   מַשְׂכִּילmas/KILa maskilלְאָסָףle/A/SAFof Asaphהַאֲזִינָהha/a/ZI/nagive earעַמִּיam/MIO my peopleתּוֹרָתִיto/ra/TIto my teachingהַטּוּhat/TUinclineאׇזְנְכֶםoz/ne/KHEMyour earsלְאִמְרֵי־פִי׃le/im/RE-fito the words of my mouth

   Maschil of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

   אֶפְתְּחָהef/te/CHAI will openבְמָשָׁלve/ma/SHALin a parableפִּיpimy mouthאַבִּיעָהab/BI/aI will utterחִידוֹתchi/DOTdark sayingsמִנִּי־קֶדֶם׃min/NI-KE/demof old

   I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

   אֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichשָׁמַעְנוּsha/MA/nuwe heardוַנֵּדָעֵםvan/ne/da/EMand have knownוַאֲבוֹתֵינוּva/a/vo/TE/nuand our fathersסִפְּרוּ־לָנוּ׃sip/pe/RU-LA/nuhave told us

   Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

   לֹאlonotנְכַחֵדne/kha/CHEDwill we hideמִבְּנֵיהֶםmib/be/ne/HEMfrom their childrenלְדוֹרle/DORto the generationאַחֲרוֹןa/cha/RONto comeמְסַפְּרִיםme/sap/pe/RIMtellingתְּהִלּוֹתte/hil/LOTthe praises ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוֶעֱזוּזוֹve/e/zu/ZOand His strengthוְנִפְלְאֹתָיוve/nif/le/o/TAYVand His wondersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichעָשָׂה׃a/SAHe has done

   We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done.

   וַיָּקֶםvay/YA/kemHe establishedעֵדוּתe/DUTa testimonyבְּיַעֲקֹבbe/Ya/a/KOVin Jacobוְתוֹרָהve/to/RAand a lawשָׂםsamHe appointedבְּיִשְׂרָאֵלbe/Yis/ra/ELin Israelאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichצִוָּהtsiv/VAHe commandedאֶת־אֲבוֹתֵינוּet-a/vo/TE/nuour fathersלְהוֹדִיעָםle/ho/di/AMto make them knownלִבְנֵיהֶם׃liv/ne/HEMto their children

   For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:

   לְמַעַןle/MA/anso thatיֵדְעוּyed/Umay knowדּוֹרdorthe generationאַחֲרוֹןa/cha/RONto comeבָּנִיםba/NIMchildrenיִוָּלֵדוּyiv/va/LE/duyet to be bornיָקֻמוּya/KU/muwho would ariseוִיסַפְּרוּvi/sap/pe/RUand tellלִבְנֵיהֶם׃liv/ne/HEMto their children

   That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:

   וְיָשִׂימוּve/ya/SI/muand setבֵאלֹהִיםve/lo/HIMin Godכִּסְלָםkis/LAMtheir hopeוְלֹאve/LOand notיִשְׁכְּחוּyish/ke/CHUforgetמַעַלְלֵי־אֵלma/al/LE-elthe deeds of Godוּמִצְוֺתָיוu/mits/vo/TAYVand His commandmentsיִנְצֹרוּ׃yin/TSO/rukeep

   That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments:

8. 8

   וְלֹאve/LOand notיִהְיוּyih/YUbeכַּאֲבוֹתָםka/a/vo/TAMlike their fathersדּוֹרdora generationסוֹרֵרso/RERstubbornוּמֹרֶהu/mo/REand rebelliousדּוֹרdora generationלֹא־הֵכִיןlo-he/KHINthat did not make steadfastלִבּוֹlib/BOits heartוְלֹא־נֶאֶמְנָהve/LO-ne/em/NAand was not faithfulאֶת־אֵלet-elwith Godרוּחוֹ׃ru/CHOits spirit

   And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

   בְּנֵי־אֶפְרַיִםbe/NE-ef/RA/yimsons of Ephraimנוֹשְׁקֵיnosh/KEarmedרוֹמֵי־קָשֶׁתro/ME-KA/shetshooters of the bowהָפְכוּha/fe/KHUturned backבְּיוֹםbe/YOMin the day ofקְרָב׃ke/RAVbattle

   The children of Ephraim, being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

    לֹאlonotשָׁמְרוּsha/me/RUdid they keepבְּרִיתbe/RITthe covenant ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוּבְתוֹרָתוֹu/ve/to/ra/TOand in His lawמֵאֲנוּme/a/NUthey refusedלָלֶכֶת׃la/LE/khetto walk

    They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law;

11. 11

    וַיִּשְׁכְּחוּvay/yish/ke/CHUand they forgotעֲלִילוֹתָיוa/li/lo/TAYVHis deedsוְנִפְלְאוֹתָיוve/nif/le/o/TAYVand His wondersאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichהֶרְאָם׃her/AMHe had shown them

    And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them.

12. 12

    נֶגֶדNE/gedin the sight ofאֲבוֹתָםa/vo/TAMtheir fathersעָשָׂהa/SAHe didפֶלֶאFE/lewondersבְּאֶרֶץbe/E/retsin the land ofמִצְרַיִםMits/RA/yimEgyptשְׂדֵה־צֹעַן׃se/DE-TSO/anthe field of Zoan

    Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13. 13

    בָּקַעBA/kaHe dividedיָםyamthe seaוַיַּעֲבִירֵםvay/ya/a/vi/REMand made them pass throughוַיַּצֶּב־מַיִםvay/yats/TSEV-MA/yimand made the waters standכְּמוֹ־נֵד׃ke/MO-nedlike a heap

    He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as an heap.

14. 14

    וַיַּנְחֵםvay/yan/CHEMand He led themבֶּעָנָןbe/a/NANwith a cloudיוֹמָםyo/MAMby dayוְכׇל־הַלַּיְלָהve/KHOL-hal/LAY/laand all the nightבְּאוֹרbe/ORin the light ofאֵשׁ׃eshfire

    In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

15. 15

    יְבַקַּעye/vak/KAHe splitצֻרִיםtsu/RIMthe rocksבַּמִּדְבָּרbam/mid/BARin the wildernessוַיַּשְׁקְvay/YASHKand gave drinkכִּתְהֹמוֹתkit/ho/MOTas from the depthsרַבָּה׃rab/BAabundantly

    He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths.

16. 16

    וַיּוֹצִאvay/yo/TSIand He brought forthנוֹזְלִיםnoz/LIMstreamsמִסָּלַעmis/SA/laout of the rockוַיּוֹרֶדvay/YO/redand caused to run downכַּנְּהָרוֹתkan/ne/ha/ROTlike riversמָיִם׃MA/yimwater

    He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17. 17

    וַיּוֹסִיפוּvay/yo/SI/fuand they went onעוֹדodstillלַחֲטֹא־לוֹla/cha/TO-loto sin against Himלַמְרוֹתlam/ROTto rebel againstעֶלְיוֹןEl/YONthe Most Highבַּצִּיָּה׃bats/tsiy/YAin the desert

    And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the most High in the wilderness.

18. 18

    וַיְנַסּוּ־אֵלvay/nas/SU-eland they tested Godבִּלְבָבָםbil/va/VAMin their heartלִשְׁאׇל־אֹכֶלlish/OL-O/khelby asking foodלְנַפְשָׁם׃le/naf/SHAMfor their craving

    And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust.

19. 19

    וַיְדַבְּרוּvay/dab/be/RUand they spokeבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMagainst Godאָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidהֲיוּכַלha/YU/khalcanאֵלelGodלַעֲרֹךְla/a/ROKHprepareשֻׁלְחָןshul/CHANa tableבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?

20. 20

    הֵןhenbeholdהִכָּה־צוּרhik/KA-tsurHe struck the rockוַיָּזוּבוּvay/ya/ZU/vuand gushed outמַיִםMA/yimwaterוּנְחָלִיםu/ne/cha/LIMand torrentsיִשְׁטֹפוּyish/TO/fuoverflowedהֲגַם־לֶחֶםha/GAM-LE/chemcan bread alsoיוּכַלyu/KHALcan Heתֵּתtetto giveאִם־יָכִיןim-ya/KHINor will He provideשְׁאֵרshe/ERfleshלְעַמּוֹ׃le/am/MOto His people

    Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

21. 21

    לָכֵןla/KHENthereforeשָׁמַעsha/MAheardיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDוַיִּתְעַבָּרvay/yit/ab/BARand was furiousוְאֵשׁve/ESHand fireנִשְּׂקָהnis/se/KAwas kindledבְיַעֲקֹבve/Ya/a/KOVin Jacobוְגַם־אַףve/GAM-afand anger alsoעָלָהa/LAcame upבְיִשְׂרָאֵל׃ve/Yis/ra/ELin Israel

    Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

22. 22

    כִּיkibecauseלֹאlonotהֶאֱמִינוּhe/e/MI/nudid they believeבֵּאלֹהִיםbe/lo/HIMin Godוְלֹאve/LOand notבָטְחוּva/te/CHUdid they trustבִּישׁוּעָתוֹ׃bi/shu/a/TOin His salvation

    Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

23. 23

    וַיְצַוvay/TSAVyet He commandedשְׁחָקִיםshe/cha/KIMthe skiesמִמָּעַלmim/MA/alfrom aboveוְדַלְתֵיve/dal/TEand the doors ofשָׁמַיִםsha/MA/yimthe heavensפָּתָח׃pa/TACHHe opened

    Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,

24. 24

    וַיַּמְטֵרvay/yam/TERand He rained downעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themמָןmanmannaלֶאֱכֹלle/e/KHOLto eatוּדְגַן־שָׁמַיִםu/de/GAN-sha/MA/yimand the grain of heavenנָתַןna/TANHe gaveלָמוֹ׃LA/mothem

    And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven.

25. 25

    לֶחֶםLE/chemthe bread ofאַבִּירִיםab/bi/RIMthe mightyאָכַלa/KHALateאִישׁishmanצֵידָהtse/DAprovisionשָׁלַחsha/LACHHe sentלָהֶםla/HEMto themלָשֹׂבַע׃la/SO/vato the full

    Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full.

26. 26

    יַסַּעyas/SAHe caused to blowקָדִיםka/DIMan east windבַּשָּׁמָיִםbash/sha/MA/yimin the heavensוַיְנַהֵגvay/na/HEGand He droveבְּעֻזּוֹbe/uz/ZOby His powerתֵימָן׃te/MANthe south wind

    He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

27. 27

    וַיַּמְטֵרvay/yam/TERand He rained downעֲלֵיהֶםa/le/HEMupon themכֶּעָפָרke/a/FARlike dustשְׁאֵרshe/ERfleshוּכְחוֹלu/khe/CHOLand like the sand ofיַמִּיםyam/MIMthe seasעוֹףofbirdsכָּנָף׃ka/NAFwinged

    He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea:

28. 28

    וַיַּפֵּלvay/yap/PELand He let it fallבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revin the midst ofמַחֲנֵהוּma/cha/NE/hutheir campסָבִיבsa/VIVall aroundלְמִשְׁכְּנֹתָיו׃le/mish/ke/no/TAYVtheir dwellings

    And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, round about their habitations.

29. 29

    וַיֹּאכְלוּvay/yo/khe/LUand they ateוַיִּשְׂבְּעוּvay/yis/be/Uand they were satisfiedמְאֹדme/ODexceedinglyוְתַאֲוָתָםve/ta/a/va/TAMand their own desireיָבִאya/VIHe broughtלָהֶם׃la/HEMto them

    So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire;

30. 30

    לֹא־זָרוּlo-ZA/ruthey had not turnedמִתַּאֲוָתָםmit/ta/a/va/TAMfrom their cravingעוֹדodyetאׇכְלָםokh/LAMwhile their food wasבְּפִיהֶם׃be/fi/HEMstill in their mouths

    They were not estranged from their lust. But while their meat was yet in their mouths,

31. 31

    וְאַףve/AFand the anger ofאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodעָלָהa/LAcame upבָהֶםva/HEMagainst themוַיַּהֲרֹגvay/ya/ha/ROGand slewבְּמִשְׁמַנֵּיהֶםbe/mish/man/ne/HEMthe fattest of themוּבַחוּרֵיu/va/chu/REand the chosen men ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהִכְרִיעַ׃hikh/RI/aHe brought down

    The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

32. 32

    בְּכׇל־זֹאתbe/KHOL-zotfor all thisחָטְאוּ־עוֹדcha/te/U-odthey sinned stillוְלֹא־הֶאֱמִינוּve/LO-he/e/MI/nuand believed notבְּנִפְלְאוֹתָיו׃be/nif/le/o/TAYVin His wondrous works

    For all this they sinned still, and believed not for his wondrous works.

33. 33

    וַיְכַל־בַּהֶבֶלvay/KHAL-ba/HE/velso He ended in vanityיְמֵיהֶםye/me/HEMtheir daysוּשְׁנוֹתָםu/she/no/TAMand their yearsבַּבֶּהָלָה׃bab/be/ha/LAin terror

    Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.

34. 34

    אִם־הֲרָגָםim-ha/ra/GAMwhen He slew themוּדְרָשׁוּהוּu/de/ra/SHU/huthey sought Himוְשָׁבוּve/SHA/vuand they returnedוְשִׁחֲרוּ־אֵל׃ve/shi/cha/RU-eland sought God earnestly

    When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned and enquired early after God.

35. 35

    וַיִּזְכְּרוּvay/yiz/ke/RUand they rememberedכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםki-e/lo/HIMthat God wasצוּרָםtsu/RAMtheir rockוְאֵלve/ELand GodעֶלְיוֹןEl/YONthe Most Highגֹּאֲלָם׃Go/a/LAMtheir Redeemer

    And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.

36. 36

    וַיְפַתּוּהוּvay/fat/TU/hubut they flattered Himבְּפִיהֶםbe/fi/HEMwith their mouthוּבִלְשׁוֹנָםu/vil/sho/NAMand with their tongueיְכַזְּבוּ־לוֹ׃ye/khaz/ze/VU-lothey lied to Him

    Nevertheless they did flatter him with their mouth, and they lied unto him with their tongues.

37. 37

    וְלִבָּםve/lib/BAMfor their heartלֹא־נָכוֹןlo-na/KHONwas not steadfastעִמּוֹim/MOwith Himוְלֹאve/LOand notנֶאֶמְנוּne/em/NUwere they faithfulבִּבְרִיתוֹ׃biv/ri/TOin His covenant

    For their heart was not right with him, neither were they stedfast in his covenant.

38. 38

    וְהוּאve/HUbut Heרַחוּםra/CHUMcompassionateיְכַפֵּרye/khap/PERforgivesעָוֺןa/VONiniquityוְלֹא־יַשְׁחִיתve/LO-yash/CHITand destroyed them notוְהִרְבָּהve/hir/BAand many timesלְהָשִׁיבle/ha/SHIVHe turned awayאַפּוֹap/POHis angerוְלֹא־יָעִירve/LO-ya/IRand did not stir upכׇּל־חֲמָתוֹ׃kol-cha/ma/TOall His fury

    But he, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned he his anger away, and did not stir up all his wrath.

39. 39

    וַיִּזְכֹּרvay/yiz/KORfor He rememberedכִּי־בָשָׂרki-va/SARthat fleshהֵמָּהHEM/mathey wereרוּחַRU/acha breathהוֹלֵךְho/LEKHthat goesוְלֹאve/LOand notיָשׁוּב׃ya/SHUVcomes again

    For he remembered that they were but flesh; a wind that passeth away, and cometh not again.

40. 40

    כַּמָּהkam/MAhow oftenיַמְרוּהוּyam/RU/hudid they rebel against Himבַמִּדְבָּרvam/mid/BARin the wildernessיַעֲצִיבוּהוּya/a/tsi/VU/huand grieved Himבִּישִׁימוֹן׃bi/shi/MONin the desert

    How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert!

41. 41

    וַיָּשׁוּבוּvay/ya/SHU/vuand they turned backוַיְנַסּוּvay/nas/SUthey testedאֵלelGodוּקְדוֹשׁu/Ke/DOSHand the Holy One ofיִשְׂרָאֵלYis/ra/ELIsraelהִתְווּ׃hit/VUthey pained

    Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

42. 42

    לֹא־זָכְרוּlo-za/khe/RUthey did not rememberאֶת־יָדוֹet-ya/DOHis handיוֹםyomthe dayאֲשֶׁר־פָּדָםa/SHER-pa/DAMwhen He redeemed themמִנִּי־צָר׃min/NI-tsarfrom the adversary

    They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy.

43. 43

    אֲשֶׁר־שָׂםa/SHER-samwhen He setבְּמִצְרַיִםbe/Mits/RA/yimin Egyptאֹתוֹתָיוo/to/TAYVHis signsוּמוֹפְתָיוu/mof/TAYVand His wondersבִּשְׂדֵה־צֹעַן׃bis/DE-TSO/anin the field of Zoan

    How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

44. 44

    וַיַּהֲפֹךְvay/ya/ha/FOKHand He turnedלְדָםle/DAMinto bloodיְאֹרֵיהֶםye/o/re/HEMtheir riversוְנֹזְלֵיהֶםve/noz/le/HEMand their streamsבַּל־יִשְׁתָּיוּן׃bal-yish/ta/YUNthat they could not drink

    And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink.

45. 45

    יְשַׁלַּחye/shal/LACHHe sentבָּהֶםba/HEMamong themעָרֹבa/ROVswarmsוַיֹּאכְלֵםvay/yo/khe/LEMwhich devoured themוּצְפַרְדֵּעַu/tse/far/DE/aand frogsוַתַּשְׁחִיתֵם׃vat/tash/chi/TEMwhich destroyed them

    He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46. 46

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENHe gave alsoלֶחָסִילle/cha/SILto the caterpillarיְבוּלָםye/vu/LAMtheir increaseוִיגִיעָםvi/gi/AMand their laborלָאַרְבֶּה׃la/ar/BEto the locust

    He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

47. 47

    יַהֲרֹגya/ha/ROGHe destroyedבַּבָּרָדbab/ba/RADwith hailגַּפְנָםgaf/NAMtheir vinesוְשִׁקְמוֹתָםve/shik/mo/TAMand their sycamoresבַּחֲנָמַל׃ba/cha/na/MALwith frost

    He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost.

48. 48

    וַיַּסְגֵּרvay/yas/GERHe gave overלַבָּרָדlab/ba/RADto the hailבְּעִירָםbe/i/RAMtheir cattleוּמִקְנֵיהֶםu/mik/ne/HEMand their flocksלָרְשָׁפִים׃la/re/sha/FIMto bolts of fire

    He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49. 49

    יְשַׁלַּח־בָּםye/shal/LACH-bamHe cast upon themחֲרוֹןcha/RONthe fierceness ofאַפּוֹap/POHis angerעֶבְרָהev/RAwrathוָזַעַםva/ZA/amand indignationוְצָרָהve/tsa/RAand troubleמִשְׁלַחַתmish/LA/chata band ofמַלְאֲכֵיmal/a/KHEangels ofרָעִים׃ra/IMevil

    He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

50. 50

    יְפַלֵּסye/fal/LESHe made levelנָתִיבna/TIVa pathלְאַפּוֹle/ap/POfor His angerלֹא־חָשַׂךְlo-cha/SAKHHe spared notמִמָּוֶתmim/MA/vetfrom deathנַפְשָׁםnaf/SHAMtheir soulוְחַיָּתָםve/chay/ya/TAMand their lifeלַדֶּבֶרlad/DE/verto the pestilenceהִסְגִּיר׃his/GIRbut gave over

    He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence;

51. 51

    וַיַּךְvay/YAKHand He struckכׇּל־בְּכוֹרkol-be/KHORall the firstbornבְּמִצְרָיִםbe/Mits/RA/yimin Egyptרֵאשִׁיתre/SHITthe first ofאוֹנִיםo/NIMtheir strengthבְּאׇהֳלֵי־חָם׃be/O/ho/LE-chamin the tents of Ham

    And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham:

52. 52

    וַיַּסַּעvay/yas/SAand He led outכַּצֹּאןkats/TSONlike sheepעַמּוֹam/MOHis peopleוַיְנַהֲגֵםvay/na/ha/GEMand guided themכַּעֵדֶרka/E/derlike a flockבַּמִּדְבָּר׃bam/mid/BARin the wilderness

    But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53. 53

    וַיַּנְחֵםvay/yan/CHEMand He led them onלָבֶטַחla/VE/tachin safetyוְלֹאve/LOand notפָחָדוּfa/CHA/dudid they fearוְאֶת־אוֹיְבֵיהֶםve/ET-oy/ve/HEMand their enemiesכִּסָּהkis/SAcoveredהַיָּם׃hay/YAMthe sea

    And he led them on safely, so that they feared not: but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54. 54

    וַיְבִיאֵםvay/vi/EMand He brought themאֶל־גְּבוּלel-ge/VULto the border ofקׇדְשׁוֹkod/SHOHis holy placeהַר־זֶהhar-zethis mountainקָנְתָהka/ne/TAhad acquiredיְמִינוֹ׃ye/mi/NOHis right hand

    And he brought them to the border of his sanctuary, even to this mountain, which his right hand had purchased.

55. 55

    וַיְגָרֶשׁvay/GA/reshand He drove outמִפְּנֵיהֶםmip/pe/ne/HEMfrom before themגּוֹיִםgo/YIMthe nationsוַיַּפִּילֵםvay/yap/pi/LEMand allotted themבְּחֶבֶלbe/CHE/velby a measuring line forנַחֲלָהna/cha/LAan inheritanceוַיַּשְׁכֵּןvay/yash/KENand made to dwellבְּאׇהֳלֵיהֶםbe/o/ho/le/HEMin their tentsשִׁבְטֵיshiv/TEthe tribes ofיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

    He cast out the heathen also before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56. 56

    וַיְנַסּוּvay/nas/SUyet they testedוַיַּמְרוּvay/yam/RUand rebelled againstאֶת־אֱלֹהִיםet-e/lo/HIMGodעֶלְיוֹןEl/YONthe Most Highוְעֵדוֹתָיוve/e/do/TAYVand His testimoniesלֹאlonotשָׁמָרוּ׃sha/MA/rudid they keep

    Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies:

57. 57

    וַיִּסֹּגוּvay/yis/SO/guand they turned backוַיִּבְגְּדוּvay/yiv/ge/DUand dealt unfaithfullyכַּאֲבוֹתָםka/a/vo/TAMlike their fathersנֶהְפְּכוּneh/pe/KHUthey turned asideכְּקֶשֶׁתke/KE/shetlike a bowרְמִיָּה׃re/miy/YAdeceitful

    But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58. 58

    וַיַּכְעִיסוּהוּvay/yakh/i/SU/hufor they provoked Him to angerבְּבָמוֹתָםbe/va/mo/TAMwith their high placesוּבִפְסִילֵיהֶםu/vif/si/le/HEMand with their carved imagesיַקְנִיאוּהוּ׃yak/ni/U/huthey moved Him to jealousy

    For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.

59. 59

    שָׁמַעsha/MAheardאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMGodוַיִּתְעַבָּרvay/yit/ab/BARand was furiousוַיִּמְאַסvay/yim/ASand rejectedמְאֹדme/ODgreatlyבְּיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Be/yis/ra/ELIsrael

    When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

60. 60

    וַיִּטֹּשׁvay/yit/TOSHand He forsookמִשְׁכַּןmish/KANthe tabernacle ofשִׁלוֹShi/LOShilohאֹהֶלO/helthe tentשִׁכֵּןshik/KENHe had set upבָּאָדָם׃ba/a/DAMamong men

    So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61. 61

    וַיִּתֵּןvay/yit/TENand deliveredלַשְּׁבִיlash/she/VIinto the captivityעֻזּוֹuz/ZOHis strengthוְתִפְאַרְתּוֹve/tif/ar/TOand His gloryבְיַד־צָר׃ve/YAD-tsarinto the hand of the adversary

    And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand.

62. 62

    וַיַּסְגֵּרvay/yas/GERHe gave over alsoלַחֶרֶבla/CHE/revto the swordעַמּוֹam/MOHis peopleוּבְנַחֲלָתוֹu/ve/na/cha/la/TOand with His inheritanceהִתְעַבָּר׃hit/ab/BARHe was furious

    He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance.

63. 63

    בַּחוּרָיוba/chu/RAYVHis young menאָכְלָה־אֵשׁa/khe/LA-eshfire consumedוּבְתוּלֹתָיוu/ve/tu/lo/TAYVand His maidensלֹאlonotהוּלָּלוּ׃hul/LA/luhad wedding songs

    The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

64. 64

    כֹּהֲנָיוko/ha/NAYVHis priestsבַּחֶרֶבba/CHE/revwith the swordנָפָלוּna/FA/lufellוְאַלְמְנֹתָיוve/al/me/no/TAYVand His widowsלֹאlonotתִבְכֶּינָה׃tiv/KE/nawept

    Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation.

65. 65

    וַיִּקַץvay/yi/KATSthen awokeכְּיָשֵׁןke/ya/SHENas one out of sleepאֲדֹנָיa/do/NAYthe Lordכְּגִבּוֹרke/gib/BORlike a mighty manמִתְרוֹנֵןmit/ro/NENshoutingמִיָּיִן׃miy/YA/yinby reason of wine

    Then the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.

66. 66

    וַיַּךְ־צָרָיוvay/YAKH-tsa/RAYVand He struck His adversariesאָחוֹרa/CHORbackחֶרְפַּתcher/PATa reproachעוֹלָםo/LAMperpetualנָתַןna/TANHe putלָמוֹ׃LA/moupon them

    And he smote his enemies in the hinder parts: he put them to a perpetual reproach.

67. 67

    וַיִּמְאַסvay/yim/ASand He rejectedבְּאֹהֶלbe/O/helthe tent ofיוֹסֵףYo/SEFJosephוּבְשֵׁבֶטu/ve/SHE/vetand the tribe ofאֶפְרַיִםEf/RA/yimEphraimלֹאlonotבָחָר׃va/CHARdid He choose

    Moreover he refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

68. 68

    וַיִּבְחַרvay/yiv/CHARbut He choseאֶת־שֵׁבֶטet-SHE/vetthe tribe ofיְהוּדָהYe/hu/DAJudahאֶת־הַרet-HarMountצִיּוֹןTsiy/YONZionאֲשֶׁרa/SHERwhichאָהֵב׃a/HEVHe loved

    But chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which he loved.

69. 69

    וַיִּבֶןvay/YI/venand He builtכְּמוֹ־רָמִיםke/MO-ra/MIMlike the heightsמִקְדָּשׁוֹmik/da/SHOHis sanctuaryכְּאֶרֶץke/E/retslike the earthיְסָדָהּye/sa/DAwhich He has foundedלְעוֹלָם׃le/o/LAMforever

    And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.

70. 70

    וַיִּבְחַרvay/yiv/CHARHe chose alsoבְּדָוִדBe/da/VIDDavidעַבְדּוֹav/DOHis servantוַיִּקָּחֵהוּvay/yik/ka/CHE/huand took himמִמִּכְלְאֹתmim/mikh/le/OTfrom the folds ofצֹאן׃tsonthe sheep

    He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds:

71. 71

    מֵאַחַרme/a/CHARfrom followingעָלוֹתa/LOTthe nursing ewesהֱבִיאוֹhe/vi/OHe brought himלִרְעוֹתlir/OTto shepherdבְּיַעֲקֹבBe/ya/a/KOVJacobעַמּוֹam/MOHis peopleוּבְיִשְׂרָאֵלu/ve/Yis/ra/ELand Israelנַחֲלָתוֹ׃na/cha/la/TOHis inheritance

    From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance.

72. 72

    וַיִּרְעֵםvay/yir/EMso he shepherded themכְּתֹםke/TOMaccording to the integrity ofלְבָבוֹle/va/VOhis heartוּבִתְבוּנוֹתu/vit/vu/NOTand with the skill ofכַּפָּיוkap/PAYVhis handsיַנְחֵם׃yan/CHEMhe guided them

    So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.
