמִצָּפוֹןmits/tsa/FONfrom the northוְעַד־דָּרוֹםve/AD-da/ROMand unto the southאֶרֶץE/retsa landבְּחִירָהbe/chi/RAchosenוְאֶרֶץve/E/retsand a landהַדְּרוֹר׃had/de/RORof liberty

    And it came to pass that when he had poured out his soul to God, he named all the land which was south of the land Desolation, yea, and in fine, all the land, both on the north and on the south—A chosen land, and the land of liberty.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאָכֵןa/KHENsurelyלֹא־יִתֵּןlo-yit/TENshall not sufferאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכִּיkithatאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweהַנִּבְזִיםhan/niv/ZIMthe despisedבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecauseנׇשְׂאֵנוּnos/e/NUwe tookאֶת־שֵׁםet-shemthe nameהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christנֵרָמֵסne/ra/MESshall be trodden downוְנִשָּׁמֵדve/nish/sha/MEDand shall be destroyedעַדaduntilאִם־נָבִיאim-na/VIif we bringזֹאתzotthisעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usבִּפְשָׁעֵינוּ׃bif/sha/E/nuin our transgressions

    And he said: Surely God shall not suffer that we, who are despised because we take upon us the name of Christ, shall be trodden down and destroyed, until we bring it upon us by our own transgressions.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenדִּבֶּרdib/BERsaidמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand he went forthבְּתוֹךְbe/TOKHin the midstהָעָםha/AMof the peopleמֵנִיףme/NIFwavingאֶת־חֵלֶקet-CHE/lekthe partמְעִילוֹme/i/LOof his garmentהַקָּרוּעַhak/ka/RU/athe tornבַּמָּרוֹםbam/ma/ROMin the airלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִרְאוּyir/Umight seeכֻלָּםkhul/LAMallאֶת־הַכְּתָבet-hak/ke/TAVthe writingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּתַבka/TAVhe wroteעַל־הַחֵלֶקal-ha/CHE/lekupon the partהַקָּרוּעַhak/ka/RU/athe tornוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand he criedבְּקוֹלbe/KOLwith a voiceגָּדוֹלga/DOLloudלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And when Moroni had said these words, he went forth among the people, waving the rent part of his garment in the air, that all might see the writing which he had written upon the rent part, and crying with a loud voice, saying:

    Behold, whosoever will maintain this title upon the land, let them come forth in the strength of the Lord, and enter into a covenant that they will maintain their rights, and their religion, that the Lord God may bless them.

    And it came to pass that when Moroni had proclaimed these words, behold, the people came running together with their armor girded about their loins, rending their garments in token, or as a covenant, that they would not forsake the Lord their God; or, in other words, if they should transgress the commandments of God, or fall into transgression, and be ashamed to take upon them the name of Christ, the Lord should rend them even as they had rent their garments.

    Now this was the covenant which they made, and they cast their garments at the feet of Moroni, saying: We covenant with our God, that we shall be destroyed, even as our brethren in the land northward, if we shall fall into transgression; yea, he may cast us at the feet of our enemies, even as we have cast our garments at thy feet to be trodden under foot, if we shall fall into transgression.

    Moroni said unto them: Behold, we are a remnant of the seed of Jacob; yea, we are a remnant of the seed of Joseph, whose coat was rent by his brethren into many pieces; yea, and now behold, let us remember to keep the commandments of God, or our garments shall be rent by our brethren, and we be cast into prison, or be sold, or be slain.

    Yea, let us preserve our liberty as a remnant of Joseph; yea, let us remember the words of Jacob, before his death, for behold, he saw that a part of the remnant of the coat of Joseph was preserved and had not decayed. And he said—Even as this remnant of garment of my son hath been preserved, so shall a remnant of the seed of my son be preserved by the hand of God, and be taken unto himself, while the remainder of the seed of Joseph shall perish, even as the remnant of his garment.

25. 25

    Now behold, this giveth my soul sorrow; nevertheless, my soul hath joy in my son, because of that part of his seed which shall be taken unto God.

26. 26

    וְהִנֵּה־אֵלֶּהve/hin/NE-EL/leand behold theseהָיוּha/YUwereדִּבְרֵיdiv/REthe wordsיַעֲקֹב׃Ya/a/KOVof Jacob

    Now behold, this was the language of Jacob.

27. 27

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowמִיmiwhoיוֹדֵעַyo/DE/aknowsאִם־לֹאim-lowhether notשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITthe remnantזֶרַעZE/raof the seedיוֹסֵףYo/SEFof Josephאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichתֹּאבַדto/VADshall perishכְּבִגְדוֹke/vig/DOas his garmentהֵםhemtheyהַסָּרִיםhas/sa/RIMthose who departedמֵעִמָּנוּme/im/MA/nufrom usהֵןhenyeaוְגַם־אֲנַחְנוּve/GAM-a/NACH/nuand also weאִם־לֹאim-loif notנַעֲמֹדna/a/MODwe standחֲזָקִיםcha/za/KIMfastבֶּאֱמוּנַתbe/e/mu/NATin the faithהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achof Christ

    And now who knoweth but what the remnant of the seed of Joseph, which shall perish as his garment, are those who have dissented from us? Yea, and even it shall be ourselves if we do not stand fast in the faith of Christ.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenדִּבֶּרdib/BERsaidמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand he went forthוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentגַּםgamalsoבְּכׇל־חֶלְקֵיbe/KHOL-chel/KEinto all partsהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereהָיוּha/YUwereשָׁםshamthereמַחְלְקוֹתmach/le/KOTdissensionsוַיֶּאֱסֹףvay/ye/e/SOFand he gatheredאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָםet-kol-ha/AMall the peopleהַחֲפֵצִיםha/cha/fe/TSIMwho were desirousלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto maintainאֶת־דְּרוֹרָםet-de/ro/RAMtheir libertyלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahוְהַסָּרִיםve/has/sa/RIMand those who departedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִקְרְאוּnik/re/Uwere calledאַמָלִיקְיָהִים׃A/ma/li/ke/ya/HIMAmalickiahites

    And now it came to pass that when Moroni had said these words he went forth, and also sent forth in all the parts of the land where there were dissensions, and gathered together all the people who were desirous to maintain their liberty, to stand against Amalickiah and those who had dissented, who were called Amalickiahites.

    And it came to pass that when Amalickiah saw that the people of Moroni were more numerous than the Amalickiahites—and he also saw that his people were doubtful concerning the justice of the cause in which they had undertaken—therefore, fearing that he should not gain the point, he took those of his people who would and departed into the land of Nephi.

    וַיַּחְשֹׁבvay/yach/SHOVand thoughtמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notנָכוֹןna/KHONexpedientכִּיkithatיִהְיֶהyih/YEshould beלַלָּמָנִיםlal/La/ma/NIMto the Lamanitesעוֹדodany moreכֹּחַKO/achstrengthלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeחָשַׁבcha/SHAVhe thoughtלְהַכְרִיתle/hakh/RITto cut offאֶת־עַםet-amthe peopleאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahאוֹoorלְתׇפְשָׂםle/tof/SAMto take themוְלַהֲשִׁיבָםve/la/ha/shi/VAMand to bring them backוּלְהָמִיתu/le/ha/MITand to put to deathאֶת־אַמָלִיקְיָהet-A/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּיkiforיָדַעya/DAhe knewכִּיkithatיָסִיתya/SIThe would stir upאֶת־הַלָּמָנִיםet-Hal/la/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesלִכְעֹסlikh/OSto angerעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMagainst themוִיבִיאֵםvi/vi/EMand bring themלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto battleבָּםbamagainst themוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisיָדַעya/DAhe knewכִּיkithatיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEwould doאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַשִּׂיגyas/SIGhe might obtainאֶת־מְזִמָּתוֹ׃et-me/zim/ma/TOhis purpose

    Now Moroni thought it was not expedient that the Lamanites should have any more strength; therefore he thought to cut off the people of Amalickiah, or to take them and bring them back, and put Amalickiah to death; yea, for he knew that he would stir up the Lamanites to anger against them, and cause them to come to battle against them; and this he knew that Amalickiah would do that he might obtain his purposes.

    וַיַּחְשֹׁבvay/yach/SHOVand thoughtמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniכִּי־נָכוֹןki-na/KHONthat it was expedientלָקַחַתla/KA/chatto takeאֶת־צִבְאוֹתָיוet-tsiv/o/TAYVhis armiesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנֶאֶסְפוּne/es/FUwere gatheredיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherוַיִּתְחַמְּשׁוּvay/yit/cham/me/SHUand armed themselvesוַיָּבֹאוּvay/ya/VO/uand enteredבִבְרִיתviv/RITinto a covenantלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־הַשָּׁלוֹםet-hash/sha/LOMthe peaceוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatלָקַחla/KACHhe tookאֶת־צְבָאוֹet-tse/va/Ohis armyוַיִּסַּעvay/yis/SAand marchedעִם־אׇהֳלָיוim-o/ho/LAYVwith his tentsהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessלְהַכְרִיתle/hakh/RITto cut offאֶת־דֶּרֶךְet-DE/rekhthe courseאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    Therefore Moroni thought it was expedient that he should take his armies, who had gathered themselves together, and armed themselves, and entered into a covenant to keep the peace—and it came to pass that he took his army and marched out with his tents into the wilderness, to cut off the course of Amalickiah in the wilderness.

32. 32

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־עָשָׂהki-a/SAthat he didכִּרְצוֹנוֹkir/tso/NOaccording to his desireוַיִּסַּעvay/yis/SAand he marchedהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessוַיַּקְדֵּםvay/yak/DEMand headedאֶת־צִבְאוֹתet-tsiv/OTthe armiesאַמָלִיקְיָה׃A/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiah

    And it came to pass that he did according to his desires, and marched forth into the wilderness, and headed the armies of Amalickiah.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנָסnasfledאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahעִם־מְתֵיim-me/TEwith menמְעָטme/ATa fewמֵאֲנָשָׁיוme/a/na/SHAYVof his menוְהַנּוֹתָרִיםve/han/no/ta/RIMand the restנִתְּנוּnit/te/NUwere deliveredבִּידֵיbi/DEinto the handsמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niof Moroniוַיּוּשְׁבוּvay/yush/VUand were taken backלְאֶרֶץle/E/retsinto the landזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah fled with a small number of his men, and the remainder were delivered up into the hands of Moroni and were taken back into the land of Zarahemla.

    וּמוֹרוֹנִיu/Mo/RO/niand Moroniבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TObeingאִישׁisha manמְמֻנֶּהme/mun/NEappointedבְּיַדbe/YADby the handהַשֹּׁפְטִיםhash/shof/TIMof the judgesהָרָאשִׁיםha/ra/SHIMthe chiefוּבְקוֹלu/ve/KOLand by the voiceהָעָםha/AMof the peopleלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיָה־לוֹha/YA-lothere was to himכֹּחַKO/achpowerכִּרְצוֹנוֹkir/tso/NOaccording to his willעִם־צִבְאוֹתim-tsiv/OTwith the armiesהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephitesלְהָקִיםle/ha/KIMto establishוּלְהַנְהִיגu/le/han/HIGand to leadאוֹתָם׃o/TAMthem

    Now, Moroni being a man who was appointed by the chief judges and the voice of the people, therefore he had power according to his will with the armies of the Nephites, to establish and to exercise authority over them.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERwhosoeverמֵהָאַמָלִיקְיָהִיםme/Ha/a/ma/li/ke/ya/HIMof the Amalickiahitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־אָבוּlo-a/VUwould notלָבוֹאla/VOcome intoבִבְרִיתviv/RITa covenantלִתְמֹךְlit/MOKHto supportבִּדְבַרbid/VARthe causeהַדְּרוֹרhad/de/RORof libertyלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִשְׁמְרוּyish/me/RUthey might maintainמֶמְשָׁלָהmem/sha/LAa governmentחׇפְשִׁיתchof/SHITfreeצִוָּהtsiv/VAhe commandedלַהֲמִיתָםla/ha/mi/TAMto put them to deathוּמְעַטִּיםu/me/at/TIMand fewהָיוּha/YUthere wereאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoכָּחֲשׁוּka/cha/SHUdeniedבִּבְרִיתbiv/RITthe covenantהַדְּרוֹר׃had/de/RORof liberty

    And it came to pass that whomsoever of the Amalickiahites that would not enter into a covenant to support the cause of freedom, that they might maintain a free government, he caused to be put to death; and there were but few who denied the covenant of freedom.

36. 36

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedגַםgamalsoכִּי־צִוָּהki-tsiv/VAthat he commandedלְהָרִיםle/ha/RIMto raiseאֶת־דֶּגֶלet-DE/gelthe titleהַדְּרוֹרhad/de/RORof libertyעַל־כׇל־מִגְדָּלal-khol-mig/DALupon every towerאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsin all the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasבִּידֵיbi/DEin the handsהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephitesוְכֵןve/KHENand thusנָטַעna/TAplantedמוֹרוֹנִיMo/RO/niMoroniאֶת־דֶּגֶלet-DE/gelthe standardהַדְּרוֹרhad/de/RORof libertyבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephites

    And it came to pass also, that he caused the title of liberty to be hoisted upon every tower which was in all the land, which was possessed by the Nephites; and thus Moroni planted the standard of liberty among the Nephites.

37. 37

    וַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceעוֹדodagainבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landוְכֵןve/KHENand thusשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUthey keptאֶת־הַשָּׁלוֹםet-hash/sha/LOMthe peaceבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landעַד־קָרוֹבad-ka/ROVuntil nearלְתֹםle/TOMto the endהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAof the yearהַתְּשַׁעhat/te/SHAthe nineעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLof the reignהַשֹּׁפְטִים׃hash/shof/TIMof the judges

    And they began to have peace again in the land; and thus they did maintain peace in the land until nearly the end of the nineteenth year of the reign of the judges.

38. 38

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoהֵילָמָןHE/la/manHelamanוְהַכֹּהֲנִיםve/hak/ko/ha/NIMand the priestsהַגְּדוֹלִיםhag/ge/do/LIMthe highשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUkeptמִשְׁמֶרֶתmish/ME/retorderבַּקְּהִלָּהbak/ke/hil/LAin the churchאַףafyeaלִתְקוּפַתlit/ku/FATfor the spaceאַרְבַּעar/BAof fourשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsהָיָהha/YAthere wasלָהֶםla/HEMunto themשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceרַבravmuchוְשִׂמְחָהve/sim/CHAand rejoicingבַּקְּהִלָּה׃bak/ke/hil/LAin the church

    And Helaman and the high priests did also maintain order in the church; yea, even for the space of four years did they have much peace and rejoicing in the church.

39. 39

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMthat manyמֵתוּME/tudiedבֶּאֱמוּנָהbe/e/mu/NAin a faithחֲזָקָהcha/za/KAsteadfastכִּיkithatנִגְאֲלוּnig/a/LUwere redeemedנַפְשׁוֹתָםnaf/sho/TAMtheir soulsבְּיַדbe/YADby the handיֵשׁוּעַYe/SHU/aof JesusהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristאֲדֹנָםa/do/NAMtheir Lordוְכֵןve/KHENand thusיָצְאוּya/tse/Uthey went outמִן־הָעוֹלָםmin-ha/o/LAMfrom the worldבְּשִׂמְחָה׃be/sim/CHAwith joy

    And it came to pass that there were many who died, firmly believing that their souls were redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ; thus they went out of the world rejoicing.

    And there were some who died with fevers, which at some seasons of the year were very frequent in the land—but not so much so with fevers, because of the excellent qualities of the many plants and roots which God had prepared to remove the cause of diseases, to which men were subject by the nature of the climate—

    אַךְakhbutרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyמֵתוּME/tudiedבְּשֵׂיבָהbe/se/VAin old ageטוֹבָהto/VAgoodוְאֵלֶּהve/EL/leand theseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoמֵתוּME/tudiedבֶּאֱמוּנַתbe/e/mu/NATin the faithהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christמְאֻשָּׁרִיםme/ush/sha/RIMare happyבּוֹboin himכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuwe mustלַחְשֹׁב׃lach/SHOVsuppose

    But there were many who died with old age; and those who died in the faith of Christ are happy in him, as we must needs suppose.
