   לַמְנַצֵּחַto the chief musicianלִבְנֵי־קֹרַחunto the sons of Korahמַשְׂכִּיל׃a maskil

   To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, Maschil.

2. 2

   אֱלֹהִיםO Godבְּאׇזְנֵינוּin our earsשָׁמַעְנוּwe heardאֲבוֹתֵינוּour fathersסִפְּרוּ־לָנוּhave told usפֹּעַלthe work ofפָּעַלְתָּYou didבִימֵיהֶםin their daysבִּימֵיin the days ofקֶדֶם׃of old

   We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

   אַתָּהYouיָדְךָwith Your handגּוֹיִםthe nationsהוֹרַשְׁתָּYou drove outוַתִּטָּעֵםand You planted themתָּרַעYou afflictedלְאֻמִּיםthe peoplesוַתְּשַׁלְּחֵם׃and You cast them out

   How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

   כִּיbecauseלֹאnotבְחַרְבָּםby their swordיָרְשׁוּdid they possessאָרֶץthe landוּזְרוֹעָםand their armלֹא־הוֹשִׁיעָהdid not saveלָּמוֹthemכִּי־יְמִינְךָbut Your right handוּזְרוֹעֲךָand Your armוְאוֹרand the light ofפָּנֶיךָYour faceכִּיbecauseרְצִיתָם׃You favored them

   For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

   אַתָּה־הוּאYou areמַלְכִּיmy KingאֱלֹהִיםO Godצַוֵּהcommandיְשׁוּעוֹתdeliverances forיַעֲקֹב׃Jacob

   Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

6. 6

   בְּךָin Youצָרֵינוּour enemiesנְנַגֵּחַwe will push downבְּשִׁמְךָin Your nameנָבוּסwe will tread downקָמֵינוּ׃those who rise up against us

   Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

7. 7

   כִּיforלֹאnotבְקַשְׁתִּיin my bowאֶבְטָחI trustוְחַרְבִּיand my swordלֹאnotתוֹשִׁיעֵנִי׃shall it save me

   For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

8. 8

   כִּיbecauseהוֹשַׁעְתָּנוּYou have saved usמִצָּרֵינוּfrom our foesוּמְשַׂנְאֵינוּand those who hate usהֱבִישׁוֹתָ׃You have put to shame

   But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

9. 9

   בֵּאלֹהִיםin Godהִלַּלְנוּwe have gloriedכׇל־הַיּוֹםall the dayוְשִׁמְךָand Your nameלְעוֹלָםforeverנוֹדֶהwe praiseסֶלָה׃Selah

   In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.

10. 10

    אַף־זָנַחְתָּyet You have cast offוַתַּכְלִימֵנוּand put us to shameוְלֹא־תֵצֵאand You go not forthבְּצִבְאוֹתֵינוּ׃with our armies

    But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.

11. 11

    תְּשִׁיבֵנוּYou make us turn backאָחוֹרbackמִנִּי־צָרfrom the enemyוּמְשַׂנְאֵינוּand those who hate usשָׁסוּtake plunderלָמוֹ׃for themselves

    Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves.

12. 12

    תִּתְּנֵנוּYou have given usכְּצֹאןlike sheep forמַאֲכׇלeatingוּבַגּוֹיִםand among the nationsזֵרִיתָנוּ׃You have scattered us

    Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen.

13. 13

    תִּמְכֹּר־עַמְּךָYou sell Your peopleבְלֹא־הוֹןfor no wealthוְלֹא־רִבִּיתָand have not increasedבִּמְחִירֵיהֶם׃by their price

    Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price.

14. 14

    תְּשִׂימֵנוּYou make usחֶרְפָּהa reproachלִשְׁכֵנֵינוּto our neighborsלַעַגa scornוָקֶלֶסand a derisionלִסְבִיבוֹתֵינוּ׃to those around us

    Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us.

15. 15

    תְּשִׂימֵנוּYou make usמָשָׁלa bywordבַּגּוֹיִםamong the nationsמְנוֹד־רֹאשׁa shaking of the headבַּלְאֻמִּים׃among the peoples

    Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people.

16. 16

    כׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the dayכְּלִמָּתִיmy confusionנֶגְדִּיis before meוּבֹשֶׁתand the shame ofפָּנַיmy faceכִּסָּתְנִי׃it has covered me

    My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me,

17. 17

    מִקּוֹלfor the voice ofמְחָרֵףhim who tauntsוּמְגַדֵּףand blasphemesמִפְּנֵיbecause ofאוֹיֵבthe enemyוּמִתְנַקֵּם׃and the avenger

    For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger.

18. 18

    כׇּל־זֹאתall thisבָּאַתְנוּhas come upon usוְלֹאand notשְׁכַחֲנוּךָhave we forgotten Youוְלֹא־שִׁקַּרְנוּnor have we been falseבִּבְרִיתֶךָ׃to Your covenant

    All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

19. 19

    לֹא־נָסוֹגis not turned backאָחוֹרbackלִבֵּנוּour heartוַתֵּטnor have declinedאֲשֻׁרֵינוּour stepsמִנִּיfromאׇרְחֶךָ׃Your way

    Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;

20. 20

    כִּיbecauseדִכִּיתָנוּYou have sore broken usבִּמְקוֹםin the place ofתַּנִּיםjackalsוַתְּכַסand coveredעָלֵינוּover usבְצַלְמָוֶת׃with the shadow of death

    Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

21. 21

    אִם־שָׁכַחְנוּif we have forgottenשֵׁםthe name ofאֱלֹהֵינוּour Godוַנִּפְרֹשׂor stretched outכַּפֵּינוּour handsלְאֵלto a godזָר׃strange

    If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

22. 22

    הֲלֹאwould notאֱלֹהִיםGodיַחֲקׇר־זֹאתsearch this outכִּי־הוּאfor HeיֹדֵעַHe knowsתַּעֲלֻמוֹתthe secrets ofלֵב׃the heart

    Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

23. 23

    כִּי־עָלֶיךָbut for Your sakeהֹרַגְנוּare we killedכׇל־הַיּוֹםall the dayנֶחְשַׁבְנוּwe are reckonedכְּצֹאןas sheep forטִבְחָה׃the slaughter

    Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

24. 24

    עוּרָהawakeלָמָּהwhyתִישַׁןdo You sleepאֲדֹנָיO Lordהָקִיצָהariseאַל־תִּזְנַחcast us not offלָנֶצַח׃forever

    Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.

25. 25

    לָמָּה־פָנֶיךָwhy Your faceתַסְתִּירdo You hideתִּשְׁכַּחand forgetעׇנְיֵנוּour afflictionוְלַחֲצֵנוּ׃and our oppression

    Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

26. 26

    כִּיforשָׁחָהis bowed downלֶעָפָרto the dustנַפְשֵׁנוּour soulדָּבְקָהcleavesלָאָרֶץto the earthבִּטְנֵנוּ׃our belly

    For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth.

27. 27

    קוּמָהariseעֶזְרָתָהfor helpלָּנוּto usוּפְדֵנוּand redeem usלְמַעַןfor the sake ofחַסְדֶּךָ׃Your mercy

    Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies' sake.
