    אַךְneverthelessלֹאnotמוּעָףthe dimness shall beלַאֲשֶׁרsuch asמוּצָקvexationלָהּherכָּעֵתwhenהָרִאשׁוֹןat firstהֵקַלhe lightly afflictedאַרְצָהthe land ofזְבֻלוּןZebulunוְאַרְצָהand the land ofנַפְתָּלִיNaphtaliוְהָאַחֲרוֹןand afterwardsהִכְבִּידdid more grievously afflictדֶּרֶךְby the way ofיַם־סוּףthe Red SeaעֵבֶרbeyondהַיַּרְדֵּןJordanגְּלִילGalilee ofהַגּוֹיִם׃the nations

    Nevertheless, the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, and afterwards did more grievously afflict by the way of the Red Sea beyond Jordan in Galilee of the nations.

    הָעָםthe peopleהַהֹלְכִיםthat walkedבַּחֹשֶׁךְin darknessרָאוּhave seenאוֹרa lightגָּדוֹלgreatיֹשְׁבֵיthey that dwellבְּאֶרֶץin the land ofצַלְמָוֶתthe shadow of deathאוֹרthe lightנָגַהּhath shinedעֲלֵיהֶם׃upon them

    The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

    הִרְבִּיתָyou have multipliedהַגּוֹיthe nationהִגְדַּלְתָּand increasedהַשִּׂמְחָהthe joyשָׂמְחוּthey joyלְפָנֶיךָbefore youכְּשִׂמְחַתaccording to the joyבַּקָּצִירin harvestכַּאֲשֶׁרand asיָגִילוּmen rejoiceבְּחַלְּקָםwhen they divideשָׁלָל׃the spoil

    Thou hast multiplied the nation, and increased the joy—they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

    כִּיforאֶת־עֹלthe yoke ofסֻבֳּלוֹhis burdenוְאֵתandמַטֵּהthe staff ofשִׁכְמוֹhis shoulderשֵׁבֶטthe rod ofהַנֹּגֵשׂ־בּוֹhis oppressorהַחִתֹּתָ׃you have broken

    For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor.

    כִּיforכׇל־סְאוֹןevery battle ofסֹאֵןthe stormy warriorבְּרַעַשׁwith confused noiseוְשִׂמְלָהand garmentsמְגוֹלָלָהrolledבְדָמִיםin bloodוְהָיְתָהbut shall beלִשְׂרֵפָהwith burningמַאֲכֹלֶתand fuel ofאֵשׁ׃fire

    For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

    כִּי־יֶלֶדfor a childיֻלַּד־לָנוּis born unto usבֵּןa sonנִתַּן־לָנוּis given unto usוַתְּהִיand shall beהַמִּשְׂרָהthe governmentעַל־שִׁכְמוֹupon his shoulderוַיִּקְרָאand shall be calledשְׁמוֹhis nameפֶּלֶאWonderfulיוֹעֵץCounselorאֵלGodגִּבּוֹרthe Mightyאֲבִי־עַדthe Everlasting Fatherשַׂר־שָׁלוֹם׃the Prince of Peace

    For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

    לְמַרְבֵּהof the increase ofהַמִּשְׂרָהthe governmentוּלְשָׁלוֹםand of peaceאֵין־קֵץthere is no endעַל־כִּסֵּאupon the throne ofדָוִדDavidוְעַל־מַמְלַכְתּוֹand upon his kingdomלְהָכִיןto orderאֹתָהּitוּלְסַעֲדָהּand to establish itבְּמִשְׁפָּטwith judgmentוּבִצְדָקָהand with justiceמֵעַתָּהfrom henceforthוְעַד־עוֹלָםeven foreverקִנְאַתthe zeal ofיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsתַּעֲשֶׂה־זֹּאת׃will perform this

    Of the increase of government and peace there is no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will perform this.

    דְּבָרוֹhis wordשָׁלַחsentאֲדֹנָיthe Lordבְּיַעֲקֹבunto Jacobוְנָפַלand it hath lightedבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃upon Israel

    The Lord sent his word unto Jacob and it hath lighted upon Israel.

    וְיָדְעוּand shall knowהָעָםthe peopleכֻּלּוֹall of itאֶפְרַיִםEphraimוְיוֹשֵׁבand the inhabitant ofשֹׁמְרוֹןSamariaבְּגַאֲוָהin prideוּבְגֹדֶלand arrogancy ofלֵבָבheartלֵאמֹר׃saying

    And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart:

    לְבֵנִיםthe bricksנָפָלוּare fallen downוְגָזִיתbut with hewn stonesנִבְנֶהwe will buildשִׁקְמִיםthe sycamoresגֻּדָּעוּare cut downוַאֲרָזִיםbut cedarsנַחֲלִיף׃we will change them

    The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones; the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

  11. 11

    וַיְשַׂגֵּבand sets upיְהוָהthe Lordאֶת־צָרֵיthe adversaries ofרְצִיןRezinעָלָיוagainst himוְאֶת־אֹיְבָיוand his enemiesיְסַכְסֵךְ׃shall join together

    Therefore the Lord shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

  12. 12

    אֲרָםthe Syriansמִקֶּדֶםbeforeוּפְלִשְׁתִּיםand the Philistinesמֵאָחוֹרbehindוַיֹּאכְלוּand they shall devourאֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelבְּכׇל־פֶּהwith open mouthבְּכׇל־זֹאתfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבis not turned awayאַפּוֹhis angerוְעוֹדbut stillיָדוֹhis handנְטוּיָה׃is stretched out

    The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

    וְהָעָםand the peopleלֹא־שָׁבturneth notעַד־הַמַּכֵּהוּunto him that smiteth themוְאֶת־יְהוָהand the Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsלֹאnotדָרָשׁוּ׃do they seek

    For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the Lord of Hosts.

  14. 14

    וַיַּכְרֵתand cut offיְהוָהthe Lordמִיִּשְׂרָאֵלfrom Israelרֹאשׁheadוְזָנָבand tailכִּפָּהbranchוְאַגְמוֹןand rushיוֹםin a dayאֶחָד׃one

    Therefore will the Lord cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush in one day.

  15. 15

    זָקֵןthe ancientהוּאhe isהָרֹאשׁthe headוְנָבִיאand the prophetמוֹרֶה־שֶׁקֶרthat teacheth liesהוּאhe isהַזָּנָב׃the tail

    The ancient, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

  16. 16

    וַיִּהְיוּand they wereמְאַשְּׁרֵיthe leaders ofהָעָם־הַזֶּהthis peopleמַתְעִיםcause them to errוּמְאֻשָּׁרָיוand they that are led of themמְבֻלָּעִים׃are destroyed

    For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

  17. 17

    עַל־כֵּןthereforeעַל־בַּחוּרָיוin their young menלֹא־יִשְׂמַחshall have no joyאֲדֹנָיthe Lordוְאֶת־יְתֹמָיוand their fatherlessוְאֶת־אַלְמְנוֹתָיוand their widowsלֹאnotיְרַחֵםshall have mercy onכִּיforכֻּלָּםevery one of them isחָנֵףa hypocriteוּמֵרַעand an evildoerוְכׇל־פֶּהand every mouthדֹּבֵרspeakethנְבָלָהfollyבְּכׇל־זֹאתfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבis not turned awayאַפּוֹhis angerוְעוֹדbut stillיָדוֹhis handנְטוּיָה׃is stretched out

    Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows; for every one of them is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

  18. 18

    כִּי־בָעֲרָהfor burnethכָאֵשׁas the fireרִשְׁעָהwickednessשָׁמִירbriersוָשַׁיִתand thornsתֹּאכֵלit shall devourוַתִּצַּתand shall kindleבְּסִבְכֵיin the thickets ofהַיְּעָרוֹתthe forestsוַיִּתְאַבְּכוּand they shall mount upגֵּאוּתlike the lifting up ofעָשָׁן׃smoke

    For wickedness burneth as the fire; it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forests, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.

  19. 19

    בְּעֶבְרַתthrough the wrath ofיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsנֶעְתַּםis darkenedאָרֶץthe landוַיְהִיand shall beהָעָםthe peopleכְּמַאֲכֹלֶתas the fuel ofאֵשׁthe fireאִישׁmanאֶל־אָחִיוhis brotherלֹאnoיַחְמֹלוּ׃shall spare

    Through the wrath of the Lord of Hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire; no man shall spare his brother.

  20. 20

    וַיִּגְזֹרand he shall snatchעַל־יָמִיןon the right handוְרָעֵבand shall be hungryוַיֹּאכַלand he shall eatעַל־שְׂמֹאולon the left handוְלֹאand notשָׂבֵעוּthey shall be satisfiedאִישׁevery manבְּשַׂר־זְרֹעוֹthe flesh of his own armיֹאכֵלוּ׃they shall eat

    And he shall snatch on the right hand and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand and they shall not be satisfied; they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm—

  21. 21

    מְנַשֶּׁהManassehאֶת־אֶפְרַיִםEphraimוְאֶפְרַיִםand Ephraimאֶת־מְנַשֶּׁהManassehיַחְדָּוtogetherהֵמָּהthey shall beעַל־יְהוּדָהagainst Judahבְּכׇל־זֹאתfor all thisלֹא־שָׁבis not turned awayאַפּוֹhis angerוְעוֹדbut stillיָדוֹhis handנְטוּיָה׃is stretched out

    Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh; they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
