   And it came to pass in the commencement of the fifth year of their reign there began to be a contention among the people; for a certain man, being called Amlici, he being a very cunning man, yea, a wise man as to the wisdom of the world, he being after the order of the man that slew Gideon by the sword, who was executed according to the law—

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowמָשַׁךְma/SHAKHdrew awayעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisבְּעׇרְמָתוֹbe/or/ma/TOby his cunningעַםampeopleרַבravmuchאַחֲרָיוa/cha/RAYVafter himעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beחֲזָקִיםcha/za/KIMpowerfulמְאֹדme/ODveryוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלְבַקֵּשׁle/vak/KESHto endeavorלְהָקִיםle/ha/KIMto establishאֶת־עַמְלִיסִיet-AM/li/siAmliciלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעַל־הָעָם׃al-ha/AMover the people

   Now this Amlici had, by his cunning, drawn away much people after him; even so much that they began to be very powerful; and they began to endeavor to establish Amlici to be a king over the people.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלַחֲרָדָהla/cha/ra/DAalarmingלְעַםle/AMunto the peopleהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרle/KHOL-a/SHERunto all those whoלֹאlonotנִמְשְׁכוּnim/she/KHUwere drawnאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterפִּתּוּיֵיpit/tu/YEthe persuasionsעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siof Amliciכִּיkiforיָדְעוּya/de/Uthey knewכְּפִיke/FIaccording toתוֹרָתָםto/ra/TAMtheir lawכִּיkithatיוּקְמוּyuk/MUmust be establishedדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsכָּאֵלֶּהka/EL/lelike theseבְּקוֹלbe/KOLby the voiceהָעָם׃ha/AMof the people

   Now this was alarming to the people of the church, and also to all those who had not been drawn away after the persuasions of Amlici; for they knew that according to their law that such things must be established by the voice of the people.

   לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeאִם־יוּכַלim-yu/KHALif were ableעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciלְהַשִּׂיגle/has/SIGto gainאֶת־קוֹלet-kolthe voiceהָעָםha/AMof the peopleהוּאhuheבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TObeingאִישׁisha manרָשָׁעra/SHAwickedיִגְזֹלyig/ZOLwould depriveמֵהֶםme/HEMof themאֶת־מִשְׁפְּטֵיet-mish/pe/TEof the rightsהָעֵדָהha/e/DAof the churchוְחֻקֶּיהָve/chuk/ke/HAand its privilegesכִּיkiforחָשַׁבcha/SHAVhe intendedלְהַשְׁמִידle/hash/MIDto destroyאֶת־עֲדַתet-a/DATthe churchהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMof God

   Therefore, if it were possible that Amlici should gain the voice of the people, he, being a wicked man, would deprive them of their rights and privileges of the church; for it was his intent to destroy the church of God.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנִקְהֲלוּnik/ha/LUgathered themselvesהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץbe/KHOL-ha/A/retsthroughout all the landאִישׁishevery manכְּפִיke/FIaccording toדַעְתּוֹda/TOhis mindאִם־בְּעַדim-be/ADwhether forעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciאוֹoorנֶגְדּוֹneg/DOagainst himלְמַחֲנוֹתle/ma/cha/NOTinto bodiesנִפְרָדִיםnif/ra/DIMseparateוַיְהִיvay/HIand there wasרִיבrivdisputeרַבravmuchוּמְרִיבוֹתu/me/ri/VOTand contentionsנִפְלָאוֹתnif/la/OTwonderfulאִישׁishoneעִם־רֵעֵהוּ׃im-re/E/huwith another

   And it came to pass that the people assembled themselves together throughout all the land, every man according to his mind, whether it were for or against Amlici, in separate bodies, having much dispute and wonderful contentions one with another.

   וְכֵןve/KHENand thusנִקְהֲלוּnik/ha/LUgathered themselvesלָתֵתla/TETto cast inאֶת־קוֹלָםet-ko/LAMtheir voicesבַּדָּבָרbad/da/VARconcerning the matterוַיּוּשְׂמוּvay/yus/MUand they were laidלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeהַשֹּׁפְטִים׃hash/shof/TIMthe judges

   And thus they did assemble themselves together to cast in their voices concerning the matter; and they were laid before the judges.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבָּאbacameקוֹלkolthe voiceהָעָםha/AMof the peopleנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciוְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand he was notלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhmade kingעַל־הָעָם׃al-ha/AMover the people

   And it came to pass that the voice of the people came against Amlici, that he was not made king over the people.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand wasהַדָּבָרhad/da/VARthe thingהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisלְשִׂמְחָהle/sim/CHAa joyרַבָּהrab/BAmuchבְּלֵבbe/LEVin the heartsהָעֹמְדִיםha/om/DIMof those who stoodנֶגְדּוֹneg/DOagainst himאַךְakhbutהֵסִיתhe/SITstirred upעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciאֶת־אֲשֶׁרet-a/SHERthose whoבְּצִדּוֹbe/tsid/DOwere on his sideלִכְעֹסlikh/OSto angerעַל־אֲשֶׁרal-a/SHERagainst those whoלֹאlowere notבְצִדּוֹ׃ve/tsid/DOon his side

   Now this did cause much joy in the hearts of those who were against him; but Amlici did stir up those who were in his favor to anger against those who were not in his favor.

   וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנִקְהֲלוּnik/ha/LUgathered themselvesיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherוַיִּמְשְׁחוּvay/yim/she/CHUand consecratedאֶת־עַמְלִיסִיet-AM/li/siAmliciלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMover them

   And it came to pass that they gathered themselves together, and did consecrate Amlici to be their king.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenהָיָהha/YAbecameעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciלְמֶלֶךְle/ME/lekhkingעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMover themוַיְצַוvay/TSAVthat he commandedאוֹתָםo/TAMthemלָשֵׂאתla/SETto take upכְּלֵיke/LEweaponsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warעַל־אֲחֵיהֶםal-a/che/HEMagainst their brethrenוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisעָשָׂהa/SAhe didלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַכְנִיעֵםyakh/ni/EMhe might subject themתַּחְתָּיו׃tach/TAYVunto him

    Now when Amlici was made king over them he commanded them that they should take up arms against their brethren; and this he did that he might subject them to him.

    וַיֻּבְדְּלוּvay/yuv/de/LUand were distinguishedעַםamthe peopleעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siof Amliciבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMby the nameעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siof Amliciוַיִּקָּרְאוּvay/yik/ka/re/Uand they were calledעַמְלִיסִיםAm/li/SIMAmlicitesוְהַנִּשְׁאָרִיםve/han/nish/a/RIMand the restנִקְרְאוּnik/re/Uwere calledנֶפִיִּיםNe/fiy/YIMNephitesאוֹoorעַםamthe peopleהָאֱלֹהִים׃ha/e/lo/HIMof God

    Now the people of Amlici were distinguished by the name of Amlici, being called Amlicites; and the remainder were called Nephites, or the people of God.

    וַיֵּדְעוּvay/yed/Uand knewעַםamthe peopleהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephitesאֶת־מַחֲשֶׁבֶתet-ma/cha/SHE/vetthe intentהָעַמְלִיסִיםha/Am/li/SIMof the Amlicitesוַיִּתְכּוֹנְנוּvay/yit/kon/NUand prepared themselvesלִקְרָאתָםlik/ra/TAMto meet themהֵןhenyeaהִתְחַמְּשׁוּhit/cham/me/SHUarmed themselvesבַּחֲרָבוֹתba/cha/ra/VOTwith swordsוּבְכִידוֹנִיםu/ve/khi/do/NIMand with cimetersוּבִקְשָׁתוֹתu/vik/sha/TOTand with bowsוּבְחִצִּיםu/ve/chits/TSIMand with arrowsוּבַאֲבָנִיםu/va/a/va/NIMand with stonesוּבִקְלָעִיםu/vik/la/IMand with slingsוּבְכׇל־מִינֵיu/ve/KHOL-mi/NEand with all mannerכְּלֵיke/LEof weaponsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warמִכׇּל־מִין׃mik/KOL-minof every kind

    Therefore the people of the Nephites were aware of the intent of the Amlicites, and therefore they did prepare to meet them; yea, they did arm themselves with swords, and with cimeters, and with bows, and with arrows, and with stones, and with slings, and with all manner of weapons of war, of every kind.

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusהָיוּha/YUthey wereנְכוֹנִיםne/kho/NIMreadyלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetהָעַמְלִיסִיםha/Am/li/SIMthe Amlicitesלְעֵתle/ETat the timeבּוֹאָםbo/AMof their comingוַיְמַנּוּvay/man/NUand they appointedשָׂרִיםsa/RIMcaptainsוְשָׂרֵיve/sa/REand higher captainsאֲלָפִיםa/la/FIMof thousandsוְשָׂרֵיve/sa/REand chief captainsצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsכְּפִיke/FIaccording toמִסְפָּרָם׃mis/pa/RAMtheir numbers

    And thus they were prepared to meet the Amlicites at the time of their coming. And there were appointed captains, and higher captains, and chief captains, according to their numbers.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatחִמֵּשׁchim/MESHarmedעַמְלִיסִיAM/li/siAmliciאֶת־אֲנָשָׁיוet-a/na/SHAYVhis menבְּכׇל־מִינֵיbe/KHOL-mi/NEwith all mannerכְּלֵיke/LEof weaponsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warמִכׇּל־מִיןmik/KOL-minof every kindוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהִפְקִידhif/KIDhe appointedשָׂרִיםsa/RIMrulersוְרָאשִׁיםve/ra/SHIMand leadersעַל־עַמּוֹal-am/MOover his peopleלְהוֹבִילָםle/ho/vi/LAMto lead themלַמִּלְחָמָהlam/mil/cha/MAto warעַל־אֲחֵיהֶם׃al-a/che/HEMagainst their brethren

    And it came to pass that Amlici did arm his men with all manner of weapons of war of every kind; and he also appointed rulers and leaders over his people, to lead them to war against their brethren.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatבָּאוּBA/ucameהָעַמְלִיסִיםha/Am/li/SIMthe Amlicitesעַל־גִּבְעַתal-giv/ATupon the hillאַמְנִיהוּAm/NI/huof Amnihuאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wasמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/demeastלִנְהַרlin/HARof the riverסִידוֹןSI/donof Sidonהַשּׁוֹטֵףhash/sho/TEFwhich ranעַל־פְּנֵיal-pe/NEalong the faceאֶרֶץE/retsof the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְשָׁםve/SHAMand thereהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/luthey beganלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto makeמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAwarעִם־הַנֶּפִיִּים׃im-Han/ne/fiy/YIMwith the Nephites

    And it came to pass that the Amlicites came upon the hill Amnihu, which was east of the river Sidon, which ran by the land of Zarahemla, and there they began to make war with the Nephites.

    וְאַלְמָאve/AL/maand Almaבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TObeingהַשֹּׁפֵטhash/sho/FETthe judgeהָרֹאשׁha/ROSHthe chiefוּמוֹשֵׁלu/mo/SHELand the governorעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fiof the people of Nephiעַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeעָלָהa/LAhe went upעִם־עַמּוֹim-am/MOwith his peopleאַףafyeaעִם־שָׂרָיוim-sa/RAYVwith his captainsוְשָׂרֵיve/sa/REand chief captainsצִבְאוֹתָיוtsiv/o/TAYVof his armiesאַףafyeaבְּרֹאשׁbe/ROSHat the headצִבְאוֹתָיוtsiv/o/TAYVof his armiesלִקְרַאתlik/RATagainstהָעַמְלִיסִיםha/Am/li/SIMthe Amlicitesלַמִּלְחָמָה׃lam/mil/cha/MAto battle

    Now Alma, being the chief judge and the governor of the people of Nephi, therefore he went up with his people, yea, with his captains, and chief captains, yea, at the head of his armies, against the Amlicites to battle.

    And they began to slay the Amlicites upon the hill east of Sidon. And the Amlicites did contend with the Nephites with great strength, insomuch that many of the Nephites did fall before the Amlicites.

    Nevertheless the Lord did strengthen the hand of the Nephites, that they slew the Amlicites with great slaughter, that they began to flee before them.

    And it came to pass that the Nephites did pursue the Amlicites all that day, and did slay them with much slaughter, insomuch that there were slain of the Amlicites twelve thousand five hundred thirty and two souls; and there were slain of the Nephites six thousand five hundred sixty and two souls.

    And it came to pass that when Alma could pursue the Amlicites no longer he caused that his people should pitch their tents in the valley of Gideon, the valley being called after that Gideon who was slain by the hand of Nehor with the sword; and in this valley the Nephites did pitch their tents for the night.

    וַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand sentאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaמְרַגְּלִיםme/rag/ge/LIMspiesלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetto followאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterשְׁאֵרִיתshe/e/RITthe remnantהָעַמְלִיסִיםha/Am/li/SIMof the Amlicitesלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיֵדַעye/DAhe might knowאֶת־מַחְשְׁבוֹתָםet-mach/she/vo/TAMtheir plansוּמְזִמּוֹתָםu/me/zim/mo/TAMand their plotsלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִשָּׁמֵרyish/sha/MERmight guard himselfמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMagainst themלְהַצִּילle/hats/TSILto preserveאֶת־עַמּוֹet-am/MOhis peopleמֵהִשָּׁחֵת׃me/hish/sha/CHETfrom being destroyed

    And Alma sent spies to follow the remnant of the Amlicites, that he might know of their plans and their plots, whereby he might guard himself against them, that he might preserve his people from being destroyed.

    Now those whom he had sent out to watch the camp of the Amlicites were called Zeram, and Amnor, and Manti, and Limher; these were they who went out with their men to watch the camp of the Amlicites.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the morrowוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuthey returnedאֶל־מַחֲנֵהel-ma/cha/NEunto the campהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephitesבְּחִפָּזוֹןbe/chip/pa/ZONin hasteגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatתְּמֵהִיםte/me/HIMbeing astonishedמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyוַיִּפֹּלvay/yip/POLand there fellעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themפַּחַדPA/chadfearגָּדוֹלga/DOLmuchלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    And it came to pass that on the morrow they returned into the camp of the Nephites in great haste, being greatly astonished, and struck with much fear, saying:

    Behold, we followed the camp of the Amlicites, and to our great astonishment, in the land of Minon, above the land of Zarahemla, in the course of the land of Nephi, we saw a numerous host of the Lamanites; and behold, the Amlicites have joined them;

25. 25

    וְהִנָּםve/hin/NAMand they areעַל־אַחֵינוּal-a/CHE/nuupon our brethrenבָּאָרֶץba/A/retsin the landהַהִיאha/HIthatוְהֵםve/HEMand theyנָסִיםna/SIMare fleeingמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMbefore themעִם־צֹאנָםim-tso/NAMwith their flocksוּנְשֵׁיהֶםu/ne/she/HEMand their wivesוְטַפָּםve/tap/PAMand their childrenאֶל־עִירֵנוּel-i/re/NUtowards our cityוְאִם־לֹאve/IM-loand if notנְמַהֵרne/ma/HERwe hastenיִירְשׁוּYI/re/shuthey shall possessאֶת־עִירֵנוּet-i/re/NUour cityוְיֵהָרְגוּve/ye/ha/re/GUand shall be slainאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersוְנָשֵׁינוּve/na/SHE/nuand our wivesוְטַפֵּנוּ׃ve/tap/PE/nuand our children

    And they are upon our brethren in that land; and they are fleeing before them with their flocks, and their wives, and their children, towards our city; and except we make haste they obtain possession of our city, and our fathers, and our wives, and our children be slain.

26. 26

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנָשְׂאוּna/se/Utookעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiאֶת־אׇהֳלֵיהֶםet-o/ho/le/HEMtheir tentsוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand departedמֵעֵמֶקme/E/mekout of the valleyגִּדְעוֹןGid/ONof Gideonאֶל־עִירָםel-i/RAMunto their cityהִיאhiwhich isעִירirthe cityזָרַהֶמְלָה׃Za/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemla

    And it came to pass that the people of Nephi took their tents, and departed out of the valley of Gideon towards their city, which was the city of Zarahemla.

27. 27

    וְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdבְּעׇבְרָםbe/ov/RAMas they crossedאֶת־נְהַרet-ne/HARthe riverסִידוֹןSI/donof Sidonוְהַלָּמָנִיםve/hal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוְהָעַמְלִיסִיםve/Ha/am/li/SIMand the Amlicitesרַבִּיםrab/BIMnumerousכִּמְעַטkim/ATalmostכְּחוֹלke/CHOLas the sandהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaבָּאוּBA/ucameעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themלְהַשְׁמִידָם׃le/hash/mi/DAMto destroy them

    And behold, as they were crossing the river Sidon, the Lamanites and the Amlicites, being as numerous almost, as it were, as the sands of the sea, came upon them to destroy them.

28. 28

    אַךְakhneverthelessהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesנִתְחַזְּקוּnit/chaz/ze/KUwere strengthenedבְּיַד־יְהוָהbe/YAD-Adonaiby the hand of Adonaiכִּיkiforהִתְפַּלְלוּhit/pal/LUthey prayedאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto Himבְּחׇזְקָהbe/choz/KAmightilyלְהַצִּילָםle/hats/tsi/LAMto deliver themמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handsאוֹיְבֵיהֶםoy/ve/HEMof their enemiesלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeשָׁמַעsha/MAheardיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־זַעֲקָתָםet-za/a/ka/TAMtheir criesוַיְחַזְּקֵםvay/chaz/ze/KEMand strengthened themוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand there fellהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוְהָעַמְלִיסִיםve/Ha/am/li/SIMand the Amlicitesלִפְנֵיהֶם׃lif/ne/HEMbefore them

    Nevertheless, the Nephites being strengthened by the hand of the Lord, having prayed mightily to him that he would deliver them out of the hands of their enemies, therefore the Lord did hear their cries, and did strengthen them, and the Lamanites and the Amlicites did fall before them.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatנִלְחַםnil/CHAMfoughtאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaעִם־עַמְלִיסִיim-AM/li/siwith Amliciבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revby the swordפָּנִיםpa/NIMfaceאֶל־פָּנִיםel-pa/NIMto faceוַיִּלָּחֲמוּvay/yil/la/cha/MUand they contendedבְּחׇזְקָהbe/choz/KAmightilyאִישׁishoneבְּרֵעֵהוּ׃be/re/E/huwith another

    And it came to pass that Alma fought with Amlici with the sword, face to face; and they did contend mightily, one with another.

30. 30

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaבִּהְיוֹתוֹbih/yo/TObeingאִישׁisha manהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godמְלֻמָּדme/lum/MADexercisedבֶּאֱמוּנָהbe/e/mu/NAin faithרַבָּהrab/BAmuchוַיִּזְעַקvay/yiz/AKcriedלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָנָּאan/NAOיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiחוּסָהCHU/sahave mercyוְהַחֲיֵהve/ha/cha/YEand spareאֶת־נַפְשִׁיet-naf/SHImy lifeלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatאֶהְיֶהeh/YEI may beכְלִיkhe/LIan instrumentבְּיָדֶיךָbe/ya/DE/khain your handsלְהוֹשִׁיעַle/ho/SHI/ato saveוּלְהַצִּילu/le/hats/TSILand to preserveאֶת־הָעָםet-ha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּה׃haz/ZEthis

    And it came to pass that Alma, being a man of God, being exercised with much faith, cried, saying: O Lord, have mercy and spare my life, that I may be an instrument in thy hands to save and preserve this people.

31. 31

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכְּאׇמְרוֹke/om/ROwhen he saidאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיָּשׇׁבvay/YA/shovand he returnedלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightעִם־עַמְלִיסִיim-AM/li/siwith Amliciוַיִּתְחַזֵּקvay/yit/chaz/ZEKand was strengthenedעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהֲרָגוֹha/ra/GOhe slew himבַּחֶרֶב׃ba/CHE/revby the sword

    Now when Alma had said these words he contended again with Amlici; and he was strengthened, insomuch that he slew Amlici with the sword.

32. 32

    וַיִּלָּחֶםvay/yil/LA/chemand he foughtגַּםgamalsoעִם־מֶלֶךְim-ME/lekhwith the kingהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesוַיָּנׇסvay/YA/nosand fledמֶלֶךְME/lekhthe kingהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesמִלִּפְנֵיmil/lif/NEfrom beforeאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaוַיִּשְׁלַחvay/yish/LACHand he sentאֶת־שֹׁמְרָיוet-shom/RAYVhis guardsלְהִלָּחֵםle/hil/la/CHEMto fightבְּאַלְמָא׃be/AL/maagainst Alma

    And he also contended with the king of the Lamanites; but the king of the Lamanites fled back from before Alma and sent his guards to contend with Alma.

33. 33

    וַיִּלָּחֶםvay/yil/LA/chemand foughtאַלְמָאAL/maAlmaבְּשֹׁמְרָיוbe/shom/RAYVwith his guardsעִם־שֹׁמְרֵיim-shom/REwith the guardsמֶלֶךְME/lekhof the kingהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERuntilהֲרָגָםha/ra/GAMhe slew themוַיַּבְרִיחֵם׃vay/yav/ri/CHEMand drove them back

    But Alma, with his guards, contended with the guards of the king of the Lamanites until he slew and drove them back.

34. 34

    וַיְפַןvay/FANand he clearedאֶת־הָאֲדָמָהet-ha/a/da/MAthe groundאוֹoorיוֹתֵרyo/TERmoreנָכוֹןna/KHONcorrectlyאֶת־שְׂפַתet-se/FATthe bankהַנָּהָרhan/na/HARof the riverאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichמִמַּעֲרַבmim/ma/a/RAVon the westלִנְהַרlin/HARof the riverסִידוֹןSI/donof Sidonוַיַּשְׁלֵךְvay/yash/LEKHand he castאֶת־פִּגְרֵיet-pig/REthe bodiesהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMof the Lamanitesהַנֹּפְלִיםhan/nof/LIMwho had been slainבְּמֵיbe/MEinto the watersסִידוֹןSI/donof Sidonלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִהְיֶהyih/YEthere might beמָקוֹםma/KOMroomלְעַמּוֹle/am/MOfor his peopleלַעֲבֹרla/a/VORto pass overוּלְהִלָּחֵםu/le/hil/la/CHEMand to fightבַּלָּמָנִיםbal/La/ma/NIMagainst the Lamanitesוּבָעַמְלִיסִיםu/Va/am/li/SIMand the Amlicitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wereמִמַּעֲרַבmim/ma/a/RAVon the westלַנָּהָר׃lan/na/HARof the river

    And thus he cleared the ground, or rather the bank, which was on the west of the river Sidon, throwing the bodies of the Lamanites who had been slain into the waters of Sidon, that thereby his people might have room to cross and contend with the Lamanites and the Amlicites on the west side of the river Sidon.

35. 35

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERwhenעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassed overכֻלָּםkhul/LAMallאֶת־נְהַרet-ne/HARthe riverסִידוֹןSI/donof Sidonוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luthen beganהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesוְהָעַמְלִיסִיםve/Ha/am/li/SIMand the Amlicitesלָנוּסla/NUSto fleeמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMfrom before themאַף־כִּיaf-kinotwithstandingרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyהָיוּha/YUthey wereעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatלֹאlonotיִסָּפְרוּ׃yis/sa/fe/RUcould they be numbered

    And it came to pass that when they had all crossed the river Sidon that the Lamanites and the Amlicites began to flee before them, notwithstanding they were so numerous that they could not be numbered.

36. 36

    וַיָּנוּסוּvay/ya/NU/suand they fledמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEfrom beforeהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּרel-ham/mid/BARinto the wildernessאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wasיָמָּהYAM/mawestwardוְצָפוֹנָהve/tsa/FO/naand northwardמֵעֵבֶרme/E/verbeyondלִגְבוּלוֹתlig/vu/LOTthe bordersהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landוַיִּרְדְּפוּםvay/yir/de/FUMand pursued themהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesבְּכׇל־כֹּחָםbe/KHOL-ko/CHAMwith all their mightוַיַּהַרְגוּם׃vay/ya/har/GUMand slew them

    And they fled before the Nephites towards the wilderness which was west and north, away beyond the borders of the land; and the Nephites did pursue them with their might, and did slay them.

37. 37

    הֵןhenyeaפָּגְעוּpa/ge/Uthey metבָהֶםva/HEMthemמִכׇּל־עֵבֶרmik/KOL-E/veron every sideוַיֻּכּוּvay/yuk/KUand were smittenוַיִּנָּגְרוּvay/yin/na/ge/RUand drivenעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatנָפֹצוּna/FO/tsuthey were scatteredיָמָּהYAM/mawestwardוְצָפוֹנָהve/tsa/FO/naand northwardעַדaduntilהַגִּיעָםhag/gi/AMthey reachedאֶל־הַמִּדְבָּרel-ham/mid/BARthe wildernessהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAwhich was calledהֶרְמוּנְתְּסHER/mun/tesHermountsוְהוּאve/HUand it wasחֵלֶקCHE/leka partהַמִּדְבָּרham/mid/BARof the wildernessהַמָּלֵאham/ma/LEfullחַיּוֹתchay/YOTof beastsרָעוֹתra/OTwildוְטֹרְפוֹת׃ve/tor/FOTand ravenous

    Yea, they were met on every hand, and slain and driven, until they were scattered on the west, and on the north, until they had reached the wilderness, which was called Hermounts; and it was that part of the wilderness which was infested by wild and ravenous beasts.

38. 38

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּיkithatמֵתוּME/tudiedרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessמִפִּצְעֵיהֶםmip/pits/e/HEMof their woundsוַיֵּאָכְלוּvay/ye/a/khe/LUand were devouredבְּיַדbe/YADbyהַחַיּוֹתha/chay/YOTthe beastsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְגַםve/GAMand alsoנִשְׁרֵיnish/REthe vulturesהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimof the airוְעַצְמוֹתֵיהֶםve/ats/mo/te/HEMand their bonesנִמְצְאוּnim/tse/Uwere foundוַיִּצָּבְרוּvay/yits/tsa/ve/RUand were heaped upעַל־הָאָרֶץ׃al-ha/A/retsupon the earth

    And it came to pass that many died in the wilderness of their wounds, and were devoured by those beasts and also the vultures of the air; and their bones have been found, and have been heaped up on the earth.
