1. 1

   וְעַתָּהand nowהִנֵּהbeholdאַחַיmy brethrenדִּבַּרְתִּיI have spokenאֲלֵיכֶםunto youכַּאֲשֶׁרaccording asהֶאֱלִיצַנִיhath constrained meהָרוּחַthe SpiritלָכֵןwhereforeיָדַעְתִּיI knowכִּיthatהַדְּבָרִיםthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהtheseהָיֹהmust surelyיִהְיוּ׃come to pass

   And now, behold, my brethren, I have spoken unto you, according as the Spirit hath constrained me; wherefore, I know that they must surely come to pass.

2. 2

   וְהַדְּבָרִיםand the thingsאֲשֶׁרwhichיִכָּתְבוּshall be writtenמִן־הַסֵּפֶרout of the bookיִהְיוּshall beיְקָרִיםof worthמְאֹדgreatלִבְנֵי־הָאָדָםunto the children of menוְאַףandכִּיespeciallyלְזַרְעֵנוּunto our seedאֲשֶׁרwhichהוּאisשְׁאֵרִיתa remnant ofבֵּית־יִשְׂרָאֵל׃the house of Israel

   And the things which shall be written out of the book shall be of great worth unto the children of men, and especially unto our seed, which is a remnant of the house of Israel.

3. 3

   כִּיforיִהְיֶהit shall come to passבַיּוֹם־הַהוּאin that dayקְהִלּוֹתchurchesאֲשֶׁרwhich areנִבְנוּbuilt upוְלֹאand notלַיהוָהunto the Lordכַּאֲשֶׁרwhenיֹאמַרshall sayאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּto the otherהִנֵּהbeholdאֲנִיIאֲנִיIלַיהוָהam the Lord'sוְיֹאמַרand shall sayהָאֲחֵרthe othersאֲנִיIאֲנִיIלַיהוָהam the Lord'sוְכֵןand thusיֹאמְרוּthey shall sayכׇּל־בּוֹנֵיevery one that hath built upהַקְּהִלּוֹתthe churchesוְלֹאand notלַיהוָה׃unto the Lord

   For it shall come to pass in that day that the churches which are built up, and not unto the Lord, when the one shall say unto the other: Behold, I, I am the Lord’s; and the others shall say: I, I am the Lord’s; and thus shall every one say that hath built up churches, and not unto the Lord—

   וְרָבוּand they shall contendאִישׁoneבְּרֵעֵהוּwith anotherוְרָבוּand shall contendכֹהֲנֵיהֶםtheir priestsאִישׁoneבְּרֵעֵהוּwith anotherוְיוֹרוּand they shall teachבְּלִמּוּדָםwith their learningוְיַכְחֲשׁוּand they shall denyאֶת־רוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁthe Holy Ghostהַנֹּתֵןwhich givethאֹמֶר׃utterance

   And they shall contend one with another; and their priests shall contend one with another, and they shall teach with their learning, and deny the Holy Ghost, which giveth utterance.

   וְיַכְחֲשׁוּand they denyאֶת־כֹּחַthe power ofאֱלֹהִיםGodקְדוֹשׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלthe Holy One of Israelוְיֹאמְרוּand they sayאֶל־הָעָםunto the peopleהַקְשִׁיבוּhearkenאֵלֵינוּunto usוְשִׁמְעוּand hear youמִצְוָתֵנוּour preceptכִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdאֵיןthere is noאֱלֹהִיםGodהַיּוֹםtodayכִּיforיְהוָהthe Lordוְהַגּוֹאֵלand the Redeemerעָשָׂהhath doneמְלַאכְתּוֹhis workוְנָתַןand he hath givenכֹּחוֹhis powerלָאָדָם׃unto men

   And they deny the power of God, the Holy One of Israel; and they say unto the people: Hearken unto us, and hear ye our precept; for behold there is no God today, for the Lord and the Redeemer hath done his work, and he hath given his power unto men;

   הִנֵּהbeholdשִׁמְעוּhearken youלְמִצְוָתִיunto my preceptאִם־יֹאמְרוּif they shall sayלָכֶםunto youלֵאמֹרsayingנַעֲשָׂהthere is wroughtמוֹפֵתa miracleבְּיַד־יְהוָהby the hand of the Lordאַל־תַּאֲמִינוּdo not believeבוֹitכִּיforהַיּוֹםthis dayאֵינֶנּוּhe is notאֵלa God ofנִפְלָאוֹתmiraclesכִּי־עָשָׂהhe hath doneמְלַאכְתּוֹ׃his work

   Behold, hearken ye unto my precept; if they shall say there is a miracle wrought by the hand of the Lord, believe it not; for this day he is not a God of miracles; he hath done his work.

7. 7

   וְאַףyea andיִהְיוּthere shall beרַבִּיםmanyאֲשֶׁרwhoיֹאמְרוּwhich shall sayאִכְלוּeatוּשְׁתוּand drinkוּשְׂמָחוּand be merryכִּיforמָחָרtomorrowנָמוּתwe dieוְהָיָהand it shall beטוֹבwellלָנוּ׃with us

   Yea, and there shall be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die; and it shall be well with us.

8. 8

   וְגַםand alsoיִהְיוּthere shall beרַבִּיםmanyאֲשֶׁרwhoיֹאמְרוּwhich shall sayאִכְלוּeatוּשְׁתוּand drinkוּשְׂמָחוּand be merryאַךְneverthelessיִרְאוּfearאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםGodוְהוּאand heיַצְדִּיקwill justifyבַּעֲשׂוֹתin committingחַטָּאתa sinקְטַנָּהlittleאַףyeaכַּזְּבוּlieמְעַטa littleעִקְבוּtake the advantage ofאִישׁoneבִּדְבָרָיוbecause of his wordsכְּרוּdigבוֹרa pitלְרֵעֲךָfor your neighborאֵיןthere is noרָעָהharmבָּזֶהin thisוַעֲשׂוּand doכׇּל־אֵלֶּהall theseכִּיforמָחָרtomorrowנָמוּתwe dieוְאִםand ifנֶאְשַׁםit so be that we are guiltyיַכֵּנוּwill beat usאֱלֹהִיםGodבְּמַכּוֹתwith stripesמְעַטּוֹתa fewוּבְאַחֲרִיתand at lastנִוָּשַׁעwe shall be savedבְּמַלְכוּתin the kingdom ofאֱלֹהִים׃God

   And there shall also be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry; nevertheless, fear God—he will justify in committing a little sin; yea, lie a little, take the advantage of one because of his words, dig a pit for thy neighbor; there is no harm in this; and do all these things, for tomorrow we die; and if it so be that we are guilty, God will beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be saved in the kingdom of God.

9. 9

   וְאַףyea andיִהְיוּthere shall beרַבִּיםmanyאֲשֶׁרwhoיוֹרוּwhich shall teachכַּדֶּרֶךְafter mannerהַזֹּאתthisתּוֹרוֹתdoctrinesשֶׁקֶרfalseוְהֶבֶלand vainוּסְכָלוּתand foolishוְגָבַהּand shall be puffed upלְבָבָםin their heartsוְיַעֲמִיקוּand they shall seek deepלְהַסְתִּירto hideעֲצָתָםtheir counselsמֵיְהוָהfrom the Lordוְיִהְיוּand shall beמַעֲשֵׂיהֶםtheir worksבַחֹשֶׁךְ׃in the dark

   Yea, and there shall be many which shall teach after this manner, false and vain and foolish doctrines, and shall be puffed up in their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide their counsels from the Lord; and their works shall be in the dark.

10. 10

    וְיִזְעַקand shall cryדַּם־הַקְּדוֹשִׁיםthe blood of the saintsמִן־הָאֲדָמָהfrom the groundעֲלֵיהֶם׃against them

    And the blood of the saints shall cry from the ground against them.

11. 11

    הֵןyeaסָרוּthey have goneכֻלָּםall of themמִן־הַדֶּרֶךְout of the wayנִשְׁחָתוּ׃they have become corrupted

    Yea, they have all gone out of the way; they have become corrupted.

12. 12

    בַּעֲבוּרbecause ofהַגַּאֲוָהprideוּבַעֲבוּרand because ofמוֹרֵיteachersשֶׁקֶרfalseוְתוֹרַתand doctrineשָׁקֶרfalseנִשְׁחֲתוּhave become corruptedקְהִלּוֹתֵיהֶםtheir churchesוּקְהִלּוֹתֵיהֶםand their churchesמִתְנַשְּׂאוֹתare lifted upבַּעֲבוּרbecause ofגַּאֲוָתָםprideגָּבְהוּ׃they are puffed up

    Because of pride, and because of false teachers, and false doctrine, their churches have become corrupted, and their churches are lifted up; because of pride they are puffed up.

13. 13

    גּוֹזְלִיםthey robאֶת־הָעֲנִיִּיםthe poorבַּעֲבוּרbecause ofמִקְדְּשֵׁיהֶםtheir sanctuariesהַיָּפִיםfineגּוֹזְלִיםthey robאֶת־הָעֲנִיִּיםthe poorבַּעֲבוּרbecause ofבִּגְדֵיהֶםtheir clothingהַיָּפִיםfineוְרוֹדְפִיםand they persecuteאֶת־הָעֲנָוִיםthe meekוְעַנְוֵי־לֵבand the poor in heartכִּיbecauseבְגַאֲוָתָםin their prideגָּבְהוּ׃they are puffed up

    They rob the poor because of their fine sanctuaries; they rob the poor because of their fine clothing; and they persecute the meek and the poor in heart, because in their pride they are puffed up.

    נוֹשְׂאִיםthey wearעֹרֶףneckקָשֶׁהstiffוְרֹאשׁand headרָםhighוְאַףyea andבַּעֲבוּרbecause ofגַּאֲוָהprideוָרֶשַׁעand wickednessוְתוֹעֵבוֹתand abominationsוּזְנוּנִיםand whoredomsתָּעוּhave gone astrayכֻלָּםallבִּלְתִּיsave it beאִם־מְעַטִּיםa fewהַהֹלְכִיםwho are the followersבַּעֲנָוָהhumbleאַחֲרֵיofהַמָּשִׁיחַChristאַךְneverthelessגַּם־הֵםtheyנִמְשָׁכִיםare ledפְּעָמִיםin instancesרַבּוֹתmanyלִתְעוֹתthat they do errכִּיbecauseנִלְמְדוּthey are taughtבְּמִצְוֹתby the precepts ofאֲנָשִׁים׃men

    They wear stiff necks and high heads; yea, and because of pride, and wickedness, and abominations, and whoredoms, they have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men.

15. 15

    הוֹיOהַחֲכָמִיםthe wiseוְהַלְּמוּדִיםand the learnedוְהָעֲשִׁירִיםand the richהַגְּבֹהִיםthat are puffed upבִּגְאוֹןin the pride ofלִבָּםtheir heartsוְכׇל־מוֹרֵיand all those who preachשֶׁקֶרfalse doctrinesוְכׇל־הַזּוֹנִיםand all who commit whoredomsוּמְעַקְּשֵׁיand pervertדֶּרֶךְthe way ofיְהוָהthe Lordהַיְשָׁרָהthe rightהוֹיwoהוֹיwoהוֹיwoלָהֶםbe unto themנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the LordאֱלֹהִיםGodשַׁדַּיAlmightyכִּיforיוּטְלוּthey shall be thrust downשְׁאוֹלָה׃to hell

    O the wise, and the learned, and the rich, that are puffed up in the pride of their hearts, and all those who preach false doctrines, and all those who commit whoredoms, and pervert the right way of the Lord, wo, wo, wo be unto them, saith the Lord God Almighty, for they shall be thrust down to hell!

16. 16

    הוֹיwoלַמַּטִּיםunto them that turn asideהַיָּשָׁרthe justבְּדַבְרֵיfor a thing ofתֹהוּnaughtוּמְגַדְּפִיםand revile againstאֶת־הַטּוֹבthat which is goodוְאֹמְרִיםand sayכִּיthatאֵין־בּוֹit is of noמוֹעִילworthכִּיforיָבוֹאshall comeיוֹםthe dayוִיפְקֹדthat will visitיְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGodמְהֵרָהspeedilyאֶת־יֹשְׁבֵיthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץthe earthוּבַיּוֹםand in dayהַהוּאthatכִּמְלֹאתthat they are fully ripe inעֲוֹנָםtheir iniquityיֹאבֵדוּ׃they shall perish

    Wo unto them that turn aside the just for a thing of naught and revile against that which is good, and say that it is of no worth! For the day shall come that the Lord God will speedily visit the inhabitants of the earth; and in that day that they are fully ripe in iniquity they shall perish.

17. 17

    אַךְbutהִנֵּהbeholdאִם־יָשׁוּבוּif they shall repentיֹשְׁבֵיthe inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץthe earthמֵרָעָתָםof their wickednessוְתוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶםand their abominationsלֹאnotיִשָּׁמֵדוּthey shall be destroyedנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the Lordצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

    But behold, if the inhabitants of the earth shall repent of their wickedness and abominations they shall not be destroyed, saith the Lord of Hosts.

18. 18

    אַךְbutהִנֵּהbeholdהָעֵדָהthe churchהַגְּדוֹלָהgreatוְהַנִּתְעֶבֶתand abominableזוֹנַתthe whore ofכׇּל־הָאָרֶץall the earthנָפוֹלmustתִּפּוֹלtumbleאָרְצָהto the earthוּגְדוֹלָהand greatתִּהְיֶהmust beמַפַּלְתָּהּ׃the fall thereof

    But behold, that great and abominable church, the whore of all the earth, must tumble to the earth, and great must be the fall thereof.

19. 19

    כִּיforרָעֹשׁmustתִּרְעַשׁshakeמַלְכוּתthe kingdom ofהַשָּׂטָןthe devilוַאֲשֶׁרand they whichלוֹbelong to itהִתְעוֹרֵרmust needsיִתְעוֹרְרוּbe stirred upלִתְשׁוּבָהunto repentanceאוֹorיֹאחֲזֵםwill grasp themהַשָּׂטָןthe devilבְּמוֹסְרוֹתָיוwith his chainsאֲשֶׁר־לְעוֹלָםeverlastingוְיִתְעוֹרְרוּand they be stirred upלְכַעַסto angerוְיֹאבֵדוּ׃and perish

    For the kingdom of the devil must shake, and they which belong to it must needs be stirred up unto repentance, or the devil will grasp them with his everlasting chains, and they be stirred up to anger, and perish;

20. 20

    כִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdבַּיּוֹםat dayהַהוּאthatיִזְעַףshall he rageבִּלְבַבin the hearts ofבְּנֵי־הָאָדָםthe children of menוִיעוֹרְרֵםand stir them upלִכְעֹסto angerעַל־הַטּוֹב׃against that which is good

    For behold, at that day shall he rage in the hearts of the children of men, and stir them up to anger against that which is good.

21. 21

    וַאֲחֵרִיםand othersיַרְגִּיעַwill he pacifyוִיפַתֵּםand lull them awayבְּבִטְחוֹןinto securityבָּשָׂרcarnalלֵאמֹרthat they will sayהַכֹּלallשָׁלוֹםis wellבְּצִיּוֹןin ZionאַףyeaצִיּוֹןZionמַצְלַחַתprosperethהַכֹּלallשָׁלוֹםis wellוְכֵןand thusיְרַמֶּהcheatethהַשָּׂטָןthe devilאֶת־נַפְשָׁםtheir soulsוּמוֹלִיכָםand leadeth them awayבְּנַחַתcarefully downשְׁאוֹלָה׃to hell

    And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is well in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell.

22. 22

    וְהִנֵּהand beholdאֲחֵרִיםothersיַחֲלִיקhe flattereth awayוְיֹאמַרand tellethלָהֶםunto themכִּיthatאֵיןthere is noשְׁאוֹלhellוְאָמַרand he saithלָהֶםunto themאֵינֶנִּיI am notשָׂטָןa devilוְאֵיןfor there is noשָׂטָןdevilוְכֵןand thusיִלְחַשׁhe whisperethבְּאׇזְנֵיהֶםin their earsעַד־אֲשֶׁרuntilיֹאחֲזֵםhe grasps themבְּמוֹסְרוֹתָיוwith his chainsהַנּוֹרָאוֹתthe awfulאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵיןthere is noמֵהֶןfrom whenceמָנוֹס׃deliverance

    And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance.

23. 23

    הֵןyeaנִתְפְּשׂוּthey are graspedבַּמָּוֶתwith deathוּבִשְׁאוֹלand in hellוְהַמָּוֶתand deathוּשְׁאוֹלand hellוְהַשָּׂטָןand the devilוְכׇל־אֲשֶׁרand all whoנִתְפְּשׂוּare seizedבָםtherewithעָמֹדmustיַעַמְדוּstandלִפְנֵיbeforeכִּסֵּאthe throne ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְנִשְׁפְּטוּand shall be judgedכְּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶםaccording to their worksוּמִשָּׁםand from thenceהָלֹךְmustיֵלְכוּthey goאֶל־הַמָּקוֹםunto the placeהַמּוּכָןpreparedלָהֶםfor themאֶל־אֲגַםeven a lake ofהָאֵשׁthe fireוְהַגָּפְרִיתand the brimstoneאֲשֶׁרwhich isעֹנֶשׁtormentאֵין־קֵץ׃endless

    Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.

24. 24

    לָכֵןthereforeהוֹיwo beלַשַּׁאֲנָןunto him that is at easeבְּצִיּוֹן׃in Zion

    Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion!

25. 25

    הוֹיwo beלַקּוֹרֵאunto him that criethהַכֹּלallשָׁלוֹם׃is well

    Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well!

26. 26

    הֵןyeaהוֹיwo beלַשֹּׁמֵעַunto him that hearkenethלְמִצְוַתunto the precepts ofאֲנָשִׁיםmenוּמְכַחֵשׁand deniethבְּכֹחַthe power ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוּבְמַתַּתand the gift ofרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁ׃the Holy Ghost

    Yea, wo be unto him that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost!

27. 27

    הֵןyeaהוֹיwo beלָאֹמֵרunto him that saithקִבַּלְנוּwe have receivedוְלֹאand notנֶחְסַרwe needעוֹד׃more

    Yea, wo be unto him that saith: We have received, and we need no more!

28. 28

    וְסוֹףand inדָּבָרfineהוֹיwoלְכׇל־הַחֲרֵדִיםunto all those who trembleוְהַכּוֹעֲסִיםand are angryמִפְּנֵיbecause ofאֱמֶתthe truth ofאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdיְקַבְּלֶנָּהreceiveth itהַבָּנוּיhe that is builtעַל־הַצּוּרupon the rockבְּשִׂמְחָהwith gladnessוְיֶחֱרַדtremblethהַבָּנוּיhe that is builtעַל־יְסוֹדupon a foundationחוֹלsandyפֶּן־יִפּוֹל׃lest he shall fall

    And in fine, wo unto all those who tremble, and are angry because of the truth of God! For behold, he that is built upon the rock receiveth it with gladness; and he that is built upon a sandy foundation trembleth lest he shall fall.

29. 29

    הוֹיwo beלָאֹמֵרunto him that shall sayקִבַּלְנוּwe have receivedאֶת־דְּבַרthe word ofאֱלֹהִיםGodוְלֹאand notנֶחְסַרwe needעוֹדmoreמִדְּבַרof the word ofאֱלֹהִיםGodכִּיforיֶשׁ־לָנוּwe haveדַי׃enough

    Wo be unto him that shall say: We have received the word of God, and we need no more of the word of God, for we have enough!

30. 30

    כִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdכֹּה־אָמַרthus saithיְהוָהthe LordאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶתֵּןI will giveלִבְנֵי־הָאָדָםunto the children of menקַוlineלָקָוupon lineצַוpreceptלָצָוupon preceptזְעֵירhere a littleשָׁםthereזְעֵירa littleשָׁםthereוְאַשְׁרֵיand blessed areהַשֹּׁמְעִיםthose who hearkenלְמִצְוֹתַיunto my preceptsוּמַטִּיםand lendאֹזֶןan earלַעֲצָתִיunto my counselכִּיforיִלְמְדוּthey shall learnחׇכְמָהwisdomכִּיforלַמְקַבֵּלunto him that receivethאֶתֵּןI will giveעוֹדmoreוּמֵהָאֹמְרִיםand from them that shall sayיֶשׁ־לָנוּwe haveדַיenoughיִלָּקַחshall be taken awayגַּםevenאֲשֶׁרthat whichלָהֶם׃unto them

    For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.

31. 31

    אָרוּרcursed isהַבּוֹטֵחַhe that putteth his trustבָּאָדָםin manוְשָׂםor makethבָּשָׂרfleshזְרֹעוֹhis armוְשֹׁמֵעַor shall hearkenלְמִצְוֹתunto the precepts ofאֲנָשִׁיםmenבִּלְתִּיsaveאִם־נִתְּנוּtheir precepts shall be givenבְּכֹחַby the power ofרוּחַ־הַקֹּדֶשׁ׃the Holy Ghost

    Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.

32. 32

    הוֹיwo beלַגּוֹיִםunto the Gentilesנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the LordאֱלֹהֵיGodצְבָאוֹתof Hostsכִּיforאַף־כִּיnotwithstandingאַטֶּהI shall lengthen outזְרוֹעִיmy armאֲלֵיהֶםunto themיוֹםfrom dayיוֹםto dayיְכַחֲשׁוּthey will denyבִיmeאַךְneverthelessאֶעֱשֶׂהI will beחֶסֶדmercifulעִמָּםunto themנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the LordאֱלֹהִיםGodאִם־יָשׁוּבוּif they will repentוְיָבֹאוּand comeאֵלָיunto meכִּיforזְרוֹעִיmy armנְטוּיָהis stretched outכׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the day longנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the LordאֱלֹהֵיGodצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

    Wo be unto the Gentiles, saith the Lord God of Hosts! For notwithstanding I shall lengthen out mine arm unto them from day to day, they will deny me; nevertheless, I will be merciful unto them, saith the Lord God, if they will repent and come unto me; for mine arm is lengthened out all the day long, saith the Lord God of Hosts.
