1. 1

   לְדָוִדof DavidרִיבָהcontendיְהֹוָהO LORDאֶת־יְרִיבַיwith those who contend with meלְחַםfightאֶת־לֹחֲמָי׃those who fight with me

   A Psalm of David. Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

2. 2

   הַחֲזֵקtake hold ofמָגֵןa shieldוְצִנָּהand bucklerוְקוּמָהand ariseבְּעֶזְרָתִי׃for my help

   Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

3. 3

   וְהָרֵקand draw outחֲנִיתthe spearוּסְגֹרand battle axeלִקְרַאתto meetרֹדְפָיmy pursuersאֱמֹרsayלְנַפְשִׁיto my soulיְשֻׁעָתֵךְyour salvationאָנִי׃I am

   Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

   יֵבֹשׁוּlet be ashamedוְיִכָּלְמוּand put to shameמְבַקְשֵׁיwho seekנַפְשִׁיmy soulיִסֹּגוּmay they be turned backאָחוֹרbackוְיַחְפְּרוּand brought to confusionחֹשְׁבֵיthose who plotרָעָתִי׃my harm

   Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.

   יִהְיוּshall beכְּמֹץlike chaffלִפְנֵי־רוּחַbefore the windוּמַלְאַךְand angel ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDדּוֹחֶה׃thrusting them

   Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

6. 6

   יְהִי־דַרְכָּםlet their way beחֹשֶׁךְdarknessוַחֲלַקְלַקֹּתand slipperyוּמַלְאַךְand angel ofיְהֹוָהthe LORDרֹדְפָם׃pursuing them

   Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.

7. 7

   כִּי־חִנָּםfor without causeטָמְנוּ־לִיthey have hidden for meשַׁחַתa pitרִשְׁתָּםtheir netחִנָּםwithout causeחָפְרוּthey have dugלְנַפְשִׁי׃for my soul

   For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

8. 8

   תְּבוֹאֵהוּmay it come to himשׁוֹאָהdestructionלֹא־יֵדָעunawaresוְרִשְׁתּוֹand his netאֲשֶׁר־טָמַןwhich he has hiddenתִּלְכְּדוֹlet it catch himבְּשׁוֹאָהinto ruinיִפׇּל־בָּהּ׃let him fall in it

   Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

9. 9

   וְנַפְשִׁיand my soulתָּגִילshall be joyfulבַּיהֹוָהin the LORDתָּשִׂישׂit shall rejoiceבִּישׁוּעָתוֹ׃in His salvation

   And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.

10. 10

    כׇּל־עַצְמוֹתַיall my bonesתֹּאמַרְנָהshall sayיְהֹוָהO LORDמִי־כָמוֹךָwho is like Youמַצִּילwho deliversעָנִיthe poorמֵחָזָקfrom him too strongמִמֶּנּוּfrom himוְעָנִיand the poorוְאֶבְיוֹןand the needyמִגֹּזְלוֹ׃from one who robs him

    All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

11. 11

    יְקוּמוּןthere rise upעֵדֵיwitnesses ofחָמָסviolenceאֲשֶׁרwhichלֹא־יָדַעְתִּיI know notיִשְׁאָלוּנִי׃they ask me

    False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.

12. 12

    יְשַׁלְּמוּנִיthey repay meרָעָהevilתַּחַתforטוֹבָהgoodשְׁכוֹלbereavementלְנַפְשִׁי׃to my soul

    They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.

13. 13

    וַאֲנִיand Iבַּחֲלוֹתָםwhen they were sickלְבוּשִׁיmy clothingשָׂקsackclothעִנֵּיתִיI afflictedבַצּוֹםwith fastingנַפְשִׁיmy soulוּתְפִלָּתִיand my prayerעַל־חֵיקִיupon my bosomתָשׁוּב׃may it return

    But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

14. 14

    כְּרֵעַ־כְּאָחas for a friend as a brotherלִיto meהִתְהַלָּכְתִּיI went aboutכַּאֲבֶל־אֵםas one who mourns for his motherקֹדֵרin mourningשַׁחוֹתִי׃I bowed down

    I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.

15. 15

    וּבְצַלְעִיand at my stumblingשָׂמְחוּthey rejoicedוְנֶאֱסָפוּand gathered togetherנֶאֶסְפוּthey gatheredעָלַיupon meנֵכִיםwretchesוְלֹאand notיָדַעְתִּיI knewקָרְעוּthey toreוְלֹא־דָמּוּ׃and ceased not

    But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:

16. 16

    בְּחַנְפֵיlike profaneלַעֲגֵיthe mockers ofמָעוֹגa feastחָרֹקthey gnashעָלַיagainst meשִׁנֵּימוֹ׃their teeth

    With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

17. 17

    אֲדֹנָיO Lordכַּמָּהhow longתִרְאֶהwill You look onהָשִׁיבָהrescueנַפְשִׁיmy soulמִשֹּׁאֵיהֶםfrom their destructionsמִכְּפִירִיםfrom the lionsיְחִידָתִי׃my only life

    Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.

18. 18

    אוֹדְךָI will praise Youבְּקָהָלin the congregationרָבgreatבְּעַםamong a peopleעָצוּםnumerousאֲהַלְלֶךָּ׃I will give You thanks

    I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.

19. 19

    אַל־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִיlet them not rejoice over meאֹיְבַיmy enemiesשֶׁקֶרwrongfullyשֹׂנְאַיthose who hate meחִנָּםwithout causeיִקְרְצוּ־עָיִן׃let them wink the eye

    Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

20. 20

    כִּיforלֹאnotשָׁלוֹםpeaceיְדַבֵּרוּdo they speakוְעַלbut againstרִגְעֵי־אֶרֶץthe quiet of the landדִּבְרֵיthe words ofמִרְמוֹתdeceitsיַחֲשֹׁבוּן׃they devise

    For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.

21. 21

    וַיַּרְחִיבוּand they have opened wideעָלַיupon meפִּיהֶםtheir mouthאָמְרוּthey saidהֶאָחaha!הֶאָחaha!רָאֲתָהhas seenעֵינֵנוּ׃our eye

    Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.

22. 22

    רָאִיתָהYou have seenיְהֹוָהO LORDאַל־תֶּחֱרַשׁdo not be deafאֲדֹנָיO Lordאַל־תִּרְחַקdo not be farמִמֶּנִּי׃from me

    This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.

23. 23

    הָעִירָהrouse Yourselfוְהָקִיצָהand awakeלְמִשְׁפָּטִיfor my judgmentאֱלֹהַיmy Godוַאדֹנָיand my Lordלְרִיבִי׃for my cause

    Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.

24. 24

    שׇׁפְטֵנִיvindicate meכְצִדְקְךָaccording to Your righteousnessיְהֹוָהO LORDאֱלֹהָיmy Godוְאַל־יִשְׂמְחוּ־לִי׃and let them not rejoice over me

    Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.

25. 25

    אַל־יֹאמְרוּlet them not sayבְלִבָּםin their heartהֶאָחaha!נַפְשֵׁנוּour desireאַל־יֹאמְרוּlet them not sayבִּלַּעֲנוּהוּ׃we have swallowed him

    Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

26. 26

    יֵבֹשׁוּlet be ashamedוְיַחְפְּרוּand brought to confusionיַחְדָּוtogetherשְׂמֵחֵיthose who rejoice atרָעָתִיmy harmיִלְבְּשׁוּ־בֹשֶׁתlet them be clothed with shameוּכְלִמָּהand dishonorהַמַּגְדִּילִיםthose who magnify themselvesעָלָי׃against me

    Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.

27. 27

    יָרֹנּוּlet them shout for joyוְיִשְׂמְחוּand be gladחֲפֵצֵיthose who favorצִדְקִיmy righteous causeוְיֹאמְרוּand let them sayתָמִידcontinuallyיִגְדַּלlet be magnifiedיְהֹוָהthe LORDהֶחָפֵץwho delights inשְׁלוֹםthe welfare ofעַבְדּוֹ׃His servant

    Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

28. 28

    וּלְשׁוֹנִיand my tongueתֶּהְגֶּהshall speak ofצִדְקֶךָYour righteousnessכׇּל־הַיּוֹםall the dayתְּהִלָּתֶךָ׃Your praise

    And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
