   אָמֵןverilyאָמֵןverilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIחָפַצְתִּיI wouldכִּיthatתִתְּנוּyou should giveצְדָקָהalmsלָעֲנִיִּיםunto the poorאַךְbutהִשָּׁמְרוּtake heedלְכֶםto yourselvesמֵעֲשׂוֹתfrom doingצִדְקַתְכֶםyour almsלִפְנֵיbeforeהָאֲנָשִׁיםmenלְמַעַןthatיִרְאוּכֶםthey may see youוְאִם־כֵּןotherwiseאֵיןthere is noלָכֶםto youשָׂכָרrewardמֵאֵתfromאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּשָּׁמָיִם׃in the heavens

   Verily, verily, I say that I would that ye should do alms unto the poor; but take heed that ye do not your alms before men to be seen of them; otherwise ye have no reward of your Father who is in heaven.

   לָכֵןthereforeבַּעֲשׂוֹתְכֶםwhen you doצְדָקָהalmsאַל־תַּחְצְרוּdo not soundבַּחֲצֹצְרָהa trumpetלִפְנֵיכֶםbefore youכַּאֲשֶׁרasיַעֲשׂוּwill doהַחֲנֵפִיםthe hypocritesבְּבָתֵּיin the houses ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogueוּבַשְּׁוָקִיםand in the streetsלְמַעַןthatיְכַבְּדוּםmay glorify themהָאֲנָשִׁיםmenאָמֵןverilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםto youהִנֵּהbeholdשְׂכָרָם׃their reward

   Therefore, when ye shall do your alms do not sound a trumpet before you, as will hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

   וְאַתָּהbut thouבַּעֲשׂוֹתְךָwhen thou doestצְדָקָהalmsאַל־תֵּדַעlet not knowשְׂמֹאלְךָyour left handאֵתthatאֲשֶׁר־תַּעֲשֶׂהwhich doethיְמִינֶךָ׃your right hand

   But when thou doest alms let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth;

   לְמַעַןthatתִּהְיֶהmay beצִדְקָתְךָyour almsבַּסָּתֶרin secretוְאָבִיךָand your Fatherהָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּסֵּתֶרin secretהוּאhimselfיִגְמָלְךָshall reward youבַּגָּלוּי׃openly

   That thine alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself shall reward thee openly.

   וּבְהִתְפַּלֶּלְךָand when you prayאַל־תַּעַשׂdo notכַּחֲנֵפִיםas the hypocritesכִּיforאָהֲבוּthey loveלְהִתְפַּלֵּלto prayעֹמְדִיםstandingבְּבָתֵּיin the houses ofהַכְּנֵסֶתthe synagogueוּבְקַרְנוֹתand in the corners ofהַשְּׁוָקִיםthe streetsלְמַעַןthatיֵרָאוּthey may be seenלָאֲנָשִׁיםof menאָמֵןverilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםto youהִנֵּהbeholdשְׂכָרָם׃their reward

   And when thou prayest thou shalt not do as the hypocrites, for they love to pray, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

   וְאַתָּהbut thouבְּהִתְפַּלֶּלְךָwhen you prayבֹּאenterבַחֲדָרֶךָinto your closetוּסְגֹרand shutדַּלְתְּךָyour doorבַּעֲדֶךָbehind youוְהִתְפַּלֵּלand prayאֶל־אָבִיךָto your Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּסָּתֶרin secretוְאָבִיךָand your Fatherהָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּסֵּתֶרin secretיִגְמָלְךָshall reward youבַּגָּלוּי׃openly

   But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

7. 7

   וּבְהִתְפַּלֶּלְכֶםbut when you prayאַל־תַּרְבּוּuse notדְבָרִיםvain repetitionsכַּגּוֹיִםas the heathenכִּיforחֹשְׁבִיםthinkהֵםtheyכִּיthatבְּרֹבfor muchדִּבְרֵיהֶםtheir speakingיִשָּׁמֵעוּ׃they shall be heard

   But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8. 8

   לָכֵןthereforeאַל־תִּדְמוּbe not likeלָהֶםunto themכִּיforיוֹדֵעַknowethאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherאֶת־אֲשֶׁרwhat thingsתַּחְסְרוּyou have need ofבְּטֶרֶםbeforeתִּשְׁאָלוּyou askמִמֶּנּוּ׃from him

   Be not ye therefore like unto them, for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask him.

9. 9

   וְכָכָהand after this mannerתִתְפַּלְלוּpray yeאָבִינוּour Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenיִתְקַדַּשׁhallowed beשְׁמֶךָ׃your name

   After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

10. 10

    יֵעָשֶׂהbe doneרְצוֹנְךָyour willבָּאָרֶץon earthכַּאֲשֶׁרasנַעֲשָׂהit is doneבַשָּׁמָיִם׃in heaven

    Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

11. 11

    וּסְלַחand forgiveלָנוּunto usאֶת־חוֹבוֹתֵינוּour debtsכַּאֲשֶׁרasסָלַחְנוּwe forgiveלְחַיָּבֵינוּ׃our debtors

    And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

12. 12

    וְאַל־תְּבִיאֵנוּand lead us notלִידֵיintoנִסָּיוֹןtemptationכִּי־אִםbutהַצִּילֵנוּdeliver usמִן־הָרָע׃from evil

    And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

13. 13

    כִּיforלְךָthine isהַמַּמְלָכָהthe kingdomוְהַגְּבוּרָהand the powerוְהַתִּפְאֶרֶתand the gloryלְעוֹלָמִיםforeverאָמֵן׃Amen

    For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

14. 14

    כִּיforאִם־תִּסְלְחוּif you forgiveלַאֲנָשִׁיםmenאֶת־פִּשְׁעֵיהֶםtheir trespassesיִסְלַחwill forgiveלָכֶםto youגַּם־אֲבִיכֶםyour Father alsoאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּשָּׁמָיִם׃in the heavens

    For, if ye forgive men their trespasses your heavenly Father will also forgive you;

15. 15

    וְאִם־לֹאand if notתִסְלְחוּyou forgiveלַאֲנָשִׁיםmenאֶת־פִּשְׁעֵיהֶםtheir trespassesגַּם־אֲבִיכֶםyour Father alsoלֹא־יִסְלַחwill not forgiveלָכֶםto youאֶת־פִּשְׁעֵיכֶם׃your trespasses

    But if ye forgive not men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16. 16

    וְעוֹדmoreoverבְּצוּמְכֶםwhen you fastאַל־תִּהְיוּbe notכַּחֲנֵפִיםas the hypocritesזֹעֲפֵיof a sadפָנִיםcountenanceכִּיforמְשַׁנִּיםthey disfigureאֶת־פְּנֵיהֶםtheir facesלְמַעַןthatיֵרָאוּthey may appearלָאֲנָשִׁיםunto menצָמִיםto fastאָמֵןverilyאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםto youהִנֵּהbeholdשְׂכָרָם׃their reward

    Moreover, when ye fast be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.

17. 17

    וְאַתָּהbut youבְּצוּמְךָwhen you fastסוּךְanointרֹאשְׁךָyour headוּרְחַץand washפָּנֶיךָ׃your face

    But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face;

18. 18

    לְמַעַןthatלֹאnotתֵרָאֶהyou appearלָאֲנָשִׁיםunto menצָםto fastכִּי־אִםbutלְאָבִיךָunto your Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּסָּתֶרin secretוְאָבִיךָand your Fatherהָרֹאֶהwhich seethבַּסֵּתֶרin secretיִגְמָלְךָshall reward youבַּגָּלוּי׃openly

    That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father, who is in secret; and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

19. 19

    אַל־תַּאַצְרוּlay not upלָכֶםfor yourselvesאוֹצָרוֹתtreasuresבָּאָרֶץon earthאֲשֶׁרwhereעָשׁmothוְרָקָבand rustיַשְׁחִיתוּdoth corruptוַאֲשֶׁרand whereגַּנָּבִיםthievesיַחְתְּרוּbreak throughוְיִגְנֹבוּ׃and steal

    Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and thieves break through and steal;

20. 20

    אַךְbutאִצְרוּlay upלָכֶםfor yourselvesאוֹצָרוֹתtreasuresבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenאֲשֶׁרwhereלֹא־עָשׁneither mothוְלֹאand notרָקָבrustיַשְׁחִיתוּdoth corruptוַאֲשֶׁרand whereגַּנָּבִיםthievesלֹאnotיַחְתְּרוּbreak throughוְלֹאand notיִגְנֹבוּ׃steal

    But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

21. 21

    כִּיforבַּאֲשֶׁרwhereאוֹצַרְכֶםyour treasureשָׁםthereיִהְיֶהshall beגַּם־לְבַבְכֶם׃your heart also

    For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22. 22

    נֵרthe light ofהַגְּוִיָּהthe bodyהָעָיִןis the eyeלָכֵןthereforeאִם־עֵינְךָif your eyeתְמִימָהbe singleכׇּל־גְּוִיָּתְךָyour whole bodyתִּהְיֶהit shall beמְלֵאָהfull ofאוֹר׃light

    The light of the body is the eye; if, therefore, thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23. 23

    וְאִם־עֵינְךָbut if your eyeרָעָהbe evilכׇּל־גְּוִיָּתְךָyour whole bodyתִּהְיֶהit shall beמְלֵאָהfull ofחֹשֶׁךְdarknessלָכֵןthereforeאִם־הָאוֹרif the lightאֲשֶׁר־בְּךָwhich is in youחֹשֶׁךְdarknessהוּאisמַה־רַבhow greatהַחֹשֶׁךְ׃the darkness

    But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If, therefore, the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24. 24

    לֹא־יוּכַלcannotאִישׁa manלַעֲבֹדserveשְׁנֵיtwoאֲדֹנִיםmastersכִּיforאִם־יִשְׂנָאeither he will hateאֶת־הָאֶחָדthe oneוְיֶאֱהַבand loveאֶת־הָאַחֵרthe otherאוֹor elseיַחֲזִיקhe will hold toבָּאֶחָדthe oneוְיִבְזֶהand despiseאֶת־הָאַחֵרthe otherלֹאnotתוּכְלוּyou canלַעֲבֹדserveאֶת־הָאֱלֹהִיםGodוְאֶת־הַמָּמוֹן׃and Mammon

    No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon.

25. 25

    וַיְהִיand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenדִּבֶּרhad spokenיֵשׁוּעַJesusאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהtheseוַיַּבֵּטand he lookedאֶל־שְׁנֵיםto the twoהֶעָשָׂרtenאֲשֶׁרwhichבָּחַרhe had chosenוַיֹּאמֶרand saidאֲלֵיהֶםunto themזִכְרוּrememberאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםthe wordsאֲשֶׁרwhichדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenכִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdאַתֶּםyouאֲשֶׁרwhichבְּחַרְתִּיI have chosenלְשָׁרֵתto ministerאֶת־הָעָםthe peopleהַזֶּהthisלָכֵןthereforeאֹמֵרsayאֲנִיIלָכֶםto youאַל־תִּדְאֲגוּtake no thoughtלְנַפְשְׁכֶםfor your lifeמַה־תֹּאכְלוּwhat you shall eatוּמַה־תִּשְׁתּוּand what you shall drinkוְאַלnor yetלִגְוִיַּתְכֶםfor your bodyמַה־תִּלְבָּשׁוּwhat you shall put onהֲלֹאis notהַנֶּפֶשׁthe soulיְקָרָהmore preciousמִן־הָאֹכֶלthan meatוְהַגְּוִיָּהand the bodyמִן־הַלְּבוּשׁ׃than raiment

    And now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked upon the twelve whom he had chosen, and said unto them: Remember the words which I have spoken. For behold, ye are they whom I have chosen to minister unto this people. Therefore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

26. 26

    הַבִּיטוּbeholdאֶל־עוֹףthe fowls ofהַשָּׁמַיִםthe airכִּי־לֹאfor notיִזְרְעוּthey sowוְלֹאneitherיִקְצְרוּdo they reapוְלֹאnorיַאַסְפוּgatherלַאֲסָמִיםinto barnsוַאֲבִיכֶםyet your Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhich isבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenמְכַלְכֵּלfeedethאֹתָםthemהֲלֹאare you notאַתֶּםyouטוֹבִיםbetterמֵהֶם׃than they

    Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

27. 27

    מִיwhoמִכֶּםfrom youיוּכַלcanלְהוֹסִיףto addעַל־קוֹמָתוֹupon his statureאַמָּהa cubitאַחַתoneבְּדַאֲגָתוֹ׃by his taking thought

    Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

28. 28

    וְלָמָּהand whyתִדְאֲגוּtake ye thoughtלַלְּבוּשׁfor raimentהִתְבּוֹנְנוּconsiderאֶל־שׁוֹשַׁנֵּיthe lilies ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldאֵיךְhowיִצְמָחוּthey growלֹאnotיַעַמְלוּthey toilוְלֹאand notיִטְווּ׃do they spin

    And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin;

29. 29

    וַאֲנִיand Iאֹמֵרsayלָכֶםto youכִּיthatגַם־שְׁלֹמֹהalso Solomonבְּכׇל־הֲדָרוֹin all his gloryלֹא־הָיָהwas notלָבוּשׁarrayedכְּאַחַתas oneמֵהֵנָּה׃of these

    And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon, in all his glory, was not arrayed like one of these.

30. 30

    וְאִם־כָּכָהwherefore if thusמַלְבִּישׁclotheאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־חֲצִירthe grass ofהַשָּׂדֶהthe fieldאֲשֶׁרwhichהַיּוֹםtodayצֹמֵחַisוּמָחָרand tomorrowיֻשְׁלַךְshall be castלַתַּנּוּרinto the ovenאַףeven soהוּאheיַלְבִּישׁhe shall clotheאֶתְכֶםyouאִם־לֹאif notקְטַנֵּיof littleאֱמוּנָהfaithאַתֶּם׃you

    Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, even so will he clothe you, if ye are not of little faith.

31. 31

    לָכֵןthereforeאַל־תִּדְאֲגוּtake no thoughtלֵאמֹרsayingמַה־נֹּאכַלwhat shall we eatאוֹorמַה־נִּשְׁתֶּהwhat shall we drinkאוֹorמַה־נִּלְבָּשׁ׃wherewithal shall we be clothed

    Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

32. 32

    כִּיforאֲבִיכֶםyour Fatherאֲשֶׁרwhichבַּשָּׁמַיִםin heavenיוֹדֵעַknowethכִּיthatחֲסֵרִיםhave needאַתֶּםyouלְכׇל־אֵלֶּה׃of all these things

    For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

33. 33

    אַךְbutבַּקְּשׁוּseek yeרִאשׁוֹנָהfirstאֶת־מַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְאֶת־צִדְקָתוֹand his righteousnessוְכׇל־אֵלֶּהand all these thingsיִוָּסְפוּthey shall be addedלָכֶם׃to you

    But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

34. 34

    לָכֵןthereforeאַל־תִּדְאֲגוּtake no thoughtלְמָחָרfor the morrowכִּיforמָחָרtomorrowיִדְאַגshall take thoughtלִדְבָרָיוfor the things of itselfדַּיsufficientלַיּוֹםunto the dayרָעָתוֹ׃the evil thereof

    Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the day unto the evil thereof.
