   שִׁירshira songהַמַּעֲלוֹתham/ma/a/LOTof ascentsלְדָוִדle/Da/VIDof Davidלוּלֵיlu/LEif notיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשֶׁהָיָהshe/ha/YAwho wasלָנוּLA/nufor usיֹאמַר־נָאyo/MAR-nalet now sayיִשְׂרָאֵל׃Yis/ra/ELIsrael

   A Song of degrees of David. If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

   לוּלֵיlu/LEif notיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשֶׁהָיָהshe/ha/YAwho wasלָנוּLA/nufor usבְּקוּםbe/KUMwhen rose upעָלֵינוּa/LE/nuagainst usאָדָם׃a/DAMman

   If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

   אֲזַיa/ZAYthenחַיִּיםchay/YIMaliveבְּלָעוּנוּbe/la/U/nuthey would have swallowed usבַּחֲרוֹתba/cha/ROTwhen was kindledאַפָּםap/PAMtheir wrathבָּנוּ׃BA/nuagainst us

   Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

   אֲזַיa/ZAYthenהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimthe watersשְׁטָפוּנוּshe/ta/FU/nuwould have swept us awayנַחְלָהnach/LAthe streamעָבַרa/VARwould have goneעַל־נַפְשֵׁנוּ׃al-naf/SHE/nuover our soul

   Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

   אֲזַיa/ZAYthenעָבַרa/VARwould have goneעַל־נַפְשֵׁנוּal-naf/SHE/nuover our soulהַמַּיִםham/MA/yimthe watersהַזֵּידוֹנִים׃haz/ze/do/NIMraging

   Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

   בָּרוּךְba/RUKHblessed beיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDשֶׁלֹּאshel/LOwho has notנְתָנָנוּne/ta/NA/nugiven usטֶרֶףTE/refas a preyלְשִׁנֵּיהֶם׃le/shin/ne/HEMto their teeth

   Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

   נַפְשֵׁנוּnaf/SHE/nuour soulכְּצִפּוֹרke/tsip/PORlike a birdנִמְלְטָהnim/le/TAhas escapedמִפַּחmip/PACHout of the snare ofיוֹקְשִׁיםyok/SHIMthe fowlersהַפַּחhap/PACHthe snareנִשְׁבָּרnish/BARis brokenוַאֲנַחְנוּva/a/NACH/nuand weנִמְלָטְנוּ׃nim/LAT/nuhave escaped

   Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

   עֶזְרֵנוּez/RE/nuour help isבְּשֵׁםbe/SHEMin the name ofיְהֹוָהAdonaithe LORDעֹשֵׂהo/SEwho madeשָׁמַיִםsha/MA/yimthe heavensוָאָרֶץ׃va/A/retsand earth

   Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
