1. 1

   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianאַל־תַּשְׁחֵתAl-tashhethלְדָוִדof Davidמִכְתָּםa miktamבִּשְׁלֹחַwhen sentשָׁאוּלSaulוַיִּשְׁמְרוּand they watchedאֶת־הַבַּיִתthe houseלַהֲמִיתוֹ׃to kill him

   To the chief Musician, Al-taschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.

2. 2

   הַצִּילֵנִיdeliver meמֵאֹיְבַיfrom my enemiesאֱלֹהָיO my Godמִמִּתְקוֹמְמַיfrom those who rise up against meתְּשַׂגְּבֵנִי׃set me on high

   Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

   הַצִּילֵנִיdeliver meמִפֹּעֲלֵיfrom the workers ofאָוֶןiniquityוּמֵאַנְשֵׁיand from men ofדָמִיםbloodהוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃save me

   Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

   כִּיbecauseהִנֵּהbeholdאָרְבוּthey lie in waitלְנַפְשִׁיfor my soulיָגוּרוּthey gatherעָלַיagainst meעַזִּיםfierce menלֹא־פִשְׁעִיnot for my transgressionוְלֹא־חַטָּאתִיnor for my sinיְהֹוָה׃O LORD

   For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

   בְּלִי־עָוֺןfor no fault of mineיְרֻצוּןthey runוְיִכּוֹנָנוּand prepare themselvesעוּרָהawakeלִקְרָאתִיto help meוּרְאֵה׃and behold

   They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.

6. 6

   וְאַתָּהYou thereforeיְהֹוָה־אֱלֹהִיםO LORD Godצְבָאוֹתof Hostsאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelהָקִיצָהawakeלִפְקֹדto punishכׇּל־הַגּוֹיִםall the nationsאַל־תָּחֹןbe not gracious toכׇּל־בֹּגְדֵיany traitors ofאָוֶןiniquityסֶלָה׃Selah

   Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

   יָשׁוּבוּthey returnלָעֶרֶבat eveningיֶהֱמוּthey howlכַכָּלֶבlike a dogוִיסוֹבְבוּand go round aboutעִיר׃the city

   They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

8. 8

   הִנֵּהbeholdיַבִּיעוּןthey belch outבְּפִיהֶםwith their mouthחֲרָבוֹתswords areבְּשִׂפְתוֹתֵיהֶםin their lipsכִּי־מִיfor whoשֹׁמֵעַ׃hears

   Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

9. 9

   וְאַתָּהand youיְהֹוָהO LORDתִּשְׂחַק־לָמוֹshall laugh at themתִּלְעַגYou shall have in derisionלְכׇל־גּוֹיִם׃all the nations

   But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

10. 10

    עֻזּוֹhis strengthאֵלֶיךָupon Youאֶשְׁמֹרָהwill I waitכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםbecause Godמִשְׂגַּבִּי׃my fortress

    Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

11. 11

    אֱלֹהֵיthe God of(חסדו)[חַסְדִּי]my mercyיְקַדְּמֵנִיshall come to meet meאֱלֹהִיםGodיַרְאֵנִיshall let me gazeבְשֹׁרְרָי׃upon my enemies

    The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.

12. 12

    אַל־תַּהַרְגֵםdo not kill themפֶּן־יִשְׁכְּחוּlest they forgetעַמִּיmy peopleהֲנִיעֵמוֹscatter themבְחֵילְךָby Your powerוְהוֹרִידֵמוֹand bring them downמָגִנֵּנוּO our shieldאֲדֹנָי׃O Lord

    Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

13. 13

    חַטַּאת־פִּימוֹfor the sin of their mouthדְּבַר־שְׂפָתֵימוֹthe words of their lipsוְיִלָּכְדוּlet them even be takenבִגְאוֹנָםin their prideוּמֵאָלָהand for cursingוּמִכַּחַשׁand lyingיְסַפֵּרוּ׃which they speak

    For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

14. 14

    כַּלֵּהconsume themבְחֵמָהin wrathכַּלֵּהconsume themוְאֵינֵמוֹthat they may be no moreוְיֵדְעוּand let them knowכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםbecause Godמֹשֵׁלrulesבְּיַעֲקֹבin Jacobלְאַפְסֵיto the ends ofהָאָרֶץthe earthסֶלָה׃Selah

    Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

15. 15

    וְיָשֻׁבוּand let them returnלָעֶרֶבat eveningיֶהֱמוּlet them howlכַכָּלֶבlike a dogוִיסוֹבְבוּand go round aboutעִיר׃the city

    And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

16. 16

    הֵמָּהlet them[יְנִיעוּן]wander up and downלֶאֱכֹלfor foodאִם־לֹאif notיִשְׂבְּעוּthey have their fillוַיָּלִינוּ׃and murmur

    Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.

17. 17

    וַאֲנִיand IאָשִׁירI will singעֻזֶּךָof Your powerוַאֲרַנֵּןyea I will sing aloud ofלַבֹּקֶרin the morningחַסְדֶּךָYour mercyכִּי־הָיִיתָfor You have beenמִשְׂגָּבa defenseלִיfor meוּמָנוֹסand refugeבְּיוֹםin the day ofצַר־לִי׃my distress

    But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

18. 18

    עֻזִּיO my strengthאֵלֶיךָto YouאֲזַמֵּרָהI will sing praisesכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםbecause Godמִשְׂגַּבִּיmy fortressאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofחַסְדִּי׃of my mercy

    Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
