   In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

   קָצַףka/TSAFhas been displeasedיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעַל־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶםal-a/vo/te/KHEMwith your fathersקָצֶף׃KA/tsefdispleasure

   The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.

3. 3

   וְאָמַרְתָּve/a/mar/TAand sayאֲלֵהֶםa/le/HEMto themכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsשׁוּבוּSHU/vuturnאֵלַיe/LAYto meנְאֻםne/UMsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsוְאָשׁוּבve/a/SHUVand I will turnאֲלֵיכֶםa/le/KHEMto youאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹת׃tse/va/OTof hosts

   Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts.

   Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD.

   אֲבוֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMyour fathersאַיֵּה־הֵםay/YE-hemwhere are theyוְהַנְּבִאִיםve/han/ne/vi/IMand the prophetsהַלְעוֹלָםhal/o/LAMfor everיִחְיוּ׃yich/YUdo they live

   Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

   אַךְakhbutדְּבָרַיde/va/RAYmy wordsוְחֻקַּיve/chuk/KAYand my statutesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוִּיתִיtsiv/VI/tiI commandedאֶת־עֲבָדַיet-a/va/DAYmy servantsהַנְּבִיאִיםhan/ne/vi/IMthe prophetsהֲלוֹאha/LOdid they notהִשִּׂיגוּhis/SI/gutake hold ofאֲבֹתֵיכֶםa/vo/te/KHEMyour fathersוַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they returnedוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidכַּאֲשֶׁרka/a/SHERasזָמַםza/MAMthoughtיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsלַעֲשׂוֹתla/a/SOTto doלָנוּLA/nuto usכִּדְרָכֵינוּkid/ra/KHE/nuaccording to our waysוּכְמַעֲלָלֵינוּu/khe/ma/a/la/LE/nuand according to our doingsכֵּןkensoעָשָׂהa/SAhas He dealtאִתָּנוּ׃it/TA/nuwith us

   But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? and they returned and said, Like as the LORD of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

   Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

   רָאִיתִיra/I/tiI sawהַלַּיְלָהhal/LAY/laby nightוְהִנֵּה־אִישׁve/hin/NE-ishand behold a manרֹכֵבro/KHEVridingעַל־סוּסal-susupon a horseאָדֹםa/DOMredוְהוּאve/HUand heעֹמֵדo/MEDstoodבֵּיןbenamongהַהֲדַסִּיםha/ha/das/SIMthe myrtle treesאֲשֶׁרa/SHERthat wereבַּמְּצֻלָהbam/me/tsu/LAin the hollowוְאַחֲרָיוve/a/cha/RAYVand behind himסוּסִיםsu/SIMhorsesאֲדֻמִּיםa/dum/MIMredשְׂרֻקִּיםse/ruk/KIMsorrelוּלְבָנִים׃u/le/va/NIMand white

   I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in the bottom; and behind him were there red horses, speckled, and white.

   וָאֹמַרva/o/MARand I saidמָה־אֵלֶּהma-EL/lewhat are theseאֲדֹנִיa/do/NIO my lordוַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelהַדֹּבֵרhad/do/VERthat talkedבִּיbiwith meאֲנִיa/NIIאַרְאֶךָּar/EK/kawill show youמָה־הֵמָּהma-HEM/mawhat theyאֵלֶּה׃EL/lethese

   Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will shew thee what these be.

10. 10

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredהָאִישׁha/ISHthe manהָעֹמֵדha/o/MEDthat stoodבֵּין־הַהֲדַסִּיםben-ha/ha/das/SIMamong the myrtle treesוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidאֵלֶּהEL/letheseאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhomשָׁלַחsha/LACHhas sentיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDלְהִתְהַלֵּךְle/hit/hal/LEKHto walk to and froבָּאָרֶץ׃ba/A/retsthrough the earth

    And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

11. 11

    וַיַּעֲנוּvay/ya/a/NUand they answeredאֶת־מַלְאַךְet-mal/AKHthe angel ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDהָעֹמֵדha/o/MEDthat stoodבֵּיןbenamongהַהֲדַסִּיםha/ha/das/SIMthe myrtle treesוַיֹּאמְרוּvay/yo/me/RUand they saidהִתְהַלַּכְנוּhit/hal/LAKH/nuwe have walked to and froבָאָרֶץva/A/retsthrough the earthוְהִנֵּהve/hin/NEand beholdכׇל־הָאָרֶץkhol-ha/A/retsall the earthיֹשֶׁבֶתyo/SHE/vetsits stillוְשֹׁקָטֶת׃ve/sho/KA/tetand is at rest

    And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

12. 12

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand he answeredמַלְאַךְ־יְהֹוָהmal/AKH-Adonaithe angel of the LORDוַיֹּאמַרvay/yo/MARand saidיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsעַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longאַתָּהat/TAwill youלֹא־תְרַחֵםlo-te/ra/CHEMnot have mercy onאֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ͏ִםet-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimJerusalemוְאֵתve/ETandעָרֵיa/REthe cities ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֲשֶׁרa/SHERagainst whichזָעַמְתָּהza/AM/tayou have had indignationזֶהzetheseשִׁבְעִיםshiv/IMseventyשָׁנָה׃sha/NAyears

    Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

13. 13

    וַיַּעַןvay/YA/anand answeredיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDאֶת־הַמַּלְאָךְet-ham/mal/AKHthe angelהַדֹּבֵרhad/do/VERthat talkedבִּיbiwith meדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMwordsטוֹבִיםto/VIMgoodדְּבָרִיםde/va/RIMwordsנִחֻמִים׃ni/chu/MIMof comfort

    And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words.

14. 14

    וַיֹּאמֶרvay/YO/merand saidאֵלַיe/LAYto meהַמַּלְאָךְham/mal/AKHthe angelהַדֹּבֵרhad/do/VERthat talkedבִּיbiwith meקְרָאke/RAcryלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsקִנֵּאתִיkin/NE/tiI am jealousלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimfor Jerusalemוּלְצִיּוֹןu/Le/tsiy/YONand for Zionקִנְאָהkin/Awith a jealousyגְדוֹלָה׃ge/do/LAgreat

    So the angel that communed with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

15. 15

    וְקֶצֶףve/KE/tsefand displeasureגָּדוֹלga/DOLgreatאֲנִיa/NIIקֹצֵףko/TSEFam displeasedעַל־הַגּוֹיִםal-hag/go/YIMwith the nationsהַשַּׁאֲנַנִּיםhash/sha/a/nan/NIMthat are at easeאֲשֶׁרa/SHERforאֲנִיa/NIIקָצַפְתִּיka/TSAF/tiwas displeasedמְּעָטme/ATa littleוְהֵמָּהve/HEM/maand theyעָזְרוּa/ze/RUhelpedלְרָעָה׃le/ra/Afor evil

    And I am very sore displeased with the heathen that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

16. 16

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeכֹּה־אָמַרko-a/MARthus saysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשַׁבְתִּיSHAV/tiI have returnedלִירוּשָׁלַ͏ִםlI/ru/sha/LA/yimto Jerusalemבְּרַחֲמִיםbe/ra/cha/MIMwith merciesבֵּיתִיbe/TImy houseיִבָּנֶהyib/ba/NEshall be builtבָּהּbain itנְאֻםne/UMsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hosts(וקוה)vakavah[וְקָו]ve/KAVand a lineיִנָּטֶהyin/na/TEshall be stretched forthעַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃al-Ye/ru/sha/LA/yimupon Jerusalem

    Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

17. 17

    עוֹדodyetקְרָאke/RAcryלֵאמֹרle/MORsayingכֹּהkothusאָמַרa/MARsaysיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDצְבָאוֹתtse/va/OTof hostsעוֹדodyetתְּפוּצֶנָהte/fu/TSE/nashall be spread abroadעָרַיa/RAYmy citiesמִטּוֹבmit/TOVwith prosperityוְנִחַםve/ni/CHAMand shall comfortיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעוֹדodyetאֶת־צִיּוֹןet-Tsiy/YONZionוּבָחַרu/va/CHARand shall chooseעוֹדodyetבִּירוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃bI/ru/sha/LA/yimin Jerusalem

    Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.
