   Moreover, the word of the Lord said unto me: Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man’s pen, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

   וְאָעִידָהve/a/I/daand I took to recordלִּיliunto meעֵדִיםe/DIMwitnessesנֶאֱמָנִיםne/e/ma/NIMfaithfulאֵת־אוּרִיָּהet-U/riy/YAUriahהַכֹּהֵןhak/ko/HENthe priestוְאֶת־זְכַרְיָהוּve/ET-ze/khar/YA/huand Zechariahבֶּןbensonיְבֶרֶכְיָהוּ׃Ye/ve/rekh/YA/huof Jeberechiah

   And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

   וָאֶקְרַבva/ek/RAVand I wentאֶל־הַנְּבִיאָהel-han/ne/vi/Aunto the prophetessוַתַּהַרvat/TA/harand she conceivedוַתֵּלֶדvat/TE/ledand bareבֵּןbena sonוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merthen saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלַיe/LAYunto meקְרָאke/RAcallשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameמַהֵרMa/HERMaher-שָׁלָלsha/LALshalal-חָשׁchashhash-בַּז׃bazbaz

   And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived and bare a son. Then said the Lord to me: Call his name, Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

   כִּיkiforהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלֹאlonotיֵדַעye/DAshall have knowledgeהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe childקְרֹאke/ROto cryאָבִיa/VImy fatherוְאִמִּיve/im/MIand my motherבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeיִשָּׂאyis/SAshall be taken awayאֶת־חֵילet-chelthe richesדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekof Damascusוְאֵתve/ETandשְׁלַלshe/LALthe spoilשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONof Samariaלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeמֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר׃ME/lekh-Ash/SHURthe king of Assyria

   For behold, the child shall not have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, before the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.

   וַיֹּסֶףvay/YO/sefalsoיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiדַּבֵּרdab/BERspokeאֵלַיe/LAYunto meעוֹדodagainלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   The Lord spake also unto me again, saying:

   יַעַןYA/anforasmuch asכִּיkithatמָאַסma/ASrefusesהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleאֵת־מֵיet-methe watersהַשִּׁלֹחַhash/Shi/LO/achof Shiloahהַהֹלְכִיםha/hol/KHIMthat goלְאַטle/ATsoftlyוּמְשׂוֹשׂu/me/SOSand rejoice inאֶת־רְצִיןet-Re/TSINRezinוּבֶן־רְמַלְיָהוּ׃u/VEN-re/mal/YA/huand the son of Remaliah

   Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;

   וְלָכֵןve/la/KHENnow thereforeהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiמַעֲלֶהma/a/LEbrings upעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themאֶת־מֵיet-methe watersהַנָּהָרhan/na/HARof the riverהָעֲצוּמִיםha/a/tsu/MIMstrongוְהָרַבִּיםve/ha/rab/BIMand manyאֶת־מֶלֶךְet-ME/lekheven the kingאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURof Assyriaוְאֶת־כׇּל־כְּבוֹדוֹve/ET-kol-ke/vo/DOand all his gloryוְעָלָהve/a/LAand shall come upעַל־כׇּל־אֲפִיקָיוal-kol-a/fi/KAYVover all his channelsוְהָלַךְve/ha/LAKHand shall goעַל־כׇּל־גְּדוֹתָיו׃al-kol-ge/do/TAYVover all his banks

   Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks.

   וְחָלַףve/cha/LAFand shall passבִּיהוּדָהbI/hu/DAthrough Judahשָׁטַףsha/TAFshall overflowוְעָבַרve/a/VARand go overעַד־צַוָּארad-tsav/VAReven to the neckיַגִּיעַyag/GI/ashall reachוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand shall beמֻטּוֹתmut/TOTthe stretching outכְּנָפָיוke/na/FAYVof his wingsמְלֹאme/LOthe fullnessרֹחַב־אַרְצְךָRO/chav-ar/tse/KHAof the breadth of your landעִמָּנוּIm/MA/nuO Immanu-אֵל׃elel

   And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

   רֹעוּRO/uassociate yourselvesעַמִּיםam/MIMO you peopleוָחֹתּוּva/CHOT/tuand be broken in piecesוְהַאֲזִינוּve/ha/a/ZI/nuand give earכֹּלkolallמֶרְחַקֵּי־אָרֶץmer/chak/KE-A/retsyou of far countriesהִתְאַזְּרוּhit/az/ze/RUgird yourselvesוָחֹתּוּva/CHOT/tuand be broken in piecesהִתְאַזְּרוּhit/az/ze/RUgird yourselvesוָחֹתּוּ׃va/CHOT/tuand be broken in pieces

   Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear all ye of far countries; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

    עֻצוּU/tsutake counselעֵצָהe/TSAtogetherוְתֻפָרve/tu/FARand it shall come to naughtדַּבְּרוּdab/be/RUspeakדָבָרda/VARthe wordוְלֹאve/LOand it shall notיָקוּםya/KUMstandכִּיkiforעִמָּנוּim/MA/nuwith usאֵל׃elis God

    Take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand; for God is with us.

11. 11

    כִּיkiforכֹהkhothusאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהֹוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלַיe/LAYto meכְּחֶזְקַתke/chez/KATwith a strongהַיָּדhay/YADhandוְיִסְּרֵנִיve/yis/se/RE/niand instructed meמִלֶּכֶתmil/LE/khetthat I should not walkבְּדֶרֶךְbe/DE/rekhby the wayהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEof this peopleלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:

    לֹא־תֹאמְרוּןlo-to/me/RUNsay you notקֶשֶׁרKE/shera confederacyלְכֹלle/KHOLto allאֲשֶׁר־יֹאמַרa/SHER-yo/MARto whom shall sayהָעָם־הַזֶּהha/AM-haz/ZEthis peopleקָשֶׁרKA/shera confederacyוְאֶת־מוֹרָאוֹve/ET-mo/ra/Oand their fearלֹא־תִירְאוּlo-ti/re/Ufear you notוְלֹאve/LOneitherתַעֲרִיצוּ׃ta/a/RI/tsube afraid

    Say ye not, A confederacy, to all to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.

    אֶת־יְהוָהet-AdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsאֹתוֹo/TOhimselfתַקְדִּישׁוּtak/DI/shusanctifyוְהוּאve/HUand let him beמוֹרַאֲכֶםmo/ra/a/KHEMyour fearוְהוּאve/HUand let him beמַעֲרִצְכֶם׃ma/a/rits/KHEMyour dread

    Sanctify the Lord of Hosts himself, and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

14. 14

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand he shall beלְמִקְדָּשׁle/mik/DASHfor a sanctuaryוּלְאֶבֶןu/le/E/venbut for a stoneנֶגֶףNE/gefof stumblingוּלְצוּרu/le/TSURand for a rockמִכְשׁוֹלmikh/SHOLof offenseלִשְׁנֵיlish/NEto bothבָתֵּיvat/TEthe housesיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelלְפַחle/FACHfor a ginוּלְמוֹקֵשׁu/le/mo/KESHand for a snareלְיוֹשֵׁבle/yo/SHEVto the inhabitantsיְרוּשָׁלָיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalem

    And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15. 15

    וְכָשְׁלוּve/kha/she/LUand shall stumbleבָםvamamong themרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוְנָפְלוּve/na/fe/LUand shall fallוְנִשְׁבָּרוּve/nish/BA/ruand be brokenוְנוֹקְשׁוּve/nok/SHUand be snaredוְנִלְכָּדוּ׃ve/nil/KA/duand be taken

    And many among them shall stumble and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

16. 16

    צוֹרtsorbind upתְּעוּדָהte/u/DAthe testimonyחֲתוֹםcha/TOMsealתּוֹרָהto/RAthe lawבְּלִמֻּדָי׃be/lim/mu/DAYamong my disciples

    Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

17. 17

    וְחִכִּיתִיve/chik/KI/tiand I will waitלַיהוָהla-Adonaiupon Adonaiהַמַּסְתִּירham/mas/TIRthat hidesפָּנָיוpa/NAYVhis faceמִבֵּיתmib/BETfrom the houseיַעֲקֹבYa/a/KOVof Jacobוְקִוֵּיתִי־לוֹ׃ve/kiv/VE/ti-loand I will look for him

    And I will wait upon the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18. 18

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאָנֹכִיa/no/KHIIוְהַיְלָדִיםve/hay/la/DIMand the childrenאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomנָתַן־לִיna/TAN-ligave meיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלְאֹתוֹתle/o/TOTfor signsוּלְמוֹפְתִיםu/le/mof/TIMand for wondersבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelמֵעִםme/IMfromיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiצְבָאוֹתTse/va/OTof Hostsהַשֹּׁכֵןhash/sho/KHENwhich dwellsבְּהַרbe/HARin mountצִיּוֹן׃Tsiy/YONZion

    Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of Hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.

19. 19

    וְכִי־יֹאמְרוּve/KHI-yo/me/RUand when they shall sayאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMunto youדִּרְשׁוּdir/SHUseekאֶל־הָאֹבוֹתel-ha/o/VOTunto them that have familiar spiritsוְאֶל־הַיִּדְּעֹנִיםve/EL-hay/yid/de/o/NIMand unto wizardsהַמְצַפְצְפִיםham/tsaf/tse/FIMthat peepוְהַמַּהְגִּיםve/ham/mah/GIMand that mutterהֲלוֹא־עַםha/LO-amshould not a peopleאֶל־אֱלֹהָיוel-e/lo/HAYVunto their Godיִדְרֹשׁyid/ROSHseekבְּעַדbe/ADforהַחַיִּיםha/chay/YIMthe livingלִשְׁמֹעַlish/MO/ato hearמֵאֵתme/ETfromהַמֵּתִים׃ham/me/TIMthe dead

    And when they shall say unto you: Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep and mutter—should not a people seek unto their God for the living to hear from the dead?

20. 20

    לְתוֹרָהle/to/RAto the lawוְלִתְעוּדָהve/lit/u/DAand to the testimonyאִם־לֹאim-loif notיֹאמְרוּyo/me/RUthey will speakכַּדָּבָרkad/da/VARaccording to the wordהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERit is becauseאֵין־לוֹen-lothey have noשָׁחַר׃SHA/charlight

    To the law and to the testimony; and if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

21. 21

    וְעָבַרve/a/VARand shall passבָּהּbain itנִקְשֶׁהnik/SHEhardly besteadוְרָעֵבve/ra/EVand hungryוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand beכִי־יִרְעַבkhi-yir/AVthat when they are hungryוְהִתְקַצַּףve/hit/kats/TSAFshall fret themselvesוְקִלֵּלve/kil/LELand curseבְּמַלְכּוֹbe/mal/KOtheir kingוּבֵאלֹהָיוu/ve/lo/HAYVand their Godוּפָנָהu/fa/NAand lookלְמָעְלָה׃le/MA/laupward

    And they shall pass through it hardly bestead and hungry; and it shall come to pass that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

22. 22

    וְאֶל־אֶרֶץve/EL-E/retsand unto the earthיַבִּיטyab/BITthey shall lookוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdצָרָהtsa/RAtroubleוַחֲשֵׁכָהva/cha/she/KHAand darknessמְעוּףme/UFdimnessצוּקָהtsu/KAof anguishוַאֲפֵלָהva/a/fe/LAand to darknessמְנֻדָּח׃me/nud/DACHshall be driven

    And they shall look unto the earth and behold trouble, and darkness, dimness of anguish, and shall be driven to darkness.
