   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianאֶל־שֹׁשַׁנִּיםupon Shoshannim-עֵדוּתeduthלְאָסָףof Asaphמִזְמוֹר׃a psalm

   To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim-eduth, A Psalm of Asaph.

   רֹעֵהO Shepherd ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהַאֲזִינָהgive earנֹהֵגYou who leadכַּצֹּאןlike a flockיוֹסֵףJosephיֹשֵׁבYou who are enthroned uponהַכְּרוּבִיםthe cherubimהוֹפִיעָה׃shine forth

   Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

   לִפְנֵיbeforeאֶפְרַיִםEphraimוּבִנְיָמִןand Benjaminוּמְנַשֶּׁהand Manassehעוֹרְרָהstir upאֶת־גְּבוּרָתֶךָYour mightוּלְכָהand comeלִישֻׁעָתָהto save usלָּנוּ׃to us

   Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

   אֱלֹהִיםO Godהֲשִׁיבֵנוּrestore usוְהָאֵרand cause to shineפָּנֶיךָYour faceוְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃and we shall be saved

   Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

5. 5

   יְהֹוָהO LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodצְבָאוֹתof Hostsעַד־מָתַיhow longעָשַׁנְתָּwill You be angryבִּתְפִלַּתagainst the prayer ofעַמֶּךָ׃Your people

   O LORD God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

   הֶאֱכַלְתָּםYou feed them withלֶחֶםthe bread ofדִּמְעָהtearsוַתַּשְׁקֵמוֹand give them to drinkבִּדְמָעוֹתtearsשָׁלִישׁ׃in great measure

   Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

   תְּשִׂימֵנוּYou make usמָדוֹןa strifeלִשְׁכֵנֵינוּto our neighborsוְאֹיְבֵינוּand our enemiesיִלְעֲגוּ־לָמוֹ׃laugh among themselves

   Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

   אֱלֹהִיםO Godצְבָאוֹתof Hostsהֲשִׁיבֵנוּrestore usוְהָאֵרand cause to shineפָּנֶיךָYour faceוְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃and we shall be saved

   Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

   גֶּפֶןa vineמִמִּצְרַיִםout of EgyptתַּסִּיעַYou brought outתְּגָרֵשׁYou cast outגּוֹיִםthe nationsוַתִּטָּעֶהָ׃and you planted it

   Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

    פִּנִּיתָYou prepared roomלְפָנֶיהָbefore itוַתַּשְׁרֵשׁand it took deep rootשׇׁרָשֶׁיהָits rootsוַתְּמַלֵּא־אָרֶץ׃and it filled the land

    Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

    כׇּסּוּwere coveredהָרִיםthe mountainsצִלָּהּwith its shadowוַעֲנָפֶיהָand its boughs wereאַרְזֵי־אֵל׃like the goodly cedars

    The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

12. 12

    תְּשַׁלַּחshe sent outקְצִירֶהָits branchesעַד־יָםto the seaוְאֶל־נָהָרand to the riverיוֹנְקוֹתֶיהָ׃its young shoots

    She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

13. 13

    לָמָּהwhyפָּרַצְתָּhave You broken downגְדֵרֶיהָher hedgesוְאָרוּהָso that pluck herכׇּל־עֹבְרֵיall who pass byדָרֶךְ׃the way

    Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

14. 14

    יְכַרְסְמֶנָּהwastes itחֲזִירwild boarמִיָּעַרout of the forestוְזִיזand the wild beast ofשָׂדַיthe fieldיִרְעֶנָּה׃devours it

    The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

15. 15

    אֱלֹהִיםO Godצְבָאוֹתof Hostsשׁוּב־נָאreturn we beseech Youהַבֵּטlook downמִשָּׁמַיִםfrom heavenוּרְאֵהand beholdוּפְקֹדand visitגֶּפֶןvineזֹאת׃this

    Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

16. 16

    וְכַנָּהand the stockאֲשֶׁר־נָטְעָהwhich has plantedיְמִינֶךָYour right handוְעַל־בֵּןand upon the branchאִמַּצְתָּהYou made strongלָּךְ׃for Yourself

    And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

17. 17

    שְׂרֻפָהit is burnedבָאֵשׁin fireכְּסוּחָהit is cut downמִגַּעֲרַתat the rebuke ofפָּנֶיךָYour faceיֹאבֵדוּ׃they perish

    It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

18. 18

    תְּהִי־יָדְךָlet Your hand beעַל־אִישׁupon the man ofיְמִינֶךָYour right handעַל־בֶּן־אָדָםupon the son of manאִמַּצְתָּwhom You made strongלָּךְ׃for Yourself

    Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

19. 19

    וְלֹא־נָסוֹגso we will not turn backמִמֶּךָּfrom Youתְּחַיֵּנוּrevive usוּבְשִׁמְךָand upon Your nameנִקְרָא׃we will call

    So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

20. 20

    יְהֹוָהO LORDאֱלֹהִיםGodצְבָאוֹתof Hostsהֲשִׁיבֵנוּrestore usהָאֵרcause to shineפָּנֶיךָYour faceוְנִוָּשֵׁעָה׃and we shall be saved

    Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
