1. 1

   מִזְמוֹרa psalmלְאָסָףof Asaphאַךְtrulyטוֹבis goodלְיִשְׂרָאֵלto IsraelאֱלֹהִיםGodלְבָרֵיto the pure ofלֵבָב׃heart

   A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

2. 2

   וַאֲנִיand Iכִּמְעַטalmost(נטוי)[נָטָיוּ]had turned asideרַגְלָיmy feetכְּאַיִןwell-nigh(שפכה)[שֻׁפְּכוּ]had slippedאֲשֻׁרָי׃my steps

   But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

   כִּי־קִנֵּאתִיfor I was enviousבַּהוֹלְלִיםat the arrogantשְׁלוֹםthe prosperity ofרְשָׁעִיםthe wickedאֶרְאֶה׃when I saw

   For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

   כִּיforאֵיןthere is noחַרְצֻבּוֹתare pangsלְמוֹתָםin their deathוּבָרִיאand is firmאוּלָם׃their body

   For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.

5. 5

   בַּעֲמַלin the trouble ofאֱנוֹשׁmanאֵינֵמוֹthey are notוְעִם־אָדָםand with manלֹאnotיְנֻגָּעוּ׃are they plagued

   They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

6. 6

   לָכֵןthereforeעֲנָקַתְמוֹis a chain about themגַאֲוָהprideיַעֲטָף־שִׁיתcovers them as a garmentחָמָסviolenceלָמוֹ׃of theirs

   Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment.

   יָצָאstands outמֵחֵלֶבfrom fatnessעֵינֵמוֹtheir eyesעָבְרוּthey overflowמַשְׂכִּיּוֹתthe imaginations ofלֵבָב׃their heart

   Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.

8. 8

   יָמִיקוּthey scoffוִידַבְּרוּand speakבְרָעwickedly ofעֹשֶׁקoppressionמִמָּרוֹםloftilyיְדַבֵּרוּ׃they speak

   They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.

9. 9

   שַׁתּוּthey setבַשָּׁמַיִםagainst the heavensפִּיהֶםtheir mouthוּלְשׁוֹנָםand their tongueתִּהֲלַךְstruts throughבָּאָרֶץ׃in the land

   They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

    לָכֵןtherefore(ישיב)[יָשׁוּב]turnsעַמּוֹHis peopleהֲלֹםhitherוּמֵיand waters ofמָלֵאa full cupיִמָּצוּare drainedלָמוֹ׃by them

    Therefore his people return hither: and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11. 11

    וְאָמְרוּand they sayאֵיכָהhowיָדַע־אֵלdoes God knowוְיֵשׁand is thereדֵּעָהthe knowledge ofבְעֶלְיוֹן׃in the Most High

    And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12. 12

    הִנֵּה־אֵלֶּהbehold these areרְשָׁעִיםthe wickedוְשַׁלְוֵיand always at easeעוֹלָםforeverהִשְׂגּוּ־חָיִל׃they increase in riches

    Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

13. 13

    אַךְ־רִיקsurely in vainזִכִּיתִיI have kept pureלְבָבִיmy heartוָאֶרְחַץand I have washedבְּנִקָּיוֹןin innocenceכַּפָּי׃my hands

    Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency.

14. 14

    וָאֱהִיand I wasנָגוּעַplaguedכׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the dayוְתוֹכַחְתִּיand my chasteningלַבְּקָרִים׃was every morning

    For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

15. 15

    אִם־אָמַרְתִּיif I saidאֲסַפְּרָהI will speakכְמוֹthusהִנֵּהbeholdדוֹרthe generation ofבָּנֶיךָYour childrenבָגָדְתִּי׃I should have betrayed

    If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children.

16. 16

    וָאֲחַשְּׁבָהwhen I thoughtלָדַעַתto knowזֹאתthisעָמָלit was too painful(היא)[הוּא]itבְעֵינָי׃in my eyes

    When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;

17. 17

    עַד־אָבוֹאuntil I wentאֶל־מִקְדְּשֵׁי־אֵלto the sanctuaries of Godאָבִינָהthen I understoodלְאַחֲרִיתָם׃their end

    Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

18. 18

    אַךְsurelyבַּחֲלָקוֹתin slippery placesתָּשִׁיתYou setלָמוֹfor themהִפַּלְתָּםYou cast them downלְמַשּׁוּאוֹת׃to ruin

    Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction.

19. 19

    אֵיךְhowהָיוּare they broughtלְשַׁמָּהinto desolationכְרָגַעin a momentסָפוּthey are utterly consumedתַמּוּthey are endedמִן־בַּלָּהוֹת׃with terrors

    How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

20. 20

    כַּחֲלוֹםas a dreamמֵהָקִיץwhen one awakesאֲדֹנָיO Lordבָּעִירwhen You arouse Yourselfצַלְמָםtheir imageתִּבְזֶה׃You will despise

    As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

21. 21

    כִּיbecauseיִתְחַמֵּץwas embitteredלְבָבִיmy heartוְכִלְיוֹתַיand in my reinsאֶשְׁתּוֹנָן׃I was pricked

    Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins.

22. 22

    וַאֲנִי־בַעַרso brutish was Iוְלֹאand notאֵדָעdid I knowבְּהֵמוֹתas a beastהָיִיתִיI wasעִמָּךְ׃before You

    So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

23. 23

    וַאֲנִיand Iתָמִידcontinuallyעִמָּךְwith youאָחַזְתָּYou have heldבְּיַד־יְמִינִי׃my right hand

    Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.

24. 24

    בַּעֲצָתְךָwith Your counselתַנְחֵנִיYou will guide meוְאַחַרand afterwardכָּבוֹדgloryתִּקָּחֵנִי׃You will receive me

    Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

25. 25

    מִי־לִיwhom have Iבַשָּׁמָיִםin the heavensוְעִמְּךָand besides Youלֹא־חָפַצְתִּיthere is none I desireבָאָרֶץ׃upon earth

    Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

26. 26

    כָּלָהfailsשְׁאֵרִיmy fleshוּלְבָבִיand my heartצוּר־לְבָבִיis the strength of my heartוְחֶלְקִיand my portionאֱלֹהִיםGodלְעוֹלָם׃forever

    My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

27. 27

    כִּי־הִנֵּהbecause beholdרְחֵקֶיךָthose far from Youיֹאבֵדוּshall perishהִצְמַתָּהYou destroyכׇּל־זוֹנֶהeveryone who goes astrayמִמֶּךָּ׃from You

    For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.

28. 28

    וַאֲנִיand Iקִרְבַתthe nearness ofאֱלֹהִיםGodלִי־טוֹבis good for meשַׁתִּיI have madeבַּאדֹנָיin the LordיֱהֹוִהGODמַחְסִיmy refugeלְסַפֵּרto tellכׇּל־מַלְאֲכוֹתֶיךָ׃all Your works

    But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
