   Now it came to pass that in the first year of the reign of the judges over the people of Nephi, from this time forward, king Mosiah having gone the way of all the earth, having warred a good warfare, walking uprightly before God, leaving none to reign in his stead; nevertheless he had established laws, and they were acknowledged by the people; therefore they were obliged to abide by the laws which he had made.

   And it came to pass that in the first year of the reign of Alma in the judgment-seat, there was a man brought before him to be judged, a man who was large, and was noted for his much strength.

   And he had gone about among the people, preaching to them that which he termed to be the word of God, bearing down against the church; declaring unto the people that every priest and teacher ought to become popular; and they ought not to labor with their hands, but that they ought to be supported by the people.

   And he also testified unto the people that all mankind should be saved at the last day, and that they need not fear nor tremble, but that they might lift up their heads and rejoice; for the Lord had created all men, and had also redeemed all men; and, in the end, all men should have eternal life.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatהִרְבָּהhir/BAhe did so muchלְלַמֵּדle/lam/MEDto teachאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nubelievedרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyבִּדְבָרָיוbid/va/RAYVon his wordsעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלְכַלְכְּלוֹle/khal/ke/LOto support himוְלָתֶת־לוֹve/LA/tet-loand to give himכָּסֶף׃KA/sefmoney

   And it came to pass that he did teach these things so much that many did believe on his words, even so many that they began to support him and give him money.

   וַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland he beganלְהִתְנַשֵּׂאle/hit/nas/SEto be lifted upבְּגַאֲוַתbe/ga/a/VATin the prideלִבּוֹlib/BOof his heartוְלִלְבֹּשׁve/lil/BOSHand to wearבְּגָדִיםbe/ga/DIMgarmentsיְקָרִיםye/ka/RIMcostlyמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהֵחֵלhe/CHELhe beganלְהָקִיםle/ha/KIMto establishעֵדָהe/DAa churchכְּדֶרֶךְke/DE/rekhafter the mannerדְּבָרָיו׃de/va/RAYVof his preaching

   And he began to be lifted up in the pride of his heart, and to wear very costly apparel, yea, and even began to establish a church after the manner of his preaching.

   And it came to pass as he was going, to preach to those who believed on his word, he met a man who belonged to the church of God, yea, even one of their teachers; and he began to contend with him sharply, that he might lead away the people of the church; but the man withstood him, admonishing him with the words of God.

   וְשֵׁםve/SHEMand the nameהָאִישׁha/ISHof the manגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONwas Gideonוְהוּאve/HUand heהָיָהha/YAwasלִכְלִיlikh/LIan instrumentבְּיַדbe/YADin the handהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godלְהוֹצִיאle/ho/TSIto bring forthאֶת־עַםet-amthe peopleלִמְהִיLIM/hiof Limhiמֵעַבְדוּת׃me/av/DUTout of bondage

   Now the name of the man was Gideon; and it was he who was an instrument in the hands of God in delivering the people of Limhi out of bondage.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatעָמַדa/MADwithstoodגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONGideonנֶגְדּוֹneg/DOagainst himבְּדִבְרֵיbe/div/REby the wordsאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוַיִּחַר־אַפּוֹvay/YI/char-ap/POand his anger was kindledבְּגִדְעוֹןbe/Gid/ONagainst Gideonוַיִּשְׁלֹףvay/yish/LOFand he drewחַרְבּוֹchar/BOhis swordוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland he beganלְהַכּוֹתוֹle/hak/ko/TOto smite himוְגִדְעוֹןve/Gid/ONand Gideonבָּאbacameבַיָּמִיםvay/ya/MIMin yearsלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeלֹא־יָכֹלlo-ya/KHOLhe could notלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODto standבִּפְנֵיbif/NEbeforeמַכּוֹתָיוmak/ko/TAYVhis blowsוַיּוּמַתvay/yu/MATand he was slainבַּחֶרֶב׃ba/CHE/revby the sword

   Now, because Gideon withstood him with the words of God he was wroth with Gideon, and drew his sword and began to smite him. Now Gideon being stricken with many years, therefore he was not able to withstand his blows, therefore he was slain by the sword.

    וַיִּקְחוּvay/yik/CHUand they tookעַםamthe peopleהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchאֶת־הָאִישׁet-ha/ISHthe manאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהֲרָגוֹha/ra/GOslew himוַיְבִיאֻהוּvay/vi/U/huand brought himלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaלְהִשָּׁפֵטle/hish/sha/FETto be judgedעַל־הַפְּשָׁעִיםal-hap/pe/sha/IMfor the crimesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָשָׂה׃a/SAhe did

    And the man who slew him was taken by the people of the church, and was brought before Alma, to be judged according to the crimes which he had committed.

11. 11

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatעָמַדa/MADhe stoodלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaוַיָּרֶבvay/YA/revand pleadedבְּעַדbe/ADforנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhimselfבְּעֹזbe/OZwith boldnessרָב׃ravmuch

    And it came to pass that he stood before Alma and pled for himself with much boldness.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdזֹאתzotthis isהַפַּעַםhap/PA/amthe timeהָרִאשׁוֹנָהha/ri/sho/NAfirstאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatהוּבְאָהhuv/Ahas been introducedכְהֻנַּת־שָׁוְאkhe/hun/NAT-shavpriestcraftבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdלֹא־רַקlo-raknot onlyאָשַׁמְתָּa/sham/TAare you guiltyבִּכְהֻנַּת־שָׁוְאbikh/hun/NAT-shavof priestcraftכִּיkibutגַם־בִּקַּשְׁתָּgam-bik/kash/TAalso have you soughtלְהַשְׁלִיטָהּle/hash/li/TAto enforce itבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revby the swordוְלוּve/LUand wereהֻשְׁלְטָהhush/le/TAenforcedכְהֻנַּת־שָׁוְאkhe/hun/NAT-shavpriestcraftבָּעָםba/AMamong the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְהָיְתָהve/ha/ye/TAit would beלָהֶםla/HEMunto themלְשַׁחֵתle/sha/CHETfor destructionכָּלִיל׃ka/LILutterly

    But Alma said unto him: Behold, this is the first time that priestcraft has been introduced among this people. And behold, thou art not only guilty of priestcraft, but hast endeavored to enforce it by the sword; and were priestcraft to be enforced among this people it would prove their entire destruction.

    וְאַתָּהve/at/TAand youשָׁפַכְתָּsha/FAKH/tahave shedדַּםdamthe bloodאִישׁishof a manצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousאַףafyeaאִישׁisha manאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAwho didטוֹבָהto/VAgoodרַבָּהrab/BAmuchבָּעָםba/AMamong the peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisוְלוּve/LUand wereחָמַלְנוּcha/mal/NUwe to spareעָלֶיךָa/LE/khayouוּבָאu/VAthen would comeדָמוֹda/MOhis bloodעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuupon usלְנָקָם׃le/na/KAMfor vengeance

    And thou hast shed the blood of a righteous man, yea, a man who has done much good among this people; and were we to spare thee his blood would come upon us for vengeance.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeדִּינְךָdi/ne/KHAyour sentenceלָמוּתla/MUTto dieכַּתּוֹרָהkat/to/RAaccording to the lawאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתְּנָהnit/te/NAwas givenלָנוּLA/nuusמִיַּדmiy/YADby the handמוֹשִׁיָּהMo/SHIY/yaof Mosiahמַלְכֵּנוּmal/KE/nuour kingהָאַחֲרוֹןha/a/cha/RONthe lastוַיַּכִּירוּvay/yak/ki/RUand acknowledgedבָהּvaitהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיִשְׁמֹרyish/MORshall keepהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleאֶת־הַתּוֹרָה׃et-hat/to/RAthe law

    Therefore thou art condemned to die, according to the law which has been given us by Mosiah, our last king; and it has been acknowledged by this people; therefore this people must abide by the law.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatתְּפָשׂוּהוּte/fa/su/HUthey seized himוּשְׁמוֹu/she/MOand his name wasנֵהוֹרNE/horNehorוַיִּשָּׂאֻהוּvay/yis/sa/U/huand they carried himאֶל־רֹאשׁel-roshto the topגִּבְעַתgiv/ATof the hillמַנְטִיMAN/tiof Mantiוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereהוּבָאhu/VAhe was causedאוֹoorיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreנָכוֹןna/KHONcorrectlyהוֹדָהho/DAhe acknowledgedבֵּיןbenbetweenהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוְהָאָרֶץve/ha/A/retsand the earthכִּיkithatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichלִמֵּדlim/MEDhe taughtלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleהָיָהha/YAwasנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereמֵתmethe diedמוֹתmota deathבּוּשָׁה׃bu/SHAof shame

    And it came to pass that they took him; and his name was Nehor; and they carried him upon the top of the hill Manti, and there he was caused, or rather did acknowledge, between the heavens and the earth, that what he had taught to the people was contrary to the word of God; and there he suffered an ignominious death.

    אַךְakhneverthelessלֹאlonotשָׁבְתָהsha/ve/TAceasedכְהֻנַּת־שָׁוְאkhe/hun/NAT-shavpriestcraftמֵהִתְפַּשֵּׁטme/hit/pash/SHETfrom spreadingבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landכִּי־רַבִּיםki-rab/BIMfor manyאָהֲבוּA/ha/vulovedאֶת־הַבְלֵיet-hav/LEthe vanitiesהָעוֹלָםha/o/LAMof the worldוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand they went forthלִדְרֹשׁlid/ROSHto preachתּוֹרוֹתto/ROTdoctrinesשֶׁקֶרSHE/kerof falsehoodוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisעָשׂוּa/SUthey didלְמַעַןle/MA/anforעֹשֶׁרO/sherrichesוְכָבוֹד׃ve/kha/VODand honor

    Nevertheless, this did not put an end to the spreading of priestcraft through the land; for there were many who loved the vain things of the world, and they went forth preaching false doctrines; and this they did for the sake of riches and honor.

    אַךְakhneverthelessלֹאlonotהֵעֵזּוּhe/ez/ZUdurst theyלְשַׁקֵּרle/shak/KERto lieאִם־יִוָּדַעim-yiv/va/DAif it should be knownמִיִּרְאַתmiy/yir/ATfor fearהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAof the lawכִּיkiforנֶעֶנְשׁוּne/en/SHUwere punishedהַמְשַׁקְּרִיםham/shak/ke/RIMthe liarsלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהִתְיַמְּרוּhit/yam/me/RUthey pretendedלִדְרֹשׁlid/ROSHto preachכְּפִיke/FIaccording toאֱמוּנָתָםe/mu/na/TAMtheir beliefוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAthere was noלַתּוֹרָהlat/to/RAto the lawכֹּחַKO/achpowerעַל־אִישׁal-ishupon any manבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנָתוֹ׃e/mu/na/TOhis belief

    Nevertheless, they durst not lie, if it were known, for fear of the law, for liars were punished; therefore they pretended to preach according to their belief; and now the law could have no power on any man for his belief.

18. 18

    וְלֹא־הֵעֵזּוּve/LO-he/ez/ZUand they durst notלִגְנֹבlig/NOVstealמִיִּרְאַתmiy/yir/ATfor fearהַתּוֹרָהhat/to/RAof the lawכִּיkiforנֶעֶנְשׁוּne/en/SHUthey were punishedעַל־זֹאתal-zotfor thisוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלֹאlonotהֵעֵזּוּhe/ez/ZUdurst theyלִשְׁדֹדlish/DODto robוְלִרְצֹחַve/lir/TSO/achand to murderכִּיkiforמוֹת־יוּמַתmot-yu/MATwas punished unto deathהָרֹצֵחַ׃ha/ro/TSE/achthe murderer

    And they durst not steal, for fear of the law, for such were punished; neither durst they rob, nor murder, for he that murdered was punished unto death.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatכׇל־אֲשֶׁרkhol-a/SHERall whoלֹא־הָיָהlo-ha/YAwere notמֵעֲדַתme/a/DATof the churchהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godהֵחֵלhe/CHELbeganלִרְדֹּףlir/DOFto persecuteאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthose whoהָיוּha/YUwereמֵעֲדַתme/a/DATof the churchהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoנָשְׂאוּna/se/Utookעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themאֶת־שֵׁםet-shemthe nameהַמָּשִׁיחַ׃ham/Ma/SHI/achof Christ

    But it came to pass that whosoever did not belong to the church of God began to persecute those that did belong to the church of God, and had taken upon them the name of Christ.

    Yea, they did persecute them, and afflict them with all manner of words, and this because of their humility; because they were not proud in their own eyes, and because they did impart the word of God, one with another, without money and without price.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasחֹקchoka lawחָזָקcha/ZAKstrictבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongעַםamthe peopleהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TIthat notיָקוּםya/KUMshould rise upאִישׁishany manמֵהָעֵדָהme/ha/e/DAof the churchוְרָדַףve/ra/DAFand persecuteאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthose whoלֹאlowere notמֵהָעֵדָהme/ha/e/DAof the churchוְלֹאve/LOand notתִהְיֶהtih/YEshould beרְדִיפָהre/di/FApersecutionבֵּינֵיהֶם׃be/ne/HEMamong them

    Now there was a strict law among the people of the church, that there should not any man, belonging to the church, arise and persecute those that did not belong to the church, and that there should be no persecution among themselves.

    Nevertheless, there were many among them who began to be proud, and began to contend warmly with their adversaries, even unto blows; yea, they would smite one another with their fists.

    וְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasבַּשָּׁנָהbash/sha/NAin the yearהַשֵּׁנִיתhash/she/NITsecondלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLof the reignאַלְמָאAL/maof Almaוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand it wasלְצָרָהle/tsa/RAan afflictionרַבָּהrab/BAmuchלָעֵדָהla/e/DAunto the churchאַףafyeaהָיְתָהha/ye/TAit wasלְנִסָּיוֹןle/nis/sa/YONa trialרַבravmuchלָעֵדָה׃la/e/DAunto the church

    Now this was in the second year of the reign of Alma, and it was a cause of much affliction to the church; yea, it was the cause of much trial with the church.

24. 24

    כִּיkiforקָשׁוּka/SHUwere hardenedלִבּוֹתlib/BOTthe heartsרַבִּיםrab/BIMof manyוַיִּמָּחוּvay/yim/ma/CHUand were blotted outשְׁמוֹתָםshe/mo/TAMtheir namesוְלֹאve/LOand notנִזְכְּרוּniz/ke/RUwere they rememberedעוֹדodmoreבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongעַםamthe peopleהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godוְגַםve/GAMand alsoרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyנִפְרְדוּnif/re/DUwithdrewמִתּוֹכָם׃mit/to/KHAMfrom among them

    For the hearts of many were hardened, and their names were blotted out, that they were remembered no more among the people of God. And also many withdrew themselves from among them.

25. 25

    וַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand it wasזֹאתzotthisלְנִסָּיוֹןle/nis/sa/YONa trialגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatלָעֹמְדִיםla/om/DIMunto those who stoodבֶּאֱמוּנָהbe/e/mu/NAin the faithאַךְakhneverthelessהָיוּha/YUthey wereחֲזָקִיםcha/za/KIMsteadfastוּבִלְתִּי־נָמוֹטu/vil/TI-na/MOTand immovableבִּשְׁמֹרbish/MORin keepingמִצְוֹתmits/VOTthe commandmentsהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godוַיִּשְׂאוּvay/yis/Uand they boreבְאֹרֶךְve/O/rekhwith the patienceרוּחַRU/achof spiritאֶת־הָרְדִיפָהet-ha/re/di/FAthe persecutionאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנֶעֶרְמָהne/er/MAwas heapedעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMupon them

    Now this was a great trial to those that did stand fast in the faith; nevertheless, they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them.

    וְכַאֲשֶׁרve/kha/a/SHERand whenעָזְבוּa/ze/VUleftהַכֹּהֲנִיםhak/ko/ha/NIMthe priestsאֶת־מְלַאכְתָּםet-me/lakh/TAMtheir laborלְהַגִּידle/hag/GIDto declareדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godלָעָםla/AMunto the peopleעָזְבוּa/ze/VUleftגַם־הָעָםgam-ha/AMalso the peopleאֶת־מְלַאכְתָּםet-me/lakh/TAMtheir laborsלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearדְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםde/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of Godוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterהַגִּידhag/GIDdeclaredהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestלָהֶםla/HEMunto themאֶת־דְּבַר־אֱלֹהִיםet-de/VAR-e/lo/HIMthe word of GodשָׁבוּSHA/vuthey returnedכֻלָּםkhul/LAMallחָרוּצִיםcha/ru/TSIMdiligentlyלִמְלַאכְתָּםlim/lakh/TAMto their laborsוְהַכֹּהֵןve/hak/ko/HENand the priestלֹא־חָשַׁבlo-cha/SHAVdid not esteemנַפְשׁוֹnaf/SHOhimselfמֵעַלme/ALaboveשֹׁמְעָיוshom/AYVhis hearersכִּיkiforלֹא־טוֹבlo-tovis not betterהַדֹּרֵשׁhad/do/RESHthe preacherמִן־הַשֹּׁמֵעַmin-hash/sho/ME/athan the hearerוְלֹאve/LOand notהַמּוֹרֶהham/mo/REthe teacherמִן־הַלּוֹמֵדmin-hal/lo/MEDthan the learnerוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהָיוּha/YUwereכֻלָּםkhul/LAMallשָׁוִיםsha/VIMequalוַיַּעַבְדוּvay/ya/av/DUand laboredכֻלָּםkhul/LAMallאִישׁishevery manכְּפִיke/FIaccording toכֹּחוֹ׃ko/CHOhis strength

    And when the priests left their labor to impart the word of God unto the people, the people also left their labors to hear the word of God. And when the priest had imparted unto them the word of God they all returned again diligently unto their labors; and the priest, not esteeming himself above his hearers, for the preacher was no better than the hearer, neither was the teacher any better than the learner; and thus they were all equal, and they did all labor, every man according to his strength.

27. 27

    וַיִּתְּנוּvay/yit/te/NUand they impartedמֵרְכוּשָׁםmer/khu/SHAMof their substanceאִישׁishevery manכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהָיָה־לוֹha/YA-lohe hadלָעֲנִיִּיםla/a/niy/YIMunto the poorוְלָאֶבְיוֹנִיםve/la/ev/yo/NIMand unto the needyוְלַחוֹלִיםve/la/cho/LIMand unto the sickוְלַמְעֻנִּיםve/lam/un/NIMand unto the afflictedוְלֹאve/LOand notלָבְשׁוּla/ve/SHUdid they wearבְּגָדִיםbe/ga/DIMgarmentsיְקָרִיםye/ka/RIMcostlyאַךְakhyetהָיוּha/YUthey wereנְקִיִּיםne/kiy/YIMneatוְנָאִים׃ve/na/IMand comely

    And they did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and the needy, and the sick, and the afflicted; and they did not wear costly apparel, yet they were neat and comely.

28. 28

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusהֵקִימוּhe/KI/muthey establishedאֶת־דִּבְרֵיet-div/REthe affairsהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהֵחֵלhe/CHELbeganלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beלָהֶםla/HEMunto themשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceתָּמִידta/MIDcontinuallyשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainעִםimin spite ofכׇּל־רְדִיפוֹתֵיהֶם׃kol-re/di/fo/te/HEMall their persecutions

    And thus they did establish the affairs of the church; and thus they began to have continual peace again, notwithstanding all their persecutions.

29. 29

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofאֱמוּנַתe/mu/NATthe steadinessהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלְהַעֲשִׁירle/ha/a/SHIRto become richמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyוַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasלָהֶםla/HEMunto themשֶׁפַעSHE/faan abundanceכׇּל־צׇרְכֵיהֶםkol-tsor/khe/HEMof all their needsשֶׁפַעSHE/faan abundanceצֹאןtsonof flocksוּבָקָרu/va/KARand herdsוּמְרִיאִיםu/me/ri/IMand fatlingsמִכׇּל־מִיןmik/KOL-minof every kindוְגַםve/GAMand alsoשֶׁפַעSHE/faan abundanceדָּגָןda/GANof grainוְזָהָבve/za/HAVand goldוָכֶסֶףva/KHE/sefand silverוּדְבָרִיםu/de/va/RIMand thingsיְקָרִיםye/ka/RIMpreciousוְשֶׁפַעve/SHE/faand an abundanceמֶשִׁיME/shiof silkוּבוּץu/VUTSand fine linenמׇשְׁזָרmosh/ZARtwinedוְכׇל־מִינֵיve/KHOL-mi/NEand all mannerבֶּגֶדBE/gedof clothingטוֹבtovgoodוְצָנוּעַ׃ve/tsa/NU/aand homely

    And now, because of the steadiness of the church they began to be exceedingly rich, having abundance of all things whatsoever they stood in need—an abundance of flocks and herds, and fatlings of every kind, and also abundance of grain, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious things, and abundance of silk and fine-twined linen, and all manner of good homely cloth.

30. 30

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusבְּהַצְלִיחָםbe/hats/li/CHAMin their prosperingלֹא־שִׁלְּחוּlo-shil/le/CHUthey did not sendרֵיקָםre/KAMaway emptyאִישׁishanyעֵירֹםe/ROMnakedאוֹoorרָעֵבra/EVhungryאוֹoorצָמֵאtsa/MEathirstאוֹoorחוֹלֶהcho/LEsickאוֹoorאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלֹא־כֻלְכַּלlo-khul/KALhad not been nourishedוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׂמוּSA/mudid they setלִבָּםlib/BAMtheir heartsעַל־הָעֹשֶׁרal-ha/O/sherupon richesלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיוּha/YUthey wereנְדִיבִיםne/di/VIMliberalלַכֹּלlak/KOLunto allגַּם־זָקֵןgam-za/KENboth oldגַּם־צָעִירgam-tsa/IRand youngגַּם־עֶבֶדgam-E/vedboth bondגַּם־חׇפְשִׁיgam-chof/SHIand freeגַּם־זָכָרgam-za/KHARboth maleגַּם־נְקֵבָהgam-ne/ke/VAand femaleמִחוּץmi/CHUTSwithoutלָעֵדָהla/e/DAthe churchאוֹoorבְּתוֹכָהּbe/to/KHAwithinוְלֹאve/LOand notנָשְׂאוּna/se/Uwere they respectersפָנִיםfa/NIMof personsלַחֲסֵרִים׃la/cha/se/RIMof the needy

    And thus, in their prosperous circumstances, they did not send away any who were naked, or that were hungry, or that were athirst, or that were sick, or that had not been nourished; and they did not set their hearts upon riches; therefore they were liberal to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, whether out of the church or in the church, having no respect to persons as to those who stood in need.

31. 31

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusהִצְלִיחוּhits/li/CHUthey prosperedוַיַּעֲשִׁירוּvay/ya/a/SHI/ruand became richהַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuch moreמֵאֲשֶׁרme/a/SHERthan those whoלֹא־הָיוּlo-ha/YUwere notמֵעֲדָתָם׃me/a/da/TAMof their church

    And thus they did prosper and become far more wealthy than those who did not belong to their church.

32. 32

    וַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand those whoלֹא־הָיוּlo-ha/YUwere notמֵעֲדָתָםme/a/da/TAMof their churchהִתְמַכְּרוּhit/mak/ke/RUgave themselves upלַכְּשָׁפִיםlak/ke/sha/FIMto sorceriesוְלַעֲבוֹדַתve/la/a/vo/DATand to the worshipאֱלִילִיםe/li/LIMof idolsאוֹoorלְעַצְלוּתle/ats/LUTto idlenessוּלְהַבְלֵי־פֶהu/le/hav/LE-feand to babblingsוּלְקִנְאָהu/le/kin/Aand to envyingsוּמְרִיבָהu/me/ri/VAand strifeוַיִּלְבְּשׁוּvay/yil/be/SHUand woreבְּגָדִיםbe/ga/DIMgarmentsיְקָרִיםye/ka/RIMcostlyוַיִּתְנַשְּׂאוּvay/yit/nas/se/Uand lifted themselves upבְּגַאֲוַתbe/ga/a/VATin the prideעֵינֵיהֶםe/ne/HEMof their eyesוַיִּרְדְּפוּvay/yir/de/FUand persecutedוַיְשַׁקְּרוּvay/shak/ke/RUand liedוַיִּגְנְבוּvay/yig/ne/VUand stoleוַיִּשְׁדְּדוּvay/yish/de/DUand robbedוַיִּזְנוּvay/yiz/NUand committed whoredomsוַיִּרְצְחוּvay/yir/tse/CHUand murderedוְכׇל־מִינֵיve/KHOL-mi/NEand all mannerרֶשַׁעRE/shaof wickednessאַךְakhneverthelessהוּשַׂםhu/SAMwas putהַחֹקha/CHOKthe lawעַל־כׇּל־הָעֹבְרִיםal-kol-ha/ov/RIMupon all the transgressorsאוֹתוֹo/TOof itכְּכֹלke/KHOLaccording to allאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיָכְלוּ׃ya/khe/LUthey could

    For those who did not belong to their church did indulge themselves in sorceries, and in idolatry or idleness, and in babblings, and in envyings and strife; wearing costly apparel; being lifted up in the pride of their own eyes; persecuting, lying, thieving, robbing, committing whoredoms, and murdering, and all manner of wickedness; nevertheless, the law was put in force upon all those who did transgress it, inasmuch as it was possible.

33. 33

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבְּהָשִׂיםbe/ha/SIMby exercisingכָּכָהKA/khathusאֶת־הַחֹקet-ha/CHOKthe lawעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themוַיִּסְבֹּלvay/yis/BOLand sufferedכׇּל־אִישׁkol-ishevery manכְּפִיke/FIaccording toאֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂהa/SHER-a/SAwhich he didוַיִּשְׁקְטוּvay/yish/ke/TUand they became quietיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreוְלֹא־הֵעֵזּוּve/LO-he/ez/ZUand they durst notלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTcommitרֶשַׁעRE/shawickednessאִם־יִוָּדַעim-yiv/va/DAif it should be knownלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeהָיָהha/YAthere wasשָׁלוֹםsha/LOMpeaceרַבravmuchבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revamongעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiעַד־שְׁנַתad-she/NATunto the yearהַחֲמִישִׁיתha/cha/mi/SHITfifthלִמְשֹׁלlim/SHOLof the reignהַשֹּׁפְטִים׃hash/shof/TIMof the judges

    And it came to pass that by thus exercising the law upon them, every man suffering according to that which he had done, they became more still, and durst not commit any wickedness if it were known; therefore, there was much peace among the people of Nephi until the fifth year of the reign of the judges.
