   And it came to pass that we did again take our journey in the wilderness; and we did travel nearly eastward from that time forth. And we did travel and wade through much affliction in the wilderness; and our women did bear children in the wilderness.

   And so great were the blessings of the Lord upon us, that while we did live upon raw meat in the wilderness, our women did give plenty of suck for their children, and were strong, yea, even like unto the men; and they began to bear their journeyings without murmurings.

   And thus we see that the commandments of God must be fulfilled. And if it so be that the children of men keep the commandments of God he doth nourish them, and strengthen them, and provide means whereby they can accomplish the thing which he has commanded them; wherefore, he did provide means for us while we did sojourn in the wilderness.

   And we did sojourn for the space of many years, yea, even eight years in the wilderness.

   And we did come to the land which we called Bountiful, because of its much fruit and also wild honey; and all these things were prepared of the Lord that we might not perish. And we beheld the sea, which we called Irreantum, which, being interpreted, is many waters.

   And it came to pass that we did pitch our tents by the seashore; and notwithstanding we had suffered many afflictions and much difficulty, yea, even so much that we cannot write them all, we were exceedingly rejoiced when we came to the seashore; and we called the place Bountiful, because of its much fruit.

   And it came to pass that after I, Nephi, had been in the land of Bountiful for the space of many days, the voice of the Lord came unto me, saying: Arise, and get thee into the mountain. And it came to pass that I arose and went up into the mountain, and cried unto the Lord.

   וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלַיe/LAYunto meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingתִּבְנֶהtiv/NEyou shall constructאֳנִיָּהo/niy/YAa shipכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasאַרְאֶךָּar/EK/kaI shall show youלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatאֶשָּׂאes/SAI may carryאֶת־עַמְּךָet-am/me/KHAyour peopleמֵעֵבֶרme/E/veracrossלַמַּיִםlam/MA/yimthe watersהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

   And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto me, saying: Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall show thee, that I may carry thy people across these waters.

   וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidיְהוָהAdonaiO AdonaiאָנָהA/nawhitherאֵלֵךְe/LEKHshall I goלִמְצֹאlim/TSOto findעַפְרֹתaf/ROToreלְהַתִּיךְle/hat/TIKHto moltenלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto makeכֵּלִיםke/LIMtoolsלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildהׇאֳנִיָּהho/o/niy/YAthe shipכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasהֶרְאֵיתָנִי׃her/e/ta/NIyou showed me

   And I said: Lord, whither shall I go that I may find ore to molten, that I may make tools to construct the ship after the manner which thou hast shown unto me?

    וַיַּגֵּדvay/yag/GEDand toldלִיlimeיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאָנָהA/nawhitherאֵלֵךְe/LEKHI should goלִמְצֹאlim/TSOto findעַפְרֹתaf/ROToreלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto makeכֵּלִים׃ke/LIMtools

    And it came to pass that the Lord told me whither I should go to find ore, that I might make tools.

    וָאַעַשׂva/A/asand I madeאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiמַפּוּחַmap/PU/acha bellowsלְהַבְעִירle/hav/IRto blowהָאֵשׁha/ESHthe fireמֵעוֹרוֹתme/o/ROTof the skinsחַיּוֹתchay/YOTof beastsוְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterעֲשׂוֹתִיa/so/TImy makingאֶת־הַמַּפּוּחַet-ham/map/PU/achthe bellowsלְהַבְעִירle/hav/IRto blowבּוֹbowith itאֶת־הָאֵשׁet-ha/ESHthe fireוָאַכֶּהva/ak/KEand I smoteאֶבֶןE/venstoneבְּאֶבֶןbe/E/venwith stoneלְהַצִּיתle/hats/TSITto kindleאֵשׁ׃eshfire

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make a bellows wherewith to blow the fire, of the skins of beasts; and after I had made a bellows, that I might have wherewith to blow the fire, I did smite two stones together that I might make fire.

    כִּיkiforעַד־הֵנָּהad-HEN/nahithertoלֹאlonotהִנִּיחַhin/NI/achsufferedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto makeאֵשׁeshfireרַבָּהrab/BAmuchבְּמַסָּעֵינוּbe/mas/sa/e/NUin our journeyingsבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessכִּיkiforאָמַרa/MARHe saidאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEI will makeאֶת־מַאֲכַלְכֶםet-ma/a/khal/KHEMyour foodלְמָתוֹקle/ma/TOKsweetוְלֹאve/LOand notתְבַשְּׁלוּהוּ׃te/vash/she/lu/HUshall you cook it

    For the Lord had not hitherto suffered that we should make much fire, as we journeyed in the wilderness; for he said: I will make thy food become sweet, that ye cook it not;

    וְגַםve/GAMand alsoלְאוֹרle/ORyour lightאֶהְיֶהeh/YEI will beלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוְהַדֶּרֶךְve/had/DE/rekhand the wayאָכִיןa/KHINI will prepareלִפְנֵיכֶםlif/ne/KHEMbefore youאִם־תִּשְׁמְרוּim-tish/me/RUif it so be that you shall keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתָיet-mits/vo/TAYmy commandmentsלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeאִם־שָׁמוֹרim-sha/MORinasmuch asתִּשְׁמְרוּtish/me/RUyou shall keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתַיet-mits/vo/TAYmy commandmentsאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retstowards the landהַנַּחֲלָהhan/na/cha/LAof promiseתּוּבְלוּtuv/LUyou shall be ledוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you shall knowכִּיkithatאֲנִיa/NIit is by meהוּאhuthatהַמּוֹבִילham/mo/VILleadsאֶתְכֶם׃et/KHEMyou

    And I will also be your light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before you, if it so be that ye shall keep my commandments; wherefore, inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall be led towards the promised land; and ye shall know that it is by me that ye are led.

    וְאַףve/AFyea, andגַּם־זֹאתgam-zotalsoאָמַרa/MARsaidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterבֹאֲכֶםvo/a/KHEMyou arrivedאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsin the landהַנַּחֲלָהhan/na/cha/LAof promiseתֵּדְעוּted/Uyou shall knowכִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIthat IיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMam Godוְכִיve/KHIand thatאֲנִיa/NIIיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiהִצַּלְתִּיhits/tsal/TIdeliveredאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמִשַּׁחַתmish/SHA/chatfrom destructionאַףafyeaכִּיkithatהוֹצֵאתִיho/TSE/tiI broughtאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsout of the landיְרוּשָׁלַיִם׃Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimof Jerusalem

    Yea, and the Lord said also that: After ye have arrived in the promised land, ye shall know that I, the Lord, am God; and that I, the Lord, did deliver you from destruction; yea, that I did bring you out of the land of Jerusalem.

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeחָתַרְתִּיcha/tar/TII stroveאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiלִשְׁמֹרlish/MORto keepאֶת־מִצְוֹתet-mits/VOTthe commandmentsיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiוָאַזְהִירva/az/HIRand I exhortedאֶת־אַחַיet-a/CHAYmy brethrenלֶאֱמוּנָהle/e/mu/NAunto faithfulnessוְלַחֲרִיצוּת׃ve/la/cha/ri/TSUTand unto diligence

    Wherefore, I, Nephi, did strive to keep the commandments of the Lord, and I did exhort my brethren to faithfulness and diligence.

    וָאַעַשׂva/A/asand I madeכֵּלִיםke/LIMtoolsמִן־הָעַפְרֹתmin-ha/af/ROTof the oreאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהִתַּכְתִּיhit/takh/TII did moltenמִן־הַסֶּלַע׃min-has/SE/laout of the rock

    And it came to pass that I did make tools of the ore which I did molten out of the rock.

    וְכִרְאוֹתve/khir/OTand when sawאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenכִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIthat Iהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHwas goingלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildאֳנִיָּהo/niy/YAa shipוַיָּחֵלּוּvay/ya/CHEL/luand they beganלְהִתְלוֹנֵןle/hit/lo/NENto murmurעָלַיa/LAYagainst meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאָחִינוּa/CHI/nuour brotherסָכָלsa/KHALis a foolכִּיkiforיַחְשֹׁבyach/SHOVhe thinksכִּיkithatיוּכַלyu/KHALhe canלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTbuildאֳנִיָּהo/niy/YAa shipוְאַףve/AFyea, andגַּםgamalsoיַחְשֹׁבyach/SHOVhe thinksכִּיkithatיוּכַלyu/KHALhe canלַעֲבֹרla/a/VORcrossאֶת־הַמַּיִםet-ham/MA/yimthe watersהָרַבִּיםha/rab/BIMthe greatהָאֵלֶּה׃ha/EL/lethese

    And when my brethren saw that I was about to build a ship, they began to murmur against me, saying: Our brother is a fool, for he thinketh that he can build a ship; yea, and he also thinketh that he can cross these great waters.

    וְכֵןve/KHENand thusנִתְאוֹנְנוּnit/on/NUcomplainedאַחַיa/CHAYmy brethrenעָלַיa/LAYagainst meוַיְמָאֲנוּvay/ma/a/NUand refusedלַעֲבֹדla/a/VODto laborכִּי־לֹאki-lofor notהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nubelieved theyכִּיkithatאוּכַלu/KHALI couldלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTbuildאֳנִיָּהo/niy/YAa shipוְגַםve/GAMand alsoלֹא־הֶאֱמִינוּlo-he/e/MI/nuthey believed notכִּיkithatהוֹרַנִיho/ra/NIinstructed meיְהוָה׃AdonaiAdonai

    And thus my brethren did complain against me, and were desirous that they might not labor, for they did not believe that I could build a ship; neither would they believe that I was instructed of the Lord.

    And now it came to pass that I, Nephi, was exceedingly sorrowful because of the hardness of their hearts; and now when they saw that I began to be sorrowful they were glad in their hearts, insomuch that they did rejoice over me, saying: We knew that ye could not construct a ship, for we knew that ye were lacking in judgment; wherefore, thou canst not accomplish so great a work.

    And thou art like unto our father, led away by the foolish imaginations of his heart; yea, he hath led us out of the land of Jerusalem, and we have wandered in the wilderness for these many years; and our women have toiled, being big with child; and they have borne children in the wilderness and suffered all things, save it were death; and it would have been better that they had died before they came out of Jerusalem than to have suffered these afflictions.

    Behold, these many years we have suffered in the wilderness, which time we might have enjoyed our possessions and the land of our inheritance; yea, and we might have been happy.

    And we know that the people who were in the land of Jerusalem were a righteous people; for they kept the statutes and judgments of the Lord, and all his commandments, according to the law of Moses; wherefore, we know that they are a righteous people; and our father hath judged them, and hath led us away because we would hearken unto his words; yea, and our brother is like unto him. And after this manner of language did my brethren murmur and complain against us.

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I spokeאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingהֲתַאֲמִינוּha/ta/a/mi/NUdo you believeכִּיkithatלוּלֵאlu/LEif notשָׁמְעוּsha/me/Uhearkenedאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersבְּנֵיbe/NEthe childrenיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelלְדִבְרֵיle/div/REunto the wordsיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiהוּצְאוּhuts/Uthey would have been led awayמִיַּדmiy/YADout of the handsהַמִּצְרִים׃ham/Mits/RIMof the Egyptians

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, spake unto them, saying: Do ye believe that our fathers, who were the children of Israel, would have been led away out of the hands of the Egyptians if they had not hearkened unto the words of the Lord?

24. 24

    אַףafyeaהֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatלוּלֵאlu/LEif notצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־מֹשֶׁהet-Mo/SHEMosesלְהוֹצִיאָםle/ho/tsi/AMthat he should lead them outמֵעַבְדוּתme/av/DUTof bondageהוּצְאוּhuts/Uthey would have been led outמֵעַבְדוּת׃me/av/DUTof bondage

    Yea, do ye suppose that they would have been led out of bondage, if the Lord had not commanded Moses that he should lead them out of bondage?

25. 25

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAnowיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatבְּעַבְדוּתbe/av/DUTin bondageהָיוּha/YUwereבְנֵיve/NEthe childrenיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you knowכִּיkithatעֲמוּסִיםa/mu/SIMladenהָיוּha/YUthey wereמַשָּׂאmas/SAwith tasksכָּבֵדka/VEDwhich were grievousמִנְּשֹׂאmin/ne/SOto be borneלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatהָיֹהha/YOit must needsהָיָהha/YAbeטוֹבtova good thingלָהֶםla/HEMfor themלְהוֹצִיאָםle/ho/tsi/AMthat they should be brought outמֵעַבְדוּת׃me/av/DUTof bondage

    Now ye know that the children of Israel were in bondage; and ye know that they were laden with tasks, which were grievous to be borne; wherefore, ye know that it must needs be a good thing for them, that they should be brought out of bondage.

26. 26

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatצֻוָּהtsuv/VAwas commandedמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesמֵאֵתme/ETbyיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doהַמַּעֲשֶׂהham/ma/a/SEthe workהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLgreatהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthatוִידַעְתֶּםvi/da/TEMand you knowכִּיkithatבִדְבָרוֹvid/va/ROby his wordנִבְקְעוּniv/ke/Uwere dividedמֵיmethe watersיַם־סוּףyam-Sufof the Red SeaהֵנָּהHEN/nahitherוָהֵנָּהva/HEN/naand thitherוַיַּעַבְרוּvay/ya/av/RUand they crossedבַיַּבָּשָׁה׃vay/yab/ba/SHAon dry ground

    Now ye know that Moses was commanded of the Lord to do that great work; and ye know that by his word the waters of the Red Sea were divided hither and thither, and they passed through on dry ground.

27. 27

    אַךְakhbutיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatטָבְעוּta/ve/Udrownedהַמִּצְרִיםham/Mits/RIMthe Egyptiansאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoהֵםhemareחֵילוֹתche/LOTthe armiesפַּרְעֹהPar/Oof Pharaohבְּיַם־סוּף׃be/YAM-sufin the Red Sea

    But ye know that the Egyptians were drowned in the Red Sea, who were the armies of Pharaoh.

28. 28

    וְגַם־יְדַעְתֶּםve/GAM-ye/da/TEMand you also knowכִּיkithatכֻלְכְּלוּkhul/ke/LUthey were fedבַּמָּןbam/MANwith mannaבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    And ye also know that they were fed with manna in the wilderness.

29. 29

    וְאַףve/AFyea, andגַּם־יְדַעְתֶּםgam-ye/da/TEMyou also knowכִּיkithatמֹשֶׁהMo/SHEMosesלְפִיle/FIaccording toכֹּחַKO/achthe powerהָאֱלֹהִיםha/e/lo/HIMof Godאֲשֶׁר־בּוֹa/SHER-bowhich was in himהִכָּהhik/KAsmoteבִּדְבָרוֹbid/va/ROby his wordאֶת־הַסֶּלַעet-has/SE/lathe rockוַיֵּצְאוּvay/yets/Uand there came forthמַיִםMA/yimwatersלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיִרְווּyir/VUthey might quenchבְּנֵיbe/NEthe childrenיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELof Israelצְמָאָם׃tse/ma/AMtheir thirst

    Yea, and ye also know that Moses, by his word according to the power of God which was in him, smote the rock, and there came forth water, that the children of Israel might quench their thirst.

30. 30

    וְאַף־גַּם־זֹאתve/AF-gam-zotand notwithstandingבְּהִנָּהֲגָםbe/hin/na/ha/GAMthey being ledוַיהוָהVe-AdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶםe/lo/he/HEMtheir GodגּוֹאֲלָםGo/a/LAMtheir Redeemerהֹלֵךְho/LEKHgoingלִפְנֵיהֶםlif/ne/HEMbefore themוּמוֹלִיכָםu/mo/li/KHAMleading themיוֹמָםyo/MAMby dayוּמֵאִירu/ME/irand giving lightלָהֶםla/HEMunto themלַיְלָהLAY/laby nightוְעֹשֶׂהve/O/seand doingלָהֶםla/HEMfor themכׇּל־הַנָּכוֹןkol-han/na/KHONall things which were expedientלָאָדָםla/a/DAMfor manלְקַבֵּלle/kab/BELto receiveהִקְשׁוּhik/SHUthey hardenedאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsוַיְעַוְּרוּvay/av/ve/RUand blindedאֶת־דַּעְתָּםet-da/TAMtheir mindsוַיְגַדְּפוּvay/gad/de/FUand reviledאֶת־מֹשֶׁהet-Mo/SHEagainst Mosesוְאֶת־אֵלve/ET-eland against Godאֱמֶתe/METtrueוָחָי׃va/CHAYand living

    And notwithstanding they being led, the Lord their God, their Redeemer, going before them, leading them by day and giving light unto them by night, and doing all things for them which were expedient for man to receive, they hardened their hearts and blinded their minds, and reviled against Moses and against the true and living God.

31. 31

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבִּדְבָרוֹbid/va/ROby His wordהִשְׁמִידָםhish/mi/DAMdestroyed themוּבִדְבָרוֹu/vid/va/ROand by His wordהִנְחָםhin/CHAMled themוּבִדְבָרוֹu/vid/va/ROand by His wordעָשָׂהa/SAdidכׇל־דָּבָרkhol-da/VARall thingsלְמַעֲנָםle/ma/a/NAMfor themוְלֹאve/LOand notנַעֲשָׂהna/a/SAwas doneדָבָרda/VARa thingכִּי־אִםki-imsaveבִּדְבָרוֹ׃bid/va/ROby His word

    And it came to pass that according to his word he did destroy them; and according to his word he did lead them; and according to his word he did do all things for them; and there was not any thing done save it were by his word.

32. 32

    וְאַחֲרֵיve/a/cha/REand afterעׇבְרָםov/RAMthey crossedאֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּןet-Hay/yar/DENthe Jordanעָשָׂהa/SAHe madeאוֹתָםo/TAMthemגִּבּוֹרִיםgib/bo/RIMmightyלְהוֹרִישׁle/ho/RISHto drive outאֶת־בְּנֵיet-be/NEthe childrenהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landאַףafyea, untoלַהֲפִיצָםla/ha/fi/TSAMto scatter themלְשַׁחֵת׃le/sha/CHETunto destruction

    And after they had crossed the river Jordan he did make them mighty unto the driving out of the children of the land, yea, unto the scattering them to destruction.

33. 33

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowבְּנֵיbe/NEthe childrenהָאָרֶץha/A/retsof the landהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיָשְׁבוּya/she/VUwereבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the landהַהַבְטָחָהha/hav/ta/CHAof promiseוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoהוֹרִישׁוּםho/ri/SHUMdrove outאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersהֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatצַדִּיקִיםtsad/di/KIMrighteousהָיוּha/YUthey wereהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youלֹא׃lonay

    And now, do ye suppose that the children of this land, who were in the land of promise, who were driven out by our fathers, do ye suppose that they were righteous? Behold, I say unto you, Nay.

34. 34

    הֲתַחְשְׁבוּha/tach/she/VUdo you supposeכִּיkithatלוּluifצַדִּיקִיםtsad/di/KIMrighteousהָיוּha/YUthey had beenאֲבוֹתֵינוּa/vo/TE/nuour fathersנִבְחָרִיםniv/cha/RIMmore choiceהָיוּha/YUwould have beenמֵהֶםme/HEMthan theyאֲנִיa/NIIאֹמֵרo/MERsayלָכֶםla/KHEMunto youלֹא׃lonay

    Do ye suppose that our fathers would have been more choice than they if they had been righteous? I say unto you, Nay.

35. 35

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdכׇל־בָּשָׂרkhol-ba/SARall fleshכְּאֶחָדke/e/CHADin oneיַחְשֹׁבyach/SHOVesteemsיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiוְהַצַּדִּיקve/hats/tsad/DIKhe that is righteousרָצוּיra/TSUYis favoredלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMof Godאַךְakhbutהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdהָעָםha/AMthe peopleהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisמָאַסma/ASrejectedכׇּל־דְּבַרkol-de/VARevery wordאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוּבָשְׁלוּu/va/she/LUand they were ripeבְּעָוֹןbe/a/VONin iniquityוּמְלוֹאu/me/LOand the fulnessחֲרוֹן־אַףcha/RON-afof the wrathאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMwas upon themוַיְקַלֵּלvay/kal/LELand cursedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themוַיְבָרֲכֶהָvay/va/ra/khe/HAand bless itלַאֲבוֹתֵינוּla/a/vo/TE/nuunto our fathersאַףafyeaקִלְּלָהּkil/le/LAhe cursed itנֶגְדָּםneg/DAMagainst themלְהַשְׁמִידָםle/hash/mi/DAMunto their destructionוּבֵרְכָהּu/ver/KHAand he blessed itלַאֲבוֹתֵינוּla/a/vo/TE/nuunto our fathersלְמֶמְשָׁלָהle/mem/sha/LAunto their obtaining powerעָלֶיהָ׃a/LE/haover it

    Behold, the Lord esteemeth all flesh in one; he that is righteous is favored of God. But behold, this people had rejected every word of God, and they were ripe in iniquity; and the fulness of the wrath of God was upon them; and the Lord did curse the land against them, and bless it unto our fathers; yea, he did curse it against them unto their destruction, and he did bless it unto our fathers unto their obtaining power over it.

36. 36

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdבָרָאva/RAcreatedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe earthלְמוֹשָׁבle/mo/SHAVthat it should be inhabitedוּבָרָאu/va/RAand createdאֶת־בָּנָיוet-ba/NAYVHis childrenלְרִשְׁתָּהּ׃le/rish/TAto possess it

    Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be inhabited; and he hath created his children that they should possess it.

37. 37

    וְיָקִיםve/ya/KIMand He raises upגּוֹיgoya nationצַדִּיקtsad/DIKrighteousוְיַשְׁמִידve/yash/MIDand destroysאֶת־גּוֹיֵיet-go/YEthe nationsרֶשַׁע׃RE/shaof wickedness

    And he raiseth up a righteous nation, and destroyeth the nations of the wicked.

38. 38

    וְיוֹלִיךְve/yo/LIKHand He leads awayאֶת־הַצַּדִּיקִיםet-hats/tsad/di/KIMthe righteousאֶל־אֲרָצוֹתel-a/ra/TSOTinto landsיְקָרוֹתye/ka/ROTpreciousוְאֶת־הָרְשָׁעִיםve/ET-ha/re/sha/IMand the wickedיַשְׁמִידyash/MIDHe destroysוִיקַלֵּלvi/kal/LELand cursesאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe landלָהֶםla/HEMunto themבַּעֲבוּרָם׃ba/a/vu/RAMfor their sakes

    And he leadeth away the righteous into precious lands, and the wicked he destroyeth, and curseth the land unto them for their sakes.

39. 39

    הוּאhuHeמוֹשֵׁלmo/SHELrulesבַּמָּרוֹםbam/ma/ROMhighבַּשָּׁמַיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensכִּיkiforשָׁםshamthere isכִּסְאוֹkis/OHis throneוְהָאָרֶץve/ha/A/retsand the earthהַזֹּאתhaz/ZOTthisהֲדֹםha/DOMis the footstoolרַגְלָיו׃rag/LAYVof His feet

    He ruleth high in the heavens, for it is his throne, and this earth is his footstool.

40. 40

    וְאֹהֵבve/o/HEVand lovesהוּאhuHeאֶת־הָרֹצִיםet-ha/ro/TSIMthose who will haveבּוֹboHimלֵאלֹהִיםle/lo/HIMto be their Godהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֶת־אֲבוֹתֵינוּet-a/vo/TE/nuour fathersאָהֵבa/HEVHe lovedוַיִּכְרֹתvay/yikh/ROTand He covenantedאִתָּםit/TAMwith themבְּרִיתbe/RITa covenantאַףafyea, evenאֶת־אַבְרָהָםet-Av/ra/HAMAbrahamאֶת־יִצְחָקet-Yits/CHAKIsaacוְאֶת־יַעֲקֹבve/ET-ya/a/KOVand Jacobוַיִּזְכֹּרvay/yiz/KORand He rememberedאֶת־בְּרִיתוֹתָיוet-be/ri/to/TAYVhis covenantsאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichכָּרַתka/RATHe madeלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeהוֹצִיאָםho/tsi/AMHe brought them outמֵאֶרֶץme/E/retsof the landמִצְרָיִם׃Mits/RA/yimof Egypt

    And he loveth those who will have him to be their God. Behold, he loved our fathers, and he covenanted with them, yea, even Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and he remembered the covenants which he had made; wherefore, he did bring them out of the land of Egypt.

41. 41

    וַיָּצֶרvay/YA/tserand He straitenedלָהֶםla/HEMthemבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessבְּשִׁבְטוֹbe/shiv/TOwith His rodכִּיkiforהִקְשׁוּhik/SHUthey hardenedאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHEReven asהִקְשֵׁיתֶםhik/she/TEMhaveאַתֶּםat/TEMyouוַיָּצֶרvay/YA/tserand straitenedלָהֶםla/HEMthemיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbecause ofעֲוֹנָםa/vo/NAMtheir iniquityוַיְשַׁלַּחvay/shal/LACHHe sentבָּםbamamong themנְחָשִׁיםne/cha/SHIMserpentsשְׂרָפִיםse/ra/FIMfieryמְעוֹפְפִיםme/of/FIMflyingוַיְהִיvay/HIandאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterנְשָׁכָםne/sha/KHAMthey were bittenוַיָּכֶןvay/YA/khenHe preparedדֶּרֶךְDE/rekha wayלְהֵרָפֵאle/he/ra/FEthat they might be healedוְהַמְּלָאכָהve/ham/me/la/KHAand the laborאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMthey hadלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto performלְהַבִּיטle/hab/BITto lookהָיְתָהha/ye/TAwasוּמִתֹּםu/mit/TOMand because of the simplenessהַדֶּרֶךְhad/DE/rekhof the wayאוֹoorמִקַּלּוּתָהּmik/kal/lu/TAthe easiness of itרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyאָבָדוּ׃a/VA/duthere were who perished

    And he did straiten them in the wilderness with his rod; for they hardened their hearts, even as ye have; and the Lord straitened them because of their iniquity. He sent fiery flying serpents among them; and after they were bitten he prepared a way that they might be healed; and the labor which they had to perform was to look; and because of the simpleness of the way, or the easiness of it, there were many who perished.

42. 42

    וַיַּקְשׁוּvay/yak/SHUand they hardenedאֶת־לִבָּםet-lib/BAMtheir heartsעֵתetfrom timeבְּעֵתbe/ETto timeוַיְגַדְּפוּvay/gad/de/FUand they reviledאֶת־מֹשֶׁהet-Mo/SHEagainst Mosesוְגַםve/GAMand alsoאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםet-e/lo/HIMagainst Godאוּלָםu/LAMneverthelessיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatהוּבְלוּhuv/LUthey were ledבְּכֹחוֹbe/kho/CHOby His powerאֲשֶׁרa/SHERof whichאֵיןenthere is noneכָּמוֹהוּka/mo/HUlike Himאֶל־אֶרֶץel-E/retsinto the landהַנַּחֲלָה׃han/na/cha/LAof promise

    And they did harden their hearts from time to time, and they did revile against Moses, and also against God; nevertheless, ye know that they were led forth by his matchless power into the land of promise.

43. 43

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאַחֲרֵיa/cha/REafterכׇל־הַדְּבָרִיםkhol-had/de/va/RIMall the thingsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseבָּאָהba/Acameהָעֵתha/ETthe timeוְהָיוּve/ha/YUthat they becameלִרְשָׁעִיםlir/sha/IMwickedאַףafyeaכִּמְעַטkim/ATnearlyבָּשְׁלוּba/she/LUunto ripenessוְלֹאve/LOand notיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowאִםimbutלֹאlo(not)קְרוֹבִיםke/ro/VIMaboutהֵםhemthey areהַיּוֹםhay/YOMat this dayלְהִשָּׁמֵדle/hish/sha/MEDto be destroyedכִּיkiforיָדַעְתִּיya/DA/tiI knowכִּיkithatבּוֹאbosurelyיָבוֹאya/VOmust comeהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayוְנִשְׁמְדוּve/nish/me/DUthat they must be destroyedזוּלָתִיzu/la/TIsaveמְעַטִּיםme/at/TIMa few onlyאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhoיוּבְלוּyuv/LUshall be ledבַּשֶּׁבִי׃bash/SHE/viinto captivity

    And now, after all these things, the time has come that they have become wicked, yea, nearly unto ripeness; and I know not but they are at this day about to be destroyed; for I know that the day must surely come that they must be destroyed, save a few only, who shall be led away into captivity.

44. 44

    לָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeצִוָּהtsiv/VAcommandedיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֶת־אָבִיet-a/VImy fatherלָצֵאתla/TSETthat he should departהַמִּדְבָּרָהham/mid/BA/rainto the wildernessוְגַםve/GAMand alsoהַיְּהוּדִיםhay/Ye/hu/DIMthe Jewsבִּקְשׁוּbik/SHUsoughtאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOto take away his lifeוְאַףve/AFyea, andגַּם־אַתֶּםgam-at/TEMyou alsoבִּקַּשְׁתֶּםbik/kash/TEMsoughtאֶת־נַפְשׁוֹet-naf/SHOto take away his lifeלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeרֹצְחִיםrots/CHIMmurderersאַתֶּםat/TEMyou areבִּלְבַבְכֶםbil/vav/KHEMin your heartsוּכְמוֹהֶםu/khe/mo/HEMand like unto themאַתֶּם׃at/TEMyou are

    Wherefore, the Lord commanded my father that he should depart into the wilderness; and the Jews also sought to take away his life; yea, and ye also have sought to take away his life; wherefore, ye are murderers in your hearts and ye are like unto them.

45. 45

    Ye are swift to do iniquity but slow to remember the Lord your God. Ye have seen an angel, and he spake unto you; yea, ye have heard his voice from time to time; and he hath spoken unto you in a still small voice, but ye were past feeling, that ye could not feel his words; wherefore, he has spoken unto you like unto the voice of thunder, which did cause the earth to shake as if it were to divide asunder.

46. 46

    וְגַם־יְדַעְתֶּםve/GAM-ye/da/TEMand you also knowכִּיkithatבְּכֹחַbe/KHO/achby the powerדְּבָרוֹde/va/ROof His wordהַכַּבִּירhak/kab/BIRalmightyיַעֲבִירya/a/VIRHe can cause to pass awayאֶת־הָאָרֶץet-ha/A/retsthe earthאַףafyeaיְדַעְתֶּםye/da/TEMyou knowכִּיkithatבִּדְבָרוֹbid/va/ROby His wordיָשִׂיםya/SIMHe can causeהֶעָקֹבhe/a/KOVthe rough placesלְמִישׁוֹרle/mi/SHORto be made smoothוְהַמִּישׁוֹרve/ham/mi/SHORand smooth placesיִבָּקַעyib/ba/KAshall be broken upהוֹיhoyOלָמָּהLAM/mathen, whyזֶּהzeis itתַקְשׁוּtak/SHUthat you can be so hardאֶת־לְבַבְכֶם׃et-le/vav/KHEMin your hearts

    And ye also know that by the power of his almighty word he can cause the earth that it shall pass away; yea, and ye know that by his word he can cause the rough places to be made smooth, and smooth places shall be broken up. O, then, why is it, that ye can be so hard in your hearts?

    הִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdנַפְשִׁיnaf/SHImy soulנִקְרַעַתnik/RA/atis rentבְּצָרָהbe/tsa/RAwith anguishמִפְּנֵיכֶםmip/pe/ne/KHEMbecause of youוְלִבִּיve/lib/BIand my heartכּוֹאֵבko/EVis painedאֲנִיa/NIIיָרֵאya/REfearפֶּןpenlestתֻּשְׁלְכוּtush/le/KHUyou be cast offלְעוֹלָםle/o/LAMforeverהִנֵּהhin/NEbeholdאֲנִיa/NII amמָלֵאma/LEfullרוּחַRU/achof the Spiritאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatאֵין־כֹּחַen-KO/achhas no strengthבִּגְוִיָּתִי׃big/viy/ya/TImy frame

    Behold, my soul is rent with anguish because of you, and my heart is pained; I fear lest ye shall be cast off forever. Behold, I am full of the Spirit of God, insomuch that my frame has no strength.

48. 48

    וַיְהִיvay/HIand it happenedבְּעֵתbe/ETwhenדַבְּרִיdab/be/RImy speakingאֶת־הַדְּבָרִיםet-had/de/va/RIMthe wordsהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseוַיִּקְצְפוּvay/yik/tse/FUand they were angryעָלַיa/LAYwith meוַיְבַקְשׁוּvay/vak/SHUand soughtלְהַשְׁלִיכֵנִיle/hash/li/khe/NIto cast meלִמְצוּלוֹתlim/tsu/LOTinto the depthsהַיָּםhay/YAMof the seaוּבְגִשְׁתָּםu/ve/gish/TAMand as they drew nearלִשְׁלֹחַlish/LO/achto layיָדyadhandבִּיbiupon meדִּבַּרְתִּיdib/BAR/tiI spokeאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMin the nameאֵלelof GodשַׁדַּיShad/DAYAlmightyמְצַוֶּהme/tsav/VEcommandingאֲנִיa/NIIאֶתְכֶםet/KHEMyouלְבִלְתִּיle/vil/TInot toנְגֹעַne/GO/atouchבִּיbimeכִּיkiforמָלֵאתִיma/LE/tiI am filled withכֹחַKHO/achthe powerאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godעַד־כְּלוֹתad-ke/LOTeven to the consumingבְּשָׂרִיbe/sa/RIof my fleshוְכׇל־הַשּׁוֹלֵחַve/KHOL-hash/sho/LE/achand whoso shall sendיָדוֹya/DOhis handבִּיbiagainst meיִיבַשׁyi/VASHshall witherכְּקָנֶהke/ka/NEas a reedיָבֵשׁya/VESHdriedוְהָיָהve/ha/YAand he shall beכְּאַיִןke/A/yinas noughtלִפְנֵיlif/NEbeforeכֹחַKHO/achthe powerאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godכִּיkiforיַכֶּנּוּyak/KEN/nushall smite himאֱלֹהִים׃e/lo/HIMGod

    And now it came to pass that when I had spoken these words they were angry with me, and were desirous to throw me into the depths of the sea; and as they came forth to lay their hands upon me I spake unto them, saying: In the name of the Almighty God, I command you that ye touch me not, for I am filled with the power of God, even unto the consuming of my flesh; and whoso shall lay his hands upon me shall wither even as a dried reed; and he shall be as naught before the power of God, for God shall smite him.

49. 49

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themאַל־תּוֹסִיפוּal-to/SI/fuadd no moreלְהִתְלוֹנֵןle/hit/lo/NENto murmurעַל־אֲבִיכֶםal-a/vi/KHEMagainst your fatherוְאַל־תִּמְנְעוּve/AL-tim/ne/Uand do not withholdעֲבוֹדַתְכֶםa/vo/dat/KHEMyour laborמִמֶּנִּיmim/MEN/nifrom meכִּיkiforאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodצִוָּנִיtsiv/VA/nicommanded meלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTto buildאֳנִיָּה׃o/niy/YAa ship

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto them that they should murmur no more against their father; neither should they withhold their labor from me, for God had commanded me that I should build a ship.

    וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidאֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMunto themאִם־צִוַּנִיim-tsiv/VA/niif commanded meאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doכׇּל־דָּבָרkol-da/VARevery thingאוּכַלu/KHALI couldלַעֲשׂוֹתָםla/a/so/TAMdo themאִם־יְצַוֵּנִיim-ye/tsav/ve/NIif He should command meלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingלַמַּיִםlam/MA/yimunto the watersהָאֵלֶּהha/EL/letheseהֱיוּhe/YUbe youאֶרֶץE/retsearthוְהָיוּve/ha/YUand it would beלְאָרֶץle/A/retsas earthוְאִם־אֹמַרve/IM-o/MARand if I sayיִהְיֶהyih/YEit would beכֵּן׃kenso

    And I said unto them: If God had commanded me to do all things I could do them. If he should command me that I should say unto this water, be thou earth, it should be earth; and if I should say it, it would be done.

51. 51

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאִםimifכֹּחַKO/achpowerגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatכָּזֶהka/ZEsuchלַיהוָהLa-AdonaiAdonai hasוְנִפְלָאוֹתve/nif/la/OTand miraclesרַבּוֹתrab/BOTmanyכָּאֵלֶּהka/EL/lesoעָשָׂהa/SAwroughtבִּבְנֵיbiv/NEamong the childrenהָאָדָםha/a/DAMof menאֵיךְekhhow is it thatלֹאlonotיוּכַלyu/KHALHe canלְהוֹרֹתֵנִיle/ho/ro/te/NIinstruct meלִבְנוֹתliv/NOTthat I should buildאֳנִיָּה׃o/niy/YAa ship

    And now, if the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he cannot instruct me, that I should build a ship?

    וָאֲדַבֵּרva/a/dab/BERand I spokeאֲנִיa/NIIנֶפִיNE/fiNephiדְבָרִיםde/va/RIMwordsרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyאֶל־אַחַיel-a/CHAYunto my brethrenעַד־אֲשֶׁרad-a/SHERinsomuch thatנִכְלְמוּnikh/le/MUthey were confoundedוְלֹאve/LOand notיָכְלוּya/khe/LUcould theyלְהָרִיבle/ha/RIVcontendאִתִּיit/TIwith meוְלֹא־הֵעֵזּוּve/LO-he/ez/ZUneither durst theyלִשְׁלֹחַlish/LO/achlayיָדָםya/DAMtheir handבִּיbiupon meוְלֹאve/LOnorלָגַעַתla/GA/attouchבִּיbimeבְּאֶצְבְּעוֹתֵיהֶםbe/ets/be/o/te/HEMwith their fingersיָמִיםya/MIMdaysרַבִּיםrab/BIMmanyפֶּןpenlestיִיבְשׁוּyi/ve/SHUthey should witherלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meכִּיkiforחָזָקcha/ZAKstrongהָיָהha/YAwasרוּחַRU/achthe Spiritאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMof Godוְכֵןve/KHENand thusפָּעַלpa/ALit wroughtעֲלֵיהֶם׃a/le/HEMupon them

    And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said many things unto my brethren, insomuch that they were confounded and could not contend against me; neither durst they lay their hands upon me nor touch me with their fingers, even for the space of many days. Now they durst not do this lest they should wither before me, so powerful was the Spirit of God; and thus it had wrought upon them.

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֵלַיe/LAYunto meשְׁלַחshe/LACHstretch forthיָדְךָya/de/KHAyour handשֵׁנִיתshe/NITagainאֶל־אַחֶיךָel-a/CHE/khaunto your brethrenוְלֹאve/LOand notיִיבְשׁוּyi/ve/SHUshall they witherלְפָנֶיךָle/fa/NE/khabefore youאַךְakhbutאַרְעִישֵׁםar/i/SHEMI will shock themנְאֻם־יְהוָהne/UM-Adonaisaith Adonaiוְזֹאתve/ZOTand thisאֶעֱשֶׂהe/e/SEwill I doלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatיֵדְעוּyed/Uthey may knowכִּי־אֲנִיki-a/NIthat IיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֵיהֶם׃e/lo/he/HEMam their God

    And it came to pass that the Lord said unto me: Stretch forth thine hand again unto thy brethren, and they shall not wither before thee, but I will shock them, saith the Lord, and this will I do, that they may know that I am the Lord their God.

54. 54

    וָאֶשְׁלַחva/esh/LACHand I stretched forthאֶת־יָדִיet-ya/DImy handאֶל־אַחַיel-a/CHAYunto my brethrenוְלֹאve/LOand notיָבְשׁוּya/ve/SHUthey witheredלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meוַיַּרְעִישֵׁםvay/yar/i/SHEMand shook themיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiכִּדְבָרוֹkid/va/ROaccording to His wordאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichדִּבֵּר׃dib/BERHe spoke

    And it came to pass that I stretched forth my hand unto my brethren, and they did not wither before me; but the Lord did shake them, even according to the word which he had spoken.

55. 55

    וְעַתָּהve/at/TAand nowאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidיָדֹעַya/DO/aof a suretyיָדַעְנוּya/DA/nuwe knowכִּי־יְהוָהki-Adonaithat Adonaiאִתְּךָit/te/KHAis with youכִּיkiforכֹחַKHO/achthe powerיְהוָהAdonaiof Adonaiהִרְעִישָׁנוּhir/i/sha/NUshook usוַיִּפְּלוּvay/yip/pe/LUand they fellלְפָנַיle/fa/NAYbefore meוַיַּחְפְּצוּvay/yach/pe/TSUand they desiredלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֹתle/hish/ta/cha/VOTto worshipלִיlimeוְלֹאve/LObut notנְתַתִּיםne/tat/TIMI gave themלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingאֲחִיכֶםa/chi/KHEMyour brotherאֲנִיa/NII amאַףafyeaאֲחִיכֶםa/chi/KHEMyour brotherהַצָּעִירhats/tsa/IRthe youngerלָכֵןla/KHENwhereforeהִשְׁתַּחֲווּhish/ta/cha/VUworshipלַיהוָהla-Adonaiunto Adonaiאֱלֹהֵיכֶםe/lo/he/KHEMyour Godוְכַבְּדוּve/khab/be/DUand honorאֶת־אֲבִיכֶםet-a/vi/KHEMyour fatherוְאֶת־אִמְּכֶםve/ET-im/me/KHEMand your motherלְמַעַןle/MA/anthatתַּאֲרִיכוּta/a/RI/khumay be prolongedיָמִיםya/MIMyour daysעַל־הָאָרֶץal-ha/A/retsupon the landאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichיִתֵּןyit/TENshall giveלָכֶםla/KHEMyouיְהוָהAdonaiAdonaiאֱלֹהֵיכֶם׃e/lo/he/KHEMyour God

    And now, they said: We know of a surety that the Lord is with thee, for we know that it is the power of the Lord that has shaken us. And they fell down before me, and were about to worship me, but I would not suffer them, saying: I am thy brother, yea, even thy younger brother; wherefore, worship the Lord thy God, and honor thy father and thy mother, that thy days may be long in the land which the Lord thy God shall give thee.
