   And now it came to pass that after I, Nephi, had made an end of speaking to my brethren, behold they said unto me: Thou hast declared unto us hard things, more than we are able to bear.

   And it came to pass that I said unto them that I knew that I had spoken hard things against the wicked, according to the truth; and the righteous have I justified, and testified that they should be lifted up at the last day; wherefore, the guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center.

   And now my brethren, if ye were righteous and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God, then ye would not murmur because of the truth, and say: Thou speakest hard things against us.

   וָאַזְהִירva/az/HIRand I exhortedאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiאֶת־אַחַיet-a/CHAYmy brethrenבְּכׇל־חֲרִיצוּתbe/KHOL-cha/ri/TSUTwith all diligenceלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתet-mits/VOTthe commandmentsיְהוָה׃Adonaiof Adonai

   And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did exhort my brethren, with all diligence, to keep the commandments of the Lord.

   וַיִּכָּנְעוּvay/yik/ka/ne/Uand humbled themselvesלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatהָיְתָה־לִיha/ye/TA-liI hadשִׂמְחָהsim/CHAjoyוְתִקְוָהve/tik/VAand hopesגְדוֹלָהge/do/LAgreatבָםvamof themלָלֶכֶתla/LE/khetthat they would walkבְּאׇרְחוֹתbe/or/CHOTin the pathsצֶדֶק׃TSE/dekof righteousness

   And it came to pass that they did humble themselves before the Lord; insomuch that I had joy and great hopes of them, that they would walk in the paths of righteousness.

   וְעַתָּהve/at/TAnowכׇּל־הַדְּבָרִיםkol-had/de/va/RIMall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseנֶאֶמְרוּne/em/RUwere saidוְנַעֲשׂוּve/na/a/SUand doneבְּשֶׁבֶתbe/SHE/vetas dweltאָבִיa/VImy fatherבָּאֹהֶלba/O/helin a tentבָּעֵמֶקba/E/mekin the valleyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichקָרָאka/RAhe calledלוֹloitלְמוּאֵל׃Le/mu/ELLemuel

   Now, all these things were said and done as my father dwelt in a tent in the valley which he called Lemuel.

   And it came to pass that I, Nephi, took one of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also, my brethren took of the daughters of Ishmael to wife; and also Zoram took the eldest daughter of Ishmael to wife.

   וְכֵןve/KHENand thusמִלֵּאmil/LEfulfilledאָבִיa/VImy fatherאֶת־כׇּל־מִצְוֹתet-kol-mits/VOTall the commandmentsיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתְּנוּnit/te/NUwere givenלוֹlohimוְגַםve/GAMand alsoבֵּרַךְbe/RAKHblessedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֹתִיo/TImeאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiמְאֹד׃me/ODexceedingly

   And thus my father had fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord which had been given unto him. And also, I, Nephi, had been blessed of the Lord exceedingly.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand spokeקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiאֶל־אָבִיel-a/VIunto my fatherבַּלַּיְלָהbal/LAY/laby nightוַיְצַוֵּהוּvay/tsav/VE/huand commanded himלִנְסֹעַlin/SO/athat he should take his journeyמִמׇּחֳרָתmim/mo/cho/RATon the morrowלַמִּדְבָּר׃lam/mid/BARinto the wilderness

   And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord spake unto my father by night, and commanded him that on the morrow he should take his journey into the wilderness.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERthat asקָםkamaroseאָבִיa/VImy fatherבַּבֹּקֶרbab/BO/kerin the morningוַיֵּצֵאvay/ye/TSEand went forthאֶל־פֶּתַחel-PE/tachto the doorהָאֹהֶלha/O/helof the tentתָּמֹהַּta/MO/ahgreatתָּמַהּta/MAto his astonishmentוַיַּרְאvay/YARhe beheldעַל־הָאָרֶץal-ha/A/retsupon the groundכַּדּוּרkad/DURa ballעָגֹלa/GOLroundמַעֲשֵׂהma/a/SEof workmanshipחֹשֵׁבcho/SHEVcuriousוְהוּאve/HUand it wasנְחֹשֶׁתne/CHO/shetof brassטוֹבָהto/VAfineוּבְתוֹךְu/ve/TOKHand withinהַכַּדּוּרhak/kad/DURthe ballשְׁנֵיshe/NEwere twoמְחוֹגִיםme/cho/GIMspindlesוְיוֹרֶהve/yo/REand pointedהָאֶחָדha/e/CHADthe oneלָנוּLA/nuunto usהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhthe wayאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhitherנֵלֵךְne/LEKHwe should goבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARinto the wilderness

    And it came to pass that as my father arose in the morning, and went forth to the tent door, to his great astonishment he beheld upon the ground a round ball of curious workmanship; and it was of fine brass. And within the ball were two spindles; and the one pointed the way whither we should go into the wilderness.

    וַנֶּאֱסֹףvan/ne/e/SOFand we gathered togetherאֶת־כׇּל־אֲשֶׁרet-kol-a/SHERwhatsoever thingsנִשָּׂאnis/SAwe should carryלַמִּדְבָּרlam/mid/BARinto the wildernessוְאֵתve/ETandכׇּל־יֶתֶרkol-YE/terall the remainderצֵידָתֵנוּtse/da/te/NUof our provisionsאֲשֶׁר־נָתַןa/SHER-na/TANwhich gaveלָנוּLA/nuusיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַנִּקַּחvan/nik/KACHand we tookזֶרַעZE/raseedמִכׇּל־מִיןmik/KOL-minof every kindלָשֵׂאתla/SETthat we might carryלַמִּדְבָּר׃lam/mid/BARinto the wilderness

    And it came to pass that we did gather together whatsoever things we should carry into the wilderness, and all the remainder of our provisions which the Lord had given unto us; and we did take seed of every kind that we might carry into the wilderness.

12. 12

    וַנִּקַּחvan/nik/KACHand we tookאֶת־אׇהֳלֵינוּet-o/ho/le/NUour tentsוַנֵּצֵאvan/ne/TSEand departedלַמִּדְבָּרlam/mid/BARinto the wildernessמֵעֵבֶרme/E/veracrossלְנַחַלle/NA/chalthe riverלָמָן׃LA/manLaman

    And it came to pass that we did take our tents and depart into the wilderness, across the river Laman.

13. 13

    וַנִּסַּעvan/nis/SAand we traveledדֶּרֶךְDE/rekhfor the spaceאַרְבָּעָהar/ba/Aof fourיָמִיםya/MIMdaysכִּמְעַטkim/ATnearlyדָּרוֹמָהda/ro/MAa south-וּמִזְרָחָהu/miz/RA/chasoutheast directionוַנִּטַּעvan/nit/TAand we pitchedאֶת־אׇהֳלֵינוּet-o/ho/le/NUour tentsשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainוַנִּקְרָאvan/nik/RAand we calledשֵׁםshemthe nameהַמָּקוֹםham/ma/KOMof the placeשָׁזֵר׃SHA/zerShazer

    And it came to pass that we traveled for the space of four days, nearly a south-southeast direction, and we did pitch our tents again; and we did call the name of the place Shazer.

    וַנִּקַּחvan/nik/KACHand we tookאֶת־קַשְׁתוֹתֵינוּet-kash/to/te/NUour bowsוְחִצֵּינוּve/chits/tse/NUand our arrowsוַנֵּצֵאvan/ne/TSEand went forthלַמִּדְבָּרlam/mid/BARinto the wildernessלָצוּדla/TSUDto slayצַיִדTSA/yidfoodלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּle/mish/pe/cho/te/NUfor our familiesוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterצוּדֵנוּtsu/de/NUwe slewצַיִדTSA/yidfoodלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּle/mish/pe/cho/te/NUfor our familiesוַנָּשָׁבvan/NA/shavwe returned againאֶל־מִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּel-mish/pe/cho/te/NUto our familiesבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessאֶל־מְקוֹםel-me/KOMto the placeשָׁזֵרSHA/zerof Shazerוַנֵּצֵאvan/ne/TSEand we went forthשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessהֹלְכִיםhol/KHIMfollowingבַּדֶּרֶךְbad/DE/rekhthe directionהַהִיאha/HIsameוַנֵּלֶךְvan/NE/lekhkeepingבַּמְּקוֹמוֹתbam/me/ko/MOTin the partsהַטּוֹבִיםhat/to/VIMthe most fertileאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhich wereבַּגְּבוּלוֹתbag/ge/vu/LOTin the bordersהַקְּרוֹבִיםhak/ke/ro/VIMnearלְיַם־סוּף׃le/YAM-sufthe Red Sea

    And it came to pass that we did take our bows and our arrows, and go forth into the wilderness to slay food for our families; and after we had slain food for our families we did return again to our families in the wilderness, to the place of Shazer. And we did go forth again in the wilderness, following the same direction, keeping in the most fertile parts of the wilderness, which were in the borders near the Red Sea.

    וַנִּסַּעvan/nis/SAand we traveledיָמִיםya/MIMfor the space of daysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyצָדִיםtsa/DIMslayingצַיִדTSA/yidfoodבַּדֶּרֶךְbad/DE/rekhby the wayבְּקַשְׁתוֹתֵינוּbe/kash/to/te/NUwith our bowsוּבְחִצֵּינוּu/ve/chits/tse/NUand our arrowsוּבַאֲבָנֵינוּu/va/a/va/ne/NUand our stonesוּבִקְלָעֵינוּ׃u/vik/la/e/NUand our slings

    And it came to pass that we did travel for the space of many days, slaying food by the way, with our bows and our arrows and our stones and our slings.

16. 16

    וַנֵּלֶךְvan/NE/lekhand we followedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterמוֹרֵהmo/REthe directionsהַכַּדּוּרhak/kad/DURof the ballאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהוֹלִיכָנוּho/li/kha/NUled usבַּמְּקוֹמוֹתbam/me/ko/MOTin the partsהַטּוֹבִיםhat/to/VIMthe more fertileבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARof the wilderness

    And we did follow the directions of the ball, which led us in the more fertile parts of the wilderness.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterנׇסְעֵנוּnos/e/NUwe traveledיָמִיםya/MIMfor the space of daysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַנִּטַּעvan/nit/TAwe pitchedאֶת־אׇהֳלֵינוּet-o/ho/le/NUour tentsיָמִיםya/MIMfor the space of a timeלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנָנוּחַna/NU/achwe might restשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainוְנִמְצָאve/nim/TSAand obtainצַיִדTSA/yidfoodלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּ׃le/mish/pe/cho/te/NUfor our families

    And after we had traveled for the space of many days, we did pitch our tents for the space of a time, that we might again rest ourselves and obtain food for our families.

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבְּצֵאתִיbe/tse/TIas I went forthאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiלָצוּדla/TSUDto slayצַיִדTSA/yidfoodוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEbeholdשָׁבַרְתִּיsha/VAR/tiI brokeאֶת־קַשְׁתִּיet-kash/TImy bowהָעֲשׂוּיָהha/a/su/YAwhich was madeמִפְּלָדוֹתmip/pe/la/DOTof steelטוֹבָהto/VAfineוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterשִׁבְרִיshiv/RII brokeאֶת־קַשְׁתִּיet-kash/TImy bowוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEbeholdקָצְפוּka/tse/FUwere angryאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenעָלַיa/LAYwith meמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofאׇבְדַןov/DANthe lossקַשְׁתִּיkash/TIof my bowכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notהִשַּׂגְנוּhis/sag/NUwe obtainedצָיִד׃TSA/yidfood

    And it came to pass that as I, Nephi, went forth to slay food, behold, I did break my bow, which was made of fine steel; and after I did break my bow, behold, my brethren were angry with me because of the loss of my bow, for we did obtain no food.

    וַנָּשָׁבvan/NA/shavand we returnedבְּלִיbe/LIwithoutצַיִדTSA/yidfoodאֶל־מִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּel-mish/pe/cho/te/NUto our familiesוּבִהְיוֹתָםu/vih/yo/TAMand they beingיְגֵעִיםye/ge/IMfatiguedמְאֹדme/ODmuchמִמַּסָּעָםmim/mas/sa/AMbecause of their journeyingסָבֹלsa/VOLmuchסָבְלוּsa/ve/LUthey sufferedמֵחֹסֶרme/CHO/serfor the wantצָיִד׃TSA/yidof food

    And it came to pass that we did return without food to our families, and being much fatigued, because of their journeying, they did suffer much for the want of food.

    And it came to pass that Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael did begin to murmur exceedingly, because of their sufferings and afflictions in the wilderness; and also my father began to murmur against the Lord his God; yea, and they were all exceedingly sorrowful, even that they did murmur against the Lord.

    וָאֵעָצֵבva/e/a/TSEVand I was afflictedאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiעִם־אַחַיim-a/CHAYwith my brethrenמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofאׇבְדַןov/DANthe lossקַשְׁתִּיkash/TIof my bowוְאָבַדve/a/VADand lostכֹּחַKO/achthe springsקַשְׁתוֹתֵיהֶםkash/to/te/HEMof their bowsוַיָּחֶלvay/YA/cheland it began to beלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beקָשֶׁהka/SHEdifficultמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyאַףafyeaעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatלֹאlonotיָכֹלְנוּya/khol/NUwe couldלְהַשִּׂיגle/has/SIGto obtainצָיִד׃TSA/yidfood

    Now it came to pass that I, Nephi, having been afflicted with my brethren because of the loss of my bow, and their bows having lost their springs, it began to be exceedingly difficult, yea, insomuch that we could obtain no food.

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did speak much unto my brethren, because they had hardened their hearts again, even unto complaining against the Lord their God.

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow; wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. And I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food?

    And it came to pass that he did inquire of the Lord, for they had humbled themselves because of my words; for I did say many things unto them in the energy of my soul.

    וַיָּבֹאvay/ya/VOand cameקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiאֶל־אָבִיel-a/VIunto my fatherוַיִּוָּסֵרvay/yiv/va/SERand he was chastenedבֶּאֱמֶתbe/e/METtrulyעַל־תְּלוּנָתוֹal-te/lu/na/TObecause of his murmuringעַל־יְהוָהal-Adonaiagainst Adonaiעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatהוּרַדhu/RADhe was brought downלְעִמְקֵיle/im/KEinto the depthsיָגוֹן׃ya/GONof sorrow

    And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came unto my father; and he was truly chastened because of his murmuring against the Lord, insomuch that he was brought down into the depths of sorrow.

26. 26

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiאֵלָיוe/LAYVunto himהַבֵּטhab/BETlookבַּכַּדּוּרbak/kad/DURupon the ballוּרְאֵהu/re/Eand beholdאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהַכְּתוּבִים׃hak/ke/tu/VIMwhich are written

    And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord said unto him: Look upon the ball, and behold the things which are written.

27. 27

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedכִּרְאוֹתkir/OTthat when sawאָבִיa/VImy fatherאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe thingsהַכְּתוּבִיםhak/ke/tu/VIMwhich were writtenעַל־הַכַּדּוּרal-hak/kad/DURupon the ballוַיִּירָאvay/yi/RAhe fearedוְרָעֹדve/ra/ODexceedinglyרָעַדRA/adtrembledוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenוּבְנֵיu/ve/NEand the sonsיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELof Ishmaelוְנָשֵׁינוּ׃ve/na/SHE/nuand our wives

    And it came to pass that when my father beheld the things which were written upon the ball, he did fear and tremble exceedingly, and also my brethren and the sons of Ishmael and our wives.

28. 28

    וָאֵרֶאva/E/reand I beheldאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiאֶת־הַמְּחוֹגִיםet-ham/me/cho/GIMthe pointersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichבַּכַּדּוּרbak/kad/DURwere in the ballכִּיkithatפָּעֲלוּpa/a/LUthey wroughtלְפִיle/FIaccording toהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAthe faithוְהַחֲרִיצוּתve/ha/cha/ri/TSUTand diligenceוְהַקְשֵׁבve/hak/SHEVand heedאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשַׂמְנוּSAM/nuwe gaveלָהֶם׃la/HEMthem

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, beheld the pointers which were in the ball, that they did work according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.

29. 29

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoהָיָהha/YAthere wasעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themכְּתָבke/TAVa writingחָדָשׁcha/DASHnewבָּרוּרba/RURwhich was plainלִקְרֹאlik/ROto be readוַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand it gaveלָנוּLA/nuusהֲבָנָהha/va/NAunderstandingבְּדַרְכֵיbe/dar/KHEconcerning the waysיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiוַיִּכָּתֵבvay/yik/ka/TEVand it was writtenוַיֵּהָפֵךְvay/ye/ha/FEKHand it was changedמֵעֵתme/ETfrom timeלְעֵתle/ETto timeלְפִיle/FIaccording toהָאֱמוּנָהha/e/mu/NAthe faithוְהַחֲרִיצוּתve/ha/cha/ri/TSUTand diligenceאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנָתַנּוּna/TAN/nuwe gaveלוֹloitוְכֵןve/KHENand thusנִרְאֶהnir/Ewe seeכִּיkithatבִּדְבָרִיםbid/va/RIMby meansקְטַנִּיםke/tan/NIMsmallיוּכַלyu/KHALcanיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTbring aboutדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsגְּדוֹלִים׃ge/do/LIMgreat

    And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things.

30. 30

    וָאַעַלva/A/aland I went upאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiאֶל־רֹאשׁel-roshinto the topהָהָרha/HARof the mountainלְפִיle/FIaccording toהַמּוֹרֶהham/mo/REthe directionsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichנִתַּןnit/TANwere givenעַל־הַכַּדּוּר׃al-hak/kad/DURupon the ball

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did go forth up into the top of the mountain, according to the directions which were given upon the ball.

31. 31

    וָאָצוּדva/a/TSUDand I slewחַיּוֹתchay/YOTbeastsהַשָּׂדֶהhas/sa/DEwildעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatהִשַּׂגְתִּיhis/sag/TII obtainedצַיִדTSA/yidfoodלְמִשְׁפְּחוֹתֵינוּ׃le/mish/pe/cho/te/NUfor our families

    And it came to pass that I did slay wild beasts, insomuch that I did obtain food for our families.

32. 32

    וָאָשׁוּבva/a/SHUVand I returnedאֶל־אׇהֳלֵינוּel-o/ho/le/NUto our tentsנֹשֵׂאno/SEbearingאֶת־הַחַיּוֹתet-ha/chay/YOTthe beastsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצַדְתִּיtsad/TII slewוְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowכִּרְאוֹתָםkir/o/TAMwhen they beheldכִּיkithatהִשַּׂגְתִּיhis/sag/TII obtainedצַיִדTSA/yidfoodמַה־גָּדְלָהma-ga/de/LAhow great wasשִׂמְחָתָםsim/cha/TAMtheir joyוַיִּכָּנְעוּvay/yik/ka/ne/Uand humbled themselvesלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוַיּוֹדוּvay/yo/DUand gave thanksלוֹ׃lounto Him

    And it came to pass that I did return to our tents, bearing the beasts which I had slain; and now when they beheld that I had obtained food, how great was their joy! And it came to pass that they did humble themselves before the Lord, and did give thanks unto him.

33. 33

    וַנִּסַּעvan/nis/SAand we took our journeyשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainנֹסְעִיםnos/IMjourneyingכִּמְעַטkim/ATnearlyבַּדֶּרֶךְbad/DE/rekhin the courseהַהִיאha/HIsameכַּתְּחִלָּהkat/te/chil/LAas in the beginningוַיְהִיvay/HIandאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterנׇסְעֵנוּnos/e/NUwe traveledיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyוַנִּטַּעvan/nit/TAwe pitchedאֶת־אׇהֳלֵינוּet-o/ho/le/NUour tentsשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatנֵשֵׁבne/SHEVwe might tarryיָמִים׃ya/MIMdays

    And it came to pass that we did again take our journey, traveling nearly the same course as in the beginning; and after we had traveled for the space of many days we did pitch our tents again, that we might tarry for the space of a time.

34. 34

    וַיָּמׇתvay/YA/motand diedיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELIshmaelוַיִּקָּבֵרvay/yik/ka/VERand was buriedבַּמָּקוֹםbam/ma/KOMin the placeהַנִּקְרָאhan/nik/RAwhich was calledנָהוֹם׃NA/homNahom

    And it came to pass that Ishmael died, and was buried in the place which was called Nahom.

35. 35

    וַיְהִיvay/HIandכִּיkithatהִתְאַבֵּלhit/ab/BELexceedinglyהִתְאַבַּלְנָהhit/ab/bal/NAmournedבְנוֹתve/NOTthe daughtersיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELof Ishmaelעַל־אׇבְדַןal-ov/DANbecause of the lossאֲבִיהֶןa/vi/HENof their fatherוּמִפְּנֵיu/mip/pe/NEand becauseעׇנְיָןon/YANof their afflictionsבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַתִּתְלוֹנֵנָּהvat/tit/lo/nen/NAand they murmuredעַל־אָבִיal-a/VIagainst my fatherכִּיkibecauseהוֹצִיאָןho/tsi/ANhe brought themמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsout of the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalemלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָבִינוּa/VI/nuour fatherמֵתmetis deadוְאַףve/AFyea, andנַדְנוּnad/NUwe wanderedהַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuchבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוְסָבַלְנוּve/sa/val/NUand we sufferedהַרְבֵּהhar/BEmuchעֳנִיo/NIafflictionרָעָבra/AVhungerוְצָמָאve/tsa/MAthirstוַעֲיֵפוּתva/a/ye/FUTand fatigueוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterכׇל־הַסֵּבֶלkhol-has/SE/velall the sufferingsהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisנֹאבַדno/VADwe must perishבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessבָּרָעָב׃ba/ra/AVwith hunger

    And it came to pass that the daughters of Ishmael did mourn exceedingly, because of the loss of their father, and because of their afflictions in the wilderness; and they did murmur against my father, because he had brought them out of the land of Jerusalem, saying: Our father is dead; yea, and we have wandered much in the wilderness, and we have suffered much affliction, hunger, thirst, and fatigue; and after all these sufferings we must perish in the wilderness with hunger.

36. 36

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusהִתְלוֹנְנוּhit/lon/NUthey murmuredעַל־אָבִיal-a/VIagainst my fatherוְגַםve/GAMand alsoעָלַיa/LAYagainst meוַתַּחְפֹּצְנָהvat/tach/pots/NAand they were desirousלָשׁוּבla/SHUVto return againלִירוּשָׁלַיִם׃lI/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalem

    And thus they did murmur against my father, and also against me; and they were desirous to return again to Jerusalem.

37. 37

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidלָמָןLA/manLamanאֶל־לְמוּאֵלel-Le/mu/ELunto Lemuelוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶל־בְּנֵיel-be/NEunto the sonsיִשְׁמָעֵאלYish/ma/ELof Ishmaelהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdלְכוּle/KHUcomeוְנַהֲרֹגve/na/ha/ROGand let us slayאֶת־אָבִינוּet-a/VI/nuour fatherוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־אָחִינוּet-a/CHI/nuour brotherנֶפִיNE/fiNephiוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand we areאֶחָיוe/CHAYVhis brethrenהַגְּדוֹלִיםhag/ge/do/LIMthe elderאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoלָקַחla/KACHtookלוֹloupon himselfלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמוֹשֵׁלmo/SHELour rulerוּמוֹרֶהu/mo/REand our teacherעָלֵינוּ׃a/LE/nuover us

    And Laman said unto Lemuel and also unto the sons of Ishmael: Behold, let us slay our father, and also our brother Nephi, who has taken it upon him to be our ruler and our teacher, who are his elder brethren.

38. 38

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאֹמֵרo/MERhe saithכִּיkithatדִּבֶּרdib/BERspokeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאִתּוֹit/TOwith himוְגַםve/GAMand alsoכִּיkithatשֵׁרְתוּהוּsher/tu/HUministered unto himמַלְאָכִיםmal/a/KHIMangelsאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdיָדַעְנוּya/DA/nuwe knowכִי־יְכַזֵּבkhi-ye/khaz/ZEVthat he liesלָנוּLA/nuunto usוּמַגִּידu/mag/GIDand he tellsלָנוּLA/nuusהַדְּבָרִיםhad/de/va/RIMthe thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוְעוֹשֶׂהve/o/SEand he worksדְבָרִיםde/va/RIMthingsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyבְּעׇרְמָתוֹbe/or/ma/TOby his cunning artsלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיְרַמֶּהye/ram/MEhe may deceiveאֶת־עֵינֵינוּet-e/NE/nuour eyesלֵאמֹרle/MORthinkingאוּלַיu/LAYperhapsיוּכַלyu/KHALhe mayלְהוֹלִיכֵנוּle/ho/li/khe/NUlead us awayאֶל־מִדְבָּרel-mid/BARinto a wildernessזָרzarstrangeוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterהוֹלִיכוֹho/li/KHOhe ledאוֹתָנוּo/TA/nuus awayחָשַׁבcha/SHAVhe thoughtלִהְיוֹתlih/YOTto beמֶלֶךְME/lekha kingוּמוֹשֵׁלu/mo/SHELand a rulerעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuover usלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEhe may doבָנוּVA/nuwith usכְּנַפְשׁוֹke/naf/SHOaccording to his willוְחֶפְצוֹve/chef/TSOand pleasureוְכֹהve/KHOand after this mannerהֵסִיתhe/SITstirred upאָחִיa/CHImy brotherלָמָןLA/manLamanאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsלְכַעַס׃le/KHA/asto anger

    Now, he says that the Lord has talked with him, and also that angels have ministered unto him. But behold, we know that he lies unto us; and he tells us these things, and he worketh many things by his cunning arts, that he may deceive our eyes, thinking, perhaps, that he may lead us away into some strange wilderness; and after he has led us away, he has thought to make himself a king and a ruler over us, that he may do with us according to his will and pleasure. And after this manner did my brother Laman stir up their hearts to anger.

39. 39

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happened thatיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאִתָּנוּit/TA/nuwas with usוְאַףve/AFyea, evenבָּאbacameקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMwordsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyהוֹכֵחַho/KHE/achexceedinglyהוֹכִיחָםho/khi/CHAMchastened themוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterהוֹכִיחָםho/khi/CHAMchastened themקוֹל־יְהוָהkol-Adonaithe voice of Adonaiוַיָּסִירוּvay/ya/SI/ruthey turned awayאֶת־כַּעְסָםet-ka/SAMtheir angerוַיִּתְנַחֲמוּvay/yit/na/cha/MUand repentedעַל־חַטֹּאתָםal-chat/to/TAMof their sinsעַד־כִּיad-kiinsomuch thatבֵּרְכָנוּber/kha/NUblessed usיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainבְּצַיִדbe/TSA/yidwith foodוְלֹאve/LOand notנִסְפֶּה׃nis/PEwe perished

    And it came to pass that the Lord was with us, yea, even the voice of the Lord came and did speak many words unto them, and did chasten them exceedingly; and after they were chastened by the voice of the Lord they did turn away their anger, and did repent of their sins, insomuch that the Lord did bless us again with food, that we did not perish.
