   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianמִזְמוֹרa psalmלְדָוִד׃of David

   To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David,

2. 2

   בְּבוֹא־אֵלָיוwhen came to himנָתָןNathanהַנָּבִיאthe prophetכַּאֲשֶׁר־בָּאafter he had gone inאֶל־בַּת־שָׁבַע׃to Bath-sheba

   when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.

   חׇנֵּנִיbe gracious to meאֱלֹהִיםO Godכְּחַסְדֶּךָaccording to Your mercyכְּרֹבaccording to the multitude ofרַחֲמֶיךָYour tender merciesמְחֵהblot outפְשָׁעָי׃my transgressions

   Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

   (הרבה)[הֶרֶב]thoroughlyכַּבְּסֵנִיwash meמֵעֲוֺנִיfrom my iniquityוּמֵחַטָּאתִיand from my sinטַהֲרֵנִי׃cleanse me

   Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

   כִּי־פְשָׁעַיfor my transgressionsאֲנִיIאֵדָעacknowledgeוְחַטָּאתִיand my sinנֶגְדִּיis before meתָמִיד׃ever

   For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

6. 6

   לְךָagainst YouלְבַדְּךָYou aloneחָטָאתִיhave I sinnedוְהָרַעand that which is evilבְּעֵינֶיךָin Your sightעָשִׂיתִיI have doneלְמַעַןso thatתִּצְדַּקYou are justifiedבְּדׇבְרֶךָin Your sentenceתִּזְכֶּהand clearבְשׇׁפְטֶךָ׃in Your judgment

   Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

   הֵן־בְּעָווֹןbehold in iniquityחוֹלָלְתִּיI was shapedוּבְחֵטְאand in sinיֶחֱמַתְנִיdid conceive meאִמִּי׃my mother

   Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

8. 8

   הֵן־אֱמֶתbehold truthחָפַצְתָּYou desireבַטֻּחוֹתin the inward partsוּבְסָתֻםand in the hidden partחׇכְמָהwisdomתוֹדִיעֵנִי׃You make me know

   Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

   תְּחַטְּאֵנִיpurge meבְאֵזוֹבwith hyssopוְאֶטְהָרand I shall be cleanתְּכַבְּסֵנִיwash meוּמִשֶּׁלֶגand than snowאַלְבִּין׃I shall be whiter

   Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

10. 10

    תַּשְׁמִיעֵנִיmake me to hearשָׂשׂוֹןjoyוְשִׂמְחָהand gladnessתָּגֵלְנָהmay rejoiceעֲצָמוֹתthe bonesדִּכִּיתָ׃which You have broken

    Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

11. 11

    הַסְתֵּרhideפָּנֶיךָYour faceמֵחֲטָאָיfrom my sinsוְכׇל־עֲוֺנֹתַיand all my iniquitiesמְחֵה׃blot out

    Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

12. 12

    לֵבa heartטָהוֹרcleanבְּרָא־לִיcreate in meאֱלֹהִיםO Godוְרוּחַand spirit ofנָכוֹןsteadfastחַדֵּשׁrenewבְּקִרְבִּי׃within me

    Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

13. 13

    אַל־תַּשְׁלִיכֵנִיdo not cast me awayמִלְּפָנֶיךָfrom Your presenceוְרוּחַand spirit ofקׇדְשְׁךָYour holinessאַל־תִּקַּחtake notמִמֶּנִּי׃from me

    Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

14. 14

    הָשִׁיבָהrestoreלִּיto meשְׂשׂוֹןthe joy ofיִשְׁעֶךָYour salvationוְרוּחַand spirit ofנְדִיבָהwillingתִסְמְכֵנִי׃uphold me

    Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

15. 15

    אֲלַמְּדָהthen I will teachפֹשְׁעִיםtransgressorsדְּרָכֶיךָYour waysוְחַטָּאִיםand sinnersאֵלֶיךָto Youיָשׁוּבוּ׃shall return

    Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

16. 16

    הַצִּילֵנִיdeliver meמִדָּמִיםfrom bloodguiltאֱלֹהִיםO Godאֱלֹהֵיthe God ofתְשׁוּעָתִיmy salvationתְּרַנֵּןshall sing aloud ofלְשׁוֹנִיmy tongueצִדְקָתֶךָ׃Your righteousness

    Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

17. 17

    אֲדֹנָיO Lordשְׂפָתַיmy lipsתִּפְתָּחopenוּפִיand my mouthיַגִּידshall declareתְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃Your praise

    O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

18. 18

    כִּיforלֹא־תַחְפֹּץYou desire notזֶבַחsacrificeוְאֶתֵּנָהelse would I give itעוֹלָהburnt offeringלֹאnotתִרְצֶה׃do You delight in

    For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

19. 19

    זִבְחֵיthe sacrifices ofאֱלֹהִיםGodרוּחַare a spiritנִשְׁבָּרָהbrokenלֵב־נִשְׁבָּרa broken heartוְנִדְכֶּהand contriteאֱלֹהִיםO Godלֹאnotתִבְזֶה׃will You despise

    The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

20. 20

    הֵיטִיבָהdo goodבִרְצוֹנְךָin Your favorאֶת־צִיּוֹןZionתִּבְנֶהbuild Youחוֹמוֹתthe walls ofיְרוּשָׁלָ͏ִם׃Jerusalem

    Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

21. 21

    אָזthenתַּחְפֹּץshall You be pleased withזִבְחֵי־צֶדֶקsacrifices of righteousnessעוֹלָהburnt offeringוְכָלִילand the whole offeringאָזthenיַעֲלוּshall they offerעַל־מִזְבַּחֲךָupon your altarפָרִים׃bullocks

    Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
