   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianעַל־מָחֲלַתupon Mahalathמַשְׂכִּילa maskilלְדָוִד׃of David

   To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, A Psalm of David.

2. 2

   אָמַרsaidנָבָלthe foolבְּלִבּוֹin his heartאֵיןthere is noאֱלֹהִיםGodהִשְׁחִיתוּthey are corruptוְהִתְעִיבוּand they have done abominablyעָוֶלiniquityאֵיןthere is noneעֹשֵׂה־טוֹב׃who does good

   The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

   אֱלֹהִיםGodמִשָּׁמַיִםfrom heavenהִשְׁקִיףlooks downעַל־בְּנֵי־אָדָםupon the sons of menלִרְאוֹתto seeהֲיֵשׁis thereמַשְׂכִּילany who understandsדֹּרֵשׁwho seeksאֶת־אֱלֹהִים׃God

   God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.

   כֻּלּוֹevery one of themסָגhas turned backיַחְדָּוtogetherנֶאֱלָחוּthey have become foulאֵיןthere is noneעֹשֵׂה־טוֹבwho does goodאֵיןthere is noneגַּם־אֶחָד׃not even one

   Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

   הֲלֹאdo notיָדְעוּthey knowפֹּעֲלֵיworkers ofאָוֶןiniquityאֹכְלֵיwho eat upעַמִּיmy peopleאָכְלוּthey eatלֶחֶםbreadאֱלֹהִיםGodלֹאnotקָרָאוּ׃they call

   Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.

   שָׁםthereפָּחֲדוּthey were in fearפַחַדa fearלֹא־הָיָהwhere was noפָחַדfearכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםbecause Godפִּזַּרhas scatteredעַצְמוֹתthe bones ofחֹנָךְhim who encamps against youהֱבִשֹׁתָהyou have put them to shameכִּי־אֱלֹהִיםbecause Godמְאָסָם׃has rejected them

   There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.

   מִי־יִתֵּןwould thatמִצִּיּוֹןout of Zionיְשֻׁעוֹתthe salvation ofיִשְׂרָאֵלIsraelבְּשׁוּבwhen brings backאֱלֹהִיםGodשְׁבוּתthe captivity ofעַמּוֹhis peopleיָגֵלshall rejoiceיַעֲקֹבJacobיִשְׂמַחshall be gladיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Israel

   Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
