   And it came to pass that thus passed away the ninety and fifth year also, and the people began to forget those signs and wonders which they had heard, and began to be less and less astonished at a sign or a wonder from heaven, insomuch that they began to be hard in their hearts, and blind in their minds, and began to disbelieve all which they had heard and seen—

   Imagining up some vain thing in their hearts, that it was wrought by men and by the power of the devil, to lead away and deceive the hearts of the people; and thus did Satan get possession of the hearts of the people again, insomuch that he did blind their eyes and lead them away to believe that the doctrine of Christ was a foolish and a vain thing.

   And it came to pass that the people began to wax strong in wickedness and abominations; and they did not believe that there should be any more signs or wonders given; and Satan did go about, leading away the hearts of the people, tempting them and causing them that they should do great wickedness in the land.

   And thus did pass away the ninety and sixth year; and also the ninety and seventh year; and also the ninety and eighth year; and also the ninety and ninth year;

   וְגַםve/GAMand alsoמֵאָהme/Aa hundredשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassed awayמִימֵיMI/meeven from the daysמוֹשִׁיָּהMo/SHIY/yaof Mosiahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoמָלַךְma/LAKHreignedעַל־עַםal-amover the peopleהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephites

   And also an hundred years had passed away since the days of Mosiah, who was king over the people of the Nephites.

   וַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand passedשֵׁשׁsheshsixמֵאוֹתme/OThundredוָתֵשַׁעva/TE/shaand nineשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsמֵעֵתme/ETfrom the timeצֵאתtsetof the going outלֶחִיLE/chiof Lehiמִירוּשָׁלָיִם׃mI/ru/sha/LA/yimfrom Jerusalem

   And six hundred and nine years had passed away since Lehi left Jerusalem.

   וְתֵשַׁעve/TE/shaand nineשָׁנִיםsha/NIMyearsעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassed awayמֵעֵתme/ETfrom the timeנִתַּןnit/TANwas givenהָאוֹתha/OTthe signאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבְּרוּdib/be/RUspokeהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsכִּיkithatיָבוֹאya/VOshall comeהַמָּשִׁיחַHam/ma/SHI/achChristאֶל־הָעוֹלָם׃el-ha/o/LAMto the world

   And nine years had passed away from the time when the sign was given, which was spoken of by the prophets, that Christ should come into the world.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowהֵחֵלּוּhe/CHEL/lubeganהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesלִמְנוֹתlim/NOTto reckonאֶת־זְמַנָּםet-ze/man/NAMtheir timeמֵהָעֵתme/ha/ETfrom the timeהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתַּןnit/TANwas givenהָאוֹתha/OTthe signאוֹoorמִבּוֹאmib/BOfrom the comingהַמָּשִׁיחַham/Ma/SHI/achof Christלָכֵןla/KHENthereforeעָבְרוּa/ve/RUpassed awayתֵּשַׁעTE/shanineשָׁנִים׃sha/NIMyears

   Now the Nephites began to reckon their time from this period when the sign was given, or from the coming of Christ; therefore, nine years had passed away.

   וְנֶפִיve/NE/fiand Nephiאֲבִיa/VIthe fatherנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהׇפְקַדhof/KADwas appointedעַל־הַסְּפָרִיםal-has/se/fa/RIMover the recordsלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavdid not returnאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsto the landזָרַהֶמְלָהZa/ra/HEM/laof Zarahemlaוְלֹאve/LOand notנִמְצָאnim/TSAwas foundבְּכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃be/KHOL-ha/A/retsin all the land

   And Nephi, who was the father of Nephi, who had the charge of the records, did not return to the land of Zarahemla, and could nowhere be found in all the land.

    וַיִּשָּׁאֵרvay/yish/sha/ERand remainedהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבְּרִשְׁעָתָםbe/rish/a/TAMin their wickednessאַף־גַּם־זֹאתaf-gam-zotnotwithstandingהַקְּרִיאָהhak/ke/ri/Athe preachingוּנְבוּאָהu/ne/vu/Aand prophesyingרַבָּהrab/BAgreatאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִשְׁלְחָהnish/le/CHAwas sentבֵּינֵיהֶםbe/ne/HEMamong themוַתַּעֲבֹרvat/ta/a/VORand passedכֵּןkenthusגַּםgamalsoהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהָעֲשִׂירִיתha/a/si/RITthe tenthוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהָאַחַתha/a/CHATthe oneעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenעָבְרָהa/ve/RApassed awayבְּעָוֹן׃be/a/VONin iniquity

    And it came to pass that the people did still remain in wickedness, notwithstanding the much preaching and prophesying which was sent among them; and thus passed away the tenth year also; and the eleventh year also passed away in iniquity.

    And it came to pass in the thirteenth year there began to be wars and contentions throughout all the land; for the Gadianton robbers had become so numerous, and did slay so many of the people, and did lay waste so many cities, and did spread so much death and carnage throughout the land, that it became expedient that all the people, both the Nephites and the Lamanites, should take up arms against them.

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכׇּל־הַלָּמָנִיםkol-Hal/la/ma/NIMall the Lamanitesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoשָׁבוּSHA/vuwere convertedאֶל־יְהוָהel-Adonaito Adonaiהִתְחַבְּרוּhit/chab/be/RUwere unitedעִם־אֲחֵיהֶםim-a/che/HEMwith their brethrenהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesוַיְאֻלְּצוּvay/ul/le/TSUand they were compelledלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatהַצָּלַתhats/tsa/LATthe deliveranceחַיֵּיהֶםchay/ye/HEMof their livesוּנְשֵׁיהֶםu/ne/she/HEMand their wivesוְטַפָּםve/tap/PAMand their childrenלָשֵׂאתla/SETto bearכְּלֵיke/LEweaponsמִלְחָמָהmil/cha/MAof warנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstשׁוֹדְדֵיSHOD/derobbersגָּדִיאַנְטוֹןGa/di/AN/tonof Gadiantonאַףafyeaוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־מִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶםet-mish/pe/te/HEMtheir rightsוְחֻקּוֹתve/chuk/KOTand privilegesעֲדָתָםa/da/TAMof their churchוַעֲבוֹדָתָםva/a/vo/da/TAMand their worshipוּדְרוֹרָםu/de/ro/RAMand their libertyוְחֵרוּתָם׃ve/che/ru/TAMand their freedom

    Therefore, all the Lamanites who had become converted unto the Lord did unite with their brethren, the Nephites, and were compelled, for the safety of their lives and their women and their children, to take up arms against those Gadianton robbers, yea, and also to maintain their rights, and the privileges of their church and of their worship, and their freedom and their liberty.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeעָבְרָהa/ve/RApassed awayהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהַשְּׁלֹשׁhash/she/LOSHthe threeעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenוַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand wereהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesקְרוֹבִיםke/ro/VIMnearלְהִכָּחֵדle/hik/ka/CHEDto be destroyedבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe warהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקָשְׁתָהka/she/TAbecame severeמְאֹד׃me/ODexceedingly

    And it came to pass that before this thirteenth year had passed away the Nephites were threatened with utter destruction because of this war, which had become exceedingly sore.

14. 14

    וַיִּמָּנוּvay/yim/ma/NUand were numberedהַלָּמָנִיםhal/La/ma/NIMthe Lamanitesהָהֵםha/HEMthoseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהִתְחַבְּרוּhit/chab/be/RUwere unitedעִם־הַנֶּפִיִּיםim-Han/ne/fiy/YIMwith the Nephitesבֵּיןbenamongהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephites

    And it came to pass that those Lamanites who had united with the Nephites were numbered among the Nephites;

15. 15

    וַתּוּסַרvat/tu/SARand was removedקִלְלָתָםkil/la/TAMtheir curseמֵעֲלֵיהֶםme/a/le/HEMfrom off themוַיְהִיvay/HIand becameעוֹרָםo/RAMtheir skinsלָבָןla/VANwhiteכְּעוֹרke/ORas a skinהַנֶּפִיִּים׃han/Ne/fiy/YIMof the Nephites

    And their curse was taken from them, and their skin became white like unto the Nephites;

16. 16

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereבַחוּרֵיהֶםva/chu/re/HEMtheir young menוּבְנוֹתֵיהֶםu/ve/no/te/HEMand their daughtersיְפֵיye/FEfair onesתֹאַרTO/arof formמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyוַיִּמָּנוּvay/yim/ma/NUand were numberedבֵּיןbenamongהַנֶּפִיִּיםhan/Ne/fiy/YIMthe Nephitesוַיִּקָּרְאוּvay/yik/ka/re/Uand they were calledנֶפִיִּיםNe/fiy/YIMNephitesוַתִּתֹּםvat/tit/TOMand thus endedהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהַשְּׁלֹשׁhash/she/LOSHthe threeעֶשְׂרֵה׃es/REten

    And their young men and their daughters became exceedingly fair, and they were numbered among the Nephites, and were called Nephites. And thus ended the thirteenth year.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it wasבִּתְחִלַּתbit/chil/LATin the startהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAof the yearהָאַרְבַּעha/ar/BAthe fourעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenוַתֶּאֱרַךְvat/te/e/RAKHand continuedהַמִּלְחָמָהham/mil/cha/MAthe warבֵּיןbenbetweenהַשּׁוֹדְדִיםhash/shod/DIMthe robbersוְעַםve/AMand the peopleנֶפִיNE/fiof Nephiוַתִּקֶשׁvat/TI/keshand became severeמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyאַךְakhneverthelessהִשִּׂיגוּhis/SI/guobtainedעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiיִתְרוֹןyit/RONan advantageמָהmasomeעַלaloverהַשּׁוֹדְדִיםhash/shod/DIMthe robbersעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatגֵּרְשׁוּםger/SHUMthey cast outמֵאַרְצָםme/ar/TSAMout of their landאֶל־הֶהָרִיםel-he/ha/RIMto the mountainsוְאֶל־מְקוֹמוֹתve/EL-me/ko/MOTand to the placesסִתְרָם׃sit/RAMof their secret

    And it came to pass in the commencement of the fourteenth year, the war between the robbers and the people of Nephi did continue and did become exceedingly sore; nevertheless, the people of Nephi did gain some advantage of the robbers, insomuch that they did drive them back out of their lands into the mountains and into their secret places.

    וַתִּתֹּםvat/tit/TOMand thus endedהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהָאַרְבַּעha/ar/BAthe fourעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenוּבַשָּׁנָהu/vash/sha/NAand in the yearהַחֲמֵשׁha/cha/MESHthe fiveעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenיָצְאוּya/tse/Uwent forthנֶגֶדNE/gedagainstעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fithe people of Nephiוּבִגְלַלu/vig/LALand becauseרִשְׁעַתrish/ATof wickednessעַם־נֶפִיam-NE/fiof the people of Nephiוּמְרִיבוֹתֵיהֶםu/me/ri/vo/te/HEMand their contentionsוּמַחְלְקוֹתֵיהֶםu/mach/le/ko/te/HEMand their divisionsהָרַבּוֹתha/rab/BOTthe manyהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasלְשׁוֹדְדֵיle/SHOD/deto the robbersגָּדִיאַנְטוֹןGa/di/AN/tonof Gadiantonיָדyada handחֲזָקָהcha/za/KAstrongעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMupon them

    And thus ended the fourteenth year. And in the fifteenth year they did come forth against the people of Nephi; and because of the wickedness of the people of Nephi, and their many contentions and dissensions, the Gadianton robbers did gain many advantages over them.

    וַתִּתֹּםvat/tit/TOMand thus endedהַשָּׁנָהhash/sha/NAthe yearהַחֲמֵשׁha/cha/MESHthe fiveעֶשְׂרֵהes/REtenוְכֵןve/KHENand thusהָיוּha/YUwereהָעָםha/AMthe peopleבְּצָרוֹתbe/tsa/ROTin a state of afflictionsרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyוְחֶרֶבve/CHE/revand the swordהַשְׁחָתָהhash/cha/TAof destructionתְּלוּיָהte/lu/YAhangingמֵעֲלֵיהֶםme/a/le/HEMover themעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatנָכוֹנוּna/KHO/nuthey were readyלִנְפֹּלlin/POLto fallבָּהּbawherebyוְזֹאתve/ZOTand this isבַּעֲבוּרba/a/VURbecause ofעֲוֹנָם׃a/vo/NAMtheir iniquity

    And thus ended the fifteenth year, and thus were the people in a state of many afflictions; and the sword of destruction did hang over them, insomuch that they were about to be smitten down by it, and this because of their iniquity.
