   And it came to pass in the eleventh year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, on the fifth day of the second month, there having been much peace in the land of Zarahemla, there having been no wars nor contentions for a certain number of years, even until the fifth day of the second month in the eleventh year, there was a cry of war heard throughout the land.

   For behold, the armies of the Lamanites had come in upon the wilderness side, into the borders of the land, even into the city of Ammonihah, and began to slay the people and destroy the city.

   And now it came to pass, before the Nephites could raise a sufficient army to drive them out of the land, they had destroyed the people who were in the city of Ammonihah, and also some around the borders of Noah, and taken others captive into the wilderness.

   וַיַּחְפְּצוּvay/yach/pe/TSUand were desirousהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesלְהַשִּׂיגle/has/SIGto obtainאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthose whoהוּבְלוּhuv/LUcarriedשְׁבִיshe/VIcaptiveאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּר׃el-ham/mid/BARinto the wilderness

   Now it came to pass that the Nephites were desirous to obtain those who had been carried away captive into the wilderness.

   Therefore, he that had been appointed chief captain over the armies of the Nephites, (and his name was Zoram, and he had two sons, Lehi and Aha)—now Zoram and his two sons, knowing that Alma was high priest over the church, and having heard that he had the spirit of prophecy, therefore they went unto him and desired of him to know whither the Lord would that they should go into the wilderness in search of their brethren, who had been taken captive by the Lamanites.

   And it came to pass that Alma inquired of the Lord concerning the matter. And Alma returned and said unto them: Behold, the Lamanites will cross the river Sidon in the south wilderness, away up beyond the borders of the land of Manti. And behold there shall ye meet them, on the east of the river Sidon, and there the Lord will deliver unto thee thy brethren who have been taken captive by the Lamanites.

   וַיַּעֲבֹרvay/ya/a/VORand crossed overזוֹרָםZO/ramZoramוּבָנָיוu/va/NAYVand his sonsאֶת־נְהַרet-ne/HARthe riverסִידוֹןSI/donSidonעִם־צִבְאוֹתֵיהֶםim-tsiv/o/te/HEMwith their armiesוַיִּסְעוּvay/yis/Uand marchedמֵעֵבֶרme/E/veraway beyondלִגְבוּלוֹתlig/vu/LOTthe bordersמַנְטִיMAN/tiof Mantiאֶל־מִדְבַּרel-mid/BARinto the wildernessהַנֶּגֶבhan/NE/gevof the southאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wasמִמִּזְרַחmim/miz/RACHon the eastלִנְהַרlin/HARof the riverסִידוֹן׃SI/donSidon

   And it came to pass that Zoram and his sons crossed over the river Sidon, with their armies, and marched away beyond the borders of Manti into the south wilderness, which was on the east side of the river Sidon.

   And they came upon the armies of the Lamanites, and the Lamanites were scattered and driven into the wilderness; and they took their brethren who had been taken captive by the Lamanites, and there was not one soul of them had been lost that were taken captive. And they were brought by their brethren to possess their own lands.

   And thus ended the eleventh year of the judges, the Lamanites having been driven out of the land, and the people of Ammonihah were destroyed; yea, every living soul of the Ammonihahites was destroyed, and also their great city, which they said God could not destroy, because of its greatness.

    אַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin a dayאֶחָדe/CHADoneהָיְתָהha/ye/TAit wasלִשְׁמָמָהlish/ma/MAleft desolateוְהַפְּגָרִיםve/hap/pe/ga/RIMand the carcasesנִטְרְפוּnit/re/FUwere mangledבְּיַדbe/YADbyכְּלָבִיםke/la/VIMdogsוְחַיּוֹתve/chay/YOTand wild beastsהַשָּׂדֶה׃has/sa/DEof the field

    But behold, in one day it was left desolate; and the carcasses were mangled by dogs and wild beasts of the wilderness.

    Nevertheless, after many days their dead bodies were heaped up upon the face of the earth, and they were covered with a shallow covering. And now so great was the scent thereof that the people did not go in to possess the land of Ammonihah for many years. And it was called Desolation of Nehors; for they were of the profession of Nehor, who were slain; and their lands remained desolate.

    וְלֹא־בָאוּve/LO-VA/uand did not comeהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesעוֹדodagainלְמִלְחָמָהle/mil/cha/MAto warעַל־הַנֶּפִיִּיםal-Han/ne/fiy/YIMagainst the Nephitesעַדaduntilהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהָאַרְבַּעha/ar/BAthe fourעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenלְמִמְשַׁלle/mim/SHALof the reignהַשֹּׁפְטִיםhash/shof/TIMof the judgesעַל־עַםal-amover the peopleנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהָיָהha/YAthere wasשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceתָּמִידta/MIDcontinualלְעַםle/AMamong the peopleנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiשָׁלֹשׁsha/LOSHfor threeשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃be/KHOL-ha/A/retsin all the land

    And the Lamanites did not come again to war against the Nephites until the fourteenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi. And thus for three years did the people of Nephi have continual peace in all the land.

    וַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand went forthאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaוַעֲמוּלֶקva/A/mu/lekand Amulekלִקְרֹאlik/ROpreachingתְשׁוּבָהte/shu/VArepentanceלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleבְּהֵיכְלֵיהֶםbe/he/khe/le/HEMin their templesוּבְמִקְדְּשֵׁיהֶםu/ve/mik/de/she/HEMand in their sanctuariesוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבְּבָתֵּיbe/vat/TEin the housesכִנּוּסָםkhin/nu/SAMof their assemblyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִבְנוּniv/NUwere builtכְּמִשְׁפַּטke/mish/PATafter the mannerהַיְּהוּדִים׃hay/Ye/hu/DIMof the Jews

    And Alma and Amulek went forth preaching repentance to the people in their temples, and in their sanctuaries, and also in their synagogues, which were built after the manner of the Jews.

    וּלְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרu/le/KHOL-a/SHERand as many asשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uwould hearאֶת־דִּבְרֵיהֶםet-div/re/HEMtheir wordsנָתְנוּna/te/NUthey impartedאֶת־דְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםet-de/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutמַשּׂוֹאmas/SOany respectפָנִיםfa/NIMof personsתָּמִיד׃ta/MIDcontinually

    And as many as would hear their words, unto them they did impart the word of God, without any respect of persons, continually.

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusיָצְאוּya/tse/Uwent forthאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaוַעֲמוּלֶקva/A/mu/lekand Amulekוְגַםve/GAMand alsoרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyאֲחֵרִיםa/che/RIMothersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoנִבְחֲרוּniv/cha/RUwere chosenלַמְּלָאכָהlam/me/la/KHAfor the workלִקְרֹאlik/ROto preachאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the landוַיְהִיvay/HIand becameיִסּוּדyis/SUDthe establishmentהַקְּהִלָּהhak/ke/hil/LAof the churchלַכֹּלlak/KOLgeneralבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout the landבְּכׇל־הַכִּכָּרbe/KHOL-hak/kik/KARin all the regionמִסָּבִיבmis/sa/VIVround aboutבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongכׇּל־עַםkol-amall the peopleהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephites

    And thus did Alma and Amulek go forth, and also many more who had been chosen for the work, to preach the word throughout all the land. And the establishment of the church became general throughout the land, in all the region round about, among all the people of the Nephites.

    וְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand there was noפְּלָיָהpe/la/YAinequalityבֵּינֵיהֶםbe/ne/HEMamong themוַיִּשְׁפֹּךְvay/yish/POKHand poured outיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־רוּחוֹet-Ru/CHOHis Spiritעַל־כׇּל־פְּנֵיal-kol-pe/NEon all the faceהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landלְהָכִיןle/ha/KHINto prepareאֶת־לְבַבet-le/VAVthe mindsבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםbe/NE-ha/a/DAMof the children of menאוֹoorלְהָכִיןle/ha/KHINto prepareאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsלְקַבֵּלle/kab/BELto receiveאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִלָּמֵדyil/la/MEDshould be taughtבְּתוֹכָםbe/to/KHAMamong themבְּעֵתbe/ETat the timeבּוֹאוֹ׃bo/Oof His coming

    And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming—

    לְמַעַןle/MA/anthatלֹא־יַקְשׁוּlo-yak/SHUthey should not be hardenedנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe wordלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatלֹא־יִהְיוּlo-yih/YUthey might not beחַסְרֵיchas/RElackingאֱמוּנָהe/mu/NAfaithוְיֵלְכוּve/yel/KHUand go onלַאֲבַדּוֹןla/a/vad/DONto destructionאַךְakhbutלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיְקַבְּלוּye/kab/be/LUthey might receiveאֶת־הַדָּבָרet-had/da/VARthe wordבְּשִׂמְחָהbe/sim/CHAwith joyוּכְעָנָףu/khe/a/NAFand as a branchיֻרְכְּבוּyur/ke/VUbe grafted inבְגֶפֶןve/GE/feninto the vineהָאֱמֶתha/e/METtrueלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיָבֹאוּya/VO/uthey might enterאֶל־מְנוּחַתel-me/nu/CHATinto the restיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMtheir God

    That they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving, and go on to destruction, but that they might receive the word with joy, and as a branch be grafted into the true vine, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord their God.

    Now those priests who did go forth among the people did preach against all lyings, and deceivings, and envyings, and strifes, and malice, and revilings, and stealing, robbing, plundering, murdering, committing adultery, and all manner of lasciviousness, crying that these things ought not so to be—

    מוֹדִיעִיםmo/di/IMholding forthדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעֲתִידִיםa/ti/DIMmustלָבוֹאla/VOcomeבְּקָרוֹבbe/ka/ROVshortlyאַףafyeaמוֹדִיעִיםmo/di/IMholding forthבּוֹאbothe comingבֶּן־אֱלֹהִיםben-E/lo/HIMof the Son of Godסִבְלוֹתָיוsiv/lo/TAYVhis sufferingsוּמוֹתוֹu/mo/TOand deathוְגַםve/GAMand alsoתְּחִיַּתte/chiy/YATthe resurrectionהַמֵּתִים׃ham/me/TIMof the dead

    Holding forth things which must shortly come; yea, holding forth the coming of the Son of God, his sufferings and death, and also the resurrection of the dead.

    וְרַבִּיםve/rab/BIMand manyמִן־הָעָםmin-ha/AMof the peopleשָׁאֲלוּsha/a/LUinquiredעַל־הַמָּקוֹםal-ham/ma/KOMconcerning the placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיָבוֹאya/VOshould comeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathitherבֶּן־אֱלֹהִיםben-E/lo/HIMthe Son of Godוַיְלַמְּדוּvay/lam/me/DUand they taughtאוֹתָםo/TAMthemכִּיkithatיֵרָאֶהye/ra/EHe would appearאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterתְּחִיָּתוֹte/chiy/ya/TOHis resurrectionוְאֶת־זֹאתve/ET-zotand this thingשָׁמַעsha/MAheardהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבְּשִׂמְחָהbe/sim/CHAwith joyוְגִילָהve/gi/LAand gladnessרַבָּה׃rab/BAgreat

    And many of the people did inquire concerning the place where the Son of God should come; and they were taught that he would appear unto them after his resurrection; and this the people did hear with great joy and gladness.

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterהוּקְמָהhuk/MAhad been establishedהַקְּהִלָּהhak/ke/hil/LAthe churchבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the landבְּהַשִּׂיגָהּbe/has/si/GAhaving gotנִצָּחוֹןnits/tsa/CHONthe victoryעַל־הַשָּׂטָןal-has/sa/TANover the devilוּדְבַרu/de/VARand the wordאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godנִקְרָאnik/RAbeing preachedבְּטׇהֳרָתוֹbe/to/ho/ra/TOin its purityבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsin all the landוַיהוָהve-Adonaiand Adonaiשׁוֹפֵךְsho/FEKHpouring outבִּרְכוֹתָיוbir/kho/TAYVhis blessingsעַל־הָעָםal-ha/AMover the peopleתַּמָּהtam/MAthus endedהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהָאַרְבַּעha/ar/BAthe fourעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenלְמִמְשַׁלle/mim/SHALof the reignהַשֹּׁפְטִיםhash/shof/TIMof the judgesעַל־עַםal-amover the peopleנֶפִי׃NE/fiof Nephi

    And now after the church had been established throughout all the land—having got the victory over the devil, and the word of God being preached in its purity in all the land, and the Lord pouring out his blessings upon the people—thus ended the fourteenth year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi.
