   Now we will return in our record to Amalickiah and those who had fled with him into the wilderness; for, behold, he had taken those who went with him, and went up in the land of Nephi among the Lamanites, and did stir up the Lamanites to anger against the people of Nephi, insomuch that the king of the Lamanites sent a proclamation throughout all his land, among all his people, that they should gather themselves together again to go to battle against the Nephites.

   And it came to pass that when the proclamation had gone forth among them they were exceedingly afraid; yea, they feared to displease the king, and they also feared to go to battle against the Nephites lest they should lose their lives. And it came to pass that they would not, or the more part of them would not, obey the commandments of the king.

   And now it came to pass that the king was wroth because of their disobedience; therefore he gave Amalickiah the command of that part of his army which was obedient unto his commands, and commanded him that he should go forth and compel them to arms.

   Now behold, this was the desire of Amalickiah; for he being a very subtle man to do evil therefore he laid the plan in his heart to dethrone the king of the Lamanites.

   And now he had got the command of those parts of the Lamanites who were in favor of the king; and he sought to gain favor of those who were not obedient; therefore he went forward to the place which was called Onidah, for thither had all the Lamanites fled; for they discovered the army coming, and, supposing that they were coming to destroy them, therefore they fled to Onidah, to the place of arms.

   וַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand appointedאִישׁisha manלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמֶלֶךְME/lekhkingוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand a leaderעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themבִּהְיוֹתbih/YOTbeingלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsנָכוֹןna/KHONfixedבְּחׇזְקָהbe/choz/KAwith firmnessכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notיִכָּנְעוּyik/ka/ne/Uthey would yieldלָצֵאתla/TSETto go forthנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephites

   And they had appointed a man to be a king and a leader over them, being fixed in their minds with a determined resolution that they would not be subjected to go against the Nephites.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהִתְקַבְּצוּhit/kab/be/TSUgathered themselvesיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherעַל־רֹאשׁal-roshupon the topהָהָרha/HARof the mountainאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִקְרָאnik/RAwas calledאַנְטִיפַּסAN/ti/pasAntipasלְהִתְכּוֹנֵןle/hit/ko/NENto prepareלַקְּרָב׃lak/ke/RAVfor battle

   And it came to pass that they had gathered themselves together upon the top of the mount which was called Antipas, in preparation to battle.

   וְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand it was notבְּלֵבbe/LEVin the heartאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahלָתֵתla/TETto giveלָהֶםla/HEMthemקְרָבke/RAVbattleכְּמִצְוַתke/mits/VATaccording to the commandmentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָיָהha/YAwasבְלִבּוֹve/lib/BOin his heartלִמְצֹאlim/TSOto findחֵןchenfavorבְּעֵינֵיbe/e/NEin the eyesצִבְאוֹתtsiv/OTof the armiesהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִתְיַצֵּבyit/yats/TSEVmight place himselfבְּרֹאשָׁםbe/ro/SHAMat their headוְיוֹרִידve/yo/RIDand bring downאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingמִכִּסְאוֹmik/kis/Ofrom his throneוְיִירַשׁve/yi/RASHand take possessionאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה׃et-ham/mam/la/KHAof the kingdom

   Now it was not Amalickiah’s intention to give them battle according to the commandments of the king; but behold, it was his intention to gain favor with the armies of the Lamanites, that he might place himself at their head and dethrone the king and take possession of the kingdom.

   וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdצִוָּהtsiv/VAhe commandedאֶת־צְבָאוֹet-tse/va/Ohis armyלִנְטוֹתlin/TOTto pitchאֶת־אׇהֳלֵיהֶםet-o/ho/le/HEMtheir tentsבָּעֵמֶקba/E/mekin the valleyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקָרוֹבka/ROVnearלְהַרle/HARunto the mountאַנְטִיפַּס׃AN/ti/pasAntipas

   And behold, it came to pass that he caused his army to pitch their tents in the valley which was near the mount Antipas.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבַלַּיְלָהval/LAY/lain the nightשָׁלַחsha/LACHhe sentמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMmessengersבַּסֵּתֶרbas/SE/terin secretאֶל־הַרel-harunto the mountאַנְטִיפַּסAN/ti/pasof Antipasוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHand desiredכִּיkithatיֵרֵדye/REDshould come downרֹאשׁroshthe leaderאֵלֶּהEL/leof thoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwho wereעַל־הָהָרal-ha/HARupon the mountוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his name wasלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiאֶל־רֶגֶלel-RE/gelunto the footהָהָרha/HARof the mountכִּיkiforחָפֵץcha/FETShe desiredלְדַבֵּרle/dab/BERto speakעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    And it came to pass that when it was night he sent a secret embassy into the mount Antipas, desiring that the leader of those who were upon the mount, whose name was Lehonti, that he should come down to the foot of the mount, for he desired to speak with him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenקִבֵּלkib/BELreceivedלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכוּתet-ham/mal/a/KHUTthe messageוְלֹאve/LOand notהֵעֵזhe/EZdurstלָרֶדֶתla/RE/detto go downאֶל־רֶגֶלel-RE/gelto the footהָהָרha/HARof the mountוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahשֵׁנִיתshe/NITa second timeוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHand desiredכִּיkithatיֵרֵדye/REDhe should come downוַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notאָבָהa/VAwas willingלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentעוֹדodagainבַּשְּׁלִישִׁית׃bash/she/li/SHITa third time

    And it came to pass that when Lehonti received the message he durst not go down to the foot of the mount. And it came to pass that Amalickiah sent again the second time, desiring him to come down. And it came to pass that Lehonti would not; and he sent again the third time.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenרָאָהra/AsawאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notיוּכַלyu/KHALhe couldלְהוֹרִידle/ho/RIDto bring downאֶת־לְחוֹנְטִיet-Le/CHON/tiLehontiמִן־הָהָרmin-ha/HARfrom the mountוַיַּעַלvay/YA/aland he went upבָּהָרba/HARinto the mountקָרוֹבka/ROVnearלְמַחֲנֵהle/ma/cha/NEto the campלְחוֹנְטִיle/CHON/tiof Lehontiוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentעוֹדodagainבָּרְבִיעִיתba/re/vi/ITa fourth timeאֶת־מַלְאָכוּתוֹet-mal/a/khu/TOhis messageאֶל־לְחוֹנְטִיel-Le/CHON/tiunto Lehontiוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHand desiredכִּיkithatיֵרֵדye/REDhe should come downוְיָבִיאve/ya/VIand bringאֶת־שׁוֹמְרָיוet-shom/RAYVhis guardsעִמּוֹ׃im/MOwith him

    And it came to pass that when Amalickiah found that he could not get Lehonti to come down off from the mount, he went up into the mount, nearly to Lehonti’s camp; and he sent again the fourth time his message unto Lehonti, desiring that he would come down, and that he would bring his guards with him.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיָרַדya/RADcame downלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiעִם־שׁוֹמְרָיוim-shom/RAYVwith his guardsאֶל־אַמָלִיקְיָהel-A/ma/LI/ke/yaunto Amalickiahוַיְבַקֵּשׁvay/vak/KESHdesiredאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּיkithatיֵרֵדye/REDhe should come downעִם־צְבָאוֹim-tse/va/Owith his armyבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightוְיַקִּיףve/yak/KIFand surroundאֶת־הָאֲנָשִׁיםet-ha/a/na/SHIMthe menבְּמַחֲנֵיהֶםbe/ma/cha/ne/HEMin their campsאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANwhich gaveלוֹlohimהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingפִּקּוּדpik/KUDcommandעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themוְכִיve/KHIand thatיִתְּנֵםyit/te/NEMhe would deliver themבִּידֵיbi/DEinto the handsלְחוֹנְטִיle/CHON/tiof Lehontiאִם־יָשִׂיםim-ya/SIMif he would makeאֶת־אַמָלִיקְיָהet-A/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahלְמִשְׁנֶהle/mish/NEa secondעַל־כׇּל־הַצָּבָא׃al-kol-hats/tsa/VAover the whole army

    And it came to pass that when Lehonti had come down with his guards to Amalickiah, that Amalickiah desired him to come down with his army in the night-time, and surround those men in their camps over whom the king had given him command, and that he would deliver them up into Lehonti’s hands, if he would make him (Amalickiah) a second leader over the whole army.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatיָרַדya/RADcame downלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiעִם־אֲנָשָׁיוim-a/na/SHAYVwith his menוַיַּקֵּףvay/yak/KEFand surroundedאֶת־אַנְשֵׁיet-an/SHEthe menאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahוּבְטֶרֶםu/ve/TE/remand beforeיָקִיצוּya/KI/tsuthey awokeבַּעֲלוֹתba/a/LOTat the risingהַשַּׁחַרhash/SHA/charof the dawnהָיוּha/YUthey wereמֻקָּפִיםmuk/ka/FIMsurroundedבְּצִבְאוֹתbe/tsiv/OTby the armiesלְחוֹנְטִי׃le/CHON/tiof Lehonti

    And it came to pass that Lehonti came down with his men and surrounded the men of Amalickiah, so that before they awoke at the dawn of day they were surrounded by the armies of Lehonti.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenרָאוּra/Uthey sawכִּיkithatהֵםhemtheyמֻקָּפִיםmuk/ka/FIMwere surroundedוַיִּתְחַנְּנוּvay/yit/chan/ne/NUand they pleadedלְאַמָלִיקְיָהle/A/ma/LI/ke/yawith Amalickiahכִּיkithatיַנִּיחַyan/NI/achhe would sufferלָהֶםla/HEMthemלְהִתְחַבֵּרle/hit/chab/BERto join themselvesעִם־אֲחֵיהֶםim-a/che/HEMwith their brethrenלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatלֹאlonotיֻשְׁמְדוּyush/me/DUthey be destroyedוְזֶהve/ZEand thisהָיָהha/YAwasהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichחָפֵץcha/FETSdesiredבּוֹboin itאַמָלִיקְיָה׃A/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiah

    And it came to pass that when they saw that they were surrounded, they pled with Amalickiah that he would suffer them to fall in with their brethren, that they might not be destroyed. Now this was the very thing which Amalickiah desired.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatמָסַרma/SARhe deliveredאֶת־אֲנָשָׁיוet-a/na/SHAYVhis menלְנֶגֶדle/NE/gedcontrary toמִצְוַתmits/VATthe commandmentהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingוְזֶהve/ZEand thisהָיָהha/YAwasחֵפֶץCHE/fetsthe desireאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַשְׁלִיםyash/LIMhe might accomplishאֶת־מְזִמּוֹתָיוet-me/zim/mo/TAYVhis designsלְהוֹרִידle/ho/RIDto bring downאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingמִכִּסְאוֹ׃mik/kis/Ofrom his throne

    And it came to pass that he delivered his men, contrary to the commands of the king. Now this was the thing that Amalickiah desired, that he might accomplish his designs in dethroning the king.

17. 17

    וַיְהִיvay/HInow it wasחֹקchoka customבֵּיןbenamongהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesאִם־יוּמַתim-yu/MATif was slainרֹאשָׁםro/SHAMtheir chiefהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONfirstלָשִׂיםla/SIMto appointאֶת־הַמִּשְׁנֶהet-ham/mish/NEthe secondלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beרֹאשָׁם׃ro/SHAMtheir chief

    Now it was the custom among the Lamanites, if their chief leader was killed, to appoint the second leader to be their chief leader.

18. 18

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־צִוָּהki-tsiv/VAthat commandedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּיkithatיַשְׁקֶהyash/KEshould give to drinkאֶחָדe/CHADoneמֵעֲבָדָיוme/a/va/DAYVof his servantsרוֹשׁroshpoisonמְעַטme/ATlittleמְעַטme/ATby littleאֶת־לְחוֹנְטִיet-Le/CHON/tito Lehontiוַיָּמֹת׃vay/ya/MOTand he died

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah caused that one of his servants should administer poison by degrees to Lehonti, that he died.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenמֵתmetwas deadלְחוֹנְטִיLe/CHON/tiLehontiוַיָּשִׂימוּvay/ya/SI/muand appointedהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesאֶת־אַמָלִיקְיָהet-A/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beנְגִידָםne/gi/DAMtheir leaderוּמְצַוָּםu/me/tsav/VAMand their commanderהָרֹאשׁ׃ha/ROSHthe chief

    Now, when Lehonti was dead, the Lamanites appointed Amalickiah to be their leader and their chief commander.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנָסַעna/SAmarchedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahעִם־צִבְאוֹתָיוim-tsiv/o/TAYVwith his armiesכִּיkiforהִשִּׂיגhis/SIGhe obtainedאֶת־חֶפְצוֹet-chef/TSOhis desireאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsunto the landנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiאֶל־עִירel-irunto the cityנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasהָעִירha/IRthe cityהָרֹאשָׁה׃ha/ro/SHAchief

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah marched with his armies (for he had gained his desires) to the land of Nephi, to the city of Nephi, which was the chief city.

    And the king came out to meet him with his guards, for he supposed that Amalickiah had fulfilled his commands, and that Amalickiah had gathered together so great an army to go against the Nephites to battle.

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenיָצָאya/TSAwent outהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingלִקְרָאתוֹlik/ra/TOto meet himצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּיkithatיֵצְאוּyets/Ushould go forthעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוַיֵּלְכוּvay/yel/KHUand they wentוַיִּשְׁתַּחֲווּvay/yish/ta/cha/VUand they bowed downלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכִּלְכַבְּדוֹkil/khab/be/DOas if to honor himבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofגְּדֻלָּתוֹ׃ge/dul/la/TOhis greatness

    But behold, as the king came out to meet him Amalickiah caused that his servants should go forth to meet the king. And they went and bowed themselves before the king, as if to reverence him because of his greatness.

23. 23

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהוֹשִׁיטho/SHITput forthהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOhis handלַהֲקִימָםla/ha/ki/MAMto raise them upכְּמִשְׁפַּטke/mish/PATaccording to the customהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesלְאוֹתle/OTfor a tokenשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMof peaceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלָקְחוּla/ke/CHUthey tookמִשְׁפָּטmish/PATcustomזֶהzethisמֵאֵתme/ETfromהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephites

    And it came to pass that the king put forth his hand to raise them, as was the custom with the Lamanites, as a token of peace, which custom they had taken from the Nephites.

24. 24

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהֵקִיםhe/KIMhe raisedאֶת־הָרִאשׁוֹןet-ha/ri/SHONthe firstמִן־הָאָרֶץmin-ha/A/retsfrom the groundוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdדָּקַרda/KARhe stabbedאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingאֶל־לִבּוֹel-lib/BOto his heartוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand he fellאָרְצָה׃AR/tsato the earth

    And it came to pass that when he had raised the first from the ground, behold he stabbed the king to the heart; and he fell to the earth.

    וַיָּנֻסוּvay/ya/NU/suand fledעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingוַיָּרִימוּvay/ya/RI/muand raisedעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaof Amalickiahקוֹלkola cryלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Now the servants of the king fled; and the servants of Amalickiah raised a cry, saying:

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdדָּקְרוּda/ke/RUstabbedעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingאֶת־לִבּוֹet-lib/BOhis heartוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand he fellוְהֵםve/HEMand theyנָסוּNA/sufledהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבֹּאוּBO/ucomeוּרְאוּ׃u/re/Uand see

    Behold, the servants of the king have stabbed him to the heart, and he has fallen and they have fled; behold, come and see.

27. 27

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּי־צִוָּהki-tsiv/VAthat commandedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahכִּיkithatיִצְעֲדוּyits/a/DUshould march forthצִבְאוֹתָיוtsiv/o/TAYVhis armiesוְיִרְאוּve/yir/Uand seeמַה־קָּרָהma-ka/RAwhat had befallenלַמֶּלֶךְlam/ME/lekhthe kingוְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenבָּאוּBA/uthey cameאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMunto the placeוַיִּמְצְאוּvay/yim/tse/Uand they foundאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingשׁוֹכֵבsho/KHEVlyingבְּדָמוֹbe/da/MOin his bloodוַיִּתְיַמֵּרvay/yit/yam/MERand pretendedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahלִקְצֹףlik/TSOFto be wrothוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidכׇּל־אֲשֶׁרkol-a/SHERwhosoeverאָהַבa/HAVlovedאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingיֵצֵאye/TSElet him go forthוְיִרְדֹּףve/yir/DOFand pursueאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVhis servantsלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיוּמָתוּ׃yu/MA/tuthey may be slain

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah commanded that his armies should march forth and see what had happened to the king; and when they had come to the spot, and found the king lying in his gore, Amalickiah pretended to be wroth, and said: Whosoever loved the king, let him go forth, and pursue his servants that they may be slain.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatכׇּל־אֹהֲבֵיkol-o/ha/VEall who lovedהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingכְּשׇׁמְעָםke/shom/AMwhen they heardאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseיָצְאוּya/tse/Uwent forthוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand pursuedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhof the king

    And it came to pass that all they who loved the king, when they heard these words, came forth and pursued after the servants of the king.

29. 29

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenרָאוּra/Usawעַבְדֵיav/DEthe servantsהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhof the kingצָבָאtsa/VAan armyרֹדֵףro/DEFpursuingאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themוַיִּפְחֲדוּvay/yif/cha/DUand they were afraidשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainוַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand crossed overאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוַיִּתְחַבְּרוּvay/yit/chab/be/RUand joined themselvesאֶל־עַםel-amunto the peopleעַמּוֹן׃Am/MONof Ammon

    Now when the servants of the king saw an army pursuing after them, they were frightened again, and fled into the wilderness, and came over into the land of Zarahemla and joined the people of Ammon.

30. 30

    וַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand returnedהַצָּבָאhats/tsa/VAthe armyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichרָדַףra/DAFpursuedאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themכִּיkiforרָדְפוּra/de/FUthey pursuedאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainוְכֵןve/KHENand thusקָנָהka/NAgainedאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahבְּמִרְמָתוֹbe/mir/ma/TOby his fraudאֶת־לֵבet-levthe heartהָעָם׃ha/AMof the people

    And the army which pursued after them returned, having pursued after them in vain; and thus Amalickiah, by his fraud, gained the hearts of the people.

31. 31

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it wasמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the morrowוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand he enteredאֶל־עִירel-irinto the cityנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiעִם־צִבְאוֹתָיוim-tsiv/o/TAYVwith his armiesוַיִּירַשׁvay/yi/RASHand took possessionאֶת־הָעִיר׃et-ha/IRof the city

    And it came to pass on the morrow he entered the city Nephi with his armies, and took possession of the city.

32. 32

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatשָׁמְעָהsha/me/Aheardהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenכִּיkithatנֶהֱרַגne/he/RAGwas slainהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingכִּיkiforשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahמַלְאָכוּתmal/a/KHUTan embassyאֶל־הַמַּלְכָּהel-ham/mal/KAunto the queenלְהוֹדִיעַle/ho/DI/ato make knownלָהּlato herכִּיkithatנֶהֱרַגne/he/RAGwas slainהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVof his servantsוְכִיve/KHIand thatרָדַףra/DAFhe pursuedאַחֲרֵיהֶםa/cha/re/HEMafter themעִם־צְבָאוֹim-tse/va/Owith his armyאַךְakhbutלַשָּׁוְאlash/SHAVin vainוְכִיve/KHIand thatנִמְלְטוּ׃nim/le/TUthey escaped

    And now it came to pass that the queen, when she had heard that the king was slain—for Amalickiah had sent an embassy to the queen informing her that the king had been slain by his servants, that he had pursued them with his army, but it was in vain, and they had made their escape—

33. 33

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenקִבְּלָהkib/be/LAreceivedהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAthe queenאֶת־הַמַּלְאָכוּתet-ham/mal/a/KHUTthe messageהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisוַתִּשְׁלַחvat/tish/LACHand she sentאֶל־אַמָלִיקְיָהel-A/ma/LI/ke/yaunto Amalickiahוַתְּבַקֵּשׁvat/te/vak/KESHand desiredכִּיkithatיַחְמֹלyach/MOLhe would spareעַל־עַםal-amthe peopleהָעִירha/IRof the cityוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבִּקְשָׁהbik/SHAshe desiredכִּיkithatיָבוֹאya/VOhe would come inאֵלֶיהָe/LE/haunto herוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבִּקְשָׁהbik/SHAshe desiredכִּיkithatיָבִיאya/VIhe would bringעִמּוֹim/MOwith himעֵדִיםe/DIMwitnessesלְהָעִידle/ha/IDto testifyעַל־מוֹתal-motconcerning the deathהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhof the king

    Therefore, when the queen had received this message she sent unto Amalickiah, desiring him that he would spare the people of the city; and she also desired him that he should come in unto her; and she also desired him that he should bring witnesses with him to testify concerning the death of the king.

34. 34

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatלָקַחla/KACHtookאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahאֶת־הָעֶבֶדet-ha/E/vedthe servantהַהוּאha/HUthatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָרַגha/RAGslewאֶת־הַמֶּלֶךְet-ham/ME/lekhthe kingוְאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרve/ET-kol-a/SHERand all whoהָיוּha/YUwereעִמּוֹim/MOwith himוַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameאֶל־הַמַּלְכָּהel-ham/mal/KAunto the queenאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםel-ham/ma/KOMunto the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיָשְׁבָהya/she/VAshe satוַיָּעִידוּvay/ya/I/duand testifiedכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themלְפָנֶיהָle/fa/NE/habefore herכִּיkithatנֶהֱרַגne/he/RAGwas slainהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingבִּידֵיbi/DEby the handsעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVof his servantsוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidהֵםhemtheyנָסוּNA/suhave fledהֲלֹאha/LOis notזֹאתzotthisמְעִידָהme/i/DAa witnessנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהִנִּיחוּhin/NI/chuthey satisfiedאֶת־דַּעַתet-DA/atthe mindהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAof the queenעַל־מוֹתal-motconcerning the deathהַמֶּלֶךְ׃ham/ME/lekhof the king

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah took the same servant that slew the king, and all them who were with him, and went in unto the queen, unto the place where she sat; and they all testified unto her that the king was slain by his own servants; and they said also: They have fled; does not this testify against them? And thus they satisfied the queen concerning the death of the king.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבִקֵּשׁvik/KESHsoughtאַמָלִיקְיָהA/ma/LI/ke/yaAmalickiahאֶת־חֵןet-chenthe favorהַמַּלְכָּהham/mal/KAof the queenוַיִּקָּחֶהָvay/yik/ka/CHE/haand took herלוֹlounto himלְאִשָּׁהle/ish/SHAto wifeוְכֵןve/KHENand thusבְּמִרְמָתוֹbe/mir/ma/TOby his fraudוּבְעֶזְרַתu/ve/ez/RATand by the aidעֲבָדָיוa/va/DAYVof his servantsהָעֲרוּמִיםha/a/ru/MIMthe cunningיָרַשׁya/RASHhe obtainedאֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָהet-ham/mam/la/KHAthe kingdomאַףafyeaהֻכַּרhuk/KARhe was acknowledgedלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the landבֵּיןbenamongכׇּל־עַםkol-amall the peopleהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהָיוּha/YUwereתַּעֲרֹבֶתta/a/RO/veta mixtureהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesוְהַלְּמוּאֵלִיםve/hal/Le/mu/e/LIMand the Lemuelitesוְהַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִיםve/hay/Yish/me/e/LIMand the Ishmaelitesוְכׇל־הַסּוֹרְרִיםve/KHOL-has/sor/RIMand all the dissentersמִן־הַנֶּפִיִּיםmin-Han/ne/fiy/YIMof the NephitesמִימֵיMI/mefrom the daysמְשֹׁלme/SHOLof the reignנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiעַד־הַיּוֹםad-hay/YOMunto the dayהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And it came to pass that Amalickiah sought the favor of the queen, and took her unto him to wife; and thus by his fraud, and by the assistance of his cunning servants, he obtained the kingdom; yea, he was acknowledged king throughout all the land, among all the people of the Lamanites, who were composed of the Lamanites and the Lemuelites and the Ishmaelites, and all the dissenters of the Nephites, from the reign of Nephi down to the present time.

    וְהַסּוֹרְרִיםve/has/sor/RIMand the dissentersהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseגַּם־כִּיgam-kialthoughהָיְתָהha/ye/TAthere wasלָהֶםla/HEMunto themתּוֹרָהto/RAinstructionאַחַתa/CHATthe sameוְדַעַתve/DA/atand informationאַחַתa/CHATthe sameאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלַנֶּפִיִּיםlan/Ne/fiy/YIMto the Nephitesוְאַףve/AFyea evenבְּהִלָּמְדָםbe/hil/la/me/DAMbeing taughtבְּדַעַתbe/DA/atin the knowledgeיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאַךְakhneverthelessזָרzarstrangeלְסַפֵּרle/sap/PERto relateכִּי־לֹאki-lothat notרַבravlongאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterסׇרְרָםsor/RAMtheir dissensionsהָיוּha/YUthey becameקְשֵׁי־עֹרֶףke/SHE-O/refstiffneckedוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׁבִיםsha/VIMrepentingוְיוֹתֵרve/yo/TERand moreפְּרָאִיםpe/ra/IMwildרְשָׁעִיםre/sha/IMwickedוְאַכְזָרִיםve/akh/za/RIMand ferociousמִן־הַלָּמָנִיםmin-Hal/la/ma/NIMthan the Lamanitesוַיִּשְׁתּוּvay/yish/TUand they drankמִמָּסֹרוֹתmim/ma/so/ROTof the traditionsהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesוַיִּתְמַכְּרוּvay/yit/mak/ke/RUand gave themselvesלְעַצְלוּתle/ats/LUTto idlenessוּלְכׇל־מִינֵיu/le/KHOL-mi/NEand to all mannerזִמָּהzim/MAof lasciviousnessאַףafyeaשָׁכְחוּsha/khe/CHUthey forgotכָלִילkha/LILutterlyאֶת־יְהוָהet-AdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

    Now these dissenters, having the same instruction and the same information of the Nephites, yea, having been instructed in the same knowledge of the Lord, nevertheless, it is strange to relate, not long after their dissensions they became more hardened and impenitent, and more wild, wicked and ferocious than the Lamanites—drinking in with the traditions of the Lamanites; giving way to indolence, and all manner of lasciviousness; yea, entirely forgetting the Lord their God.
