1. 1

   תְּפִלָּהa prayerלְמֹשֶׁהof Mosesאִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִיםthe man of GodאֲדֹנָיO Lordמָעוֹןa dwelling placeאַתָּהYouהָיִיתָhave beenלָּנוּfor usבְּדֹרin all generationsוָדֹר׃to generation

   A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

2. 2

   בְּטֶרֶםbeforeהָרִיםthe mountainsיֻלָּדוּwere brought forthוַתְּחוֹלֵלor ever You had formedאֶרֶץthe earthוְתֵבֵלand the worldוּמֵעוֹלָםand from everlastingעַד־עוֹלָםforeverאַתָּהYou areאֵל׃God

   Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

   תָּשֵׁבYou turnאֱנוֹשׁmanעַד־דַּכָּאback to dustוַתֹּאמֶרand sayשׁוּבוּreturnבְנֵי־אָדָם׃you sons of men

   Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.

4. 4

   כִּיbecauseאֶלֶףthousandשָׁנִיםyearsבְּעֵינֶיךָin Your sightכְּיוֹםas the day ofאֶתְמוֹלyesterdayכִּיbecauseיַעֲבֹרit is pastוְאַשְׁמוּרָהand a watchבַלָּיְלָה׃in the night

   For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

   זְרַמְתָּםYou carry them awayשֵׁנָהas a sleepיִהְיוּthey areבַּבֹּקֶרin the morningכֶּחָצִירlike grassיַחֲלֹף׃which springs up

   Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.

   בַּבֹּקֶרin the morningיָצִיץit flourishesוְחָלָףand grows upלָעֶרֶבin the eveningיְמוֹלֵלit is cut downוְיָבֵשׁ׃and withers

   In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.

   כִּי־כָלִינוּfor we are consumedבְאַפֶּךָby Your angerוּבַחֲמָתְךָand by Your wrathנִבְהָלְנוּ׃we are dismayed

   For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

8. 8

   שַׁתָּYou have setעֲוֺנֹתֵינוּour iniquitiesלְנֶגְדֶּךָbefore Youעֲלֻמֵנוּour secret sinsלִמְאוֹרin the light ofפָּנֶיךָ׃Your face

   Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.

9. 9

   כִּיforכׇל־יָמֵינוּall our daysפָּנוּhave passed awayבְעֶבְרָתֶךָin Your wrathכִּלִּינוּwe spendשָׁנֵינוּour yearsכְמוֹ־הֶגֶה׃as a tale that is told

   For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

    יְמֵי־שְׁנוֹתֵינוּthe days of our yearsבָהֶםareשִׁבְעִיםseventyשָׁנָהyearsוְאִםand if by reason ofבִּגְבוּרֹתby strengthשְׁמוֹנִיםeightyשָׁנָהyearsוְרׇהְבָּםyet is their prideעָמָלlaborוָאָוֶןand sorrowכִּי־גָזfor it is soon cut offחִישׁquicklyוַנָּעֻפָה׃and we fly away

    The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

    מִי־יוֹדֵעַwho knowsעֹזthe power ofאַפֶּךָYour angerוּכְיִרְאָתְךָand according to the fear of Youעֶבְרָתֶךָ׃is Your wrath

    Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.

12. 12

    לִמְנוֹתto numberיָמֵינוּour daysכֵּןsoהוֹדַעteach usוְנָבִאthat we may gainלְבַבa heart ofחׇכְמָה׃wisdom

    So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

13. 13

    שׁוּבָהreturnיְהֹוָהO LORDעַד־מָתָיhow longוְהִנָּחֵםand relentעַל־עֲבָדֶיךָ׃concerning Your servants

    Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.

14. 14

    שַׂבְּעֵנוּsatisfy usבַבֹּקֶרin the morningחַסְדֶּךָwith Your mercyוּנְרַנְּנָהthat we may rejoiceוְנִשְׂמְחָהand be gladבְּכׇל־יָמֵינוּ׃in all our days

    O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15. 15

    שַׂמְּחֵנוּmake us gladכִּימוֹתaccording to the daysעִנִּיתָנוּYou have afflicted usשְׁנוֹתthe years ofרָאִינוּwe have seenרָעָה׃evil

    Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.

16. 16

    יֵרָאֶהlet appearאֶל־עֲבָדֶיךָto Your servantsפׇעֳלֶךָYour workוַהֲדָרְךָand Your gloryעַל־בְּנֵיהֶם׃to their children

    Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.

17. 17

    וִיהִיand let beנֹעַםthe beauty ofאֲדֹנָיthe Lordאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godעָלֵינוּupon usוּמַעֲשֵׂהand the work ofיָדֵינוּour handsכּוֹנְנָהestablish itעָלֵינוּupon usוּמַעֲשֵׂהand the work ofיָדֵינוּour handsכּוֹנְנֵהוּ׃establish it

    And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
