   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianלִבְנֵי־קֹרַחunto the sons of Korahמִזְמוֹר׃a psalm

   To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah.

2. 2

   שִׁמְעוּ־זֹאתhear thisכׇּל־הָעַמִּיםall you peoplesהַאֲזִינוּgive earכׇּל־יֹשְׁבֵיall inhabitants ofחָלֶד׃the world

   Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

   גַּם־בְּנֵיalso sons ofאָדָםmanגַּם־בְּנֵי־אִישׁalso sons of menיַחַדtogetherעָשִׁירrichוְאֶבְיוֹן׃and poor

   Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

4. 4

   פִּיmy mouthיְדַבֵּרspeaksחׇכְמוֹתwisdomוְהָגוּתand the meditation ofלִבִּיmy heartתְבוּנוֹת׃shall be understanding

   My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

5. 5

   אַטֶּהI will inclineלְמָשָׁלto a parableאׇזְנִיmy earאֶפְתַּחI will openבְּכִנּוֹרupon the lyreחִידָתִי׃my riddle

   I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

6. 6

   לָמָּהwhyאִירָאshall I fearבִּימֵיin the days ofרָעevilעֲוֺןthe iniquity ofעֲקֵבַיmy supplantersיְסוּבֵּנִי׃compasses me about

   Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?

   הַבֹּטְחִיםthose who trustעַל־חֵילָםin their wealthוּבְרֹבand in the multitude ofעׇשְׁרָםtheir richesיִתְהַלָּלוּ׃they boast themselves

   They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

8. 8

   אָחa brotherלֹא־פָדֹהcan by no meansיִפְדֶּהredeemאִישׁcan a manלֹא־יִתֵּןnor giveלֵאלֹהִיםto Godכׇּפְרוֹ׃a ransom for him

   None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

9. 9

   וְיֵקַרfor is too costlyפִּדְיוֹןthe ransom ofנַפְשָׁםtheir soulוְחָדַלand he must let it aloneלְעוֹלָם׃forever

   (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

10. 10

    וִיחִי־עוֹדthat he should still liveלָנֶצַחforeverלֹאnotיִרְאֶהhe shall seeהַשָּׁחַת׃the pit

    That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

11. 11

    כִּיthatיִרְאֶהhe seesחֲכָמִיםwise menיָמוּתוּshall dieיַחַדtogetherכְּסִילthe foolוָבַעַרand the brutishיֹאבֵדוּshall perishוְעָזְבוּand leaveלַאֲחֵרִיםto othersחֵילָם׃their wealth

    For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

12. 12

    קִרְבָּםtheir inward thought isבָּתֵּימוֹtheir houses areלְעוֹלָםforeverמִשְׁכְּנֹתָםtheir dwelling placesלְדוֹרto generationוָדֹרto generationקָרְאוּthey callבִשְׁמוֹתָםafter their own namesעֲלֵיonאֲדָמוֹת׃their lands

    Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

13. 13

    וְאָדָםbut manבִּיקָרin honorבַּל־יָלִיןabides notנִמְשַׁלhe is likeכַּבְּהֵמוֹתthe beastsנִדְמוּ׃that perish

    Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

14. 14

    זֶהthisדַרְכָּםtheir wayכֵּסֶלis their follyלָמוֹfor themוְאַחֲרֵיהֶםand their posterityבְּפִיהֶםin their sayingsיִרְצוּapproveסֶלָה׃Selah

    This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

15. 15

    כַּצֹּאןlike the sheepלִשְׁאוֹלin Sheolשַׁתּוּthey have been appointedמָוֶתdeathיִרְעֵםshall be their shepherdוַיִּרְדּוּ־בָםand shall have dominion over themיְשָׁרִיםthe uprightלַבֹּקֶרin the morning[וְצוּרָם]and their Rockלְבַלּוֹתshall waste away inשְׁאוֹלSheolמִזְּבֻלfar from their dwellingלוֹ׃for it

    Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

16. 16

    אַךְ־אֱלֹהִיםbut Godיִפְדֶּהhe will ransomנַפְשִׁיmy soulמִיַּד־שְׁאוֹלfrom the power of SheolכִּיforיִקָּחֵנִיHe shall receive meסֶלָה׃Selah

    But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

17. 17

    אַל־תִּירָאbe not afraidכִּי־יַעֲשִׁרwhen one is made richאִישׁa manכִּי־יִרְבֶּהwhen increasesכְּבוֹדthe glory ofבֵּיתוֹ׃his house

    Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;

18. 18

    כִּיforלֹאnotבְמוֹתוֹat his deathיִקַּחshall he carryהַכֹּלeverythingלֹא־יֵרֵדshall not descendאַחֲרָיוafter himכְּבוֹדוֹ׃his glory

    For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

19. 19

    כִּי־נַפְשׁוֹthough his soulבְּחַיָּיוin his lifeיְבָרֵךְhe blessesוְיוֹדֻךָand men praise youכִּי־תֵיטִיבwhen you do wellלָךְ׃for yourself

    Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

20. 20

    תָּבוֹאit shall goעַד־דּוֹרto the generation ofאֲבוֹתָיוhis fathersעַד־נֵצַחfor everלֹאnotיִרְאוּ־אוֹר׃shall they see light

    He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

21. 21

    אָדָםman that isבִּיקָרin honorוְלֹאand notיָבִיןunderstandsנִמְשַׁלis likeכַּבְּהֵמוֹתthe beastsנִדְמוּ׃that perish

    Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
