   אַךְakhneverthelessלֹאlonotמוּעָףmu/AFthe dimness shall beלַאֲשֶׁרla/a/SHERsuch asמוּצָקmu/TSAKvexationלָהּlaherכָּעֵתka/ETwhenהָרִאשׁוֹןha/ri/SHONat firstהֵקַלhe/KALhe lightly afflictedאַרְצָהAR/tsathe landזְבֻלוּןZe/vu/LUNof Zebulunוְאַרְצָהve/AR/tsaand the landנַפְתָּלִיNaf/ta/LIof Naphtaliוְהָאַחֲרוֹןve/ha/a/cha/RONand afterwardsהִכְבִּידhikh/BIDdid more grievously afflictדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhby the wayיַם־סוּףyam-Sufof the Red SeaעֵבֶרE/verbeyondהַיַּרְדֵּןHay/yar/DENJordanגְּלִילGe/LILGalileeהַגּוֹיִם׃hag/go/YIMof the nations

   Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, and afterwards did more grievously afflict by the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan in Galilee of the nations.

   הָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַהֹלְכִיםha/hol/KHIMthat walkedבַּחֹשֶׁךְba/CHO/shekhin darknessרָאוּra/Usawאוֹרora lightגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEthey that dwellבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landצַלְמָוֶתtsal/MA/vetof the shadow of deathאוֹרorthe lightנָגַהּna/GAshinedעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMupon them

   The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

   הִרְבִּיתָhir/BI/tayou multipliedהַגּוֹיhag/GOYthe nationהִגְדַּלְתָּhig/DAL/taincreasedהַשִּׂמְחָהhas/sim/CHAthe joyשָׂמְחוּsa/me/CHUthey joyלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youכְּשִׂמְחַתke/sim/CHATaccording to the joyבַּקָּצִירbak/ka/TSIRin harvestכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasיָגִילוּya/GI/lumen rejoiceבְּחַלְּקָםbe/chal/le/KAMwhen they divideשָׁלָל׃sha/LALthe spoil

   Thou hast multiplied the nation, and increased the joy—they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

   כִּיkiforאֶת־עֹלet-olthe yokeסֻבֳּלוֹsub/bo/LOof his burdenוְאֵתve/ETandמַטֵּהmat/TEthe staffשִׁכְמוֹshikh/MOof his shoulderשֵׁבֶטSHE/vetthe rodהַנֹּגֵשׂ־בּוֹhan/no/GES-boof his oppressorהַחִתֹּתָ׃ha/chit/TO/tayou broke

   For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor.

   כִּיkiforכׇל־סְאוֹןkhol-se/ONevery battleסֹאֵןso/ENof the stormy warriorבְּרַעַשׁbe/RA/ashwith confused noiseוְשִׂמְלָהve/sim/LAand garmentsמְגוֹלָלָהme/go/la/LArolledבְדָמִיםve/da/MIMin bloodוְהָיְתָהve/ha/ye/TAbut shall beלִשְׂרֵפָהlis/re/FAwith burningמַאֲכֹלֶתma/a/KHO/letfuelאֵשׁ׃eshof fire

   For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

   כִּי־יֶלֶדki-YE/ledfor a childיֻלַּד־לָנוּyul/LAD-LA/nuis born unto usבֵּןbena sonנִתַּן־לָנוּnit/TAN-LA/nuis given usוַתְּהִיvat/te/HIand shall beהַמִּשְׂרָהham/mis/RAthe governmentעַל־שִׁכְמוֹal-shikh/MOupon his shoulderוַיִּקְרָאvay/yik/RAand shall be calledשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameפֶּלֶאPE/leWonderfulיוֹעֵץYo/ETSCounselorאֵלelGodגִּבּוֹרGib/BORthe Mightyאֲבִי־עַדa/VI-Adthe Everlasting Fatherשַׂר־שָׁלוֹם׃sar-Sha/LOMthe Prince of Peace

   For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

   לְמַרְבֵּהle/mar/BEof the increaseהַמִּשְׂרָהham/mis/RAof the governmentוּלְשָׁלוֹםu/le/sha/LOMand of peaceאֵין־קֵץen-ketsthere is no endעַל־כִּסֵּאal-kis/SEupon the throneדָוִדDa/VIDof Davidוְעַל־מַמְלַכְתּוֹve/AL-mam/lakh/TOand upon his kingdomלְהָכִיןle/ha/KHINto orderאֹתָהּo/TAitוּלְסַעֲדָהּu/le/sa/a/DAand to establish itבְּמִשְׁפָּטbe/mish/PATwith judgmentוּבִצְדָקָהu/vits/da/KAand with justiceמֵעַתָּהme/at/TAfrom henceforthוְעַד־עוֹלָםve/AD-o/LAMeven foreverקִנְאַתkin/ATthe zealיְהוָהAdonaiof AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsתַּעֲשֶׂה־זֹּאת׃ta/a/SE-zotwill perform this

   Of the increase of government and peace there is no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this.

   דְּבָרוֹde/va/ROhis wordשָׁלַחsha/LACHsentאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiבְּיַעֲקֹבbe/Ya/a/KOVunto Jacobוְנָפַלve/na/FALand it lightedבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃be/Yis/ra/ELupon Israel

   The Lord sent his word unto Jacob and it hath lighted upon Israel.

9. 9

   וְיָדְעוּve/ya/de/Uand shall knowהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכֻּלּוֹkul/LOall of itאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimוְיוֹשֵׁבve/yo/SHEVand the inhabitantשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONof Samariaבְּגַאֲוָהbe/ga/a/VAin prideוּבְגֹדֶלu/ve/GO/deland stoutnessלֵבָבle/VAVof heartלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart:

10. 10

    לְבֵנִיםle/ve/NIMthe bricksנָפָלוּna/FA/luare fallen downוְגָזִיתve/ga/ZITbut with hewn stonesנִבְנֶהniv/NEwe will buildשִׁקְמִיםshik/MIMthe sycamoresגֻּדָּעוּgud/DA/uare cut downוַאֲרָזִיםva/a/ra/ZIMbut cedarsנַחֲלִיף׃na/cha/LIFwe will change

    The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones; the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

11. 11

    וַיְשַׂגֵּבvay/sag/GEVand sets upיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־צָרֵיet-tsa/REthe adversariesרְצִיןRe/TSINof Rezinעָלָיוa/LAYVagainst himוְאֶת־אֹיְבָיוve/ET-oy/VAYVand his enemiesיְסַכְסֵךְ׃ye/sakh/SEKHshall join together

    Therefore the Lord shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

12. 12

    אֲרָםA/RAMthe Syriansמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/dembeforeוּפְלִשְׁתִּיםu/Fe/lish/TIMand the Philistinesמֵאָחוֹרme/a/CHORbehindוַיֹּאכְלוּvay/yo/khe/LUand they shall devourאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלet-Yis/ra/ELIsraelבְּכׇל־פֶּהbe/KHOL-pewith open mouthבְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavis not turned awayאַפּוֹap/POhis angerוְעוֹדve/ODbut stillיָדוֹya/DOhis handנְטוּיָה׃ne/tu/YAis stretched out

    The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

13. 13

    וְהָעָםve/ha/AMand the peopleלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavturns notעַד־הַמַּכֵּהוּad-ham/mak/KE/huunto him that smites themוְאֶת־יְהוָהve/ET-Adonaiand AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsלֹאlonotדָרָשׁוּ׃da/RA/shudo they seek

    For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the Lord of Hosts.

14. 14

    וַיַּכְרֵתvay/yakh/RETand cut offיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiמִיִּשְׂרָאֵלmiy/Yis/ra/ELfrom Israelרֹאשׁroshheadוְזָנָבve/za/NAVand tailכִּפָּהkip/PAbranchוְאַגְמוֹןve/ag/MONand rushיוֹםyomin a dayאֶחָד׃e/CHADone

    Therefore will the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush in one day.

15. 15

    זָקֵןza/KENthe ancientהוּאhuhe isהָרֹאשׁha/ROSHthe headוְנָבִיאve/na/VIand the prophetמוֹרֶה־שֶׁקֶרmo/RE-SHE/kerthat teaches liesהוּאhuhe isהַזָּנָב׃haz/za/NAVthe tail

    The ancient, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

16. 16

    וַיִּהְיוּvay/yih/YUand they wereמְאַשְּׁרֵיme/ash/she/REthe leadersהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleמַתְעִיםmat/IMcause them to errוּמְאֻשָּׁרָיוu/me/ush/sha/RAYVand they that are led of themמְבֻלָּעִים׃me/vul/la/IMare destroyed

    For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

17. 17

    עַל־כֵּןal-kenthereforeעַל־בַּחוּרָיוal-ba/chu/RAYVin their young menלֹא־יִשְׂמַחlo-yis/MACHshall have no joyאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiוְאֶת־יְתֹמָיוve/ET-ye/to/MAYVand their fatherlessוְאֶת־אַלְמְנוֹתָיוve/ET-al/me/no/TAYVand their widowsלֹאlonotיְרַחֵםye/ra/CHEMshall have mercy onכִּיkiforכֻּלָּםkul/LAMevery one of them isחָנֵףcha/NEFa hypocriteוּמֵרַעu/me/RAand an evildoerוְכׇל־פֶּהve/KHOL-peand every mouthדֹּבֵרdo/VERspeaksנְבָלָהne/va/LAfollyבְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavis not turned awayאַפּוֹap/POhis angerוְעוֹדve/ODbut stillיָדוֹya/DOhis handנְטוּיָה׃ne/tu/YAis stretched out

    Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows; for every one of them is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

18. 18

    כִּי־בָעֲרָהki-va/a/RAfor burnsכָאֵשׁkha/ESHas the fireרִשְׁעָהrish/Awickednessשָׁמִירsha/MIRbriersוָשַׁיִתva/SHA/yitand thornsתֹּאכֵלto/KHELit shall devourוַתִּצַּתvat/tits/TSATand shall kindleבְּסִבְכֵיbe/siv/KHEin the thicketsהַיְּעָרוֹתhay/ye/a/ROTof the forestsוַיִּתְאַבְּכוּvay/yit/ab/be/KHUand they shall mount upגֵּאוּתge/UTlike the lifting upעָשָׁן׃a/SHANof smoke

    For wickedness burneth as the fire; it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forests, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

19. 19

    בְּעֶבְרַתbe/ev/RATthrough the wrathיְהוָהAdonaiof AdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsנֶעְתַּםne/TAMis darkenedאָרֶץA/retsthe landוַיְהִיvay/HIand shall beהָעָםha/AMthe peopleכְּמַאֲכֹלֶתke/ma/a/KHO/letas the fuelאֵשׁeshof the fireאִישׁishmanאֶל־אָחִיוel-a/CHIVhis brotherלֹאlonoיַחְמֹלוּ׃yach/MO/lushall spare

    Through the wrath of the Lord of Hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire; no man shall spare his brother.

20. 20

    וַיִּגְזֹרvay/yig/ZORand he shall snatchעַל־יָמִיןal-ya/MINon the right handוְרָעֵבve/ra/EVand shall be hungryוַיֹּאכַלvay/YO/khaland he shall eatעַל־שְׂמֹאולal-se/MOLon the left handוְלֹאve/LOand notשָׂבֵעוּsa/VE/uthey shall be satisfiedאִישׁishevery manבְּשַׂר־זְרֹעוֹbe/SAR-ze/ro/Othe flesh of his own armיֹאכֵלוּ׃yo/KHE/luthey shall eat

    And he shall snatch on the right hand and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand and they shall not be satisfied; they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm—

21. 21

    מְנַשֶּׁהMe/nash/SHEManassehאֶת־אֶפְרַיִםet-Ef/RA/yimEphraimוְאֶפְרַיִםve/Ef/RA/yimand Ephraimאֶת־מְנַשֶּׁהet-Me/nash/SHEManassehיַחְדָּוyach/DAVtogetherהֵמָּהHEM/mathey shall beעַל־יְהוּדָהal-Ye/hu/DAagainst Judahבְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבlo-shavis not turned awayאַפּוֹap/POhis angerוְעוֹדve/ODbut stillיָדוֹya/DOhis handנְטוּיָה׃ne/tu/YAis stretched out

    Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
