   הוֹיhoywoהַחֹקְקִיםha/chok/KIMunto them that decreeחִקְקֵי־אָוֶןchik/KE-A/venunrighteous decreesוּמְכַתְּבִיםu/me/khat/te/VIMand that writeעָמָלa/MALgrievousnessכִּתֵּבוּ׃kit/TE/vuwhich they prescribed

   Wo unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

   לְהַטּוֹתle/hat/TOTto turn awayמִדִּיןmid/DINfrom judgmentדַּלִּיםdal/LIMthe needyוְלִגְזֹלve/lig/ZOLand to take awayמִשְׁפַּטmish/PATthe rightעֲנִיֵּיa/niy/YEof the poorעַמִּיam/MIof my peopleלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTthat may beאַלְמָנוֹתal/ma/NOTwidowsשְׁלָלָםshe/la/LAMtheir preyוְאֶת־יְתוֹמִיםve/ET-ye/to/MIMand the fatherlessיָבֹזּוּ׃ya/VOZ/zuthey may rob

   To turn away the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

   וּמַה־תַּעֲשׂוּu/MA-ta/a/SUand what will you doלְיוֹםle/YOMin the dayפְּקֻדָּהpe/kud/DAof visitationוּלְשׁוֹאָהu/le/sho/Aand in the desolationמִמֶּרְחָקmim/mer/CHAKfrom farתָּבוֹאta/VOwhich shall comeעַל־מִיal-mito whomתָּנוּסוּta/NU/suwill you fleeלְעֶזְרָהle/ez/RAfor helpוְאָנָהve/A/naand whereתַעַזְבוּta/az/VUwill you leaveכְּבוֹדְכֶם׃ke/vod/KHEMyour glory

   And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?

   בִּלְתִּיbil/TIwithout meכָרַעkha/RAthey shall bow downתַּחַתTA/chatunderאַסִּירas/SIRthe prisonersוְתַחַתve/TA/chatand underהֲרוּגִיםha/ru/GIMthe slainיִפֹּלוּyip/PO/luthey shall fallבְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavis not turned awayאַפּוֹap/POHis angerוְעוֹדve/ODbut stillיָדוֹya/DOHis handנְטוּיָה׃ne/tu/YAis stretched out

   Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

   הוֹיhoyOאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURAssyrianשֵׁבֶטSHE/vetthe rodאַפִּיap/PIof my angerוּמַטֶּה־הוּאu/mat/TE-huand the staffבְיָדָםve/ya/DAMin their handזַעְמָם׃za/MAMis their indignation

   O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is their indignation.

   בְּגוֹיbe/GOYagainst a nationחָנֵףcha/NEFhypocriticalאֲשַׁלְּחֶנּוּa/shal/le/CHEN/nuI will send himוְעַל־עַםve/AL-amand against the peopleעֶבְרָתִיev/ra/TIof my wrathאֲצַוֶּנּוּa/tsav/VEN/nuwill I give him a chargeלִשְׁלֹלlish/LOLto takeשָׁלָלsha/LALthe spoilוְלָבֹזve/la/VOZand to takeבַּזbazthe preyוּלְשׂוּמוֹ־מִרְמָסu/le/su/MO-mir/MASand to tread them downכְּחֹמֶרke/CHO/merlike the mireחוּצוֹת׃chu/TSOTof the streets

   I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

   וְהוּאve/HUhowbeit heלֹא־כֵןlo-khennot soיְדַמֶּהye/dam/MEmeansוּלְבָבוֹu/le/va/VOand his heartלֹא־כֵןlo-khennot soיַחְשֹׁבyach/SHOVthinksכִּיkibutבִלְבָבוֹvil/va/VOin his heartלְהַשְׁמִידle/hash/MIDto destroyוּלְהַכְרִיתu/le/hakh/RITand to cut offגּוֹיִםgo/YIMnationsלֹאlonotמְעָט׃me/ATa few

   Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but in his heart it is to destroy and cut off nations not a few.

   כִּיkiforיֹאמַרyo/MARhe saithהֲלֹאha/LOare notשָׂרַיsa/RAYmy princesיַחְדָּוyach/DAValtogetherמְלָכִים׃me/la/KHIMkings

   For he saith: Are not my princes altogether kings?

9. 9

   הֲלֹאha/LOis notכְּכַרְכְּמִישׁke/Khar/ke/MISHas CarchemishכַּלְנוֹKal/NOCalnoאִם־לֹאim-lois notכְאַרְפַּדkhe/Ar/PADas ArpadחֲמָתCha/MATHamathאִם־לֹאim-lois notכְדַמֶּשֶׂקkhe/Dam/ME/sekas Damascusשֹׁמְרוֹן׃Shom/RONSamaria

   Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus?

10. 10

    כַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיָסְדָהYAS/dafoundedיָדִיya/DImy handלְמַמְלְכֹתle/mam/le/KHOTthe kingdomsהָאֱלִילha/e/LILof the idolsוּפְסִילֵיהֶםu/fe/si/le/HEMand whose graven images did excelמִירוּשָׁלַיִםmI/ru/sha/LA/yimthem of Jerusalemוּמִשֹּׁמְרוֹן׃u/Mish/shom/RONand of Samaria

    As my hand hath founded the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;

    הֲלֹאha/LOshall I notכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasעָשִׂיתִיa/SI/tiI didלְשֹׁמְרוֹןle/Shom/RONunto Samariaוְלֶאֱלִילֶיהָve/le/e/li/LE/haand her idolsכֵּןkensoאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEdoלִירוּשָׁלַיִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemוְלַעֲצַבֶּיהָ׃ve/la/a/tsab/BE/haand her idols

    Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and to her idols?

12. 12

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beכִּי־יְבַצַּעki-ye/vats/TSAthat when performedאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiאֶת־כׇּל־מַעֲשֵׂהוּet-kol-ma/a/SE/huhis whole workבְּהַרbe/HARupon mountצִיּוֹןTsiy/YONZionוּבִירוּשָׁלָיִםu/Vi/ru/sha/LA/yimand upon Jerusalemאֶפְקֹדef/KODI will punishעַל־פְּרִי־גֹדֶלal-pe/RI-GO/delthe fruit of the stoutלְבַבle/VAVheartמֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּרME/lekh-Ash/SHURof the king of Assyriaוְעַל־תִּפְאֶרֶתve/AL-tif/E/retand the gloryרוּםrumof highעֵינָיו׃e/NAYVhis looks

    Wherefore it shall come to pass that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon Mount Zion and upon Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.

13. 13

    כִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARhe saithבְּכֹחַbe/KHO/achby the strengthיָדִיya/DIof my handעָשִׂיתִיa/SI/tiI didאֶת־אֵלֶּהet-EL/lethese thingsוּבְחׇכְמָתִיu/ve/chokh/ma/TIand by my wisdomכִּיkiforנְבֻנוֹתִיne/vu/NO/tiI am prudentוְאָסִירve/a/SIRand I movedגְּבוּלֹתge/vu/LOTthe bordersעַמִּיםam/MIMof the peopleוַעֲתוּדֹתֵיהֶםva/a/tu/do/te/HEMand their treasuresשׁוֹשֵׂתִיsho/SE/tiI robbedוְאוֹרִידve/o/RIDand I put downכַּאבִּירka/BIRas a valiant manיוֹשְׁבִים׃yosh/VIMthe inhabitants

    For he saith: By the strength of my hand and by my wisdom I have done these things; for I am prudent; and I have moved the borders of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man;

14. 14

    וַתִּמְצָאvat/tim/TSAand foundכַקֵּןkhak/KENas a nestיָדִיya/DImy handלְחֵילle/CHELthe richesהָעַמִּיםha/am/MIMof the peoplesוְכֶאֱסֹףve/khe/e/SOFand as one gathersבֵּיצִיםbe/TSIMeggsעֲזֻבוֹתa/zu/VOTthat are leftכׇּל־הָאָרֶץkol-ha/A/retsall the earthאֲנִיa/NIIאָסָפְתִּיa/SAF/tigatheredוְלֹא־הָיָהve/LO-HA/yaand there was none thatנֹדֵדno/DEDmovedכָּנָףka/NAFthe wingוּפֹצֶהu/fo/TSEor openedפֶהfethe mouthוּמְצַפְצֵף׃u/me/tsaf/TSEFor peeped

    And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people; and as one gathereth eggs that are left have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.

15. 15

    הֲיִתְפָּאֵרha/yit/pa/ERshall boast itselfהַגַּרְזֶןhag/gar/ZENthe axעַלalagainstהַחֹצֵבha/cho/TSEVhim that hewsבּוֹbotherewithאִם־יִתְגַּדֵּלim-yit/gad/DELshall magnify itselfהַמַּשּׂוֹרham/mas/SORthe sawעַל־מְנִיפוֹal-me/ni/FOagainst him that shakes itכְּהָנִיףke/ha/NIFas if should shakeשֵׁבֶטSHE/vetthe rodוְאֶת־מְרִימָיוve/ET-me/ri/MAYVthem that lift it upכְּהָרִיםke/ha/RIMas if should lift upמַטֶּהmat/TEthe staffלֹא־עֵץ׃lo-etsas if it were no wood

    Shall the ax boast itself against him that heweth therewith? Shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? As if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself as if it were no wood!

16. 16

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיְשַׁלַּחye/shal/LACHshall sendהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe LordיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsבְּמִשְׁמַנָּיוbe/mish/man/NAYVamong his fat onesרָזוֹןra/ZONleannessוְתַחַתve/TA/chatand underכְּבֹדוֹke/vo/DOhis gloryיֵקַדye/KADhe shall kindleיְקֹדye/KODa burningכִּיקוֹדki/KODlike the burningאֵשׁ׃eshof a fire

    Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, send among his fat ones, leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.

17. 17

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand shall beאוֹר־יִשְׂרָאֵלor-Yis/ra/ELthe light of Israelלְאֵשׁle/ESHfor a fireוּקְדוֹשׁוֹu/Ke/do/SHOand his Holy Oneלְלֶהָבָהle/le/ha/VAfor a flameוּבָעֲרָהu/va/a/RAand it shall burnוְאׇכְלָהve/okh/LAand shall devourשִׁיתוֹshi/TOhis thornsוּשְׁמִירוֹu/she/mi/ROand his briersבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin a dayאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame, and shall burn and shall devour his thorns and his briers in one day;

18. 18

    וּכְבוֹדu/khe/VODand the gloryיַעְרוֹya/ROof his forestוְכַרְמִלּוֹve/khar/mil/LOand of his fruitful fieldמִנֶּפֶשׁmin/NE/feshboth soulוְעַד־בָּשָׂרve/AD-ba/SARand bodyיְכַלֶּהye/khal/LEshall consumeוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand they shall beכִּמְסֹסkim/SOSas when faintsנֹסֵס׃no/SESa standard-bearer

    And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body; and they shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth.

19. 19

    וּשְׁאָרu/she/ARand the restעֵץetsof treesיַעְרוֹya/ROof his forestמִסְפָּרmis/PARfewיִהְיוּyih/YUthey shall beוְנַעַרve/NA/arthat a childיִכְתְּבֵם׃yikh/te/VEMhe may write them

    And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.

20. 20

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatלֹא־יוֹסִיףlo-yo/SIFshall no moreעוֹדodagainשְׁאָרshe/ARthe remnantיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelוּפְלֵיטַתu/fe/le/TATand such as are escapedבֵּית־יַעֲקֹבbet-Ya/a/KOVof the house of Jacobלְהִשָּׁעֵןle/hish/sha/ENstayעַל־מַכֵּהוּal-mak/KE/huupon him that smote themוְנִשְׁעַןve/nish/ANbut shall stayעַל־יְהוָהal-Adonaiupon Adonaiקְדוֹשׁ־יִשְׂרָאֵלke/DOSH-Yis/ra/ELthe Holy One of Israelבֶּאֱמֶת׃be/e/METin truth

    And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them, but shall stay upon the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.

21. 21

    שְׁאָרshe/ARthe remnantיָשׁוּבya/SHUVshall returnאַףafyeaגַּםgamevenשְׁאָרshe/ARthe remnantיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVof Jacobאֶל־אֵלel-elunto Godגִּבּוֹר׃gib/BORthe mighty

    The remnant shall return, yea, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.

22. 22

    כִּיkiforאִם־יִהְיֶהim-yih/YEthough beעַמְּךָam/me/KHAyour peopleיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelכְּחוֹלke/CHOLas the sandהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaשְׁאָרshe/ARa remnantיָשׁוּבya/SHUVshall returnבּוֹboof themכִּלָּיוֹןkil/la/YONthe consumptionחָרוּץcha/RUTSdecreedשׁוֹטֵףsho/TEFshall overflowצְדָקָה׃tse/da/KAwith righteousness

    For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return; the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.

23. 23

    כִּיkiforכָלָהkha/LAa consumptionוְנֶחֱרָצָהve/ne/che/ra/TSAeven determinedאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiיְהוִהAdonaiGodצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsעֹשֶׂהo/SEshall makeבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revinכׇּל־הָאָרֶץ׃kol-ha/A/retsall the land

    For the Lord God of Hosts shall make a consumption, even determined in all the land.

24. 24

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saithאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiיְהוִהAdonaiGodצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsאַל־תִּירָאal-ti/RAbe not afraidעַמִּיam/MIO my peopleיֹשֵׁבyo/SHEVthat dwell inצִיּוֹןTsiy/YONZionמֵאַשּׁוּרme/Ash/SHURof the Assyrianבַּשֵּׁבֶטbash/SHE/vetwith a rodיַכֶּכָּהyak/KEK/kahe shall smite youוּמַטֵּהוּu/mat/TE/huand his staffיִשָּׂא־עָלֶיךָyis/SA-a/LE/khahe shall lift up against youבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhafter the mannerמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimof Egypt

    Therefore, thus saith the Lord God of Hosts: O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian; he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.

25. 25

    כִּי־עוֹדki-odfor yetמְעַטme/ATa littleמִזְעָרmiz/ARa very little whileוְכָלָהve/kha/LAand shall ceaseזַעַםZA/amthe indignationוְאַפִּיve/ap/PIand my angerעַל־תַּבְלִיתָם׃al-tav/li/TAMin their destruction

    For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.

26. 26

    וְעוֹרֵרve/o/RERand shall stir upעָלָיוa/LAYVfor himיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsשׁוֹטshota scourgeכְּמַכַּתke/mak/KATaccording to the slaughterמִדְיָןMid/YANof Midianבְּצוּרbe/TSURat the rockעוֹרֵבO/REVof Orebוּמַטֵּהוּu/mat/TE/huand as his rod wasעַל־הַיָּםal-hay/YAMupon the seaוּנְשָׂאוֹu/ne/sa/Oand he shall lift it upבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhafter the mannerמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimof Egypt

    And the Lord of Hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; and as his rod was upon the sea so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.

27. 27

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיָסוּרya/SURshall be taken awayסֻבֳּלוֹsub/bo/LOhis burdenמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponשִׁכְמֶךָshikh/ME/khayour shoulderוְעֻלּוֹve/ul/LOand his yokeמֵעַלme/ALfrom uponצַוָּארֶךָtsav/va/RE/khayour neckוְחֻבַּלve/chub/BALand shall be destroyedעֹלolthe yokeמִפְּנֵי־שָׁמֶן׃mip/pe/NE-SHA/menbecause of the anointing

    And it shall come to pass in that day that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.

28. 28

    בָּאbahe is comeעַל־עַיַּתal-Ay/YATto Aiathעָבַרa/VARhe is passedבְּמִגְרוֹןbe/Mig/RONto Migronלְמִכְמָשׂle/Mikh/MASat Michmashיַפְקִידyaf/KIDhe laid upכֵּלָיו׃ke/LAYVhis carriages

    He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages.

29. 29

    עָבְרוּa/ve/RUthey are gone overמַעְבָּרָהma/ba/RAthe passageגֶּבַעGE/vaGebaמָלוֹןma/LONtheir lodgingלָנוּLA/nuthey took upחָרְדָהcha/re/DAis afraidהָרָמָהHa/ra/MARamathגִּבְעַתGiv/ATGibeahשָׁאוּלSha/ULof Saulנָסָה׃NA/sais fled

    They are gone over the passage; they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramath is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.

30. 30

    צַהֲלִיtsa/ha/LIlift upקוֹלֵךְko/LEKHyour voiceבַּת־גַּלִּיםbat-Gal/LIMO daughter of Gallimהַקְשִׁיבִיhak/SHI/vicause it to be heardלַיְשָׁהLAY/shaunto Laishעֲנִיָּהa/niy/YAO poorעֲנָתוֹת׃A/na/TOTAnathoth

    Lift up the voice, O daughter of Gallim; cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.

31. 31

    נָדְדָהna/de/DAis removedמַדְמֵנָהMad/me/NAMadmenahיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthe inhabitantsהַגֵּבִיםhag/Ge/VIMof Gebimהֵעִיזוּ׃he/I/zugather themselves to flee

    Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.

32. 32

    עוֹדodas yetהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthat dayבְּנֹבbe/NOVat Nobלַעֲמֹדla/a/MODshall he remainיְנֹפֵףye/no/FEFhe shall shakeיָדוֹya/DOhis handהַרharagainst the mountבַּת־צִיּוֹןbat-Tsiy/YONof the daughter of Zionגִּבְעַתgiv/ATthe hillיְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalem

    As yet shall he remain at Nob that day; he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

33. 33

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָאָדוֹןha/a/DONthe LordיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsמְסָעֵףme/sa/EFshall lopפֻּארָהpu/RAthe boughבְּמַעֲרָצָהbe/ma/a/ra/TSAwith terrorוְרָמֵיve/ra/MEand the high onesהַקּוֹמָהhak/ko/MAof statureגְּדוּעִיםge/du/IMshall be hewn downוְהַגְּבֹהִיםve/hag/ge/vo/HIMand the haughtyיִשְׁפָּלוּ׃yish/PA/lushall be humbled

    Behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts shall lop the bough with terror; and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down; and the haughty shall be humbled.

34. 34

    וְנִקַּףve/nik/KAFand he shall cut downסִבְכֵיsiv/KHEthe thicketsהַיְּעָרוֹתhay/ye/a/ROTof the forestsבַּבַּרְזֶלbab/bar/ZELwith ironוְהַלְּבָנוֹןve/hal/Le/va/NONand Lebanonבְּאַדִּירbe/ad/DIRby a mighty oneיִפּוֹל׃yip/POLshall fall

    And he shall cut down the thickets of the forests with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.
