Zephaniah 1 צְפַנְיָה פרק א׳

   The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

2. 2

   אָסֹףa/SOFconsumeאָסֵףa/SEFI will consumeכֹּלkolallמֵעַלme/ALfrom offפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe groundנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

   I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.

3. 3

   אָסֵףa/SEFI will consumeאָדָםa/DAMmanוּבְהֵמָהu/ve/he/MAand beastאָסֵףa/SEFI will consumeעוֹף־הַשָּׁמַיִםof-hash/sha/MA/yimthe birds of the heavensוּדְגֵיu/de/GEand the fish ofהַיָּםhay/YAMthe seaוְהַמַּכְשֵׁלוֹתve/ham/makh/she/LOTand the stumbling blocksאֶת־הָרְשָׁעִיםet-ha/re/sha/IMwith the wickedוְהִכְרַתִּיve/hikh/rat/TIand I will cut offאֶת־הָאָדָםet-ha/a/DAMmanמֵעַלme/ALfrom offפְּנֵיpe/NEthe face ofהָאֲדָמָהha/a/da/MAthe groundנְאֻם־יְהֹוָה׃ne/UM-Adonaisays the LORD

   I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.

   וְנָטִיתִיve/na/TI/tiand I will stretch outיָדִיya/DImy handעַל־יְהוּדָהal-Ye/hu/DAupon Judahוְעַלve/ALand uponכׇּל־יוֹשְׁבֵיkol-YOSH/veall the inhabitants ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִםYe/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemוְהִכְרַתִּיve/hikh/rat/TIand I will cut offמִן־הַמָּקוֹםmin-ham/ma/KOMfrom the placeהַזֶּהhaz/ZEthisאֶת־שְׁאָרet-she/ARthe remnant ofהַבַּעַלHab/BA/alBaalאֶת־שֵׁםet-shemthe name ofהַכְּמָרִיםhak/ke/ma/RIMthe pagan priestsעִם־הַכֹּהֲנִים׃im-hak/ko/ha/NIMwith the priests

   I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;

   וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁתַּחֲוִיםve/ET-ham/mish/ta/cha/VIMand those who worshipעַל־הַגַּגּוֹתal-hag/gag/GOTupon the housetopsלִצְבָאlits/VAto the host ofהַשָּׁמָיִםhash/sha/MA/yimthe heavensוְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁתַּחֲוִיםve/ET-ham/mish/ta/cha/VIMand those who worshipהַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםhan/nish/ba/IMthose who swearלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiby the LORDוְהַנִּשְׁבָּעִיםve/han/nish/ba/IMand swearבְּמַלְכָּם׃be/Mal/KAMby Malcham

   And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;

6. 6

   וְאֶת־הַנְּסוֹגִיםve/ET-han/ne/so/GIMand those who turned backמֵאַחֲרֵיme/a/cha/REfrom afterיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַאֲשֶׁרva/a/SHERand whoלֹא־בִקְשׁוּlo-vik/SHUhave not soughtאֶת־יְהֹוָהet-Adonaithe LORDוְלֹאve/LOnorדְרָשֻׁהוּ׃de/ra/SHU/huinquired of Him

   And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.

7. 7

   הַסhassilenceמִפְּנֵיmip/pe/NEbeforeאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYLordיֱהֹוִהAdonaiGODכִּיkiforקָרוֹבka/ROVnearיוֹםyomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDכִּי־הֵכִיןki-he/KHINfor has preparedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDזֶבַחZE/vacha sacrificeהִקְדִּישׁhik/DISHHe has consecratedקְרֻאָיו׃ke/ru/AYVHis guests

   Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.

8. 8

   וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofזֶבַחZE/vachthe sacrifice ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוּפָקַדְתִּיu/fa/kad/TIand I will punishעַל־הַשָּׂרִיםal-has/sa/RIMupon the princesוְעַל־בְּנֵיve/AL-be/NEand upon the sons ofהַמֶּלֶךְham/ME/lekhthe kingוְעַלve/ALand uponכׇּל־הַלֹּבְשִׁיםkol-hal/lov/SHIMall who are clothed inמַלְבּוּשׁmal/BUSHapparelנׇכְרִי׃nokh/RIforeign

   And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD's sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

9. 9

   וּפָקַדְתִּיu/fa/kad/TIand I will punishעַלaluponכׇּל־הַדּוֹלֵגkol-had/do/LEGall who leapעַל־הַמִּפְתָּןal-ham/mif/TANupon the thresholdבַּיּוֹםbay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatהַמְמַלְאִיםham/mal/IMwho fillבֵּיתbetthe house ofאֲדֹנֵיהֶםa/do/ne/HEMtheir mastersחָמָסcha/MASviolenceוּמִרְמָה׃u/mir/MAand deceit

   In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, which fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.

10. 10

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבַיּוֹםvay/YOMin the dayהַהוּאha/HUthatנְאֻם־יְהֹוָהne/UM-Adonaisays the LORDקוֹלkolthe sound ofצְעָקָהtse/a/KAa cryמִשַּׁעַרmish/SHA/arfrom the gate ofהַדָּגִיםhad/da/GIMthe fishוִילָלָהvi/la/LAand a howlingמִן־הַמִּשְׁנֶהmin-ham/mish/NEfrom the secondוְשֶׁבֶרve/SHE/verand a crashingגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatמֵהַגְּבָעוֹת׃me/hag/ge/va/OTfrom the hills

    And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, and an howling from the second, and a great crashing from the hills.

11. 11

    הֵילִילוּhe/LI/luhowlיֹשְׁבֵיyosh/VEO inhabitants ofהַמַּכְתֵּשׁHam/makh/TESHMakteshכִּיkiforנִדְמָהnid/MAare cut downכׇּל־עַםkol-amall the people ofכְּנַעַןke/NA/anthe merchantנִכְרְתוּnikh/re/TUare cut offכׇּל־נְטִילֵיkol-ne/TI/leall they that bearכָסֶף׃KHA/sefsilver

    Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.

12. 12

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand it shall beבָּעֵתba/ETat the timeהַהִיאha/HIthatאֲחַפֵּשׂa/chap/PESI will searchאֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםet-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemבַּנֵּרוֹתban/ne/ROTwith lampsוּפָקַדְתִּיu/fa/kad/TIand I will punishעַל־הָאֲנָשִׁיםal-ha/a/na/SHIMthe menהַקֹּפְאִיםhak/kof/IMthat are settledעַל־שִׁמְרֵיהֶםal-shim/re/HEMupon their leesהָאֹמְרִיםha/om/RIMwho sayבִּלְבָבָםbil/va/VAMin their heartלֹא־יֵיטִיבlo-ye/TIVwill not do goodיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוְלֹאve/LOand notיָרֵעַ׃ya/RE/awill He do evil

    And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

13. 13

    וְהָיָהve/ha/YAand shall becomeחֵילָםche/LAMtheir wealthלִמְשִׁסָּהlim/shis/SAa bootyוּבָתֵּיהֶםu/vat/te/HEMand their housesלִשְׁמָמָהlish/ma/MAa desolationוּבָנוּu/va/NUand they shall buildבָתִּיםvat/TIMhousesוְלֹאve/LOand notיֵשֵׁבוּye/SHE/vudwellוְנָטְעוּve/na/te/Uand they shall plantכְרָמִיםkhe/ra/MIMvineyardsוְלֹאve/LOand notיִשְׁתּוּyish/TUdrinkאֶת־יֵינָם׃et-ye/NAMtheir wine

    Therefore their goods shall become a booty, and their houses a desolation: they shall also build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

14. 14

    קָרוֹבka/ROVnearיוֹם־יְהֹוָהyom-Adonaithe day of the LORDהַגָּדוֹלhag/ga/DOLthe greatקָרוֹבka/ROVnearוּמַהֵרu/ma/HERand hasteningמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyקוֹלkolthe voice ofיוֹםyomthe day ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDמַרmarbitterlyצֹרֵחַtso/RE/achcries outשָׁםshamthereגִּבּוֹר׃gib/BORthe mighty man

    The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.

15. 15

    יוֹםyoma day ofעֶבְרָהev/RAwrathהַיּוֹםhay/YOMthe dayהַהוּאha/HUthatיוֹםyoma day ofצָרָהtsa/RAtroubleוּמְצוּקָהu/me/tsu/KAand distressיוֹםyoma day ofשֹׁאָהsho/Awastenessוּמְשׁוֹאָהu/me/sho/Aand desolationיוֹםyoma day ofחֹשֶׁךְCHO/shekhdarknessוַאֲפֵלָהva/a/fe/LAand gloominessיוֹםyoma day ofעָנָןa/NANcloudsוַעֲרָפֶל׃va/a/ra/FELand thick darkness

    That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16. 16

    יוֹםyoma day ofשׁוֹפָרsho/FARshofarוּתְרוּעָהu/te/ru/Aand alarmעַלalagainstהֶעָרִיםhe/a/RIMthe citiesהַבְּצֻרוֹתhab/be/tsu/ROTthe fortifiedוְעַלve/ALand againstהַפִּנּוֹתhap/pin/NOTthe corner towersהַגְּבֹהוֹת׃hag/ge/vo/HOTthe high

    A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.

17. 17

    וַהֲצֵרֹתִיva/ha/tse/RO/tiand I will bring distressלָאָדָםla/a/DAMupon menוְהָלְכוּve/ha/le/KHUand they shall walkכַּעִוְרִיםka/iv/RIMlike the blindכִּיkibecauseלַיהֹוָהla-Adonaiagainst the LORDחָטָאוּcha/TA/uthey have sinnedוְשֻׁפַּךְve/shup/PAKHand shall be poured outדָּמָםda/MAMtheir bloodכֶּעָפָרke/a/FARlike the dustוּלְחֻמָםu/le/chu/MAMand their fleshכַּגְּלָלִים׃kag/ge/la/LIMlike the dung

    And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.

18. 18

    גַּם־כַּסְפָּםgam-kas/PAMalso their silverגַּם־זְהָבָםgam-ze/ha/VAMalso their goldלֹא־יוּכַלlo-yu/KHALshall not be ableלְהַצִּילָםle/hats/tsi/LAMto deliver themבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofעֶבְרַתev/RATthe wrath ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוּבְאֵשׁu/ve/ESHand in the fire ofקִנְאָתוֹkin/a/TOHis jealousyתֵּאָכֵלte/a/KHELshall be devouredכׇּל־הָאָרֶץkol-ha/A/retsthe whole landכִּי־כָלָהki-kha/LAfor an endאַךְ־נִבְהָלָהakh-niv/ha/LAyes a sudden oneיַעֲשֶׂהya/a/SEHe will makeאֵת־כׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵיet-kol-yosh/VEof all the inhabitants ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe land

    Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
