   מַשְׂכִּילa maskilלְאֵיתָןof Ethanהָאֶזְרָחִי׃the Ezrahite

   Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite.

2. 2

   חַסְדֵיthe mercies ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDעוֹלָםforeverאָשִׁירָהI will singלְדֹרfrom generationוָדֹרto generationאוֹדִיעַI will make knownאֱמוּנָתְךָYour faithfulnessבְּפִי׃with my mouth

   I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

   כִּי־אָמַרְתִּיfor I have saidעוֹלָםforeverחֶסֶדmercyיִבָּנֶהshall be built upשָׁמַיִםin the heavensתָּכִןYou will establishאֱמוּנָתְךָYour faithfulnessבָהֶם׃among them

   For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

   כָּרַתִּיI have madeבְרִיתa covenantלִבְחִירִיwith My chosenנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיI have swornלְדָוִדto Davidעַבְדִּי׃My servant

   I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,

5. 5

   עַד־עוֹלָםforeverאָכִיןI will establishזַרְעֶךָyour seedוּבָנִיתִיand I will buildלְדֹר־וָדוֹרto a generation to generationכִּסְאֲךָyour throneסֶלָה׃Selah

   Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

   וְיוֹדוּand shall praiseשָׁמַיִםthe heavensפִּלְאֲךָYour wondersיְהֹוָהO LORDאַף־אֱמוּנָתְךָyea Your faithfulnessבִּקְהַלin the assembly ofקְדֹשִׁים׃the holy ones

   And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

   כִּיforמִיwhoבַשַּׁחַקin the skyיַעֲרֹךְcan be comparedלַיהֹוָהto the LORDיִדְמֶהcan be likenedלַיהֹוָהto the LORDבִּבְנֵיamong the sons ofאֵלִים׃the mighty

   For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?

8. 8

   אֵלGodנַעֲרָץis greatly fearedבְּסוֹד־קְדֹשִׁיםin the council of the holy onesרַבָּהgreatוְנוֹרָאand to be held in aweעַל־כׇּל־סְבִיבָיו׃above all who are round about Him

   God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

   יְהֹוָהO LORDאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofצְבָאוֹתof hostsמִי־כָמוֹךָwho is like Youחֲסִיןis mightyיָהּthe LORDוֶאֱמוּנָתְךָand Your faithfulnessסְבִיבוֹתֶיךָ׃is round about You

   O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?

10. 10

    אַתָּהYouמוֹשֵׁלruleבְּגֵאוּתover the swelling ofהַיָּםthe seaבְּשׂוֹאwhen rise upגַלָּיוits wavesאַתָּהYouתְשַׁבְּחֵם׃You still them

    Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

    אַתָּהYouדִכִּאתָYou have brokenכֶחָלָלlike one slainרָהַבRahabבִּזְרוֹעַwith the arm ofעֻזְּךָYour strengthפִּזַּרְתָּYou have scatteredאוֹיְבֶיךָ׃Your enemies

    Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.

12. 12

    לְךָYours areשָׁמַיִםthe heavensאַף־לְךָYours also isאָרֶץthe earthתֵּבֵלthe worldוּמְלֹאָהּand all its fullnessאַתָּהYouיְסַדְתָּם׃have founded them

    The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

    צָפוֹןthe northוְיָמִיןand the southאַתָּהYouבְרָאתָםhave created themתָּבוֹרTaborוְחֶרְמוֹןand Hermonבְּשִׁמְךָin Your nameיְרַנֵּנוּ׃shall rejoice

    The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.

14. 14

    לְךָYours isזְרוֹעַan armעִם־גְּבוּרָהwith mightתָּעֹזstrong isיָדְךָYour handתָּרוּםand high isיְמִינֶךָ׃Your right hand

    Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

15. 15

    צֶדֶקrighteousnessוּמִשְׁפָּטand judgmentמְכוֹןare the foundation ofכִּסְאֶךָYour throneחֶסֶדmercyוֶאֱמֶתand truthיְקַדְּמוּgo beforeפָנֶיךָ׃Your face

    Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

16. 16

    אַשְׁרֵיblessed areהָעָםis the peopleיֹדְעֵיwho knowתְרוּעָהthe joyful soundיְהֹוָהO LORDבְּאוֹר־פָּנֶיךָin the light of Your countenanceיְהַלֵּכוּן׃they shall walk

    Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.

17. 17

    בְּשִׁמְךָin Your nameיְגִילוּןthey shall rejoiceכׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the dayוּבְצִדְקָתְךָand in Your righteousnessיָרוּמוּ׃they shall be exalted

    In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

18. 18

    כִּי־תִפְאֶרֶתfor the glory ofעֻזָּמוֹtheir strengthאָתָּהYou areוּבִרְצוֹנְךָand in Your favor(תרים)[תָּרוּם]shall be exaltedקַרְנֵינוּ׃our horn

    For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

19. 19

    כִּיforלַיהֹוָהto the LORDמָגִנֵּנוּis our shieldוְלִקְדוֹשׁand to the holy one ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelמַלְכֵּנוּ׃is our king

    For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

20. 20

    אָזthenדִּבַּרְתָּ־בְחָזוֹןYou spoke in a visionלַחֲסִידֶיךָto Your faithful onesוַתֹּאמֶרand saidשִׁוִּיתִיI have laidעֵזֶרhelpעַל־גִּבּוֹרupon a mighty oneהֲרִימוֹתִיI have exaltedבָחוּרone chosenמֵעָם׃out of the people

    Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

21. 21

    מָצָאתִיI have foundדָּוִדDavidעַבְדִּיMy servantבְּשֶׁמֶןwith oilקׇדְשִׁיMy holy oilמְשַׁחְתִּיו׃I have anointed him

    I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

22. 22

    אֲשֶׁרwhichיָדִיMy handתִּכּוֹןshall be establishedעִמּוֹwith himאַף־זְרוֹעִיyea My armתְאַמְּצֶנּוּ׃shall strengthen him

    With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.

23. 23

    לֹא־יַשִּׁיאshall not outwitאוֹיֵבthe enemyבּוֹhimוּבֶן־עַוְלָהnor the son of wickednessלֹאnotיְעַנֶּנּוּ׃afflict him

    The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

24. 24

    וְכַתּוֹתִיand I will beat downמִפָּנָיוbefore his faceצָרָיוhis foesוּמְשַׂנְאָיוand those who hate himאֶגּוֹף׃I will strike down

    And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.

25. 25

    וֶאֱמוּנָתִיand My faithfulnessוְחַסְדִּיand My mercyעִמּוֹshall be with himוּבִשְׁמִיand in My nameתָּרוּםshall be exaltedקַרְנוֹ׃his horn

    But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

26. 26

    וְשַׂמְתִּיand I will setבַיָּםon the seaיָדוֹhis handוּבַנְּהָרוֹתand on the riversיְמִינוֹ׃his right hand

    I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

27. 27

    הוּאheיִקְרָאֵנִיshall cry to Meאָבִיmy FatherאָתָּהYou areאֵלִיmy Godוְצוּרand the rock ofיְשׁוּעָתִי׃of my salvation

    He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

28. 28

    אַף־אָנִיalso IבְּכוֹרMy firstbornאֶתְּנֵהוּI will make himעֶלְיוֹןhigherלְמַלְכֵי־אָרֶץ׃than the kings of the earth

    Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

29. 29

    לְעוֹלָםforever[אֶשְׁמׇר־]לוֹI will keep for himחַסְדִּיMy mercyוּבְרִיתִיand My covenantנֶאֱמֶנֶתshall stand fastלוֹ׃with him

    My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

30. 30

    וְשַׂמְתִּיand I will establishלָעַדforeverזַרְעוֹhis seedוְכִסְאוֹand his throneכִּימֵיas the days ofשָׁמָיִם׃heaven

    His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

31. 31

    אִם־יַעַזְבוּif they shall forsakeבָנָיוhis childrenתּוֹרָתִיMy lawוּבְמִשְׁפָּטַיand in My ordinancesלֹאnotיֵלֵכוּן׃do they walk

    If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

32. 32

    אִם־חֻקֹּתַיif My statutesיְחַלֵּלוּthey profaneוּמִצְוֺתַיand My commandmentsלֹאnotיִשְׁמֹרוּ׃do they keep

    If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

33. 33

    וּפָקַדְתִּיthen I will visitבְשֵׁבֶטwith a rodפִּשְׁעָםtheir transgressionוּבִנְגָעִיםand with plaguesעֲוֺנָם׃their iniquity

    Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

34. 34

    וְחַסְדִּיbut My mercyלֹא־אָפִירI will not utterly takeמֵעִמּוֹfrom himוְלֹא־אֲשַׁקֵּרnor suffer to failבֶּאֱמוּנָתִי׃My faithfulness

    Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

35. 35

    לֹא־אֲחַלֵּלI will not breakבְּרִיתִיMy covenantוּמוֹצָאand what has gone out ofשְׂפָתַיMy lipsלֹאnotאֲשַׁנֶּה׃will I alter

    My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

36. 36

    אַחַתonceנִשְׁבַּעְתִּיhave I swornבְקׇדְשִׁיby My holinessאִם־לְדָוִדthat to Davidאֲכַזֵּב׃I will not lie

    Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.

37. 37

    זַרְעוֹhis seedלְעוֹלָםforeverיִהְיֶהshall endureוְכִסְאוֹand his throneכַשֶּׁמֶשׁas the sunנֶגְדִּי׃before Me

    His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

38. 38

    כְּיָרֵחַas the moonיִכּוֹןit shall be establishedעוֹלָםforeverוְעֵדand as a witnessבַּשַּׁחַקin the skyנֶאֱמָןfaithfulסֶלָה׃Selah

    It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

39. 39

    וְאַתָּהbut Youזָנַחְתָּhave cast offוַתִּמְאָסand abhorredהִתְעַבַּרְתָּYou have been wrothעִם־מְשִׁיחֶךָ׃with Your anointed

    But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

40. 40

    נֵאַרְתָּהYou have renouncedבְּרִיתthe covenant ofעַבְדֶּךָYour servantחִלַּלְתָּYou have profanedלָאָרֶץto the groundנִזְרוֹ׃his crown

    Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

41. 41

    פָּרַצְתָּYou have broken downכׇל־גְּדֵרֹתָיוall his hedgesשַׂמְתָּYou have broughtמִבְצָרָיוhis strongholdsמְחִתָּה׃to ruin

    Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

42. 42

    שַׁסֻּהוּplunder himכׇּל־עֹבְרֵיall those who pass by ofדָרֶךְa pathהָיָהhe isחֶרְפָּהa reproachלִשְׁכֵנָיו׃to his neighbors

    All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

43. 43

    הֲרִימוֹתָYou have set upיְמִיןthe right hand ofצָרָיוhis adversariesהִשְׂמַחְתָּyou have made to rejoiceכׇּל־אוֹיְבָיו׃all his enemies

    Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

44. 44

    אַף־תָּשִׁיבyea You turn backצוּרthe edge ofחַרְבּוֹhis swordוְלֹאand notהֲקֵימֹתוֹhave You made him standבַּמִּלְחָמָה׃in the battle

    Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

45. 45

    הִשְׁבַּתָּYou have made to ceaseמִטְּהָרוֹhis splendorוְכִסְאוֹand his throneלָאָרֶץto the groundמִגַּרְתָּה׃You have cast down

    Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

46. 46

    הִקְצַרְתָּYou have shortenedיְמֵיthe days ofעֲלוּמָיוhis youthהֶעֱטִיתָYou have coveredעָלָיוupon himבּוּשָׁהwith shameסֶלָה׃Selah

    The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

47. 47

    עַד־מָהhow longיְהֹוָהO LORDתִּסָּתֵרwill You hide Yourselfלָנֶצַחforeverתִּבְעַרshall burnכְּמוֹ־אֵשׁlike fireחֲמָתֶךָ׃Your wrath

    How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?

48. 48

    זְכׇר־אֲנִיremember how shortמֶה־חָלֶדmy lifetime isעַל־מַה־שָּׁוְאfor what vanityבָּרָאתָhave You createdכׇל־בְּנֵי־אָדָם׃all the sons of men

    Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?

49. 49

    מִיwhoגֶבֶרis the manיִחְיֶהwho livesוְלֹאand notיִרְאֶה־מָּוֶתshall see deathיְמַלֵּטshall he deliverנַפְשׁוֹhis soulמִיַּד־שְׁאוֹלfrom the power of Sheolסֶלָה׃Selah

    What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

50. 50

    אַיֵּהwhere isחֲסָדֶיךָYour merciesהָרִאשֹׁנִיםthe formerאֲדֹנָיO LordנִשְׁבַּעְתָּYou sworeלְדָוִדto Davidבֶּאֱמוּנָתֶךָ׃in Your truth

    Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

51. 51

    זְכֹרrememberאֲדֹנָיO Lordחֶרְפַּתthe reproach ofעֲבָדֶיךָYour servantsשְׂאֵתִיhow I bearבְחֵיקִיin my bosomכׇּל־רַבִּיםall the manyעַמִּים׃peoples

    Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;

52. 52

    אֲשֶׁרwhichחֵרְפוּhave reproachedאוֹיְבֶיךָYour enemiesיְהֹוָהO LORDאֲשֶׁרwhichחֵרְפוּhave reproachedעִקְּבוֹתthe footprints ofמְשִׁיחֶךָ׃Your anointed

    Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

53. 53

    בָּרוּךְblessed beיְהֹוָהthe LORDלְעוֹלָםforeverאָמֵןamenוְאָמֵן׃and amen

    Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
