   And it came to pass that he commanded them that they should write the words which the Father had given unto Malachi, which he should tell unto them. And it came to pass that after they were written he expounded them. And these are the words which he did tell unto them, saying: Thus said the Father unto Malachi—Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me, and the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in; behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of Hosts.

   וּמִיu/MIand whoמְכַלְכֵּלme/khal/KELcan endureאֶת־יוֹםet-yomthe dayבּוֹאוֹbo/Oof His comingוּמִיu/MIand whoהָעֹמֵדha/o/MEDthe one who standsבְּהֵרָאוֹתוֹbe/he/ra/o/TOwhen He appearsכִּי־הוּאki-hufor He isכְּאֵשׁke/ESHlike the fireמְצָרֵףme/tsa/REFof refinerוּכְבֹרִיתu/khe/vo/RITand like the soapמְכַבְּסִים׃me/khab/be/SIMof fullers

   But who may abide the day of his coming, and who shall stand when he appeareth? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fuller’s soap.

   וְיָשַׁבve/ya/SHAVand he shall sitמְצָרֵףme/tsa/REFrefinerוּמְטַהֵרu/me/ta/HERand purifierכֶּסֶףKE/sefof silverוְטִהַרve/ti/HARand he shall purifyאֶת־בְּנֵי־לֵוִיet-Be/NE-le/VIsons of Leviוְזִקַּקve/zik/KAKand refineאֹתָםo/TAMthemכַּזָּהָבkaz/za/HAVas the goldוְכַכָּסֶףve/khak/KA/sefand like the silverוְהָיוּve/ha/YUthen they shall beלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito Adonaiמַגִּישֵׁיmag/gi/SHEthat offerמִנְחָהmin/CHAan offeringבִּצְדָקָה׃bits/da/KAin righteousness

   And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

4. 4

   וְעָרְבָהve/a/re/VAand shall be pleasantלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaito Adonaiמִנְחַתmin/CHATthe offeringיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAof JudahוִירוּשָׁלָיִםVi/ru/sha/LA/yimand Jerusalemכִּימֵיki/MEas in the daysעוֹלָםo/LAMof oldוּכְשָׁנִיםu/khe/sha/NIMand as in yearsקַדְמֹנִיֹּת׃kad/mo/niy/YOTformer

   Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.

   וְקָרַבְתִּיve/ka/rav/TIand I will draw nearאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youלַמִּשְׁפָּטlam/mish/PATto the judgmentוְהָיִיתִיve/ha/YI/tiand I will beעֵדedwitnessמְמַהֵרme/ma/HERswiftבַּמְכַשְּׁפִיםbam/khash/she/FIMagainst sorcerersוּבַמְנָאֲפִיםu/vam/na/a/FIMand against adulterersוּבַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםu/van/nish/ba/IMand against those who swearלַשָּׁקֶרlash/SHA/kerfalselyוּבְעֹשְׁקֵיu/ve/osh/KEand against those that oppressשְׂכַר־שָׂכִירse/KHAR-sa/KHIRthe hireling in his wagesאַלְמָנָהal/ma/NAa widowוְיָתוֹםve/ya/TOMand a fatherless oneוּמַטֵּי־גֵרu/mat/TE-gerand that turn aside the strangerוְלֹאve/LOand notיְרֵאוּנִיye/re/U/nifear meאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

   And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger, and fear not me, saith the Lord of Hosts.

   כִּיkiforאֲנִיa/NIIיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiלֹאlonotשָׁנִיתִיsha/NI/tiI changedוְאַתֶּםve/at/TEMand youבְּנֵי־יַעֲקֹבbe/NE-ya/a/KOVsons of Jacobלֹאlonotכְלִיתֶם׃khe/li/TEMare consumed

   For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

7. 7

   לְמִימֵיle/MI/mefrom daysאֲבֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMof your fathersסַרְתֶּםsar/TEMyou are gone awayמֵחֻקַּיme/chuk/KAYfrom my ordinancesוְלֹאve/LOand notשְׁמַרְתֶּםshe/mar/TEMkept themשׁוּבוּSHU/vureturnאֵלַיe/LAYunto meוְאָשׁוּבָהve/a/SHU/vaand I will returnאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youאָמַרa/MARsaithיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMbut you sayבַּמֶּהbam/MEwhereinנָשׁוּב׃na/SHUVshall we return

   Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of Hosts. But ye say: Wherein shall we return?

8. 8

   הֲיִקְבַּעha/yik/BAwill robאָדָםa/DAMmanאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodכִּיkiyetאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areקֹבְעִיםkov/IMare robbingאֹתִיo/TImeוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayבַּמֶּהbam/MEwhereinקְבַעֲנוּךָke/va/a/NU/khahave we robbed youהַמַּעֲשֵׂרham/ma/a/SERin tithesוְהַתְּרוּמָה׃ve/hat/te/ru/MAand offerings

   Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say: Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

9. 9

   בַּמְּאֵרָהbam/me/e/RAwith the curseאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areנֵאָרִיםne/a/RIMare cursedוְאֹתִיve/o/TIand meאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areקֹבְעִיםkov/IMare robbingהַגּוֹיhag/GOYthe nationכֻּלּוֹ׃kul/LOentirely

   Ye are cursed with a curse, for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.

10. 10

    הָבִיאוּha/VI/ubringאֶת־כׇּל־הַמַּעֲשֵׂרet-kol-ham/ma/a/SERall the titheאֶל־בֵּיתel-betto the houseהָאוֹצָרha/o/TSARof the treasuryוִיהִיvi/HIand may beטֶרֶףTE/refmeatבְּבֵיתִיbe/ve/TIin my houseוּבְחָנוּנִיu/ve/cha/NU/niand prove meנָאnaI prayבָּזֹאתba/ZOTin thisאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsאִם־לֹאim-loif notאֶפְתַּחef/TACHI shall openלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֵת־אֲרֻבּוֹתet-a/rub/BOTwindowsהַשָּׁמַיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוַהֲרִיקֹתִיva/ha/ri/ko/TIand I will pour outלָכֶםla/KHEMto youבְּרָכָהbe/ra/KHAa blessingעַד־בְּלִי־דָי׃ad-be/LI-dayuntil there is not enough

    Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house; and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

11. 11

    וְגָעַרְתִּיve/ga/ar/TIand I shall rebukeלָכֶםla/KHEMto youבָּאֹכֵלba/o/KHELthe devourerוְלֹא־יַשְׁחִתve/LO-yash/CHITand he shall not destroyלָכֶםla/KHEMto youאֶת־פְּרִיet-pe/RIthe fruitsהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAof your groundוְלֹא־תְשַׁכֵּלve/LO-te/shak/KELand shall not cast her fruitלָכֶםla/KHEMto youהַגֶּפֶןhag/GE/fenthe vineבַּשָּׂדֶהbas/sa/DEin the fieldאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the fields, saith the Lord of Hosts.

12. 12

    וְאִשְּׁרוּve/ish/she/RUand they will call blessedאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִםkol-hag/go/YIMall the nationsכִּי־תִהְיוּki-tih/YUfor you shall beאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areאֶרֶץE/retsthe landחֵפֶץCHE/fetsdelightsomeאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    And all nations shall call you blessed, for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of Hosts.

13. 13

    חָזְקוּcha/ze/KUhave been stoutעָלַיa/LAYagainst meדִּבְרֵיכֶםdiv/re/KHEMyour wordsאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַאֲמַרְתֶּםva/a/mar/TEMand you shall sayמַה־נִּדְבַּרְנוּma-nid/BAR/nuwhat have we spoken togetherעָלֶיךָ׃a/LE/khaagainst you

    Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say: What have we spoken against thee?

14. 14

    אֲמַרְתֶּםa/mar/TEMyou saidשָׁוְאshavvainעֲבֹדa/VODto serveאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוּמַה־בֶּצַעu/MA-BE/tsaand what profitכִּיkithatשָׁמַרְנוּsha/MAR/nuwe keptמִשְׁמַרְתּוֹmish/mar/TOhis ordinancesוְכִיve/KHIand thatהָלַכְנוּha/LAKH/nuwe wentקְדֹרַנִּיתke/do/ran/NITmournfullyמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹת׃Tse/va/OTof Hosts

    Ye have said: It is vain to serve God, and what doth it profit that we have kept his ordinances and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of Hosts?

15. 15

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֲנַחְנוּa/NACH/nuweמְאַשְּׁרִיםme/ash/she/RIMcall blessedזֵדִיםze/DIMthe proudגַּם־נִבְנוּgam-niv/NUyea they are set upעֹשֵׂיo/SEdoersרִשְׁעָהrish/Aof iniquityגַּםgamalsoבָּחֲנוּba/cha/NUthey temptedאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוַיִּמָּלֵטוּ׃vay/yim/ma/LE/tuand are delivered

    And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.

16. 16

    אָזazthenנִדְבְּרוּnid/be/RUthey spokeיִרְאֵיyir/Ethose who fearיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiאִישׁisha manאֶל־רֵעֵהוּel-re/E/huto his neighborוַיַּקְשֵׁבvay/yak/SHEVand hearkenedיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַיִּשְׁמָעvay/yish/MAand he heardוַיִּכָּתֵבvay/yik/ka/TEVand there was writtenסֵפֶרSE/fera bookזִכָּרוֹןzik/ka/RONof remembranceלְפָנָיוle/fa/NAYVbefore himלְיִרְאֵיle/yir/Efor those who fearיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiוּלְחֹשְׁבֵיu/le/chosh/VEand that thought uponשְׁמוֹ׃she/MOhis name

    Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another, and the Lord hearkened and heard; and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.

17. 17

    וְהָיוּve/ha/YUthen they shall beלִיlito meאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsלַיּוֹםlay/YOMin the dayאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאֲנִיa/NIIעֹשֶׂהo/SEdoסְגֻלָּהse/gul/LAmy jewelsוְחָמַלְתִּיve/cha/mal/TIand I will spareעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיַחְמֹלyach/MOLsparesאִישׁisha manעַל־בְּנוֹal-be/NOupon his sonהָעֹבֵדha/o/VEDthat servesאֹתוֹ׃o/TOhim

    And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of Hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.

18. 18

    וְשַׁבְתֶּםve/shav/TEMand you will returnוּרְאִיתֶםu/re/i/TEMand discernבֵּיןbenbetweenצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousלְרָשָׁעle/ra/SHAwickedבֵּיןbenbetweenעֹבֵדo/VEDhim that servesאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERunto him whoלֹאlonotעֲבָדוֹ׃a/va/DOserved him

    Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
