   Maschil of Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?

   Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.

   הָרִימָהha/RI/malift upפְעָמֶיךָfe/a/me/KHAYour stepsלְמַשֻּׁאוֹתle/mash/shu/OTto the ruinsנֶצַחNE/tsachperpetualכׇּל־הֵרַעkol-he/RAall the evil done byאוֹיֵבo/YEVthe enemyבַּקֹּדֶשׁ׃bak/KO/deshin the sanctuary

   Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.

   שָׁאֲגוּsha/a/GUthey roaredצֹרְרֶיךָtsor/RE/khaYour enemiesבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revin the midst ofמוֹעֲדֶךָmo/a/DE/khaYour meeting placeשָׂמוּSA/muthey set upאוֹתֹתָםo/to/TAMtheir signsאֹתוֹת׃o/TOTas signs

   Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.

   יִוָּדַעyiv/va/DAit was knownכְּמֵבִיאke/me/VIas one who liftsלְמָעְלָהle/MA/laupwardבִּסְבׇךְ־עֵץbis/VOKH-etsin a thicket of treesקַרְדֻּמּוֹת׃kar/dum/MOTaxes

   A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.

   (ועת)vt[וְעַתָּה]ve/at/TAand nowפִּתּוּחֶיהָpit/tu/CHE/haits carvingsיָּחַדYA/chadaltogetherבְּכַשִּׁילbe/khash/SHILwith axeוְכֵילַפּוֹתve/khe/lap/POTand hammersיַהֲלֹמוּן׃ya/ha/lo/MUNthey break down

   But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.

   שִׁלְחוּshil/CHUthey have sentבָאֵשׁva/ESHon fireמִקְדָּשֶׁךָmik/da/SHE/khaYour sanctuaryלָאָרֶץla/A/retsto the groundחִלְּלוּchil/le/LUthey have profanedמִשְׁכַּן־שְׁמֶךָ׃mish/KAN-she/ME/khathe dwelling place of Your name

   They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.

   אָמְרוּa/me/RUthey saidבְלִבָּםve/lib/BAMin their heartנִינָםni/NAMlet us destroy themיָחַדYA/chadtogetherשָׂרְפוּsa/re/FUthey have burned upכׇל־מוֹעֲדֵי־אֵלkhol-mo/a/DE-elall the meeting places of Godבָּאָרֶץ׃ba/A/retsin the land

   They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.

   אוֹתֹתֵינוּo/to/TE/nuour signsלֹא־רָאִינוּlo-ra/I/nuwe do not seeאֵין־עוֹדen-odthere is no moreנָבִיאna/VIa prophetוְלֹא־אִתָּנוּve/LO-it/TA/nuand not with usיֹדֵעַyo/DE/aany who knowsעַד־מָה׃ad-mahow long

   We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.

    עַד־מָתַיad-ma/TAYhow longאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMO Godיְחָרֶףye/CHA/refshall reproachצָרtsarthe adversaryיְנָאֵץye/na/ETSshall blasphemeאוֹיֵבo/YEVthe enemyשִׁמְךָshim/KHAYour nameלָנֶצַח׃la/NE/tsachforever

    O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?

11. 11

    לָמָּהLAM/mawhyתָשִׁיבta/SHIVdo You withdrawיָדְךָya/de/KHAYour handוִימִינֶךָvi/mi/NE/khaand Your right handמִקֶּרֶבmik/KE/revfrom the midst of[חֵיקְךָ]che/ke/KHAYour bosomכַלֵּה׃khal/LEdestroy them

    Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.

    וֵאלֹהִיםve/lo/HIMyet God isמַלְכִּיMal/KImy Kingמִקֶּדֶםmik/KE/demfrom of oldפֹּעֵלpo/ELworkingיְשׁוּעוֹתye/shu/OTsalvation inבְּקֶרֶבbe/KE/revthe midst ofהָאָרֶץ׃ha/A/retsthe earth

    For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.

    אַתָּהat/TAYouפוֹרַרְתָּfo/RAR/taYou splitבְעׇזְּךָve/oz/ze/KHAby Your strengthיָםyamthe seaשִׁבַּרְתָּshib/BAR/taYou brokeרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe heads ofתַנִּינִיםtan/ni/NIMsea monstersעַל־הַמָּיִם׃al-ham/MA/yimupon the waters

    Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.

    אַתָּהat/TAYouרִצַּצְתָּrits/tsats/TAYou crushedרָאשֵׁיra/SHEthe heads ofלִוְיָתָןLiv/ya/TANLeviathanתִּתְּנֶנּוּtit/te/NEN/nuYou gave himמַאֲכָלma/a/KHALas foodלְעָםle/AMfor the peopleלְצִיִּים׃le/tsiy/YIMof the desert

    Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

    אַתָּהat/TAYouבָקַעְתָּva/ka/TAYou split openמַעְיָןma/YANspringוָנָחַלva/NA/chaland torrentאַתָּהat/TAYouהוֹבַשְׁתָּho/VASH/taYou dried upנַהֲרוֹתna/ha/ROTriversאֵיתָן׃e/TANever-flowing

    Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.

    לְךָle/KHAYours isיוֹםyomdayאַף־לְךָaf-le/KHAYours also isלָיְלָהLAY/lathe nightאַתָּהat/TAYouהֲכִינוֹתָha/khi/NO/tahave preparedמָאוֹרma/ORthe luminaryוָשָׁמֶשׁ׃va/SHA/meshand the sun

    The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.

    אַתָּהat/TAYouהִצַּבְתָּhits/TSAV/tahave setכׇּל־גְּבוּלוֹתkol-ge/vu/LOTall the borders ofאָרֶץA/retsthe earthקַיִץKA/yitssummerוָחֹרֶףva/CHO/refand winterאַתָּהat/TAYouיְצַרְתָּם׃ye/tsar/TAMhave made them

    Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.

18. 18

    זְכׇר־זֹאתze/KHOR-zotremember thisאוֹיֵבo/YEVthe enemyחֵרֵףche/REFhas reproachedיְהֹוָהAdonaiO LORDוְעַםve/AMand a peopleנָבָלna/VALfoolishנִאֲצוּni/a/TSUhave blasphemedשְׁמֶךָ׃she/ME/khaYour name

    Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.

19. 19

    אַל־תִּתֵּןal-tit/TENdo not deliverלְחַיַּתle/chay/YATto the wild beastנֶפֶשׁNE/feshthe soul ofתּוֹרֶךָto/RE/khaYour turtledoveחַיַּתchay/YATthe life ofעֲנִיֶּיךָa/niy/YE/khaYour poorאַל־תִּשְׁכַּחal-tish/KACHforget notלָנֶצַח׃la/NE/tsachforever

    O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.

20. 20

    הַבֵּטhab/BEThave regardלַבְּרִיתlab/be/RITto the covenantכִּיkiforמָלְאוּma/le/Uare full ofמַחֲשַׁכֵּי־אֶרֶץma/cha/shak/KE-E/retsthe dark places of the earthנְאוֹתne/OTthe habitations ofחָמָס׃cha/MASviolence

    Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

21. 21

    אַל־יָשֹׁבal-ya/SHOVlet not returnדַּךְdakhthe oppressedנִכְלָםnikh/LAMdisgracedעָנִיa/NIthe poorוְאֶבְיוֹןve/ev/YONand needyיְהַלְלוּye/hal/LUlet praiseשְׁמֶךָ׃she/ME/khaYour name

    O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.

22. 22

    קוּמָהku/MAariseאֱלֹהִיםe/lo/HIMO Godרִיבָהri/VApleadרִיבֶךָri/VE/khaYour own causeזְכֹרze/KHORrememberחֶרְפָּתְךָcher/pa/te/KHAYour reproachמִנִּי־נָבָלmin/NI-na/VALby the foolish manכׇּל־הַיּוֹם׃kol-hay/YOMall the day

    Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.

    אַל־תִּשְׁכַּחal-tish/KACHdo not forgetקוֹלkolthe voice ofצֹרְרֶיךָtsor/RE/khaYour enemiesשְׁאוֹןshe/ONthe tumult ofקָמֶיךָka/ME/khathose who rise against Youעֹלֶהo/LEascendsתָמִיד׃ta/MIDcontinually

    Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.
