   כִּיforהִנֵּהbeholdהָאָדוֹןthe Lordיְהוָהthe Lordצְבָאוֹתof Hostsמֵסִירdoth take awayמִירוּשָׁלַיִםfrom Jerusalemוּמִיהוּדָהand from Judahמַשְׁעֵןthe stayוּמַשְׁעֵנָהand the staffכֹּלthe wholeמִשְׁעַן־לֶחֶםstaff of breadוְכֹלand the wholeמִשְׁעַן־מָיִם׃stay of water

   For behold, the Lord, the Lord of Hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem, and from Judah, the stay and the staff, the whole staff of bread, and the whole stay of water—

   גִּבּוֹרthe mighty manוְאִישׁand the man ofמִלְחָמָהwarשׁוֹפֵטthe judgeוְנָבִיאand the prophetוְקֹסֵםand the prudentוְזָקֵן׃and the ancient

   The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient;

   שַׂר־חֲמִשִּׁיםthe captain of fiftyוּנְשׂוּא־פָנִיםand the honorable manוְיוֹעֵץand the counselorוַחֲכַםand the cunningחֲרָשִׁיםartificerוּנְבוֹןand the eloquentלָחַשׁ׃orator

   The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator.

4. 4

   וְנָתַתִּיand I will giveנְעָרִיםchildrenשָׂרֵיהֶםas their princesוְתַעֲלוּלִיםand babesיִמְשְׁלוּ־בָם׃shall rule over them

   And I will give children unto them to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them.

5. 5

   וְנִגַּשׂand shall be oppressedהָעָםthe peopleאִישׁevery oneבְּאִישׁby anotherוְאִישׁand every oneבְּרֵעֵהוּby his neighborיִרְהֲבוּshall behave himself proudlyהַנַּעַרthe childבַּזָּקֵןagainst the ancientוְהַנִּקְלֶהand the baseבַּנִּכְבָּד׃against the honorable

   And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor; the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable.

   כִּי־יִתְפֹּשׂwhen shall take holdאִישׁa manבְּאָחִיוof his brotherבֵּיתof the house ofאָבִיוhis fatherלֵאמֹרand shall sayשִׂמְלָהclothingלְכָהyou haveקָצִיןbe you rulerלָּנוּourוְהַמַּכְשֵׁלָהand the ruinהַזֹּאתthisאַל־תְּהִיlet not comeתַּחַתunderיָדֶךָ׃your hand

   When a man shall take hold of his brother of the house of his father, and shall say: Thou hast clothing, be thou our ruler, and let not this ruin come under thy hand—

   יִשָּׂאshall he swearבַיּוֹם־הַהוּאin that dayלֵאמֹרsayingלֹא־אֶהְיֶהI will not beחֹבֵשׁa healerוּבְבֵיתִיand in my houseאֵיןthere is neitherלֶחֶםbreadוְאֵיןand there is notשִׂמְלָהclothingלֹאnotתְשִׂימֻנִיmake meקְצִיןa ruler ofעָם׃the people

   In that day shall he swear, saying: I will not be a healer; for in my house there is neither bread nor clothing; make me not a ruler of the people.

8. 8

   כִּיforכָשְׁלָהis ruinedיְרוּשָׁלַיִםJerusalemוִיהוּדָהand Judahנָפָלis fallenכִּי־לְשׁוֹנוֹתָםbecause their tonguesוּמַעַלְלֵיהֶםand their doingsאֶל־יְהוָהhave been against the Lordלַמְרוֹתto provokeעֵנֵיthe eyes ofכְבוֹדוֹ׃his glory

   For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen, because their tongues and their doings have been against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

9. 9

   הַכָּרַתthe show ofפְּנֵיהֶםtheir countenanceעָנְתָהdoth witnessבָּםagainst themוְחַטָּאתָםand their sinכִּסְדֹםas Sodomהִגִּידוּand doth declareלֹאand they cannotכִחֵדוּhide itאוֹיwoלְנַפְשׁוֹתָםunto their soulsכִּי־גָמְלוּfor they have rewardedלָהֶםunto themselvesרָעָה׃evil

   The show of their countenance doth witness against them, and doth declare their sin to be even as Sodom, and they cannot hide it. Wo unto their souls, for they have rewarded evil unto themselves!

10. 10

    אִמְרוּsayצַדִּיקrighteousכִּי־טוֹבthat it is well with themכִּי־פְרִיfor the fruit ofמַעַלְלֵיהֶםtheir doingsיֹאכֵלוּ׃they shall eat

    Say unto the righteous that it is well with them; for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

11. 11

    אוֹיwoלָרְשָׁעִיםunto the wickedכִּי־יֹאבֵדוּfor they shall perishכִּי־גְמוּלfor the reward ofיְדֵיהֶםtheir handsיִהְיֶהshall beעֲלֵיהֶם׃upon them

    Wo unto the wicked, for they shall perish; for the reward of their hands shall be upon them!

12. 12

    וְעַמִּיand my peopleנְעָרִיםchildrenנֹגְשֵׂיהֶםare their oppressorsוְנָשִׁיםand womenמָשְׁלוּruleבוֹover themעַמִּיO my peopleמְאַשְּׁרֶיךָyour leadersמַתְעִיםcause you to errוְדֶרֶךְand the way ofאֹרְחֹתֶיךָyour pathsבִּלֵּעוּ׃destroy

    And my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they who lead thee cause thee to err and destroy the way of thy paths.

13. 13

    נִצָּבstands upלָרִיבto pleadיְהֹוָהthe LORDוְעֹמֵדand standsלָדִיןto judgeעַמִּים׃the people

    The Lord standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people.

14. 14

    יְהוָהthe Lordבְּמִשְׁפָּטin judgmentיָבוֹאwill enterעִם־זִקְנֵיwith the ancients ofעַמּוֹhis peopleוְשָׂרָיוand the princes thereofוְאַתֶּםfor youבִּעַרְתֶּםhave eaten upהַכֶּרֶםthe vineyardגְּזֵלַתand the spoil ofהֶעָנִיthe poorבְּבָתֵּיכֶם׃in your houses

    The Lord will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people and the princes thereof; for ye have eaten up the vineyard and the spoil of the poor in your houses.

15. 15

    מַה־לָּכֶםwhat mean youתְּדַכְּאוּyou beat to piecesעַמִּיmy peopleוּפְנֵיand the faces ofעֲנִיִּיםthe poorתִּטְחָנוּand grindנְאֻםsaithאֲדֹנָיthe LordיְהוִהGodצְבָאוֹת׃of Hosts

    What mean ye? Ye beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor, saith the Lord God of Hosts.

16. 16

    וְעוֹדmoreoverיְהוָהthe Lordאֹמֵרsaithיַעַןbecauseכִּיthatגָבְהוּare haughtyבְּנוֹת־צִיּוֹןthe daughters of Zionוַתֵּלַכְנָהand walkנְטוּיוֹתwith stretched outגָּרוֹןnecksוּמְשַׂקְּרוֹתand wantonעֵינָיִםeyesהָלוֹךְwalkingוְטָפֹףand mincingתֵּלַכְנָהas they goוּבְרַגְלֵיהֶםand with their feetתְּעַכַּסְנָה׃making a tinkling

    Moreover, the Lord saith: Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched-forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, and making a tinkling with their feet—

17. 17

    וְשִׂפַּחtherefore will smite with a scabאֲדֹנָיLordקׇדְקֹדthe crown of the head ofבְּנוֹתthe daughters ofצִיּוֹןZionוַיהֹוָהand the LORDפׇּתְהֵןtheir secret partsיְעָרֶה׃will lay bare

    Therefore the Lord will smite with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, and the Lord will discover their secret parts.

18. 18

    בַּיּוֹםin the dayהַהוּאthatיָסִירwill take awayאֲדֹנָיthe Lordאֵת־תִּפְאֶרֶתthe bravery ofהָעֲכָסִיםthe tinkling ornamentsוְהַשְּׁבִיסִיםand caulsוְהַשַּׂהֲרֹנִים׃and round tires like the moon

    In that day the Lord will take away the bravery of their tinkling ornaments, and cauls, and round tires like the moon;

19. 19

    הַנְּטִפוֹתthe eardropsוְהַשֵּׁירוֹתand the braceletsוְהָרְעָלוֹת׃and the scarves

    The chains and the bracelets, and the mufflers;

20. 20

    הַפְּאֵרִיםthe bonnetsוְהַצְּעָדוֹתand the ornaments of the legsוְהַקִּשֻּׁרִיםand the headbandsוּבָתֵּי־הַנֶּפֶשׁand the tabletsוְהַלְּחָשִׁים׃and the ear-rings

    The bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, and the headbands, and the tablets, and the ear-rings;

21. 21

    הַטַּבָּעוֹתthe ringsוְנִזְמֵיand the jewels ofהָאָף׃the nose

    The rings, and nose jewels;

22. 22

    הַמַּחֲלָצוֹתthe changeable suits of apparelוְהַמַּעֲטָפוֹתand the mantlesוְהַמִּטְפָּחוֹתand the wimplesוְהָחֲרִיטִים׃and the crisping-pins

    The changeable suits of apparel, and the mantles, and the wimples, and the crisping-pins;

23. 23

    וְהַגִּלְיֹנִיםthe glassesוְהַסְּדִינִיםand the fine linenוְהַצְּנִיפוֹתand hoodsוְהָרְדִידִים׃and the veils

    The glasses, and the fine linen, and hoods, and the veils.

24. 24

    וְהָיָהand it shall come to passתַחַתinstead ofבֹּשֶׂםsweet smellמַקstinkיִהְיֶהshall beוְתַחַתand instead ofחֲגוֹרָהa girdleנִקְפָּהa rentוְתַחַתand instead ofמַעֲשֶׂהwell setמִקְשֶׁהhairקׇרְחָהbaldnessוְתַחַתand instead ofפְּתִיגִילa stomacherמַחֲגֹרֶתa girding ofשָׂקsackclothכִּיinstead ofתַחַתinstead ofיֹפִי׃beauty

    And it shall come to pass, instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle, a rent; and instead of well set hair, baldness; and instead of a stomacher, a girding of sackcloth; burning instead of beauty.

25. 25

    מְתַיִךְyour menבַּחֶרֶבby the swordיִפֹּלוּshall fallוּגְבוּרָתֵךְand your mightyבַּמִּלְחָמָה׃in the war

    Thy men shall fall by the sword and thy mighty in the war.

26. 26

    וְאָנוּand shall lamentוְאָבְלוּand mournפְּתָחֶיהָher gatesוְנִקָּתָהand she shall be desolateלָאָרֶץupon the groundתֵּשֵׁב׃and shall sit

    And her gates shall lament and mourn; and she shall be desolate, and shall sit upon the ground.
