כִּיforיְרַחֵםwill have mercy onיְהוָהthe Lordאֶת־יַעֲקֹבJacobוּבָחַרand will chooseעוֹדyetבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelוְהִנִּיחָםand set themעַל־אַדְמָתָםin their own landוְנִלְוָהand shall be joinedהַגֵּרthe strangersעֲלֵיהֶםwith themוְנִסְפְּחוּand they shall cleaveעַל־בֵּיתto the house ofיַעֲקֹב׃Jacob
For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.

וּלְקָחוּםand shall take themעַמִּיםthe peopleוֶהֱבִיאוּםand bring themאֶל־מְקוֹמָםto their placeאַףyeaמֵרָחוֹקfrom farעַד־קְצוֹתunto the ends ofהָאָרֶץthe earthוְשָׁבוּand they shall returnאֶל־אַרְצוֹתto the lands ofהַיְעוּדָהpromiseוְהִתְנַחֲלוּםand shall possess themבֵּית־יִשְׂרָאֵלthe house of Israelעַל־אַדְמַתand the land ofיְהוָהthe Lordלַעֲבָדִיםshall be for servantsוְלִשְׁפָחוֹתand for handmaidsוְהָיוּand they shall beשֹׁבִיםcaptivesלְשֹׁבֵיהֶםunto whom they were captivesוְרָדוּand they shall ruleבְּנֹגְשֵׂיהֶם׃over their oppressors
And the people shall take them and bring them to their place; yea, from far unto the ends of the earth; and they shall return to their lands of promise. And the house of Israel shall possess them, and the land of the Lord shall be for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captives unto whom they were captives; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

וְהָיָהand it shall come to passבְּיוֹםin that dayהָנִיחַshall give restיְהוָהthe Lordלְךָyouמֵעׇצְבְּךָfrom your sorrowוּמִרׇגְזֶךָand from your fearוּמִן־הָעֲבֹדָהand from the bondageהַקָּשָׁהhardאֲשֶׁרwhereinעֻבַּד־בָּךְ׃you were made to serve
And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall give thee rest, from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve.

וְהָיָהand it shall come to passבַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatוְנָשָׂאתָthat you shall take upהַמָּשָׁלthe proverbהַזֶּהthisעַל־מֶלֶךְagainst the king ofבָּבֶלBabylonוְאָמַרְתָּand sayאֵיךְhowשָׁבַתhath ceasedנֹגֵשׂthe oppressorשָׁבְתָהceasedמַדְהֵבָה׃the golden city
And it shall come to pass in that day, that thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say: How hath the oppressor ceased, the golden city ceased!

שָׁבַרhath brokenיְהוָהthe Lordמַטֵּהthe staff ofרְשָׁעִיםthe wickedשִׁבְטֵיthe scepters ofמֹשְׁלִים׃the rulers
The Lord hath broken the staff of the wicked, the scepters of the rulers.

מַכֶּהhe who smoteעַמִּיםthe peopleבְּעֶבְרָהin wrathמַכַּתwith a strokeבִּלְתִּי־סָרָהcontinualרֹדֶהhe that ruledבָאַףin angerגּוֹיִםthe nationsמֻרְדָּףis persecutedבְּלִיand noneחָשָׂךְ׃hindereth
He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

נָחָהis at restשָׁקְטָהand is quietכׇּל־הָאָרֶץthe whole earthפָּצְחוּthey break forthרִנָּה׃into singing
The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet; they break forth into singing.

גַּם־בְּרוֹשִׁיםyea the fir treesשָׂמְחוּrejoiceלְךָat youאַרְזֵיand also the cedars ofלְבָנוֹןLebanonמֵאָזsinceשָׁכַבְתָּyou are laid downלֹא־יַעֲלֶהis not come upהַכֹּרֵתthe fellerעָלֵינוּ׃against us
Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and also the cedars of Lebanon, saying: Since thou art laid down no feller is come up against us.

שְׁאוֹלhellמִתַּחַתfrom beneathרָגְזָהis movedלְךָfor youלִקְרַאתto meet youבּוֹאֶךָat your comingעוֹרֵרit stirreth upלְךָfor youרְפָאִיםthe deadכׇּל־עַתּוּדֵיeven all the chief ones ofאָרֶץthe earthהֵקִיםit hath raised upמִכִּסְאוֹתָםfrom their thronesכֹּלallמַלְכֵיkings ofגוֹיִם׃the nations
Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming; it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

כֻּלָּםall theyיַעֲנוּshall speakוְיֹאמְרוּand sayאֵלֶיךָto youגַּם־אַתָּהare you alsoחֻלֵּיתָbecome weakכָמוֹנוּas weאֵלֵינוּunto usנִמְשָׁלְתָּ׃are you become like
All they shall speak and say unto thee: Art thou also become weak as we? Art thou become like unto us?

הוּרַדis brought downשְׁאוֹלto the graveגְּאוֹנֶךָyour pompהֶמְיַתthe noise ofנְבָלֶיךָyour violsלֹא־נִשְׁמָעis not heardתַּחְתֶּיךָunder youיֻצַּעis spreadרִמָּהthe wormוּמְכַסֶּיךָand cover youתוֹלֵעָה׃the worms
Thy pomp is brought down to the grave; the noise of thy viols is not heard; the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

אֵיךְhowנָפַלְתָּare you fallenמִשָּׁמַיִםfrom heavenהֵילֵלO Luciferבֶּן־שָׁחַרson of the morningנִגְדַּעְתָּare you cut downלָאָרֶץto the groundחוֹלֵשׁwhich did weakenעַל־גּוֹיִם׃the nations
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! Art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations!

וְאַתָּהfor youאָמַרְתָּhast saidבִלְבָבְךָin your heartהַשָּׁמַיִםinto heavenאֶעֱלֶהI will ascendמִמַּעַלaboveלְכוֹכְבֵי־אֵלthe stars of GodאָרִיםI will exaltכִּסְאִיmy throneוְאֵשֵׁבI will sit alsoבְּהַר־מוֹעֵדupon the mount of the congregationבְּיַרְכְּתֵיin the sides ofצָפוֹן׃the north
For thou hast said in thy heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north;

אֶעֱלֶהI will ascendעַל־בׇּמֳתֵיabove the heights ofעָבthe cloudsאֶדַּמֶּהI will be likeלְעֶלְיוֹן׃the Most High
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High.

אַךְyetאֶל־שְׁאוֹלto hellתּוּרָדyou shall be brought downאֶל־יַרְכְּתֵי־בוֹר׃to the sides of the pit
Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

רֹאֶיךָthey that see youאֵלֶיךָupon youיַשְׁגִּיחוּshall narrowly lookאֵלֶיךָupon youיִתְבּוֹנָנוּand shall considerוְאָמְרוּand shall sayהֲזֶהis thisהָאִישׁthe manמַרְגִּיזthat made to trembleהָאָרֶץthe earthמַרְעִישׁthat did shakeמַמְלָכוֹת׃kingdoms
They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and shall consider thee, and shall say: Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms?

שָׂםand madeתֵּבֵלthe worldכַּמִּדְבָּרas a wildernessוְעָרָיוand the cities thereofהָרָסdestroyedבָּיְתָהhomewardאֲסִירָיוhis prisonersלֹא־פָתַח׃and opened not
And made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof, and opened not the house of his prisoners?

כׇּל־מַלְכֵיall the kings ofגוֹיִםthe nationsכֻּלָּםyea all of themשָׁכְבוּlieבְכָבוֹדin gloryאִישׁevery oneבְּבֵיתוֹ׃in his own house
All the kings of the nations, yea, all of them, lie in glory, every one of them in his own house.

וְאַתָּהbut youהׇשְׁלַכְתָּart cast outמִקִּבְרְךָout of your graveכְּנֵצֶרlike a branchנִתְעָבabominableוּשְׁאֵרִיתand the remnant ofהֲרוּגִיםthose that are slainמְטֹעֲנֵיthrust through withחָרֶבa swordיוֹרְדֵיthat go downאֶל־אַבְנֵי־בוֹרto the stones of the pitכְּפֶגֶרas a carcassמוּבָס׃trodden under feet
But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and the remnant of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.

לֹא־תֵחַדyou shall not be joinedאִתָּםwith themבִּקְבוּרָהin burialכִּי־אַרְצְךָbecause your landשִׁחַתָּyou have destroyedעַמְּךָyour peopleהָרָגְתָּyou have slainלֹא־יִקָּרֵאshall not be renownedלְעוֹלָםfor everזֶרַעthe seed ofמְרֵעִים׃evil-doers
Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land and slain thy people; the seed of evil-doers shall never be renowned.

הָכִינוּprepareלְבָנָיוfor his childrenמַטְבֵּחַslaughterבַּעֲוֹנוֹתfor the iniquities ofאֲבוֹתָםtheir fathersבַּל־יָקֻמוּthat they do not riseוְיָרְשׁוּnor possessאָרֶץthe landוּמָלְאוּnor fillפְנֵי־תֵבֵלthe face of the worldעָרִים׃with cities
Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquities of their fathers, that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

וְקַמְתִּיfor I will rise upעֲלֵיהֶםagainst themנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsוְהִכְרַתִּיand I will cut offלְבָבֶלfrom Babylonשֵׁםthe nameוּשְׁאָרand remnantוְנִיןand sonוָנֶכֶדand nephewנְאֻם־יְהוָה׃saith the Lord
For I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of Hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the Lord.

וְשַׂמְתִּיהָI will also make itלְמוֹרַשׁa possession forקִפֹּדthe bitternוְאַגְמֵי־מָיִםand pools of waterוְטֵאטֵאתִיהָand I will sweep itבְּמַטְאֲטֵאwith the besom ofהַשְׁמֵדdestructionנְאֻם־יְהוָהsaith the Lordצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts
I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of Hosts.

נִשְׁבַּעhath swornיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsלֵאמֹרsayingאִם־לֹאsurelyכַּאֲשֶׁרasדִּמִּיתִיI have thoughtכֵּןsoהָיָתָהshall it come to passוְכַאֲשֶׁרand asיָעַצְתִּיI have purposedהִיא־תָקוּם׃so shall it stand
The Lord of Hosts hath sworn, saying: Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand—

לְהָבִיאthat I will bringאַשּׁוּרthe Assyrianבְּאַרְצִיin my landוְעַל־הָרַיand upon my mountainsאֲבוּסֶנּוּtread him under footוְסָרthen shall departמֵעֲלֵיהֶםfrom off themעֻלּוֹhis yokeוְסֻבֳּלוֹand his burdenמֵעַלfrom offשִׁכְמוֹtheir shouldersיָסוּר׃shall depart
That I will bring the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot; then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

זֹאתthis isהָעֵצָהthe purposeהַיְּעוּצָהthat is purposedעַל־כׇּל־הָאָרֶץupon the whole earthוְזֹאתand this isהַיָּדthe handהַנְּטוּיָהthat is stretched outעַל־כׇּל־הַגּוֹיִם׃upon all nations
This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all nations.

כִּי־יְהוָהfor the Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsיָעָץhath purposedוּמִיand whoיָפֵרshall disannulוְיָדוֹand his handהַנְּטוּיָהis stretched outוּמִיand whoיְשִׁיבֶנָּה׃shall turn it back
For the Lord of Hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

בִּשְׁנַת־מוֹתin the year of the death ofהַמֶּלֶךְthe kingאָחָזAhazהָיָהwasהַמַּשָּׂאthe burdenהַזֶּה׃this
In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.

אַל־תִּשְׂמְחִיrejoice not youפְלֶשֶׁתPalestinaכֻּלֵּךְwholeכִּיbecauseנִשְׁבַּרis brokenשֵׁבֶטthe rod ofמַכֵּךְhim that smote youכִּי־מִשֹּׁרֶשׁfor out of the root ofנָחָשׁthe serpentיֵצֵאshall come forthצֶפַעa cockatriceוּפִרְיוֹand his fruitשָׂרָףa fiery serpentמְעוֹפֵף׃flying
Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.

וְרָעוּand shall feedבְּכוֹרֵיthe firstborn ofדַלִּיםthe poorוְאֶבְיוֹנִיםand the needyלָבֶטַחin safetyיִרְבָּצוּshall lie downוְהֵמַתִּיand I will killבָרָעָבwith famineשׇׁרְשֵׁךְyour rootוּשְׁאֵרִיתֵךְand your remnantיַהֲרֹג׃he shall slay
And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety; and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.

הֵילִילִיhowlשַׁעַרO gateזַעֲקִי־עִירcry O cityנָמוֹגyou art dissolvedפְּלֶשֶׁתPalestinaכֻּלֵּךְwholeכִּיforמִצָּפוֹןfrom the northעָשָׁןa smokeבָּאthere shall comeוְאֵיןand noneבּוֹדֵדshall be aloneבְּמוֹעָדָיו׃in his appointed times
Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved; for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.

וּמַה־יַּעֲנֶהwhat shall then answerמַלְאֲכֵי־גוֹיִםthe messengers of the nationsכִּי־יְהוָהthat the Lordיִסַּדhath foundedצִיּוֹןZionוּבָהּin itיֶחֱסוּshall trustעֲנִיֵּיthe poor ofעַמּוֹ׃his people
What shall then answer the messengers of the nations? That the Lord hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
