   And it came to pass in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin, king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up toward Jerusalem to war against it, but could not prevail against it.

   וַיֻּגַּדvay/yug/GADand it was toldלְבֵיתle/VETto the houseדָּוִדDa/VIDof Davidלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingנָחָהNA/chais confederateאֲרָםA/RAMSyriaעַל־אֶפְרָיִםal-Ef/RA/yimwith Ephraimוַיָּנַעvay/YA/naand was movedלְבָבוֹle/va/VOhis heartוּלְבַבu/le/VAVand the heartעַמּוֹam/MOof his peopleכְּנוֹעַke/NO/aas are movedעֲצֵי־יַעַרa/TSE-YA/arthe trees of the woodמִפְּנֵי־רוּחַ׃mip/pe/NE-RU/achwith the wind

   And it was told the house of David, saying: Syria is confederate with Ephraim. And his heart was moved, and the heart of his people, as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merthen saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶל־יְשַׁעְיָהוּel-Ye/sha/YA/huunto Isaiahצֵא־נָאtse-nago forth nowלִקְרַאתlik/RATto meetאָחָזA/CHAZAhazאַתָּהat/TAyouוּשְׁאָרu/She/ARand Shear-יָשׁוּבya/SHUVjashubבְּנֶךָbe/NE/khayour sonאֶל־קְצֵהel-ke/TSEat the endתְּעָלַתte/a/LATof the conduitהַבְּרֵכָהhab/be/re/KHAof the poolהָעֶלְיוֹנָהha/el/yo/NAthe upperאֶל־מְסִלַּתel-me/sil/LATin the highwayשְׂדֵהse/DEof the fieldכוֹבֵס׃kho/VESof the fuller

   Then said the Lord unto Isaiah: Go forth now to meet Ahaz, thou and Shearjashub thy son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field;

   וְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himהִשָּׁמֵרhish/sha/MERtake heedוְהַשְׁקֵטve/hash/KETand be quietאַל־תִּירָאal-ti/RAfear notוּלְבָבְךָu/le/va/ve/KHAneitherאַל־יֵרַךְal-ye/RAKHbe faint-heartedמִשְּׁנֵיmish/she/NEfor the twoזַנְבוֹתzan/VOTtailsהָאוּדִיםha/u/DIMof the firebrandsהָעֲשֵׁנִיםha/a/she/NIMthe smokingהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseבׇּחֳרִי־אַףbo/cho/RI-affor the fierce angerרְצִיןRe/TSINof Rezinוַאֲרָםva/A/RAMwith Syriaוּבֶן־רְמַלְיָהוּ׃u/VEN-re/mal/YA/huand the son of Remaliah

   And say unto him: Take heed, and be quiet; fear not, neither be faint-hearted for the two tails of these smoking firebrands, for the fierce anger of Rezin with Syria, and of the son of Remaliah.

   יַעַןYA/anbecauseכִּי־יָעַץki-ya/ATStook counselעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaagainst youאֲרָםA/RAMSyriaרָעָהra/AevilאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimוּבֶן־רְמַלְיָהוּu/VEN-re/mal/YA/huand the son of Remaliahלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

   Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have taken evil counsel against thee, saying:

   נַעֲלֶהna/a/LElet us go upבִיהוּדָהVi/hu/DAagainst Judahוּנְקִיצֶנָּהu/ne/ki/TSEN/naand vex itוְנַבְקִעֶנָּהve/nav/ki/EN/naand let us make a breach thereinאֵלֵינוּe/LE/nufor usוְנַמְלִיךְve/nam/LIKHand setמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingבְּתוֹכָהּbe/to/KHAin its midstאַףafyeaאֵת־בֶּן־טָבְאַל׃et-Ben-ta/ve/ALthe son of Tabeal

   Let us go up against Judah and vex it, and let us make a breach therein for us, and set a king in the midst of it, yea, the son of Tabeal.

   כֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saithאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiיְהוִהAdonaiGodלֹאloit shall notתָקוּםta/KUMstandוְלֹאve/LOneither shall itתִהְיֶה׃tih/YEbe

   Thus saith the Lord God: It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

8. 8

   כִּיkiforרֹאשׁroshthe headאֲרָםA/RAMof SyriaדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekDamascusוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand the headדַּמֶּשֶׂקDam/ME/sekof DamascusרְצִיןRe/TSINRezinוּבְעוֹדu/ve/ODand withinשִׁשִּׁיםshish/SHIMthreescoreוְחָמֵשׁve/cha/MESHand fiveשָׁנָהsha/NAyearsיֵחַתye/CHATshall be brokenאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimמֵעָם׃me/AMfrom being a people

   For the head of Syria is Damascus, and the head of Damascus, Rezin; and within threescore and five years shall Ephraim be broken that it be not a people.

   וְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand the headאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimof EphraimשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONSamariaוְרֹאשׁve/ROSHand the headשֹׁמְרוֹןShom/RONof Samariaבֶּן־רְמַלְיָהוּben-Re/mal/YA/huthe son of Remaliahאִם־לֹאim-loif notתַאֲמִינוּta/a/MI/nuyou will believeכִּי־לֹאki-losurely notתֵאָמֵנוּ׃te/a/ME/nuyou be established

   And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe surely ye shall not be established.

10. 10

    וַיּוֹסֶףvay/YO/sefmoreoverיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiדַּבֵּרdab/BERspoke againאֶל־אָחָזel-A/CHAZunto Ahazלֵאמֹר׃le/MORsaying

    Moreover, the Lord spake again unto Ahaz, saying:

11. 11

    שְׁאַל־לְךָshe/AL-le/KHAask youאוֹתota signמֵעִםme/IMfromיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֶיךָe/lo/HE/khayour Godהַעְמֵקha/MEKask it eitherשְׁאָלָהshe/A/lain the depthsאוֹoorהַגְבֵּהַּhag/BE/ahin the heightsלְמָעְלָה׃le/MA/laabove

    Ask thee a sign of the Lord thy God; ask it either in the depths, or in the heights above.

12. 12

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merbut saidאָחָזA/CHAZAhazלֹא־אֶשְׁאַלlo-esh/ALI will not askוְלֹא־אֲנַסֶּהve/LO-a/nas/SEneither will I temptאֶת־יְהוָה׃et-AdonaiAdonai

    But Ahaz said: I will not ask, neither will I tempt the Lord.

13. 13

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand he saidשִׁמְעוּ־נָאshim/U-nahear you nowבֵּיתbetO houseדָּוִדDa/VIDof Davidהַמְעַטham/ATis it a small thingמִכֶּםmik/KEMfor youהַלְאוֹתhal/OTto wearyאֲנָשִׁיםa/na/SHIMmenכִּיkithatתַלְאוּtal/Uyou will wearyגַּםgamalsoאֶת־אֱלֹהָי׃et-e/lo/HAYmy God

    And he said: Hear ye now, O house of David; is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?

14. 14

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeיִתֵּןyit/TENshall giveאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiהוּאhuhimselfלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youאוֹתota signהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָעַלְמָהha/al/MAa virginהָרָהha/RAshall conceiveוְיֹלֶדֶתve/yo/LE/detand shall bearבֵּןbena sonוְקָרָאתve/ka/RATand shall callשְׁמוֹshe/MOhis nameעִמָּנוּIm/MA/nuImmanu-אֵל׃elel

    Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign—Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and shall bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

15. 15

    חֶמְאָהchem/Abutterוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand honeyיֹאכֵלyo/KHELshall he eatלְדַעְתּוֹle/da/TOthat he may knowמָאוֹסma/OSto refuseבָּרָעba/RAthe evilוּבָחוֹרu/va/CHORand chooseבַּטּוֹב׃bat/TOVthe good

    Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil and to choose the good.

16. 16

    כִּיkiforבְּטֶרֶםbe/TE/rembeforeיֵדַעye/DAhe shall knowהַנַּעַרhan/NA/arthe childמָאֹסma/OSto refuseבָּרָעba/RAthe evilוּבָחֹרu/va/CHORand chooseבַּטּוֹבbat/TOVthe goodתֵּעָזֵבte/a/ZEVshall be forsakenהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאַתָּהat/TAyouקָץkatsabhorמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofשְׁנֵיshe/NEthe twoמְלָכֶיהָ׃me/la/KHE/haher kings

    For before the child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her kings.

17. 17

    יָבִיאya/VIshall bringיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiעָלֶיךָa/LE/khaupon youוְעַל־עַמְּךָve/AL-am/me/KHAand upon your peopleוְעַל־בֵּיתve/AL-betand upon the houseאָבִיךָa/VI/khaof your fatherיָמִיםya/MIMdaysאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatלֹא־בָאוּlo-VA/uhave not comeלְמִיּוֹםle/miy/YOMfrom the dayסוּר־אֶפְרַיִםsur-Ef/RA/yimthe departing of Ephraimמֵעַלme/ALfromיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֵת־מֶלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר׃et-ME/lekh-ash/SHURthe king of Assyria

    The Lord shall bring upon thee, and upon thy people, and upon thy father’s house, days that have not come from the day that Ephraim departed from Judah, the king of Assyria.

18. 18

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיִשְׁרֹקyish/ROKshall hissיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַזְּבוּבlaz/ze/VUVfor the flyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבִּקְצֵהbik/TSEin the uttermost partמִצְרָיִםMits/RA/yimof Egyptוְלַדְּבוֹרָהve/lad/de/vo/RAand for the beeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat isבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landאַשּׁוּר׃Ash/SHURof Assyria

    And it shall come to pass in that day that the Lord shall hiss for the fly that is in the uttermost part of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.

19. 19

    וּבָאוּu/VA/uand they shall comeוְנָחוּve/na/CHUand shall restכֻלָּםkhul/LAMall of themבְּנַחֲלֵיbe/na/cha/LEin the valleysהַבַּתּוֹתhab/bat/TOTof the desolationsוּבִנְקִיקֵיu/vin/ki/KEand in the holesהַסְּלָעִיםhas/se/la/IMof the rocksוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand in allהַנַּעֲצוּצִיםhan/na/a/tsu/TSIMthe thornsוּבְכֹלu/ve/KHOLand in allהַנַּהֲלֹלִים׃han/na/ha/lo/LIMthe bushes

    And they shall come, and shall rest all of them in the desolate valleys, and in the holes of the rocks, and upon all thorns, and upon all bushes.

20. 20

    בַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיְגַלַּחye/gal/LACHshall shaveאֲדֹנָיA/do/NAYAdonaiבְּתַעַרbe/TA/arwith a razorהַשְּׂכִירָהhas/se/khi/RAthat is hiredבְּעֶבְרֵיbe/ev/REby them beyondנָהָרna/HARthe riverבְּמֶלֶךְbe/ME/lekhby the kingאַשּׁוּרAsh/SHURof Assyriaאֶת־הָרֹאשׁet-ha/ROSHthe headוְשַׂעַרve/SA/arand the hairהָרַגְלָיִםha/rag/LA/yimof the feetוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־הַזָּקָןet-haz/za/KANthe beardתִּסְפֶּה׃tis/PEshall it consume

    In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet; and it shall also consume the beard.

21. 21

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיְחַיֶּה־אִישׁye/chay/YE-isha man shall nourishעֶגְלַת־בָּקָרeg/LAT-ba/KARa young cowוּשְׁתֵּי־צֹאן׃ush/TE-tsonand two sheep

    And it shall come to pass in that day, a man shall nourish a young cow and two sheep;

22. 22

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beמֵרֹבme/ROVfrom the abundance ofעֲשׂוֹתa/SOTthey shall giveחָלָבcha/LAVmilkיֹאכֵלyo/KHELshall he eatחֶמְאָהchem/Abutterכִּי־חֶמְאָהki-chem/Afor butterוּדְבַשׁu/de/VASHand honeyיֹאכַלyo/KHALhe shall eatכׇּל־הַנּוֹתָרkol-han/no/TARevery one that is leftבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revinהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe land

    And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk they shall give he shall eat butter; for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.

23. 23

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיִהְיֶהyih/YEwhich shall beכׇל־מָקוֹםkhol-ma/KOMevery placeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhereיִהְיֶה־שָּׁםyih/YE-shamthere wereאֶלֶףE/lefa thousandגֶּפֶןGE/fenvinesבְּאֶלֶףbe/E/lefat a thousandכָּסֶףKA/sefsilverlingsלַשָּׁמִירlash/sha/MIRfor briersוְלַשַּׁיִתve/lash/SHA/yitand thornsיִהְיֶה׃yih/YEwhich shall be

    And it shall come to pass in that day, every place shall be, where there were a thousand vines at a thousand silverlings, which shall be for briers and thorns.

24. 24

    בַּחִצִּיםba/chits/TSIMwith arrowsוּבַקֶּשֶׁתu/vak/KE/shetand with the bowsיָבוֹאya/VOshall men comeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathitherכִּי־שָׁמִירki-sha/MIRbecause briersוָשַׁיִתva/SHA/yitand thornsתִּהְיֶהtih/YEshall becomeכׇל־הָאָרֶץ׃khol-ha/A/retsall the land

    With arrows and with bows shall men come thither, because all the land shall become briers and thorns.

25. 25

    וְכֹלve/KHOLand allהֶהָרִיםhe/ha/RIMthe hillsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthatבַּמַּעְדֵּרbam/ma/DERwith the mattockיֵעָדֵרוּןye/a/de/RUNshall be diggedלֹא־תָבוֹאlo-ta/VOshall not comeשָׁמָּהSHAM/mathitherיִרְאַתyir/ATthe fearשָׁמִירsha/MIRof briersוָשָׁיִתva/SHA/yitand thornsוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beלְמִשְׁלַחle/mish/LACHfor the sending forthשׁוֹרshorof oxenוּלְמִרְמַסu/le/mir/MASand for the treadingשֶׂה׃seof lesser cattle

    And all hills that shall be digged with the mattock, there shall not come thither the fear of briers and thorns; but it shall be for the sending forth of oxen, and the treading of lesser cattle.
