   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianבִּנְגִינֹתwith stringed instrumentsמַשְׂכִּילa maskilלְדָוִד׃of David

   To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, A Psalm of David.

2. 2

   הַאֲזִינָהgive earאֱלֹהִיםO Godתְּפִלָּתִיmy prayerוְאַל־תִּתְעַלַּםand hide not Yourselfמִתְּחִנָּתִי׃from my supplication

   Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.

   הַקְשִׁיבָהattendלִּיto meוַעֲנֵנִיand answer meאָרִידI sobבְּשִׂיחִיin my complaintוְאָהִימָה׃and make moan

   Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;

   מִקּוֹלat the voice ofאוֹיֵבthe enemyמִפְּנֵיbecause ofעָקַתthe oppression ofרָשָׁעthe wickedכִּי־יָמִיטוּfor they castעָלַיupon meאָוֶןiniquityוּבְאַףand in wrathיִשְׂטְמוּנִי׃they persecute me

   Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

   לִבִּיmy heartיָחִילis sore painedבְּקִרְבִּיwithin meוְאֵימוֹתand the terrors ofמָוֶתdeathנָפְלוּare fallenעָלָי׃upon me

   My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.

6. 6

   יִרְאָהfearfulnessוָרַעַדand tremblingיָבֹאare comeבִיupon meוַתְּכַסֵּנִיand has overwhelmed meפַּלָּצוּת׃horror

   Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.

7. 7

   וָאֹמַרand I saidמִי־יִתֶּן־לִיOh that I hadאֵבֶרwingsכַּיּוֹנָהlike the doveאָעוּפָהI would fly awayוְאֶשְׁכֹּנָה׃and be at rest

   And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.

   הִנֵּהbeholdאַרְחִיקI would wander far offנְדֹדin flightאָלִיןI would remainבַּמִּדְבָּרin the wildernessסֶלָה׃Selah

   Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. Selah.

9. 9

   אָחִישָׁהI would hastenמִפְלָטto a refugeלִיfor myselfמֵרוּחַfrom the windסֹעָהstormyמִסָּעַר׃from the tempest

   I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

10. 10

    בַּלַּעdestroyאֲדֹנָיO Lordפַּלַּגdivideלְשׁוֹנָםtheir tonguesכִּי־רָאִיתִיbecause I sawחָמָסviolenceוְרִיבand strifeבָּעִיר׃in the city

    Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

11. 11

    יוֹמָםby dayוָלַיְלָהand nightיְסוֹבְבֻהָthey go about itעַל־חוֹמֹתֶיהָupon its wallsוְאָוֶןand mischiefוְעָמָלand troubleבְּקִרְבָּהּ׃are in the midst of it

    Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof: mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.

12. 12

    הַוּוֹתwickedness isבְּקִרְבָּהּin the midst of itוְלֹא־יָמִישׁand departs notמֵרְחֹבָהּfrom her streetsתֹּךְoppressionוּמִרְמָה׃and fraud

    Wickedness is in the midst thereof: deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

13. 13

    כִּיforלֹא־אוֹיֵבit was not an enemyיְחָרְפֵנִיwho taunted meוְאֶשָּׂאthen I could have borne itלֹא־מְשַׂנְאִיnor was it one who hated meעָלַיupon meהִגְדִּילwho magnified himselfוְאֶסָּתֵרthen I would have hid myselfמִמֶּנּוּ׃from him

    For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

14. 14

    וְאַתָּהbut it was youאֱנוֹשׁa manכְּעֶרְכִּיmy equalאַלּוּפִיmy companionוּמְיֻדָּעִי׃and my familiar friend

    But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.

15. 15

    אֲשֶׁרwhichיַחְדָּוtogetherנַמְתִּיקwe took sweetסוֹדcounselבְּבֵיתin the house ofאֱלֹהִיםGodנְהַלֵּךְwe walkedבְּרָגֶשׁ׃in company

    We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

16. 16

    (ישימות)[יַשִּׁיlet comeמָוֶת]deathעָלֵימוֹon themיֵרְדוּlet them go downשְׁאוֹלinto Sheolחַיִּיםaliveכִּי־רָעוֹתfor wickedness isבִּמְגוּרָםin their dwellingבְּקִרְבָּם׃among them

    Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

17. 17

    אֲנִיas for meאֶל־אֱלֹהִיםunto GodאֶקְרָאI will callוַיהֹוָהand the LORDיוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃shall save me

    As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me.

18. 18

    עֶרֶבeveningוָבֹקֶרand morningוְצׇהֳרַיִםand at noonאָשִׂיחָהI prayוְאֶהֱמֶהand cry aloudוַיִּשְׁמַעand He hearsקוֹלִי׃my voice

    Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

19. 19

    פָּדָהHe has deliveredבְשָׁלוֹםin peaceנַפְשִׁיmy soulמִקְּרׇב־לִיfrom the battle against meכִּי־בְרַבִּיםfor many wereהָיוּthey wereעִמָּדִי׃striving with me

    He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.

20. 20

    יִשְׁמַעshall hearאֵלGodוְיַעֲנֵםand afflict themוְיֹשֵׁבeven He who is enthroned fromקֶדֶםof oldסֶלָהSelahאֲשֶׁרwhichאֵיןthere is noחֲלִיפוֹתchangesלָמוֹfor themוְלֹאand notיָרְאוּdo they fearאֱלֹהִים׃God

    God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.

21. 21

    שָׁלַחhe has put forthיָדָיוhis handsבִּשְׁלֹמָיוagainst those at peace with himחִלֵּלhe has brokenבְּרִיתוֹ׃his covenant

    He hath put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him: he hath broken his covenant.

22. 22

    חָלְקוּwere smoothמַחְמָאֹתas butterפִּיוhis mouthוּקְרָב־לִבּוֹbut war was in his heartרַכּוּwere softerדְבָרָיוhis wordsמִשֶּׁמֶןthan oilוְהֵמָּהyet they wereפְתִחוֹת׃drawn swords

    The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

23. 23

    הַשְׁלֵךְcastעַל־יְהֹוָהupon the LORDיְהָבְךָyour burdenוְהוּאand Heיְכַלְכְּלֶךָshall sustain youלֹא־יִתֵּןHe shall never sufferלְעוֹלָםforeverמוֹטto be movedלַצַּדִּיק׃the righteous

    Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

24. 24

    וְאַתָּהbut YouאֱלֹהִיםO Godתּוֹרִדֵםshall bring them downלִבְאֵרto the pit ofשַׁחַתdestructionאַנְשֵׁיthe men ofדָמִיםbloodוּמִרְמָהand deceitלֹא־יֶחֱצוּshall not live out halfיְמֵיהֶםtheir daysוַאֲנִיand Iאֶבְטַח־בָּךְ׃will trust in You

    But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.
