מַשָּׂאthe burden ofבָּבֶלBabylonאֲשֶׁרwhichחָזָהdid seeיְשַׁעְיָהוּIsaiahבֶּן־אָמוֹץ׃the son of Amoz
The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.

עַלuponהַר־נִשְׁפֶּהthe high mountainשְׂאוּ־נֵסlift you up a bannerהָרִימוּexaltקוֹלthe voiceלָהֶםunto themהָנִיפוּshakeיָדthe handוְיָבֹאוּthat they may goפִּתְחֵיinto the gates ofנְדִיבִים׃the nobles
Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

אֲנִיIצִוֵּיתִיhave commandedלִמְקֻדָּשָׁיmy sanctified onesגַּםalsoקָרָאתִיI have calledגִבּוֹרַיmy mighty onesכִּיforלֹא־אַפִּיmy anger is notעַל־עֲלִיזֵיupon them that rejoice inגַאֲוָתִי׃my highness
I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones, for mine anger is not upon them that rejoice in my highness.

קוֹלa noiseהֶהָמוֹןthe multitudeבֶּהָרִיםin the mountainsדְּמוּתlike as ofעַם־רָבa great peopleקוֹלa noiseשְׁאוֹןtumultuousמַמְלְכוֹתof the kingdoms ofגּוֹיִםthe nationsנֶאֱסָפִיםgathered togetherיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsמְפַקֵּדmusterethצְבָאוֹתthe hosts ofמִלְחָמָה׃the battle
The noise of the multitude in the mountains like as of a great people, a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together, the Lord of Hosts mustereth the hosts of the battle.

בָּאִיםthey comeמֵאֶרֶץfrom a countryמֶרְחָקfarמִקְצֵהfrom the end ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenאַףyeaיְהוָהthe Lordוּכְלֵיand the weapons ofזַעְמוֹhis indignationלְחַבֵּלto destroyכׇּל־הָאָרֶץ׃the whole land
They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, yea, the Lord, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

הֵילִילוּhowl youכִּיforקָרוֹבis at handיוֹם־יְהוָהthe day of the Lordכְּשֹׁדas a destructionמִשַּׁדַּיfrom the Almightyיָבוֹא׃it shall come
Howl ye, for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

עַל־כֵּןthereforeכׇּל־יָדַיִםall handsתִּרְפֶּינָהshall be faintוְכׇל־לְבַבevery heart ofאֱנוֹשׁman'sיִמָּס׃shall melt
Therefore shall all hands be faint, every man’s heart shall melt;
- 8
וְנִבְהָלוּand they shall be afraidצִירִיםpangsוַחֲבָלִיםand sorrowsיֹאחֵזוּןshall take hold of themאִישׁoneאֶל־רֵעֵהוּat anotherיִתְמָהוּthey shall be amazedפְּנֵיasלְהָבִיםflamesפְּנֵיהֶם׃their faces shall be
And they shall be afraid; pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

הִנֵּהbeholdיוֹם־יְהוָהthe day of the Lordבָּאcomethאַכְזָרִיcruel bothוְעֶבְרָהwith wrathוַחֲרוֹןand fierceאָףangerלָשׂוּםto layהָאָרֶץthe landלְשַׁמָּהdesolateוְחַטָּאֶיהָand the sinners thereofיַשְׁמִידhe shall destroyמִמֶּנָּה׃out of it
Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

כִּי־כוֹכְבֵיfor the stars ofהַשָּׁמַיִםheavenוּכְסִילֵיהֶםand the constellations thereofלֹאshall notיָהֵלּוּgiveאוֹרָםtheir lightחָשַׁךְshall be darkenedהַשֶּׁמֶשׁthe sunבְּצֵאתוֹin his going forthוְיָרֵחַand the moonלֹא־יַגִּיהַּshall not cause to shineאוֹרוֹ׃her light
For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light; the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

וּפָקַדְתִּיand I will punishעַל־תֵּבֵלthe worldרָעָהfor evilוְעַל־רְשָׁעִיםand the wickedעֲוֹנָםfor their iniquityוְהִשְׁבַּתִּיand I will cause to ceaseגְּאוֹןthe arrogancy ofזֵדִיםthe proudוְגַאֲוַתand the haughtiness ofעָרִיצִיםthe terribleאַשְׁפִּיל׃will lay down
And I will punish the world for evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay down the haughtiness of the terrible.

אוֹקִירI will make more preciousאֱנוֹשׁa manמִפָּזthan fine goldוְאָדָםeven a manמִכֶּתֶםthan the golden wedge ofאוֹפִיר׃Ophir
I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

עַל־כֵּןthereforeשָׁמַיִםthe heavensאַרְגִּיזI will shakeוְתִרְעַשׁand shall removeהָאָרֶץthe earthמִמְּקוֹמָהּout of her placeבְּעֶבְרַתin the wrath ofיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוּבְיוֹםand in the day ofחֲרוֹןfierceאַפּוֹ׃his anger
Therefore, I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of Hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

וְהָיָהand it shall beכִּצְבִיas the roeמֻדָּחchasedוּכְצֹאןand as a sheepוְאֵיןthat no manמְקַבֵּץtaketh upאִישׁevery oneאֶל־עַמּוֹunto his own peopleיִפְנוּshall turnוְאִישׁand every oneאֶל־אַרְצוֹinto his own landיָנוּסוּ׃shall flee
And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up; and they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.

כׇּל־הַגֵּאֶהevery one that is proudיִדָּקֵרshall be thrust throughוְכׇל־הַנִּסְפֶּהyea and every one that is joinedלָרְשָׁעִיםto the wickedיִפּוֹלshall fallבֶּחָרֶב׃by the sword
Every one that is proud shall be thrust through; yea, and every one that is joined to the wicked shall fall by the sword.

וְעֹלְלֵיהֶםtheir children alsoיְרֻטְּשׁוּshall be dashed to piecesלְעֵינֵיהֶםbefore their eyesיִשַּׁסּוּshall be spoiledבָּתֵּיהֶםtheir housesוּנְשֵׁיהֶםand their wivesתִּשָּׁכַבְנָה׃ravished
Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled and their wives ravished.

הִנְנִיbehold Iמֵעִירwill stir upעֲלֵיהֶםagainst themאֶת־מָדָיthe Medesאֲשֶׁר־כֶּסֶףwhich silverוְזָהָבand goldלֹאnotיַחְשֹׁבוּshall regardוְלֹאnor shallיַחְפְּצוּ־בוֹ׃they delight in it
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver and gold, nor shall they delight in it.

וּקְשָׁתוֹתtheir bows alsoנְעָרִיםthe young menתְּרַטַּשְׁנָהshall dash to piecesוּפְרִי־בֶטֶןand the fruit of the wombלֹאnotיְרַחֵמוּshall they have pityעַל־בָּנִיםchildrenלֹא־תָחוּסshall not spareעֵינֵיהֶם׃their eyes
Their bows shall also dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.

וְהָיְתָהand shall beבָבֶלBabylonצְבִיthe glory ofמַמְלָכוֹתkingdomsתִּפְאֶרֶתthe beauty ofגְּאוֹןexcellencyכַּשְׂדִּיםthe Chaldees'כְּמַהְפֵּכַתas when overthrewאֱלֹהִיםGodאֶת־סְדֹםSodomוְאֶת־עֲמֹרָה׃and Gomorrah
And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

לֹא־תֵשֵׁבit shall not be inhabitedלָנֶצַחfor everוְלֹאand notתִשְׁכֹּןshall it be dwelt inעַד־דּוֹרfrom generationוָדוֹרto generationוְלֹא־יַהֵלneither shall pitch tentשָׁםthereעֲרָבִיthe Arabianוְרֹעִיםneither shall the shepherdsלֹא־יַרְבִּצוּmake their foldשָׁם׃there
It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

וְרָבְצוּ־שָׁםbut shall lie thereצִיִּיםwild beasts of the desertוּמָלְאוּand shall be fullבָתֵּיהֶםtheir housesאֹחִיםof doleful creaturesוְשָׁכְנוּshall dwellשָׁםthereבְּנוֹת־יַעֲנָהowlsוּשְׂעִירִיםand satyrsיְרַקְּדוּ־שָׁם׃shall dance there
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
- 22
וְעָנָהand shall cryאִיִּיםthe wild beasts of the islandsבְּאַלְמְנוֹתָיוin their desolate housesוְתַנִּיםand dragonsבְּהֵיכְלֵיin their palacesעֹנֶגpleasantוְקָרוֹבand is nearלָבוֹאto comeעִתָּהּher timeוְיוֹמָהּand her dayלֹאshall notיִמָּשֵׁכוּbe prolongedכִּיforאַשְׁמִידֶנָּהI will destroy herמְהֵרָהspeedilyאַףyeaאֶחֱמֹלI will be mercifulעַל־עַמִּיupon my peopleוְהָרְשָׁעִיםbut the wickedיֹאבֵדוּ׃they shall perish
And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her day shall not be prolonged. For I will destroy her speedily; yea, for I will be merciful unto my people, but the wicked shall perish.
